00:00The leaders of Thailand and Cambodia are set to meet in the Philippines for rare talks
00:05following last year's deadly clashes along their disputed border.
00:08The Philippines, which is hosting the ASEAN meetings in Cebu,
00:12says President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will oversee the discussions before Friday's Leaders' Summit.
00:18Thai Prime Minister Anutin Chan Virakul said both countries wanted to maintain a positive atmosphere
00:24during the ASEAN gathering and agreed to hold talks.
00:27Anutin did not reveal the topics for discussion,
00:30although he said Thailand would continue to firmly defend its national interests.
00:35The meeting takes place as troops remain deployed along both sides of the disputed 800-kilometre border
00:42following fighting in July and December.
00:45Those clashes escalated into airstrikes and artillery exchanges
00:49before both sides agreed to halt the fighting under a ceasefire arrangement.
00:53Although the violence has stopped, Cambodia has repeatedly accused Thailand
00:57of violating the ceasefire and occupying disputed border territory.
01:02Bangkok has rejected those allegations and insisted that its military actions
01:06remain within Thailand's recognised border areas.
