00:01We are not seeing many sized lobsters at all.
00:05Previously...
00:05This is f***ing shit.
00:07The winter lobster hunting season is underway.
00:10It is shit, Bryce, but what the f*** do you want to do?
00:13Risking it all in pursuit of the world's most prized seafood delicacy
00:17is a fleet of young gun lobstermen.
00:20Bryce tries to work out the top of me again today.
00:23I'm gonna get f***ing really wild.
00:25And a canny old sea dog, a lobster hunting legend.
00:30I'm absolutely torn to bits thinking that I could go to Pedro and catch nothing.
00:34That's a huge gamble.
00:36There's a f***ing rock here somewhere, Johnny.
00:40Ah, f*** me.
00:42Did it do any damage?
00:43It might be bad.
00:58Not very flush this morning.
01:02Early morning, day four at sea.
01:04Ah, you f***.
01:06And Team Pira is under pressure.
01:09Two lousy little old females.
01:12Heave hermit crabs.
01:14Hermit crabs won't buy me beer.
01:18Yeah, we're just not...
01:19Not seeing a lot of fish at the moment.
01:22Ah!
01:25The reason I do these long hours is because I've got a lot of financial pressure.
01:30Ah, a pot full of ladies.
01:33I've got about a $700,000 investment in my boat.
01:37Nice nuggety fish.
01:39I've basically got to come up with about $10,000 a month just to pay the insurance and the loan
01:44repayments.
01:44Miles!
01:47Miles is under huge financial strain.
01:49He has to make every shot count.
01:53I'll just wait until you finish sorting.
01:54We'll go next one.
01:56I've only got Tim.
01:58He's running the deck by himself.
02:00Things are just taking too long.
02:02Hey, that pot f***ing nearly fell out of the side, I reckon.
02:04Yeah, I know.
02:09Ah, f*** me!
02:13F***!
02:15F***!
02:15It's taking, it's f***ing.
02:16It's too long.
02:18If we don't get these pots up in, you know, in a reasonable amount of time,
02:23well, we're going to end up missing out on having a day shot.
02:27That's the rub of running with just one decky.
02:30You save on wages, but everything takes longer.
02:35F***!
02:36He's got to ease up two seconds.
02:38F***!
02:39I'm starting to regret just taking one crew, to be quite honest.
02:48There's a f***ing rock here somewhere, Johnny.
02:51Port Davie.
02:54And Jack also has a few regrets of his own.
02:57Ah, f*** me.
02:59Just f***ing hit a rock on this side.
03:01He's just moated into a rock.
03:05We hit pretty hard.
03:06F*** me.
03:07F***.
03:09We're in trough.
03:10The rocks are just like daggers.
03:11The sound of steel hitting quartzite is every skipper's worst nightmare.
03:18We're not on top of anything, but we're definitely need a rock on the side.
03:22We run the risk of punching a hole into the boat.
03:26We could go down in minutes.
03:27They're 20 hours from port and help from a rescue chopper is an hour's flight away.
03:35I need to go check the end room.
03:37It could be in for a well to hurt.
03:39Especially if the water comes straight in on the genset.
03:43The end room's our heart and soul of the boat.
03:45Without that, we're dead in the water.
03:54How many beasts is in this one?
03:56It's a nice red one.
03:57That's what you call a beautiful Fry's southern rock lobster.
04:01Beautiful.
04:03Nice dark red colour to him.
04:05Bryce's decision to move into the shallows is paying off.
04:09Lobsters over two kilos are currently fetching the highest price on the market at $85 a kilo.
04:17We're on our third bid and we haven't even got 30 pots up, Jock.
04:21There's some good numbers this morning for a shot on the reds.
04:25Very good. Very happy.
04:28Locky might be happy, but his boss is not.
04:35Bryce is still hurting from yesterday's soft numbers versus the rest of the fleet.
04:42He's fallen into third place with 362 lobsters.
04:47Leading the tally board is Squizzy with 418 lobsters.
04:53Miles has bagged 397.
04:56And the Buran boys are coming last with 257 inshore reds.
05:03Look, it is frustrating when Squizzy gets a lot more than me.
05:06However, he's also got a lot more experience than me.
05:09So there's Miles.
05:10Are you starting to smile, Brycey?
05:13Nah, not yet.
05:17That's better.
05:19Are you happy, Bryce, today, or...?
05:22I'm happy if they keep coming like this.
05:25Come on, mate.
05:25A little smile on that face, eh?
05:27Nah, it's not enough.
05:27A little smile.
05:29It's not enough.
05:30This is what we needed.
05:32I hope this brings Bryce's spirits up a little bit.
05:34He's already brightening up a bit, eh?
05:37Alright, alright, alright.
05:40You can hear it in his voice, it's changed.
05:42Yeah, it's nice.
05:45Like, this is exceptional red fishing for where we are right now.
05:50We've got five, thirty pots of five bins, mate!
05:53Woo!
05:54Let's go!
05:56Woo!
05:58Yeah, buddy!
05:59It's a lobster dance.
06:01Of sorts.
06:02I reckon that if the other two knew what numbers you could get inshore in the reds, they'd both be
06:07a hit.
06:08120 off a 30, I'm very happy with that.
06:11I was 60 to 80 expecting, but we glitched that.
06:16The shot could be huge.
06:18A potential game-changer for Bryce.
06:21My only thing is now, is the second half going to be as good.
06:24That's what we call fishing, baby!
06:29We hit 20 yards, I was just double checking.
06:33Jack is assessing the damage to his boat.
06:36It doesn't seem to be any water coming in at this stage.
06:38I've checked down in the bilges, I've checked the side of the boat, checked the welds.
06:43I think we're all good.
06:44I'm glad we got away from that unscathed.
06:49Still got proper steering.
06:51That boat's not shaking, so I didn't touch the prop.
06:54Yeah, pretty close call, really.
06:56Could have been another couple of foot more to that side.
06:58Might have been a different story.
07:01We weren't going very fast.
07:02I was actually out of gear, thank Christ.
07:04So we didn't hit it with much steam on.
07:07Hit pretty hard, didn't it?
07:09Risk versus reward, mate.
07:11That's right.
07:12And it won't be a good pond.
07:14It won't be a bull.
07:16It will be.
07:18I have faith.
07:23It's a nice day to be a deckhand.
07:27Yeah!
07:29South of the Friars, the crew of the Bold Contender is under attack from octopus.
07:37Yeah, they've been a bit slow today.
07:39Every pond was pulled.
07:41Had occhi fish in it.
07:42They're all dead.
07:45When the full moon's up, octopus just go crazy.
07:48Octopus are my number one enemy.
07:49I hate them.
07:51Squizzy has a choice to make.
07:53Stick and stay and fight off the octopus.
07:56Or motor to Pedro Branca for a fresh restart.
08:00If we go to Pedro and there's nothing there, what's at stake is money?
08:06I don't know what I'm doing yet.
08:08Just see how the next few go.
08:10If they improve down to the south, we'll keep rolling.
08:14It's too early to tell.
08:15We'll pull another half a dozen.
08:17We'll have a talk about it.
08:18Yes.
08:27I'll try to f***ing avoid hitting any more rocks today, bud.
08:31Jack and Johnny were lucky.
08:33Yeah, that's right.
08:34We've got to get close to the rocks to get the lobsters out.
08:37Jack's pride has taken an unexpected hit.
08:41Thankfully, his boat, the Burra, remains seaworthy.
08:45So, just after we hit the rock last night, we actually shot a pot straight on top of it,
08:49or straight next to it, you know.
08:50So, we've got to be pretty careful when we get this one back.
08:54As you can see, it's the top of the rock here poking out of the water.
08:58The bull kelp's sort of sitting on top of it.
09:03So, that's just a bit of a cushion if you do hit it, but it's still not ideal.
09:09All the rope's just tangled up in all this kelp here,
09:12and it's just really difficult to actually get a bit of the rope because none of it's exposed.
09:19Right on.
09:20Dead eye dick.
09:25Oh, Johnny, put that on the hauler, mate.
09:27I think it's off again.
09:29Ah.
09:32Throwing a grapple is not easy.
09:34It weighs close to a kilo.
09:38Every deckhand has their own technique to get the job done.
09:42I've done the same thing beforehand and snapped off grapples and lost grapples
09:46and lost the pots at the end of the day too.
09:49F***.
09:50I've got the rope, I've got the rope.
09:53Let's hold that firm so it doesn't pull off the rope.
09:56I just want to get away from the rock a bit.
09:59Ah, put it on the hauler.
10:04If I stand there, Johnny, that snaps and that grapple f*** comes off and hits you in the face.
10:09Yeah, this rock has given me all sorts of nightmares.
10:13At this stage I just want to get this pot back, get away from this rock and leave it alone.
10:18There she goes.
10:21Get it on the hauler, dude.
10:23Don't wait for it to sink.
10:31We've got the pot back, got it all safe.
10:33Got a couple of fish in it, didn't hit the rock again.
10:37Nah.
10:37Good job.
10:43Ten.
10:45Goodie.
10:46And thankfully it's got a couple of nice fish in it for us too.
10:49Nice red ones.
10:50We'll take a ten every day of the week.
10:52Maybe this rock isn't so cursed after all.
11:07So far so slow.
11:09We are not seeing many fish at the moment.
11:12Bryce's bumper start to his shot has hit a snag.
11:15It all looked so promising.
11:19Until it wasn't.
11:21I'd like to see 50 odd out of this.
11:24Try and get us around the 170 mark.
11:27Are we getting one or two at least?
11:28Yeah.
11:34Some jockeys for you.
11:35Can Jock get a jockey?
11:37Can he get his first jockey or jockeys?
11:40A jockey is a lobster that's on the outside of the pot.
11:42So that lobster's travelled the whole way from the bottom,
11:45about 100 metres down,
11:46and come all the way to the boat, hanging on.
11:49He had two chances at it and he got one.
11:51He got one.
11:51He had 50% chance.
11:52That's alright?
11:53They were both undersized anyway.
11:55That's alright.
11:56It's training mate.
11:59Sometimes as they break the surface they'll jump off.
12:02So you've got to be quick to grab them on and get them in.
12:07If you can catch that lobster and it's sized,
12:09it's meant to bring you luck.
12:13And good luck is just what they need.
12:16We've finished pulling all the gear now.
12:18Locky's counting the fish down.
12:19Jock's just baiting the last pot.
12:21What do we get?
12:23Got 40 out of that lot.
12:2540?
12:2640.
12:27Ah, nice.
12:2840.
12:30160 for the night shot.
12:32That's good.
12:32That's a good start.
12:33You know, the reds are worth $15 more a kilo than the brindles.
12:36So ideally that 160 is worth like 250 brindles, you know.
12:40So can't complain with that really.
12:42Everyone's going to get a payday.
12:43I'm just hoping that the day shot can follow suit.
12:46Here's Miles.
12:48Miles is in sight.
12:51F***ing sailing ship.
12:57That make 48, does it?
12:58Yep.
12:59Yeah.
12:59The Pira crew is down on sleep and lobster numbers.
13:04Bro, I'll be happy if we get anywhere over 100.
13:08Don't know.
13:09Be close.
13:10And then there's the issue of operating with just one decky.
13:15Burn all the diesel and the bait and, you know, all the food and everything else that
13:18goes with it.
13:19For me to operate this boat, at least one or a couple hundred fish a day.
13:24And that means Miles must be able to drop at least two shots a day.
13:31F*** off!
13:34Timmy's starting to show the early signs of exhaustion.
13:37And it's no surprise as the Pira is second on the tally board.
13:41Jack's the only other single decky skipper.
13:44And he's coming last.
13:47Apparently I've lost the spot with the brindles, but I still remember how to catch a red fish.
13:55So this is a fouled pot.
13:58Jammed in the bottom.
14:01It's taken us so long to get these pots up and now we've got a stuck pot.
14:04So you've got to just, you've got to drive up over it to try and pull it right out above
14:10it.
14:10We should already be shooting our day shot in.
14:13And now I've got to try and focus to get this pot unstuck.
14:17And we might even lose this pot.
14:20When you're putting tension on that pot and it won't come free, the line will generally shoot off the pot
14:26hauler.
14:27And when that rope shoots out of the hauler, it's just like a whip.
14:30If that hits you in the face, you know, I mean, that's going to really hurt.
14:34But generally when you get a stuck pot, it's usually a few crows in it.
14:40It means you've got right in a nice hole in the bottom.
14:51So, Matt, that's out now.
14:54This is a really good relief.
14:56Puts a bit of a lighter mood on things.
14:58Oh, **** you.
14:59We've really got to get going here because we're way behind the eight ball.
15:03A few fish about here.
15:05Good.
15:14How many are you asking me out, Tim?
15:16About 120.
15:18151.
15:19Yeah, that's way better than I thought.
15:21That's where we need to be.
15:23151 more lobsters in the tank brings their running total to 548.
15:30I'm actually a little bit shocked.
15:31I thought we did really bad.
15:33But those last 10 or 15 pots really got us out of the woods.
15:37Oh, squeezy, fine.
15:38They're catching **** all.
15:40No, we've gone all right.
15:41Yeah.
15:52Something has happened.
15:54There has been a couple of good pots this morning, so that's all right.
15:57But, yeah, definitely thinking we should move to Pedro.
16:02We got 108 this morning.
16:04Nice big ones.
16:06Sometimes you think, why would you leave 108?
16:10The bold contender is flatlining.
16:13It's crunch time.
16:15I'm going to go.
16:16We're going to take the gambling go.
16:18You know, it was a good day yesterday, 270-odd.
16:23But the itch is too bad, not the scratch.
16:27I just hope it pays off.
16:29The moon phase is good for Pedro.
16:32I always do pretty well there on a full moon.
16:34Pros, if they're going, bigger fish, nice run.
16:42If it ain't going, it's a disaster.
16:46If we lose money on fuel and food and time, we'll just take it out Jesse's boat.
16:51Hey, I didn't eat for the first three days, so...
16:54Oh, you'll save this money.
16:55LAUGHTER
16:58This is what Pedra Branca looks like,
17:01a casino in the sea where fortunes can be made and lost.
17:06It's a two-and-a-half-hour steam south-west of the Friars.
17:10Pedra's known for its big lobsters, and right now, big is best.
17:16At Pedra, you can catch red lobsters in the shallow waters around the rocks,
17:20and you can catch brindles in the deeper water.
17:24101 kilo brindles, priced at $55 a kilo, are worth $5,500.
17:31102 kilo big reds, priced at $85 a kilo, are worth $17,000.
17:39Size matters.
17:40Sometimes you can catch both at the same time.
17:42You can have a night shot on the reds and a day shot on the brindles,
17:45but sometimes the reds might be running
17:47and the brindles are not, or vice versa.
17:49So, Pedra's got its own mind.
17:52It's the boss.
17:54And I just hope it welcomes the bold contender this time.
17:58Come on, baby.
18:02Let's pray to the lobster gods
18:04there's something out there for us.
18:06Look at that! That's it!
18:09They say there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow.
18:12Let's go!
18:14Alright, that's a sign.
18:26Well, is there anything in that one?
18:28One for that one.
18:30These ones are really letting us down a bit.
18:32That was shit hot yesterday.
18:3498.
18:34Jack's pots are off the boil.
18:37A little bit slow this morning.
18:38The first few pots were amazing.
18:42But the last sort of 15 to 20 pots, we're only getting ones and twos.
18:49Yeah, so we like to try and get a hundred, you know, every morning.
18:54I need seven more fish, Johnny.
18:56We need seven more.
18:58Get a hundred.
18:59A hundred a night shot.
19:00Maybe half that for a day shot.
19:02Yeah, you're putting fish on the boat by the end of the trip.
19:04And hitting target means turning a profit.
19:08Come on, little snappy toms.
19:11Oh, there we go.
19:12Ah.
19:14Oh.
19:16Can't be a f***ing battle, Johnny.
19:18This stage, it's pretty touch and go.
19:21Oh.
19:23Couldn't be, couldn't be.
19:28Close.
19:30No.
19:31No.
19:34Nope.
19:36We're on 99, so I'm just f***ing praying this last spot's got one in it for us.
19:42One more for a hundred, Johnny.
19:47Ernie.
19:48A hundred.
19:49One up.
19:50A couple figures.
19:51That's what we want.
19:53Dear beauty, the last pot's come up.
19:55We've got one out of it.
19:56One hundred lobsters takes their running tally to 357.
20:02Yeah, definitely happy.
20:04I think it might be time to move on from there and have a look somewhere else.
20:10Find something a bit fresh.
20:22If the fish aren't very good here today, well, we could, um, we could end up having a pretty bad
20:27shot, you know?
20:28Mip.
20:30Miles is betting on brindles for the day, but out here, there's no such thing as a safe bet.
20:40What?
20:41Miles.
20:42We come down to a secret spot.
20:45We'll see how we go.
20:46What's that?
20:47Not Pedro.
20:48Where the big bucks go.
20:53So you're going to Pedro, eh, or?
20:55Yeah, we're coming down from it.
20:56Are you going to let me know if you find a few fish down there or what?
21:00Oh, I don't know.
21:01You know me.
21:04Yeah, I know.
21:05Well, if you're hanging around down there, I know something's going on.
21:08I'll do a bryce on you.
21:10I'll come and follow the line.
21:14Whatever Squizzy's going to tell me, I'm going to take a grain of salt.
21:18Look, if we get to Pedro and the fish are running all right, it's hard to tell the truth.
21:23Because you know other boats are going to come.
21:25The big gamble coming down here.
21:28I'm a bit jealous if, you know, if they're on down there, but...
21:32All right then, mate. Hopefully you go well down there.
21:34All right, mate. Take care. Be safe. See ya.
21:38I think Miles is jealous I went to Pedro because I got away from Bryce first.
21:42I mean, Bryce is giving me the shits.
21:44He's been shitting his pots all around me, and it's just sort of starting to wear a bit tin, to
21:48be honest.
21:49Bang! We're in and we're on!
21:57Pots aren't looking very good at all for this first half, which...
22:01I had a feeling it was going to happen, but...
22:05What do you do? What do you do?
22:07It's all a big gamble, this, and...
22:10Look, like Loki always says, it's not over till the last pot's pulled.
22:14Because that's how fishing works.
22:16Whoa!
22:21Ratatouille's!
22:21The pots are coming up with fish, it's what we want to see, but...
22:24It's just rats. Lots and lots of undersized fish.
22:27I'd just like a great day to top off the great morning.
22:33So I can have a great sleep, and wake up tomorrow and start again and probably get shat on.
22:38Because that's how fishing works.
22:40Bryce is hoping to lift his day shot numbers.
22:43Bryce!
22:45You okay?
22:46Well, I'm not good. You're not working hard enough, to be honest.
22:48I had to wait for Jock to move.
22:50There's no reason to work hard.
22:52You're not catching any frickin' lobsters.
22:54Oh!
22:55Oh!
22:56Oh!
22:58If my deck boss could throw them in when I'm told, you know, then...
23:03We all know that I'm not pushing them in. Jock is.
23:06Did you teach him?
23:07Yes.
23:07Is it your responsibility?
23:08No. He's yours. You're the master of the vessel.
23:11I'm giving you the responsibility that he's your responsibility.
23:14Yeah, but still technically it's your responsibility, you're the master of the vessel.
23:17Therefore, you are liable for any and everything that happens to him.
23:20Did you use yourself as shit now?
23:22Hey, Jock! Bryce is smiling.
23:24I made him smile.
23:27The young gun has a lot to prove to himself and to others.
23:33Smiling?
23:34I can't believe all that at the moment.
23:35There's too many things that are weighing me down.
23:38We're not catching enough.
23:40They'll need more to beat Squizzy.
23:42Squizzy, you don't smile.
23:43I don't want to smile.
23:44I wouldn't want to smile with a moustache like that.
23:46What?
23:46It's called a goatee.
23:49He's got a goatee at the moment.
23:51He's always had one.
23:52I don't look at him that much.
23:53You do look at him.
23:54You look at a photo of him every night before you go to sleep.
23:56Yeah, all you do is think about him.
23:58Oh, Squizzy!
23:59I hope I caught more than you.
24:00I'll see you in the morning.
24:02Oh, Squizzy!
24:03I'm not sure what sort of beard Squizzy has.
24:05I mean, it's definitely better than mine, but it definitely looks like a bird's shad in it.
24:14Yep.
24:15Yep.
24:15Yep.
24:18Season skipper Squizzy has perfectly timed his arrival at Pedra to squeeze in a day shot.
24:28I love fishing out at Pedra when it's good.
24:31But when it's bad, it's an arse over place.
24:34Yep.
24:35I've got a new crew.
24:37It's their first time out there.
24:41The conditions are different out there.
24:43It's a long way out.
24:45It's a long way to help.
24:52Oh, what's going on?
24:53Hang on!
24:56Look out! Look out!
24:59Let it go. Just let it go. Get out of the way.
25:02The bold contender is in trouble.
25:04Wait, I'll take the pressure off it.
25:07Stay there, Jesse.
25:08Two pots have accidentally got tied together.
25:11That pot can drag you over the side, and you ain't gonna swim with a 40-kilo pot wrapped around
25:16you.
25:24You know what's done that?
25:25I know.
25:27Loop over a pole.
25:30You know when you get a loop around a pole?
25:34Because they're two new crew, they don't understand exactly if there's a loop around a pole or anything like that.
25:42So, the two pots we just shot were still connected through the boat through another hooked up line,
25:48which pulled the next pot out of Rhino's grip and into the horns.
25:58And that's why I yelled out to Jesse, get out of the way, because that pot, that pot's sitting there,
26:03and all that wants to do is take off the boat.
26:08When you see shit like that, just stand out of the way. Let it go.
26:12Both of you, just f***ing let it go.
26:14It's the same when a pot slips off them horns when we're pulling it.
26:19Don't try and f***ing on to it, just let it go.
26:23You can replace a pot, but you can't replace your crew.
26:27Safety first.
26:29And that's why we have dives on the boat, and up on the rail up there.
26:33I'd rather lose a pot or two than hurt someone.
26:44Doc, do you think Bryce needs to hurry up?
26:47I think we just need to catch some craze.
26:49That's what I think.
26:50But yeah, look, I've given up on that now.
26:53Bryce is desperate for some bumper pots.
26:57Oh my goodness, that's a loaded pot.
27:01Loaded pot.
27:02Just spill it out the neck, mate.
27:05That's a good size craze, eh?
27:06Look at this, spilling out the bloody neck.
27:10Nice lobster, don't even need to measure in.
27:13Beautiful.
27:15If you don't get ten out of that, I will be very, very surprised.
27:18That's two, three...
27:19We could be onto something.
27:21What's that saying, Locky?
27:22One pot can make you a whole week?
27:24One pot can make you a whole shot.
27:26How many got out of that one, Joggy?
27:27Six.
27:27Seven.
27:29Let's see if he gets ten.
27:31Nine.
27:34Eleven.
27:35Eleven?
27:38Fifteen, Brycey!
27:39It's lobster dance number two.
27:44The largest number of lobsters in a single pot for the season.
27:50Fifteen's good.
27:51Fifteen's a good start.
27:52I know there's more down there, so I want to see the twenties.
27:55Fifteen was good.
27:56It's got us back up to like a shitty level.
27:59We went from a really shit level to a shitty level.
28:04So I've been on the boat with Dad when we've caught a stupid amount
28:08in a very, very short period of time and fifteen was a low number for that shot.
28:12Dad always loved the fries and going out offshore
28:15and a lot of people say that's where his wealth was made.
28:18It's a really good area to learn and you can catch some really nice lobsters here.
28:28All right, Jonathan.
28:30You ready?
28:31Jonathan, let's go.
28:34Port Davey and Jack and Johnny are hoping that today's day shot for Brindles
28:38will see their luck change.
28:41Come on, motherf***ers.
28:44I just started falling on the day shot, so this one's coming out at 36, 37,000.
28:50Hopefully more than zero.
28:52Hopefully I have something in it, but we'll see today.
28:56We don't want another f***ing repeat of yesterday, really.
29:00F***ing bullshit.
29:02Yesterday's day shot of 22, that wouldn't have even covered the cost for the diesel.
29:06So we've got bills to pay.
29:09We've got families to feed, so we really need to put some fish on this boat
29:12and put some numbers on.
29:17They're still a-sleaky boys, mate.
29:22Oh, the Brindles here are f***ing dead.
29:28They seem to be doing nothing.
29:31They might have to stick to the red ones, I think, Johnny.
29:34These baits say it couldn't be any fuller.
29:36Yeah.
29:36They've got a f***ing three-course meal here, but they're not going, are they?
29:42I can see the pods coming off the bottom on the sounder.
29:44They're coming off beautiful bottom.
29:45They've landed exactly how I wanted them to,
29:48but it's just a waste of f***ing time at the moment.
29:54Hey, buddy, how you going?
29:55Hey, Jack.
29:56What are you doing?
29:57Pulling a day shot again, mate.
30:00Oh, bloody day shooting.
30:02Yeah.
30:02I'll tell you what, they're f***ing sad around here every day time.
30:06Sad.
30:07F***ing very sad.
30:09They're pretty sad here too, to be honest.
30:11Yeah, so we've just pulled two tens in a row, a nine,
30:14and then Lockie's got a half smile on his face.
30:17I think he's pulling another seven, eight out of this pot.
30:19I thought you said they were sad.
30:20Yeah, they're sad when I'm not catching them.
30:22That's about it.
30:23Typical Bryce though.
30:24His cockiness is coming out.
30:26He's bragging.
30:27He's trying to be humble, but he's not.
30:29You know, he's just typical Bryce.
30:32All right. F***ing up.
30:33All right, see you later.
30:36I feel sorry for him, but just like his boat,
30:39it's tough as nails and so is he,
30:41and I'm sure he'll get through it.
30:44That's how f*** the lobsters can be, mate.
30:46F***ing Bryce is whacking the data out of the brindle's priors,
30:49and they are just non-existent here, just dead.
30:59Come on.
31:01Come on.
31:04Come on.
31:07Yeah, a little bit nervous.
31:10This is judgment day out here.
31:13Pedra Branca, where fortunes can be made and lost.
31:19After 35 years, I still get nervous, but that's part of the thrill.
31:24You never know what you're going to get.
31:27When I make a big decision like we did this morning to leave fish and come somewhere else,
31:36yeah, it puts you on edge a little bit.
31:40We've just got to get them big fish to crawl into our pots.
31:44Yeah, just a bigger run of fish out here when they're going.
31:50You don't get all the rats.
31:52And bigger lobsters mean a bigger paycheck.
31:56If you get an 80 out here, it's like 120, 130 in there.
32:05So, as long as we see a sign of the word.
32:11Yeah, I'll be happy with baby today.
32:17That's not the sign they were hoping for.
32:20And the first pot's up.
32:23It's not looking flash.
32:26Long way to go though.
32:30We got one out the first one.
32:36To hit his target of 80 large lobsters,
32:40Squizzy needs at least two per pot.
32:43Come on baby, come on.
32:51Come on Pedro, come on.
32:57Rub the wood.
32:58Rub that wood.
33:01Can you imagine going to the casino and you lose a thousand dollars?
33:04When you wake up the next day, you don't feel real good.
33:08That's how I feel right now.
33:11Times ten.
33:15**** it.
33:23Yeah, it's a lot of effort to go into a **** hole at the end of the day.
33:28The pressure is on Jack to turn a profit after yesterday's dismal performance.
33:34So we've pulled 22 pots so far for this shot and we've only got four **** fish.
33:40Very disheartening mate.
33:43I am going to cry myself to sleep tonight for sure.
33:47Starting to double guess what I'm doing.
33:50I am catching **** cold today.
33:54Gonna be so embarrassing on TV.
34:00Jack is in the red.
34:02They're not hungry.
34:03They're not moving.
34:04I don't know what it is.
34:05Now we've got perfect weather, but they're just not each.
34:08I've got one pot to go.
34:11Out of our 30th per day shot, we've got seven fish.
34:21Come on.
34:23Squizzy's praying to the lobster gods.
34:32Most of the fish we have on board at the moment are under a kilo.
34:37So low end of the price bracket.
34:40We need to try and find a few over a kilo.
34:44And there's only one place I really know is here.
34:54Oh, come on.
34:56Yeah!
34:58That's what we're **** talking about, squigs.
35:01Yeah, baby!
35:03That's what we're talking about.
35:05Hello, ladies!
35:09**** you, that's a big dog.
35:11A Pedro dog is a nice big lobster.
35:14That's what we're here for.
35:15Come on.
35:16Pedro dogs.
35:20That's the money fish, baby.
35:22Leave it hooked up.
35:23We'll set these two straight back.
35:27Female!
35:29So the little size of that female, he's going to measure it as a male.
35:32He hasn't realised yet.
35:35Female!
35:38That's why I checked the fish, because Rhino's excited.
35:42We've had a good pot and he's just put a sized female in the day tank.
35:47But I'll pick that up when I go to measure.
35:50If he was measuring straight into the tank then, the holding tank, that could be the end of my career
35:55fishing.
35:56You've got massive fines.
35:57And your reputation in this industry is shot to ****.
36:01Caught me unawares, that one.
36:03The only person that measures into the holding tank of the bowl contender is me.
36:11Ten.
36:12Seen.
36:14Eight.
36:16Oh, nine!
36:19Ten.
36:21Ten!
36:22Ten.
36:26Bryce's run of bumper pods has lifted everyone's spirits 160 on the knocker gives us 320 for the
36:37day and it's daylight lunar's out shit's mint it's not even raining on us anymore dinner's
36:46already cooking oh yeah two thousand fish doesn't seem too far away if we can keep up these numbers
36:55I'm happy now I'm sure the old man will be happy if I tell him what we got for the
36:59day his first
37:00words are going to be how can you get better and that's that's what I'll plan on doing tomorrow if
37:05I don't do that then he doesn't need to know about it yeah beautiful size pot I've got eight out
37:18of
37:18him already miles has some decisions to make his decision to run with just one decky is weighing
37:27heavily on his mind first half of gear was absolutely shit probably would have been lucky to have
37:3430 fish then at the last four pots we had like 30 fish so that's how easy it can change
37:5111 11 so it seems to be we're starting to see some pretty good pots yeah we had a 12
37:59there before which
38:00is um which is good yeah that's big thing I guess don't drop your head when you're having a shit
38:06morning because it can turn around just like that one more after this that last one's that big one
38:12dude yeah I want to knock off so I can go to the pub man considering this poor start we
38:28uh finished off
38:30all right I don't know if we're gonna beat squeezy or Bryce but you know I'm not really too worried
38:36about
38:36what they're doing as long as we can get a few fish and make a bit of money so what's
38:41that that is 138 138
38:45well that's all I thought was only gonna get 38 to start with that was pretty pretty sad would've been
38:52all right if they was all locked in my 20 pots yeah yeah no we're happy we're happy we just
38:58just try for
38:59more to mine as long as we go in with more fish than Bryce and Jack and squeezy I won't
39:07be happy
39:13oh hello what do we got going on yeah
39:17yo beauty
39:20squeezy's hit the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow
39:25big lobsters tractors donkeys Pedro dogs whatever name them anything you want
39:32yeah I'd like a few more
39:35always want more if it weighs it pays
39:42that's all tanking there is looking pretty reasonable not massive numbers but big fish
39:49we want big fish and we want big fish we want more of these babies
39:57yeah baby
40:05nine
40:06yo beauty
40:10we roll the dice on this one mate we come to Pedro and
40:13uh it's paid for it I think we're gonna have 142
40:20I need to know the suspense is just killing me
40:24121
40:26I'm pretty stoked with that
40:29wasn't a bad day shot
40:30oh oh
40:32look at that
40:33winna winna
40:34if you don't laugh you cry I think
40:36it's been a good day for everyone
40:39except Jack
40:40with a day shot of just eight lobsters he's still languishing in fourth place with 365 lobsters
40:49I'm gonna go cry
40:54and the lobster legend
40:55the old sea dog
40:57the one they all want to beat
40:59is in third place
41:03Bryce is coming second
41:04on 682
41:06and the big winner is miles who's back on top with 686 lobsters
41:14today is a day for the young guns
41:16it's an emotional roller coaster
41:18um
41:19and it always is
41:20if tomorrow morning goes well
41:22like I hope it is
41:22then there's no reason
41:24that tomorrow afternoon
41:26there could be 300, 400 just in a shot
41:28um
41:29the game worked for
41:31that's paid off today
41:32time will kill
41:33out here
41:34it is a strange place
41:35we're gonna have to do something different in the next few days though
41:37hopefully we're gonna have something to pull us out of the shit
41:40because
41:41we are deeply
41:42we are deeply in at this stage
41:43and
