Although the Liberal Democrats took control of the council in 2024 from the Conservatives, will they hold their seats?

Local Democracy Reporter Meghan Shaw reports.

00:00It's the only region in Kent holding local elections and the last chance to head to the
00:06polls before local government reorganisation. But will Tunbridge Wells succumb to a reform
00:13wave which has already hit most of the county?
00:17In the last local election, the Liberal Democrats took control of Tunbridge Wells' current councils
00:23from the Conservatives. So I went down to the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells to see if the
00:28Liberal Democrats still seem to hold that swing.
00:32I'm an undecided voter but I do support the local independents. They have the independent view.
00:42We are going for Green Party.
00:44Green Party. Do you normally vote them?
00:47No, it's my first time but I don't know why we love them but we love them.
00:51Who's got your vote?
00:53The Lib Dems.
00:53There are always things that could be improved but yeah, they are the best council for me.
00:59I'm either going to vote for Lib Dem as like a tactical vote to sort of keep the other parties
01:05out or I might vote Green which is like more morally where like I am lying with.
01:10For me, I've always sort of, in the last two years or so, the local elections in particular
01:17always skewed more towards Lib Dem in this particular area.
01:20I will, I think I'll vote Lib Dem. I usually do. I definitely won't be voting reform.
01:28I'm so fed up with people in power that shouldn't be in power because they're not worth anything
01:34in my book and there's too many rules and regulations and I think the small businesses,
01:40it's just too much.
01:41Local elections have a historically low turnout but will pioneering earlier weekend voting
01:49as well as Kent local politics recently being under the spotlight off the back of Cliftonville
01:55spark more residents to get involved in grassroots politics.
