00:01With its effective closure sending shockwaves through the global economy,
00:05the Strait of Hormuz has been much discussed throughout the Iran war.
00:12Some experts say the situation around the vital oil choke point remains uncertain,
00:17with Iran continuing to signal its intent to target ships that do not use its preferred transit route.
00:25We've seen renewed attacks against onshore facilities.
00:28So from Iran's point of view, the attention is still very much clear.
00:32They do intend to strike against any ships that transit the Strait of Hormuz
00:37that aren't passing through the Iran-approved route,
00:42which we've seen develop over the last number of weeks now.
00:47So for shipping companies, it's a slightly uncertain situation.
00:52On Monday, the US launched a bid to unblock the Strait,
00:55so commercial ships could pass through the shipping lane freely.
00:58However, some experts believe this endeavour won't have the desired outcome.
01:03This initiative alone isn't something that looks like it's going to open the Strait of Hormuz
01:07that can really only be done through either an agreement between the United States or Iran,
01:13or whether a resumption of conflict where the US significantly diminishes
01:19Iran's ability to carry out drones and missiles and, you know,
01:23diminishes Iran's ability to use boats to harass shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
01:28Before the war broke out, around a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas
01:32would pass through the Strait.
01:33Tehran has effectively blockaded the waterway, sending oil prices skyrocketing.
