00:01:48That's good.
00:01:48Who are you?
00:01:49I am Micaiah Mustafil.
00:01:51I am 24 years old, and I am from Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
00:01:54Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
00:01:55All right.
00:01:55Oh, my God.
00:01:56Your voice is already filling up the room.
00:01:59They can hear you all the way from Pine Bluff.
00:02:02I know.
00:02:02That's what I want.
00:02:03And what do you do in Pine Bluff?
00:02:04So I am an assistant branch manager for a bank there in my hometown.
00:02:08I got you.
00:02:08And I also do singing on the side.
00:02:10I just love you.
00:02:13Morning, morning, morning, morning.
00:02:14Morning, morning, morning, morning, morning.
00:02:18Thanks for calling us in this bank.
00:02:19Micaiah speaking.
00:02:20Do you have the blue bag that if somebody robs the bank, you can put the blue paint in the
00:02:24bag, and it blows up on them?
00:02:26No, I wish I did.
00:02:28All I have is, like, bait money.
00:02:30They have the tracker, and I give that to them that way I can track them.
00:02:33The bait money?
00:02:34Yes, the bait money.
00:02:37I have a lot of fun at work.
00:02:39Fun is what makes the day go by.
00:02:41If we can't have fun, then I don't want to work with you.
00:02:44Hey, I wonder if my wife has bait money on me.
00:02:47Uh-oh.
00:02:48Anyway.
00:02:49Now he's worried.
00:02:50Where do you do all your singing?
00:02:51So I sing around my town, and I also grew up singing in church, so I sing in church every
00:02:55Sunday with my family.
00:02:57So this whole family is a singing family, yeah?
00:03:00We have this saying.
00:03:01There's a difference in singing and singing, and we believe she can sing.
00:03:05She can sing?
00:03:06We can sing.
00:03:07Oh, you can't sing?
00:03:08No, we can't sing.
00:03:09What about you?
00:03:10I sing, and I play the drums.
00:03:12Oh, so you got it all going on there.
00:03:14Okay.
00:03:14Something like that.
00:03:15He can sing.
00:03:16He can sing?
00:03:17He can sing.
00:03:17I've never met a man quite like you, doing all you can, making my dreams come true.
00:03:35You got the charm, you simply disarm me every time.
00:03:43As long as you drive, I'm along for the ride your way.
00:04:15Oh, he's gone.
00:04:18Oh, you, you alone, yeah, yeah.
00:04:24Out for me.
00:04:28I know you're the best.
00:04:31You're past every test.
00:04:33It's almost too good to be true.
00:04:37You're the perfect man for me.

00:08:20That church must be rocking, boy
00:08:25Every day of your life

00:09:22You can hallowed the bad boys any day of the week
00:09:25I don't think we've seen a star, star, star like you yet
00:09:34I wonder do we have any valedictorians in this class
00:09:36Where did you rank in your class, Carrie?
00:09:39I was salutatorian
00:09:41But the only reason I wasn't valedictorian is because two of the classes I needed were at the same time
00:09:48So you could have been it
00:09:50Yeah, and I remember talking to the counselor like, this isn't fair
00:09:53What were you?
00:09:55I was not in the running
00:09:58You didn't qualify
00:09:59I was known back then as Lionel Who?
00:10:03Then you know I was in the class
00:10:06Oh, God
00:10:07How are you feeling?
00:10:09Good, I'm excited, I'm nervous, happy to be here
00:10:11Finally here
00:10:12Oh, it says idol
00:10:14Today's the day
00:10:16Feels incredible to have my family here
00:10:18Because they definitely shaped me into the young woman I am today
00:10:22And I don't know who I'd be without them
00:10:24Love you so much
00:10:25I've just been trying to think all the positive thoughts, manifest all the things
00:10:30But the fact it's all today, I think it's kind of stressed me out a little
00:10:33Oh my gosh, I don't know why I'm so nervous
00:10:35I'm sorry
00:10:37Come on in
00:10:38Hello

00:10:50What are you going to sing for us?
00:10:51I'm singing Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo
00:10:53Very good, let's hear it
00:11:03Hate to give the satisfaction asking how you're doing now
00:11:07How's the castle built off people you pretend to care about
00:11:10Just what you wanted
00:11:12Look at you, cool guy, you got it
00:11:16I see the parties and the diamonds
00:11:19Sometimes when I close my eyes
00:11:20Six months of torture you sold
00:11:22Some forbidden paradise
00:11:24I loved you truly
00:11:26Gotta laugh at this stupidity
00:11:28I made some real big mistakes
00:11:32You made the worst one look fine
00:11:35I should have known
00:11:37It was strange
00:11:39You only come out at night
00:11:42I used to think I was smart
00:11:45You made me look so naive
00:11:48The way you sold me for parts
00:11:52As you sunk your teeth into me
00:11:55You made me a bloodsucker
00:11:58Dream crusher
00:12:00Bleeding me dry like a damn vampire
00:12:06You said it was true love
00:12:08But wouldn't I be hard?
00:12:10You can't love anyone
00:12:11Cause I wouldn't mean you had a heart
00:12:13I tried to help you out
00:12:15Now I know that I can't
00:12:16Cause I think she kind of thinks
00:12:18I'll never understand
00:12:24I made some real big mistakes
00:12:28You made the worst one look fine
00:12:31I should have known
00:12:33It was strange
00:12:34You only come out at night
00:12:37I used to think I was smart
00:12:40You made me look so naive
00:12:43The way you sold me for parts
00:12:47You stuck your teeth into me
00:12:50Oh
00:12:50Oh
00:12:52Wow
00:12:54Plunged sucker
00:12:56Dream crusher
00:12:58Bleeding me dry like a damn vampire
00:13:18I am so happy for us
00:13:22I am so happy for you
00:13:24Wow
00:13:25That was right on the money
00:13:29Thank you so much
00:13:31If there were a thousand things on a list to check
00:13:34I think you checked them all
00:13:35I mean
00:13:36I don't think we've seen a star, star, star like you yet
00:13:40Really, really incredible
00:13:43Your breath control is quite amazing
00:13:47There was one point and you just kept going
00:13:49And I'm like when is she gonna breathe?
00:13:52Thank you
00:13:52I'm just curious to know
00:13:54What drove you to be here?
00:13:56Performing is my favorite thing ever
00:13:58And I'm also here really for my community, the Palisades
00:14:02We need a win after such a hard year for everyone
00:14:06And I'm just, yeah, here singing for my family and my community
00:14:11In January of 2025, there was a wildfire that destroyed a lot of our community
00:14:19So much of our community burnt
00:14:21Like my preschool, the first theater I ever performed in
00:14:26The home that I lived in until I was five
00:14:28My childhood best friend's homes
00:14:38It was a really
00:14:40It's been a really hard time
00:14:41Seeing the town that I grew up in completely gone
00:14:47After the fires, it was really hard to just find joy in the little things
00:14:51But it's taught me a lot
00:14:52It's taught me when everyone comes together
00:14:55It can be so strong
00:14:56Well, sorry for all of that
00:14:58I know the pain that that community is going through
00:15:01And to have such a bright spot like you to come in and represent is fantastic
00:15:05Thank you
00:15:07I want to vote
00:15:09Please, Luke, Luke, calm down
00:15:10I want to vote
00:15:11Calm down, talk about it
00:15:12What do you want to do, Lionel?
00:15:14I want to vote
00:15:15Okay
00:15:16It's a yes, big old yes
00:15:18Big old yes
00:15:19Luke
00:15:20As big as a yes can sound
00:15:22This was a yes
00:15:23Of course it was a yes
00:15:24Are you kidding me?
00:15:26That was fantastic
00:15:27Come on down here
00:15:27You're going to Hollywood week
00:15:29Thank you
00:15:30Go out and celebrate
00:15:38This golden ticket was 100% for my family and my community in the Palisades
00:15:43This has definitely been one of the most challenging years
00:15:46But I've learned that I can keep powering through and the light will keep on shining
00:15:50Hollywood week is upon you
00:15:55That's a definite top tenner
00:15:57That's a different kind of 16
00:16:00I agree
00:16:01Now that's a different kind of 16 year old
00:16:03Wow
00:16:04I will give you nothing but my love for you

00:17:03So I actually dressed up as you for Halloween after you won Idol
00:17:07I was five years old
00:17:09My mom is awesome
00:17:11She sent a photo to you and I got a little postcard back
00:17:15It's dated December 2006

00:17:26Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue
00:17:28Wow
00:17:29You're already making Carrie happy
00:17:32What just happened?
00:17:39You know I'm a dreamer
00:17:44But my heart's of gold
00:17:46And to run away high
00:17:50So when you come home low
00:17:53I'm on my way
00:17:56I'm on my way
00:17:59Home Sweet Home
00:18:20All righty
00:18:22Cameron, you're very comfortable in playing and singing and emoting, which is really refreshing
00:18:30Thank you
00:18:31You've got a nice voice
00:18:33But I just don't know if it's all the way there yet for Idol
00:18:36I'm trying to place you in a setting where seven songs in is the house going to come down
00:18:43I'm still not quite clear on that element of it
00:18:48Yeah
00:18:50It's going to be a no, but it's a real optimistic no
00:18:52Okay
00:18:53You have a good voice
00:18:55I would love to hear more fire in there
00:18:57It's just crazy
00:18:58I know, I know
00:18:59But if you can find that sass and push your voice
00:19:03I think you deserve a chance to do that
00:19:06Thank you
00:19:07So it's a yes for me
00:19:09I'm going to work my butt off
00:19:14I'm a no
00:19:14Okay
00:19:16Thank you
00:19:16Before I go, can I sing it with you?
00:19:19Let's do it
00:19:19Okay
00:19:21That's so cool that you would ask
00:19:25Okay
00:19:27Can you start or do I have to start?
00:19:29Did y'all plan this?
00:19:30No!
00:19:33All right, I'll go
00:19:34Okay
00:19:47I was hoping that the saying no part would get easier
00:19:56And it did not
00:19:59It's a no for me
00:20:01And it's, I was like 15 years old
00:20:05And I had a chance
00:20:07And it didn't work out
00:20:08And if it had, it would have been the worst thing
00:20:10That had ever happened to me
00:20:11So just keep at it, girlfriend
00:20:15I don't want to BS these kids
00:20:17I don't want to fluff them
00:20:19You know, I want to make sure they understand
00:20:21They're not ready yet
00:20:22I would really like to see you
00:20:24Spend more time working on your vocals
00:20:27Yeah, it's a no for me
00:20:30It's a no for me, bud
00:20:31Thank you for being here
00:20:32Thank y'all
00:20:33Thank you
00:20:33Thank you, man
00:20:35It was a no
00:20:36You always just want to really reassure them
00:20:40That it's not their time yet
00:20:42I'm going to give you an encouraging no
00:20:44I want to push you
00:20:46And I want you to find some fire in there
00:20:48Thank you
00:20:48And for them to go continue their path
00:20:51In the music business
00:21:09There you go
00:21:11It was like one of the best moments of my life
00:21:14Thank you
00:21:15Thank you
00:21:15Lionel, they rehearsed that somewhere
00:21:17We did not
00:21:19Thank you
00:21:19Thank you
00:21:20I'm on my way
00:21:23I'm on my way
00:21:25I finally sang that piece of pepper out of my throat
00:21:28Oh, God
00:21:28Luke, be careful
00:21:31Tonight, tonight
00:21:32No
00:21:33Yeah
00:21:34It's okay
00:21:35I got to sing with Carrie
00:21:36You guys are heartless
00:21:38We are not heartless
00:21:39We are heartless
00:21:40I'm 1,000% going to keep singing
00:21:42It's my whole life
00:21:43It's what I believe I was put on this earth to do
00:21:45And I'm going to keep doing it
00:21:48All right
00:21:48I'm on my way
00:21:51I'm on my way
00:21:53Home sweet home
00:22:00My name is Michael Garner
00:22:01I'm from Palestine, Arkansas
00:22:03And I'm a sophomore in high school
00:22:04Hey, y'all
00:22:05What's up?
00:22:05All right
00:22:06Hey
00:22:06Gosh, how old are you?
00:22:08I'm 16 years old
00:22:10That's great
00:22:10Days of money
00:22:12When I found out I was going to be able to audition
00:22:14I started busting out crying
00:22:16Me and my mom and my dad
00:22:17We're going to give you a shot
00:22:18Are you serious?
00:22:20Yes, I am serious
00:22:21I feel like this audition could definitely change my lives
00:22:25And my family's lives
00:22:26But you're a long way
00:22:29He's going to do great
00:22:30We all believe in him
00:22:32We're behind you
00:22:33We love you
00:22:35I've watched Idol with my family for a long time
00:22:40This has always been mine and their dream
00:22:42I always said that I was going to be on there someday
00:22:45And here I am
00:22:46But what do you do in Arkansas
00:22:48Other than music?
00:22:49You know, deer hunt, duck hunt
00:22:51The only thing there really is in Arkansas is football games and back roads, you know
00:22:54A little bit nervous going in there?
00:22:55Yeah
00:22:55I think so
00:22:56It's the biggest stage he's ever been on runs
00:22:58It's a big one
00:22:59Yeah
00:22:59What kind of music are you into?
00:23:01Country
00:23:02All right
00:23:02This man says what he says and he says what he says
00:23:06I like it, man, a few words
00:23:07What are you going to sing?
00:23:08I'm going to sing I'm Still Fine by the Red Clay Straits
00:23:10Perfect
00:23:11All right
00:23:11Let's hear it
00:23:13I'm on display
00:23:18I've lost my way
00:23:21Oh God, I pray
00:23:23Let this pass over
00:23:27I lost the note
00:23:31I rocked the ball
00:23:35I've even choked
00:23:38I lost my compulsion
00:23:41People here living it up
00:23:44I think they're blind
00:23:47I think they're out of their mind
00:23:50Like one of them has had this
00:23:56God's not giving me up
00:23:58No, I'm just fine
00:24:01It's just a matter of time
00:24:04Though I can't feel my sadness
00:24:09I know that it should be there
00:24:12But baby, I'm just too tired to care
00:24:16Cause I'm still fine
00:24:22All right
00:24:23Thank you
00:24:28Where's he going?
00:24:29Boom
00:24:30Boom
00:24:30There you go
00:24:32Boom
00:24:32I wish you were like 20 years old
00:24:36I mean, I believe I'm ready
00:24:37You know, I'm willing to give y'all everything I got
00:24:40Yeah, you are
00:24:41You're really good
00:24:41You are
00:24:42Whatever happens today
00:24:43You're on the right path
00:24:45Yes, ma'am
00:24:45What you do with your voice
00:24:48Is definitely beyond 16
00:24:49Like I feel like you have a control
00:24:51And a composure about yourself
00:24:54I think I'm gonna
00:24:55I'm gonna be wrestling over here
00:24:58I think your opening was just nerves
00:25:02That look has not caught up
00:25:03To that matured voice
00:25:05I have to think about this
00:25:07While Luke is talking to you
00:25:09If we say no to him
00:25:10What are we doing here
00:25:11Yeah, yeah
00:25:12I know what you see
00:25:13In my opinion
00:25:13I mean, I know he's young
00:25:15But we're all saying that he sings great
00:25:21She's just playing guitar great
00:25:23And he's singing pretty daggone good
00:25:26So I look at you
00:25:28And I see my son
00:25:30And I would not throw him
00:25:33In the middle of it
00:25:35Where you are at 16
00:25:38So that's where I'm coming from
00:25:41A no for me
00:25:46What do we do with this young prodigy?
00:25:54It's a yes for me
00:26:06Nice
00:26:07Tears
00:26:07Tickets
00:26:11Congratulations
00:26:12Come over here young man
00:26:13Was that terrifying?
00:26:15I mean
00:26:15Flying in front of him
00:26:17We did it
00:26:18We're going to Hollywood week
00:26:20Let's go
00:26:20He's country Justin Bieber
00:26:22That scares the crap out of me
00:26:23Because I'm like
00:26:24Listen
00:26:24Listen, you're right
00:26:25And all I can think about
00:26:27Is
00:26:29Justin Timberlake
00:26:33You can't take the mama
00:26:35You can't take the mama out of me
00:26:37Since when do you have a heart
00:26:40And you're a mother?
00:26:42Miss Carrie
00:26:43I just want to say
00:26:45I'm going to prove
00:26:46To you that I have what it takes
00:26:54It's been a good day
00:26:57Hello, hello
00:26:58Hey
00:27:00Tell us all about yourself
00:27:02My name is Sheldon Riley
00:27:03I'm 26 years old
00:27:04From Melbourne, Australia
00:27:07Melbourne
00:27:08What you doing here?
00:27:10American Idol, huh?
00:27:11You're crazy
00:27:16I wanted to do music
00:27:17Since I was a really young kid
00:27:19When I was maybe about 15 years old
00:27:21I sung at my school
00:27:24And I remember that first applause
00:27:25I was like
00:27:26Yeah, this is what I want to do
00:27:27I love the way it made me feel
00:27:29I love the way that it made me feel noticed
00:27:32About 10 years ago
00:27:33I auditioned for a big TV show
00:27:35Back in Australia
00:27:37It was my big moment
00:27:39And I sung my song
00:27:42And they said it wasn't quite enough
00:27:45Just you singing
00:27:46It's not enough
00:27:47That experience made me doubt myself
00:27:52It made me feel I had to play a character
00:27:54Just to be seen
00:27:57I kind of created this character
00:27:59That dressed up like crazy
00:28:01The most avant-garde
00:28:02High fashion
00:28:03Crystals and diamonds
00:28:05And it was the thing
00:28:06That made people see me
00:28:09It just kind of took off
00:28:11I had opportunities like crazy
00:28:13Not just Australia
00:28:14But the entire world
00:28:18I've been on every TV show competition
00:28:21Known to men
00:28:21I've done it all
00:28:22And the art was just getting crazier
00:28:25And crazier and crazier
00:28:26It almost felt like an addiction
00:28:28To be the most memorable person in the room
00:28:31But I'd come home
00:28:33I'd take the mask off
00:28:35The makeup
00:28:36The accessories
00:28:37The everything
00:28:37And I would hate the person
00:28:40That I saw in the mirror
00:28:40Hated that version of me
00:28:47So I took two years off
00:28:50And remembered
00:28:52Why that little kid
00:28:53Got up on stage
00:28:54That first time
00:28:54And this is the one show
00:28:56There's no smoke
00:28:57There's no mirrors
00:28:58No nothing
00:28:58And I said to myself
00:28:59If I was going to come back into music
00:29:01It would be here
00:29:02With just the piano
00:29:03And just me
00:29:03And if you don't like it
00:29:05You don't like it
00:29:06I don't ever know
00:29:07If anyone's ever really going to want
00:29:08What I have to give
00:29:09Without everything
00:29:11That I usually put on
00:29:13That's a big part of why I'm here
00:29:15Just to remind myself
00:29:17That my voice is enough
00:29:21Everybody's got their version
00:29:22Of what you just said
00:29:24You know
00:29:24Everybody's got their mask
00:29:26Whether it is something physical
00:29:27That they hide behind
00:29:28Or this certain identity
00:29:31That they've created for themselves
00:29:33And you know
00:29:34Then of course you do worry
00:29:36That if I wasn't that
00:29:37Would anyone still love me?
00:29:40Yeah
00:29:40You're very relatable
00:29:41Thank you
00:29:42What are you going to sing
00:29:43For us today?
00:29:45This is Brother by Matt Corby

00:29:48Very good
00:29:49Yeah
00:29:50Alright, thank you
00:30:11Somebody call out to your brother
00:30:14He's calling out your name
00:30:19Hiding under the covers
00:30:21With no one else to blame
00:30:26You couldn't help out your own neighbor
00:30:29You couldn't tell it to his face
00:30:31You were messed up by the blame
00:30:37You're carrying the corner
00:30:39Can't fight it further
00:30:42Let it out
00:30:44Say
00:30:46Yeah
00:30:47Even if it burns
00:30:50Away
00:30:56Wait there
00:30:59Pull yourself out of this state
00:31:02I didn't acknowledge
00:31:05You were a fake
00:31:08Here
00:31:09And from then
00:31:10You might just
00:31:12Roll
00:31:13Roll

00:31:15Roll
00:31:15Roll
00:31:16Roll
00:31:19Somebody call out to your brother
00:31:22He's calling out your name
00:31:25Whoa
00:31:25Yeah
00:31:29You couldn't help out your own neighbor
00:31:32You couldn't tell it to his face
00:31:35You were messed up by the blame
00:31:43Yeah
00:31:44Wow
00:31:46Thanks
00:31:49You're crazy talented
00:31:50Crazy unbelievable
00:31:52Thank you
00:31:53Don't know why you ever had to wear the mask
00:31:55Because you're an amazing looking person
00:31:56Yeah
00:31:57Thanks
00:31:58You being the loudest guy in the room
00:31:59You don't always have to be that
00:32:01Being the most dynamic singer in the room
00:32:03You don't have to be that
00:32:04It's okay to just peel a layer off
00:32:07But that was impressive
00:32:09Thank you
00:32:10You're an artist man
00:32:11And you're authentic
00:32:12I love
00:32:14I love

00:39:27I'm feeling exposed
00:39:30But I can't hide no more
00:39:33I can't hide
00:39:34As the sun shines on all of the glory
00:39:38My flaws don't look so bad at all
00:39:42What was I so afraid of?
00:39:46Every part of me is a vision
00:39:49Of a portrait of Mona
00:39:51Of Mona Lisa
00:39:56Every part of me is beautiful
00:39:59And I'll finally see
00:40:02I'm a work of art
00:40:05I'm a masterpiece
00:40:07Oh-oh-oh-oh
00:40:10Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

00:40:28Yeah, you guys.
00:40:28Yeah, Lionel.
00:40:29Yeah, they had that, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:40:32Thank you, thank you so much.
00:40:35Carrie?
00:40:36Very sweet.
00:40:37I feel like you were so sweet and smiley,
00:40:40and I feel like it needed maybe a little more
00:40:43staying in character, just a little bit.
00:40:46Okay.
00:40:46Okay.
00:40:46But you have a fabulous voice.
00:40:49Absolutely.
00:40:50Thank you so much.
00:40:51Luke?
00:40:51Yeah, I mean, surprisingly, you've got a nice country
00:40:53tone to it, I mean.
00:40:55It's a soulful country.
00:40:56Yeah, soulful country, and even on the song
00:40:59with the whole group, you really had some
00:41:01great vocal moments, too.
00:41:03Okay, thank you.
00:41:04Let's vote, Carrie?
00:41:05I would like to hear more.
00:41:07It's a yes for me.
00:41:10Oh my gosh.
00:41:12Yes.
00:41:13Yay!
00:41:14It's a yes for me, without a doubt.
00:41:18Welcome to the university.
00:41:20Oh my gosh.
00:41:21You got it.
00:41:21Thank you so much.
00:41:23It's so nice to meet you.
00:41:24It's so nice to meet you.
00:41:25Sing it with me.
00:41:26It's so good, you guys.
00:41:27Hey, it's fantastic.
00:41:29Great support.
00:41:33That was amazing.
00:41:34Oh my gosh.
00:41:35Can't really believe what just happened.
00:41:37But it's okay.
00:41:38Pinch me.
00:41:49I couldn't stop looking at her baby knees.
00:41:52Her what?
00:41:53Baby knees.
00:41:55When you have like a face in your knees.
00:41:58Oh really?
00:41:59Do you know baby knees?
00:42:00I've never heard of that.
00:42:01I have baby knees.
00:42:03Oh really?
00:42:03Right after Kate and William had their baby George, right?
00:42:09Right.
00:42:09Yeah, George.
00:42:09Yeah.
00:42:09My knees were in a magazine and it was like, Prince George's face is in Carrie Underwood's
00:42:15knees.
00:42:16And I was like, what the crap is going on with my knees?
00:42:20So I have baby faces in my knees and I can make them sing too.
00:42:25You can make them sing?
00:42:26It was like, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah.
00:42:31I gotta check my knees now.
00:42:32All right.
00:42:34That's crazy.
00:42:53Ah, there we are.
00:42:55Hello.
00:42:55How you doing?
00:42:56Good, how are you?
00:42:57Great.
00:42:58What's your name?
00:42:59Hannah Harper.
00:43:00Where are you from?
00:43:00Willow Springs, Missouri.
00:43:02Where did you get that dress?
00:43:03This was homemade.
00:43:05If this doesn't scream yee haw, I don't know what will.
00:43:08What kind of music do you perform, listen to?
00:43:11I grew up doing bluegrass.
00:43:13My family had a bluegrass gospel band, went church to church and sang at churches.
00:43:19I grew up in a super musical family.
00:43:21My dad worked at the lead mine for several years.
00:43:24One evening he was just feeling like God was calling him to do something different with
00:43:27his life.
00:43:27So in 2009 my parents quit their jobs and we bought a bus and went on the road as a
00:43:32family
00:43:32band.
00:43:34The tour bus was 40 foot long.
00:43:37It was bright red.
00:43:38And we lived on the bus for seven years.
00:43:41We just would go coast to coast and play banjos and sing for the Lord.
00:43:46It was a very unconventional upbringing, but I literally wouldn't trade it for anything
00:43:50in the world.
00:43:59We didn't come back into Missouri until 2016.
00:44:01We settled back down and then I met my husband.
00:44:04We got married and we found out we were pregnant with our first baby like four months after we
00:44:08got married.
00:44:09We got married.
00:44:09Every morning.
00:44:10Oh, right in the noggin.
00:44:12I'm sorry, buddy.
00:44:14Then one turned to three really fast.
00:44:16With three boys it comes a lot of chaos.
00:44:18Same old coffee.
00:44:19And a lot of fun.
00:44:21Same old coffee.
00:44:22Same old coffee cup.
00:44:22Watch your head.
00:44:23Cy, why are you standing up there?
00:44:25Same old house.
00:44:26Same old stuff.
00:44:29It's just hectic at all times.
00:44:31Mom, eat some piece of paper.
00:44:34Or is he trying to wind up?
00:44:35Let's eat some pizza and then you can go take a nap.
00:44:37Do you want to go na-na?
00:44:38No!
00:44:39No!
00:44:40I'm trying out for the show just because I want the opportunity to give the boys the
00:44:43same life that I had growing up in a bigger way, if possible, to be able to sustain
00:44:47my family and do music full time.
00:44:52I have two boys.
00:44:54They make things more interesting.
00:44:55Oh, for sure.
00:44:56Yeah.
00:44:56Mine's been screaming all day.
00:44:58Good.
00:44:58Yay.
00:44:59That's great.
00:45:00Love it.
00:45:00What are you going to sing for us today?
00:45:02I'm going to sing an original that I wrote called String Cheese.
00:45:05You're like my favorite person.
00:45:06You're wearing homemade clothes.
00:45:08You're singing songs called String Cheese.
00:45:10What's the song about?
00:45:11My youngest is one and shortly after he was born, I had postpartum depression and so I
00:45:16was sitting on my couch.
00:45:16I said I wasn't going to cry.
00:45:20I was sitting on my couch wallowing.
00:45:24And you have boys, you know, everybody wants to touch you.
00:45:28And I didn't want to be touched.
00:45:31And my youngest son, like I was just having a pity party and praying that the Lord would
00:45:36calm my spirit.
00:45:40And my son kept coming up to me.
00:45:42He said, Mom, open this.
00:45:43Mom, open this.
00:45:43Open my cheese.
00:45:44I'm like, leave me alone with the dadgum cheese.
00:45:46And I finally opened his cheese.
00:45:48And when I did, I realized that God had put me in that place and that where I was in
00:45:51my
00:45:51house was the biggest ministry that I could ever have.
00:45:55And being a mom, so I gathered myself and I got up off the couch and I quit throwing a
00:46:01pity party.
00:46:02And I realized that that was exactly what I wanted.
00:46:05And I kind of kicked the postpartum depression in the butt and I said I ain't doing it.
00:46:09There you go.
00:46:10So I wrote this song called String Cheese.
00:46:14Do you need a second?
00:46:15I want to give you like.
00:46:17Probably just give me one second.
00:46:18Yeah.
00:46:19I can't, I can't cry and sing, so.
00:46:22I don't want to put you in that position.
00:46:25Here.
00:46:25Thank you so much.
00:46:34Ready?
00:46:35I think so.
00:47:02Huh.
00:47:06Always crying.
00:47:07It's pure chaos, but I don't miss a beat.
00:47:12Always knew that a nine to five wouldn't suit me very good.
00:47:18But my hours are extended.
00:47:21That's just motherhood.
00:47:24I never knew this is what my twenties would look like.
00:47:30But they saved me before I had the chance to waste my life.
00:47:35One day I'll be alone with a hot, fresh cup of joe.
00:47:43Wishing that someone would just drop me by.
00:47:48And I'll sit and reminisce on times that I sure miss.
00:47:55I've scattered toys and a baby on my hip.
00:47:59I thought finding peace in the quiet's what I wanted.
00:48:06But I'd do anything to go back to being needed.
00:48:12To those days I want to cry, run away and hide.
00:48:19But I'd worry about their every need.
00:48:24When I'm overwhelmed and touched out.
00:48:28They come climbing up on the couch saying,
00:48:32Mama, can you open my strange cheeks?
00:48:36I smile because I know meeting their needs fills my soul.
00:48:44Being their mama is who I'm meant to be.
00:48:52Here's theцию.
00:48:53That's great.
00:48:54Do you have more features?
00:48:55Oh.
00:48:57My turn.
00:49:00This pack is going quick.
00:49:05Um, well that's about the most relatable song I think I've ever heard.
00:49:12Hannah great job thank you great job just with that mountainous bluegrass sound that you have
00:49:20in there I kept thinking like Casey Musgraves is in there I kept thinking certainly Allison
00:49:26Krause a little dolly a little dolly in there and gosh even if we got you to lean in more
00:49:32on it
00:49:33fill the room a little more you're gonna be able to move some people but great song way to really
00:49:38uh right the moment you're in yeah I want you to use dolly as the example of two things one
00:49:45her
00:49:45storytelling ability and two she has the ability to tell that story and then give us a lift you've
00:49:53got the range I would have loved to have found you just on one of those lines just hold it
00:49:57for a minute
00:49:58I was going up but then I chickened out because I was crying yeah it was hard to come from

00:57:38I woke up with a headache today cause I've got a mortgage due and an empty bed to make.
00:57:54Baby, I bet you're happy now.
00:58:00Probably found just someone new who's got his life all figured out.
00:58:10Girl, I thought it was love.
00:58:17Girl, I knew it was love.
00:58:24I guess I didn't know what love was.
00:58:39Good job.
00:58:42You have a really pretty voice.
00:58:45Like your range is really great.
00:58:47You're hitting some high notes in there.
00:58:50Yeah.
00:58:50But it would be great if you could put some oomph in there.
00:58:53Yeah.
00:58:53We actually might have something to sing together.
00:58:56Okay.
00:58:56Cool.
00:58:58Let's hear y'all do one.
00:58:59Okay.
00:59:00Let's see where you go.
00:59:01Just sing.
00:59:01Have fun like you're in the living room.
00:59:03You got it.
00:59:04Okay.
00:59:05Let me be your star.
00:59:14I just have to forget the hurt that came before.
00:59:19Forget what used to be.
00:59:23The past is on the cutting room floor.
00:59:27The future is here with me.
00:59:33Choose me.
00:59:35Choose me.
00:59:37Choose me.
00:59:38It's all you've been needing.
00:59:41It's all here and my heart's bleeding.
00:59:44Let me be your star.
00:59:56Wow.
00:59:57That was great.
00:59:58Wow.
01:00:00I learned.
01:00:01Oh, you sound so good.
01:00:03Friends and the family.
01:00:04I learned something.
01:00:06It's very good.
01:00:07It was very present there.
01:00:08We just got to get you to cut loose a little bit.
01:00:10I think the piano is forcing you to be very proper.
01:00:14Oh, you should see me with a band.
01:00:15Well, we got to get you to the band.
01:00:18That's very true.
01:00:19That's very true.
01:00:20I think that the only way she's going to actually understand this thing called roughing up is to put her
01:00:27in a brawl.
01:00:28The only way to put you in a brawl is to say yes so you can go to the next
01:00:33level and meet the rest of this crazy class and you'll understand what this means.
01:00:38Oh, yeah.
01:00:38Okay?
01:00:39So it's a yes for me.
01:00:40Hey.
01:00:41I think your voice has definitely earned you a yes, but I want to see some fire.
01:00:47I can show it.
01:00:48I kind of believe you can.
01:00:50There's a yes.
01:00:51Hey.
01:00:53Let me see the glass.
01:00:54Boom, boom.
01:00:55Ding, ding, ding.
01:00:56Not too hard there.
01:00:56Not too hard.
01:00:57I need you to come get your golden ticket.
01:01:00Yeah.
01:01:01Oh, my God.
01:01:03I have an announcement.
01:01:05We're going to Hollywood.
01:01:06You're going to holiday.
01:01:08Oops.
01:01:09You're going to Hollywood.
01:01:11You're going to Hollywood.
01:01:17I have an announcement.
01:01:20I swear, I swear it's true.
01:01:22I think today I played it very safe, but they will see the fire that is inside me and they
01:01:27will see me roar.
01:01:28I concur.
01:01:30She didn't seem villainous.
01:01:32No.
01:01:33Nice to meet you.
01:01:35Thank you for coming.
01:01:36Seriously, thank you.
01:01:37By the way, are you still dating Jared?
01:01:40Is that true?
01:01:41Is that real?
01:01:41I was always wondering.
01:01:44Lean on me and when you're not strong, I'll be afraid.
01:01:53I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on.
01:02:08I just might have a problem that you understand.
01:02:14We all need somebody to lean on.
01:02:20You just call me.
01:02:23You just call me.
01:02:25You just call me.
01:02:29You just call me.
01:02:30You just call me.
01:02:33Cool.
01:02:34All right.
01:02:35Woo!
01:02:37Thank you so much.
01:02:39I have never seen you just jump out of that chair.
01:02:42It made me happy.
01:02:43She was like, I was like, is she gonna rush the artist?
01:02:46I think it is because, you know, you did your own thing with it.
01:02:50It sounded fresh.
01:02:51And I feel like it was such a smart song choice.
01:02:55It was just mwah.
01:02:58You know, I'm telling you, familiarity is everything.
01:03:00A big voice.
01:03:03Once you go to the kaboom, it's magnificent.
01:03:08You took that song that the world has heard a million times and you made it very authentically you,
01:03:15which that says you're an artist in your own mind and your own right.
01:03:19I appreciate it.
01:03:22Tinashe, I'm a yay.
01:03:25I'm a yes.
01:03:26Yay.
01:03:26Yes.
01:03:27Yes.
01:03:28Thank you so much.
01:03:29There we go.
01:03:29Wow.
01:03:29You need this.
01:03:30Break the news.
01:03:31Go to Hollywood Week.
01:03:32Okay.
01:03:33Thank you so much.
01:03:34Can I shake your hands?
01:03:35Oh, please.
01:03:36It was an absolute pleasure.
01:03:37Pleasure.
01:03:37The standing ovation from Carrie Underwood was, was insane.
01:03:40And, here he comes with...
01:03:46Just call me when you need a friend.
01:03:50I'm going to Hollywood Week!
01:03:57I appreciate you coming.
01:03:58It means a world, you know, I know you're going to do great.
01:04:01You got it.
01:04:03Love you, though.
01:04:04Love you.
01:04:06My name is Braden Rumfelt.
01:04:08I'm 22 years old and I'm from Murphy, North Carolina.
01:04:16When I was young, my life revolved around baseball.
01:04:20My twin brother, Kellen, and I played sports constantly.
01:04:25Dad was dead set on us becoming college athletes.
01:04:32Unfortunately, going into high school, I was starting to have knee pain in both of my legs.
01:04:36Tell me how to be in this world.
01:04:38Then I found out that I have a congenital issue.
01:04:42My legs are naturally in the wrong position.
01:04:46Tell me how to be in this world.
01:04:48I needed surgery.
01:04:49I needed two lower leg realignments.
01:04:53That put a stop to the dreams of becoming an athlete.
01:04:58It was tough seeing everybody be able to get to do what I wanted to do.
01:05:04As I'm hurt, it kind of hit me like, wait, I feel better when I am singing.
01:05:10And my twin brother, Kellen, was there for me.
01:05:14He was kind of like my voice of encouragement.
01:05:19Growing up till now, I always felt that his talent is music, is singing.
01:05:24And I couldn't be more proud of Braden because of everything that he's going through,
01:05:29where he's at now with pursuing his new dream.
01:05:32He's my hero.
01:05:35The only reason that I hadn't signed up for American Idol was because I was scared.
01:05:40This is my dream.
01:05:41I didn't know that I would get like a, you know, a chance like this.
01:05:45So this is, this is really awesome.
01:05:49Hey.
01:05:51How's it going?
01:05:52I'm really good.
01:05:53Who are you?
01:05:54My name's Braden Rumfelt.
01:05:56I'm 22 years old.
01:05:57I'm from Murphy, North Carolina.
01:05:58This is my twin, Kellen.
01:06:00Twin brother.
01:06:00Oh, yeah.
01:06:01Did y'all grow up playing music together?
01:06:03We did.
01:06:04As long as I've been sentient, I've been singing.
01:06:07Good deal.
01:06:07Good deal.
01:06:08What do you want to sing for us?
01:06:10Girl Crush by Little Big Town.
01:06:12Let's hear it.
01:06:13You ready?
01:06:14Yep, I'm ready to go.
01:06:22I got a girl crush.
01:06:25Hate to admit it, but
01:06:28I've got a heart rush.
01:06:32Ain't slowing down.
01:06:36Yeah, I want to taste her lips.
01:06:40Yeah, cause they taste like you.
01:06:44I want to drown myself in a bottle of her perfume.
01:06:51I want her long blood and hair.
01:06:55I want her magic hush.
01:06:59Yeah, cause maybe then you'd want me just as much.
01:07:06And I've got a girl crush.
01:07:08I've got a girl crush.
01:07:10I've got a girl crush.
01:07:36But you might want her alone down here
01:07:41I want her magic touch
01:07:45Yeah, cause maybe then
01:07:49You'd want me just as much
01:07:53And I've got a girlfriend
01:07:56Oh
01:08:00And I've got a girlfriend
01:08:11That's good. That's good. That's good. That's good. That's good. What do you think, Carrie?
01:08:15I'm happy. I'm happy.
01:08:17Surprising. I don't know what I expected to come out of your mouth, but that wasn't it and made me
01:08:23happy.
01:08:23I feel like you are very nervous.
01:08:27I am.
01:08:27Got to loosen up.
01:08:28Like, I wanted to come out there and just, like, shake your arms and throw your vest across the room,
01:08:34and I think you're a racehorse, man.
01:08:36Don't you agree?
01:08:37I agree.
01:08:38You have a top end to your voice.
01:08:41It's not as high as Steve Perry, but the texture when you get up there is so sweet, man.
01:08:49It doesn't break.
01:08:49No, it does not.
01:08:51And we can wake the outside of you up to combine it with the inside of you, what's coming out.
01:08:59We've got show business.
01:09:02Oh, he can sing, y'all.
01:09:03Oh, yeah, he can.
01:09:04Yes, he can.
01:09:05He'll do really good in this competition.
01:09:06He'll do really great.
01:09:07I think we can one, two, three it.
01:09:08Yeah.
01:09:09One, two, three.
01:09:10Here we go.

01:09:19I appreciate it.
01:09:20Good job.
01:09:20Got to get a handshake on you, too, man.
01:09:22Come on.
01:09:22Don't be fooling around.
01:09:23Yes, sir.
01:09:23Good job, twin, brother.
01:09:25Great job.
01:09:26Good seeing you, man.
01:09:27All right.

01:09:33We're fired up.
01:09:35Let's go.
01:09:36Like, are we?
01:09:38Is this real?
01:09:39You know, I almost wanted to pinch myself.
01:09:42That was nice.
01:09:44Heck yeah.
01:09:44They love it.
01:09:45Staying it.
01:09:45Staying it over.
01:09:46With the struggles that I've had over the years, couldn't be happier.
01:09:51He is 80% of what he could be doing.
01:09:54He's got such potential.
01:09:57You want me just as much.
01:10:01I've got a better place.
01:10:06That was crazy to see how well he did.
01:10:10We've got a lot of memories together under our belt, and I wouldn't be here without his
01:10:15help.
01:10:16And I love this guy.
01:10:18He's the best.
01:10:19You're going to make me cry, dude.
01:10:20I'm going to Hollywood week.
01:10:27Yeah.
01:10:31An old cowpoke went riding out a dark and windy day.
01:10:37Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way.
01:10:41When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw.
01:10:44Flowing through those ragged skies and up the cloudy draw.
01:10:52Yippee-eye-eye-eye-eye-eye-eye.
01:11:00For this ghost riders in the sky.
01:11:08Sorry, that was...
01:11:09There you go.
01:11:10It happens.
01:11:12You know, Matthew, I mean, right now, you're just doing sing-along.
01:11:16We're talking about lead singer, center stage, crowd screaming at you.
01:11:22I'm going to give you a passionate no, because you're passionate about this business.
01:11:28I think that passion is going to take you a long way.
01:11:30Don't lose that spark, man.
01:11:33It's a no.
01:11:34It's a no today, but I'm not going to stop working.
01:11:36I'm not going to give up.
01:11:40I'm going to make the best of this moment.
01:11:42You have been on some amazing platforms.
01:11:47You've been with national recording artists.
01:11:50But today is your day.
01:11:53Hi.
01:11:54Come on in.
01:11:56What's your name?
01:11:57My name is Tiana Roberts.
01:11:59What brings you to us today?
01:12:01I'm just ready to get myself out there, take the risk.
01:12:06That's just kind of been my motto for the year.
01:12:08No risk, no story.
01:12:09No risk, no story.
01:12:11What's the deal with that?
01:12:12Well, last year, I had a miscarriage.
01:12:16That moment made me realize that life is short, and I could just think of all the things that I
01:12:21didn't do because I was too scared.
01:12:23I decided that the risk was worth the sacrifice.
01:12:26So, no risk, no story.
01:12:28So, here I am.
01:12:30I like that.
01:12:31Very good.
01:12:31Well, what are you going to be singing for us?
01:12:34I'm going to be singing a hymn called Pass Me Not.
01:12:44Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour
01:13:00I'm going to be singing for you.
01:13:24Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour
01:13:30I'm crying, Saviour
01:13:35Oh, Saviour

01:16:54my name is Julian Kalel Amansan I'm from El Paso Texas and I'm 19 years old
01:17:01last year at audition I had no idea what to expect obviously I was terrified when I talk about it
01:17:08with
01:17:08my sister we both say that we kind of just blacked out and gave a performance of our lives I
01:17:15guess
01:17:17there's a hole in my chest
01:17:22knock me down lay me to rest
01:17:27drown my thoughts with kerosene I performed an original song called surrender which talks about the
01:17:34struggles of anxiety and depression
01:17:38if his world did I have waged I'll raise a flag
01:17:42but fate is in his hands
01:17:44I felt like I was at your show just now

01:18:11he may win this thing
01:18:14he literally might win it
01:18:17it was one of the greatest moments of my life
01:18:19oh I surrender
01:18:20I'm going to Hollywood
01:18:26unfortunately though I was not able to continue forward
01:18:31there were shared concerns about my abilities to balance a journey like American Idol and my mental health
01:18:42I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression my freshman year of high school
01:18:47but I had been struggling with those feelings for a big part of my life
01:18:51I mean through even elementary and middle school
01:18:55he came up to us and said I am not okay there's something happening with me
01:18:59I mean it's a knife to your chest because you're thinking you know what's going on what's what's happening
01:19:06and he said I'm sad all the time
01:19:11for me anxiety is just like a big wave crashing on you and you just drown
01:19:19I was pushing the value of my life
01:19:24you have to look in the mirror and recognize that mental health professionals need to get involved
01:19:31and that there's no shame in that
01:19:39and that there's no shame in that
01:19:40music is my lifeline it's what keeps me grounded
01:19:45I had so much to smile about with my audition
01:19:47and I just knew like I really regret it if I didn't give this another shot
01:19:52I'm just hoping that whatever I'm doing just reflects the message of just not giving up
01:19:58and most importantly to not be defined by your struggles but by your strengths
01:20:04I choke up just thinking about it because I'm very lucky to be here you know life is a gift
01:20:11for you to come back out here to try this we're very happy and proud of you
01:20:16we're so happy to be here thank you so much
01:20:18so what are you going to do for us the song today is called long guitar
01:20:22I wrote it at a very dark time in my life where I was at a crossroads of deciding whether
01:20:27or not
01:20:27to give up or to keep going huh and found that you know it's as simple as just stay one
01:20:33more day
01:20:33that's the message it's been rough it's we've had some rough years and this song in particular it's um
01:20:42it's suicide prevention basically
01:20:51what do you see when you look at me
01:20:57the blessings that i'm letting go lord you forgive so easily it's getting harder to find peace
01:21:07get the chance to grow old but i'm not the man that i should never felt travel
01:21:15hell and die every night too far gone for prayer just a boy afraid to die
01:21:26oh heartache stare words unspoken the burden of my flaws an empty chair a family broken pain is all
01:21:36i cause i should stay i should stay you walk in daydream thoughts unholy damn near giving up
01:21:47hug your mama till there's just enough to see that old sun rise
01:21:56i should stay i should stay oh i'll stitch phones and learn to love these remarks along the way
01:22:06oh i should stay lord let me stay
01:22:11i got too much to give i gotta love you so say don't wanna make my old man cry
01:22:19leave my mama screaming why guess i'm in this bleeding heart light head in my way
01:22:28to the boy alone in suffering thinking no one understands
01:22:33if it's strange that you need you don't have to be a man
