Secret Service REACTS On Shooting An Armed Man Near White House

U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire on an armed suspect near the Washington Monument, close to the White House. The individual reportedly fired at officers before attempting to flee, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. The suspect was shot and hospitalized, while a teenage bystander was caught in the crossfire but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident triggered a temporary lockdown around the White House, raising fresh concerns over security in the U.S. capital. Authorities remain on high alert following recent violent incidents, including a prior shooting linked to the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Officials are still investigating whether the latest attack had any connection to threats against President Donald Trump.

00:00Approximately 3.30 this afternoon, our plainclothes officers and agents that
00:06consistently patrol the outer perimeter of the White House complex identified a
00:11suspicious individual that appeared to have a firearm. They called in support
00:16from our marked uniform Secret Service police to make contact with that
00:21individual. Upon making contact, that individual fled briefly on foot, withdrew
00:26a firearm and fired in the direction of our agents and officers. They returned
00:31fire and engaged. That individual was hit. He's since been transported to the
00:37hospital. I have no comments on his condition. I can tell you that at least
00:42one, we believe only one bystander was hit by the suspect. That individual, it's a
00:48juvenile, did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, but he's also
00:53receiving treatment at the hospital. I'll point out that not long before this
00:59shooting occurred, the vice president's motorcade did transit through this area.
01:04The investigation itself in terms of the use of force in the shooting will be
01:09conducted by Metropom Police Department. I'll pause there. Matthew, do we know how
01:14your guys identified this person as being suspicious? Was he on our radar or just
01:18how he appeared? No, my understanding is they observed a print, we would call it,
01:23visual print of a firearm. These are trained surveillance detection personnel
01:28out there looking every day to look for just that. Not far from the White House
01:33complex, and they observed a visual print of a firearm. Did he attack the motorcade in
01:37any way? Did he approach it with any menace? No, not to my knowledge. Was there any other reason to
01:42believe he was suspicious beyond just having a firearm? That's enough for me.
01:47Yeah. And then do we know if the child who was struck was definitely struck by the shooter or
01:52by accident, perhaps by the officer? I can't say, and we'll let the doctors figure that out,
01:57but everything I've seen makes leads me to believe and the investigators believe he was struck by the
02:02suspect. So Mr. Quinn, this man was spotted near the White House, but not on the property. Correct.
02:08Not on the property. We're not far. We are just real quick. We're not far at all. You have been
02:12here from where this incident took place. Did he tell us exactly where he was spotted, not here?
02:17I can't say exactly, but they had been following him for a brief period of time before
02:22uniformed police engaged. You mentioned he didn't approach the motorcade. Was there any indication
02:28that that was his intent? No, but we will get to the bottom of that.
02:33Can you say anything to the officers? I'm not at liberty right now until we get for sure.
02:40Are there any sort of communication? Again, I can't say right now.
02:42Was the vice president in the motorcade when he passed before in the Simpson County?
02:46Yes. And Matthew, we see a backpack and sneakers there. Are those the suspects or are those the kids?
02:53I'm not sure. The backpack you probably see is our first aid trauma kit that is that
02:57our officers providing life care after shooting the suspect. Do you have an age on the child that
03:04was struck as a male or female? I can just tell you right now that it's a juvenile.
03:09Two more questions, guys. I'm sorry. Say again.
03:13Do you believe this is related potentially to the other recent attempts on Trump's life?
03:16I can't say. I'm not going to guess on that. I can tell you that every time. One, we're patrolling
03:22this
03:23area and every site we do 24-7 hardcore. Whether or not it was directed to the president or not,
03:29I don't know, but we will find out. Weapon recovered?
03:32Yes. And Matthew, can you tell us what it was?
03:34I'm going to hold on that. I'm sorry, real quick. This lady.
03:38Do you have an age on the man who was shot at the Secret Service officer by the Secret Service?
03:44I don't know specifically, so I'm not told. An adult male.
03:47And Matthew, can you just confirm it was not a uniformed Secret Service officer,
03:51but a plainclothes and was it a male officer or agent, male agent that fired the shot?
03:59No, I can confirm with you it was uniformed Secret Service police officers that engaged the suspect.
04:05But it was a plainclothes who made the first visual?
04:08Yes, sir.
