02:52else i can't even win a coin toss let alone a 62 t-bird oh yeah a little bit of
02:58this a little bit of
02:58that a lot of stuff lots of junk wow this didn't happen overnight yeah exactly holy crap man you got
03:06some stuff in here i told him i hung every bit of this by myself now i can't get it
03:10down did you really
03:12if you don't collect there's no way that you're going to understand the mind and why we do what we
03:17do as collectors like this space the amount of effort and time that clois has put into it
03:25it's unbelievable when you think about it and look around the room so all this stuff came from the
03:30state of texas yeah oh yeah texas picking texas picking pick it out where'd she come from that's
03:36lady used to live right over here is the house still there no it's gone but it's worth it when
03:41you can
03:41sit there with your friends have a cup of coffee and just look at all the history that you've collected
03:47because now your story is directly connected to everything in here because you rescued it you
03:54saved it you're telling the story of it and it becomes part of you what about this did this come
03:59out of this did these counters come out of this store i got a story on that right there there's
04:04two
04:04guys come up here and want to buy some stuff yeah both of them wanted that sign i bet and
04:08they got in a
04:09fight over it like a fist fight no they didn't rent a plane but i thought they was they almost
04:14got in a
04:14fist fight and i kind of got them settled down and they both left left a sign then either one
04:19of
04:19them get it do you know anything about the the history of it i'm 82 years old i remember a
04:25lot
04:25of old stores around here but i don't remember that one and wm price is named there is price near
04:30here
04:31yes about about five miles up the road okay there's a man that lived there years ago named jm price
04:36and
04:37i think he owned most of the land around there and of course he passed on a long time ago
04:41but i guess he
04:42had that store that rough sawn piece of long leaf yellow pine look at you can see right here
04:48where it used to say something else though look at right here there's an e so it's a ghost sign
04:55underneath it the ghost lettering behind the lettering is incredible this sign was originally
05:00painted for another place another store a tavern a grocery store but now they've repainted it again
05:06over that old sign it's an amazing look and it's almost impossible to recreate this just a lady up
05:13the road i went up there to help her do something and she said i got an old sign here
05:17that you didn't
05:18she knew my dad had this shop here and she said i want y'all to have it she said
05:22i don't have nowhere
05:23to put it where where was it where was it stored it was just on her front porch really wow
05:28and she
05:29said it's just in the way but she didn't know anything about its history is it still for sale yeah
05:34how much
05:35how much did you tell the guys on it 200 would you take 400 yes sir all right thank you
05:42a lot of
05:43people that knows about this stuff know where it come from and how old it is they they most of
05:47them
05:47done passed on matter of fact there's a picture up there that was taken right down there in an old
05:51store and it's got about seven men in it and all of them gone oh i see it yeah right
05:56here in the
05:57middle mike that's that that's all the guys used to be a little coffee well all these people is dead
06:01but
06:01this one and he come up here one day and he said all these people are dead but me and
06:05he died that
06:05day he died that day really charlie mosley did you know all these guys yeah i knew all of them
06:11they
06:11all half of them kin to me or maybe all of them who's this guy right here this is a
06:15neat photo oh that's
06:16my daddy oh that's your daddy yeah that's what's he doing is he playing domino wow that's a great shot
06:22and then that's my grandma and grandpa oh well this is beautiful what you've done here close tells me
06:27that this is not only his collection but it's a collection for the community once a week he'd
06:33had all his friends come down here and gather with him and celebrate all these pieces that are on
06:37display the things that he collected through the years he's absorbing the history of this town like
06:42a sponge and mike and i we feel like we're part of the club right now we feel like we're
06:46part of the
06:47community is this magnolene petroleum sign here is that double-sided or single-sided it's double-sided
06:54is that something you'd sell or no yeah i said it that's pretty good advice i know that's a cheap
06:59sign you got a ladder that tall oh yeah magnolene was originally from texas they started around 1911
07:05it was one of those small oil companies that was around for a very short time that got absorbed by
07:10standard here we got it let's go let's bring it over this way let's get it in there and then
07:16open it up
07:18here we go all right i got you i got it this is all right not turning off on your
07:22head
07:23does it need to go further down i'll uh pull it down i got the ladder safety first i'm holding
07:29the ladder for it maybe that thing gonna fall break your neck but i put that up there you know
07:33but i had
07:34a little different situation didn't have all that other stuff around the bottom down there but yeah
07:39mike kind of scared me with that climbing up he gonna fall one of these days i guarantee it all
07:44right
07:44here we go all right let's see is it double-sided it's double-sided ain't it yeah
07:53is it yeah is there anything left on it yeah it's all right i mean it's not as good as
07:57the other side
07:57pretty anything gas and oil from this time period is getting harder to find and usually when you see
08:03it it's in this type of condition you only make an offer on it yeah uh you better make a
08:09pretty good
08:09one because i have been i had a pretty good offer on that side all right uh 750 bucks no
08:17what do you
08:18you offered what were you offered no i'm gonna tell you what i was offered but i'll take a thousand
08:22dollar for it that's a fourteen hundred dollar sign you know what i'm saying no i know you know what
08:26i think it's worth huh i think it's worth 1200 bucks 900 bucks 950. 925. all right 925. take his
08:35hand jersey
08:36thanks buddy thank you close is on top of stuff you know he might be slowing down but he's not
08:42slowing
08:42down up here on the prices if you can show somebody that you're knowledgeable about something that you're
08:47passionate about it chances are they might sell you that piece i actually had another one of them just
08:53like it was it better shape no not the same that's a big deal as a collector myself you know
08:59for me to
09:00sell it to somebody that really understands it and gets it that makes a big difference to me and i
09:05know
09:05it does to close what is that right there jersey what this piece here yeah heavy wow that sure is
09:12heavy
09:12i don't know what that thing is oh man it's heavy heavy man it's heavy it's gotta be some kind
09:18of spotty
09:19scope for a tank or something like that or artillery weapon you know what attracted you to it
09:23well i could tell it's military but that's about all and you like military stuff i think it is but
09:27i don't know what it is the brass tag tells me a lot of information 1943 that's world war ii
09:33it says
09:34it's a telescope okay so some kind of range finding or viewing scope or spotting scope i'm thinking tank
09:39or howitzer because both of these pieces of equipment this artillery equipment will use a spotty scope
09:46just like this it's steel you can tell it's steel you can see the silverness in here so if it
09:51was
09:51brass or bronze to be navy you know that's the first thing that that tells me that it's
09:55it's army related is this something you want to sell yeah i said the price is right i mean retailing
10:01this thing's probably 125 150 bucks would you take 75 for it oh you guys come up a little bit
10:08i'd take
10:09100 for it yeah i'll do 100 i like it it's a yep thank you very much conversation piece anyway
10:15yeah
10:16no that's really it's it's nice it's a nice condition hey there's a gun over here there's
10:20a gun see the deer the deer over there yeah the gun behind it that spencer rifle yeah can i
10:26take that
10:27down and look at it yeah it's the metal working is good on it but the wood is then a
10:32war i know
10:33enough to be dangerous on these rifles i saw it up on the wall i can see it's in bad
10:36condition
10:37he was gracious enough to let me pull it off the wall i mean at the beginning of the civil
10:42war that's
10:42when these guns were issued along with the henry rifle but there were a lot more spencer rifles
10:47issued than henry rifles oh hell that thing ever in battle that thing's heavy where'd this come
10:56out of my daddy bought that thing probably 75 years ago i mean here's the deal i know it's in
11:00rough shape but you know it's a rare gun oh yeah very rare we have a guy he's the gun
11:05expert man
11:05i mean in america pretty much richard yeah a guy named richard ellis can we send him pictures of
11:10it just for the heck of it just said like no all right we'll send him here hold that jersey
11:14just right back i know that's right all right there yeah right there look at that man i guarantee
11:19that's what that is think about how innovative the spencer repeater was i mean this was a seven
11:25shot rifle most soldiers had a single shot so it's a single shot you load again single shot you load
11:32again it was revolutionary back then well if that thing i could talk ain't no telling what it would say
11:43wait wait wait that's winchester jersey this is winchester oh yes it is i thought it was a
11:47stanley yeah yeah that's cool yeah i put that dag on to keep the kids throwing it away
11:54yeah it's pretty cool it's got a corrugated bottom it's a jointer plane to make a long board straight
11:59like take that whole board and make it really straight along the whole edge so you could take
12:02two and put them together winchester i mean it's an arms company and they needed to produce more arms for
12:07world war one they were supplying the u.s army with ammunition with guns with rifles now they had
12:14a glut of equipment and materials after the war ended they were going to make a woodworking line
12:20this thing's probably it's old this is probably 20s didn't work by the great depression winchester
12:27wasn't making tools anymore it wasn't profitable enough for their company and that's why this winchester
12:32branded plane is very unique but it's got some real serious and condition problems this is
12:37not good i mean it's super super pitted here it's got some serious issues under sole he knows what's
12:44rare old jersey does the winchester is really collectible and you know they made a lot of
12:48stuff and sold stuff and you can't already find it if it's in perfect condition it's 125
12:53dollar plane maybe a little bit more i'm thinking 40 bucks uh you're going to come up a little bit
12:58of
12:58that because i like it too i don't care what kind of trouble you found hey you liked it i
13:02know you
13:02like it because you're the one who bought it i take 60 for it that's a little sexy yeah i
13:08know you
13:08want and yeah you're reading my mind i'll take it for 60 bucks man you got me hey i give
13:1440 something
13:15i know that's good so you made a little money how long you had it i've had a long time
13:18but yeah i knew
13:19winchester high we're having fun going back and forth with him over all this stuff he's calling the shots
13:25it's his stuff there's a phone boy i'm making money yep i had one time i had a guy i
13:31shook his
13:32hand on a deal and then he backed out of it like an hour later and i go what's going
13:36on with that and
13:36he goes you didn't shake my wife's hand i go i never heard that one before but now i have
13:42and now
13:43i keep it right here so it's negotiating is there's an art to it there's a nuance to it there's
13:48a dance to it look at this it's marble it's got some age to it hey that's what i look
13:54in that goes
13:55with that clock right i know that's what i'm saying i mean that's what i'm saying who made this stuff
13:59do
13:59you know anything about the history of it we've had that talk for years here i'm gonna hook my foot
14:03on here let me see god dang that's got some weight to it look at that
14:15how much you want for these i'll have to ask my wife about that i'll go get her all right
14:21this is this is the kind of stuff she likes yeah she likes that kind of stuff all right let
14:25me see
14:26here when i'm looking at stuff like this i'm automatically thinking about what it would look
14:31like in a home because that's exactly what my customer is going to be doing they're like where
14:35can i put that there's a crack here you got a crack in it just just in one piece right
14:40there it's a
14:41piece for a glamorous hunting lodge it's got the elk it's art deco it's got marble it's the shape
14:46it's the colors you know it's got a little bit of imperfections you know i think i can fix a
14:51lot of
14:51that but man you know you don't see all of this together you might see the clock you might see
14:56the bookends this is pretty cool that's where the way comes from i said y'all need the balls
15:04we don't want to get no trouble on this clock nice to meet you hi jersey hi nice to meet
15:09you
15:09too well my wife loves certain things both of them kind of pretty you know and she really like
15:14that clock well what are you 100 to give 125 bucks well of all the things he's got in the
15:21shop
15:22that's pretty neat uh i think him 135 if that's all right with you all right thank you do it
15:30i
15:30appreciate that's awesome thank you very much thank you it's beautiful it's a deco deer clock set
15:34yeah there you go deco deer yeah did you know what an incredible eye he has as a collector yeah
15:40and yeah and i fuss at him sometimes for what he buys but i guess he knows i guess he's
15:46doing pretty
15:46good huh you don't want me to buy this he's got a good track record the old saying goes the
15:52men are
15:52the head of the house but the women are the neck they steer the head on the direction it needs
15:59to go
15:59peggy's negotiating tactics are very sweet she convinces with kindness something we all should
16:06think about doing cleveland chain it's a looks like a store display from our hardware store
16:11i had rollers on it i don't know what i done with it had a wooden bar in there no
16:15it wasn't wood it
16:16was made out of metal it's a hardware store collectible it's a tool collectible cleveland chain
16:20company was a big company whatever you needed chain for you found it on the display and it does it
16:27in
16:27style if you had a bar in here and it had a roller spool right here and it's a chain
16:31rolled up on
16:32yeah if you could put like chain in here or wire display or something like that we collect a lot
16:37of bicycle chain a motorcycle chain and this is like a perfect place to put it i got a little
16:41little in mind kind of what i want well why don't you hit me up with the price 125 you
16:47know what
16:48i was gonna tell you 150. oh well i'll take a hundred you want to take 150 files i think
16:52that would be fair i told you 125. i know the hard way don't use them no i appreciate that
16:59i'll give you 150 bucks for this thing no problem
17:06so what's one of the things that you're most proud of in here history-wise like that thing right there
17:11wood thing that's a tomato punch you call it for spacing them out yeah put the seeds in there and
17:17then it
17:17grows the plant oh you so you plant it's like a planter mike you put it down put that on
17:21the ground
17:21and step on it yeah you put the seeds in the holes i remember that from my dad being a
17:26farmer
17:26yeah he farmed he tried to farm starved to death you know him they couldn't make no money farming but
17:32he loved it that's what he wanted to do oh they grow everything corn peas and watermelons oh man you're
17:39making me hungry yeah me too i used to haul them water bottles a lot of kids you did yeah
17:44really
17:45big old things yeah well everything's big in texas right yeah we got we got a lot of big stuff
17:49in texas
17:50the things that clois is telling us aren't things that you're going to learn from school
17:54or maybe even from a book these come from experience of being here for so long and living in one
18:01area
18:01mostly all of your life we learn about america's history we learn about world history but we don't
18:07learn about local history in schools the only time you're going to learn about local history is if
18:12you're invited to the coffee club or you stop by because you're like hey there's something in the yard i
18:17want to buy you know you're going to get a tutorial on everything that encompasses this area and what
18:23it means to this older gentleman that has so much knowledge to share what do you want for this
18:29hundred dollars what hundred dollars come out of an old store right up the road close down 1960. 75
18:36bucks i guess so yeah i agree peggy says okay she wants me to get rid of some stuff all
18:41right we're doing
18:42it this area looks like it's kind of junked up maybe some modern tools and stuff but as we walk
18:47around there's stuff here with age there's stuff here with substance hey how about that bicycle right
18:53there yeah what do you got on this thing wait i'm hooked wait pull it up push it okay
18:59you got it dirty yeah you got it yeah the reason i'm interested in this bicycle is because it's a
19:041930s
19:05elgin with aluminum fenders it's got the rear stand it's got the crossbar handlebars on it the seat
19:12tube is curved double top tube that's curved you just look at it and the lines of it man and
19:19then
19:19you think about the time period it was made it's cool it's rough it's so rough but it's got those
19:25aluminum fenders on it imagine what these would look like all straightened up and polished there are
19:30guys that can roll these fenders jersey knows that yeah they got tools to actually roll these
19:37fenders you can dolly them back out nice yeah and it's got torrington 10 pedals on it that's a deluxe
19:42bike yeah it's that line though jersey look at that seat tube man i know i see it got the
19:47curve
19:49200 bucks that's fine no i think 225. really is that what you want i believe so peggy is so
19:59sweet
19:59but sometimes it's the sweetest ones that are the hardest negotiators yeah i think 225 since it's
20:07got the aluminum fenders i'm doing it i appreciate it thank you she's like the mary k lady with an
20:14edge
20:14you know she's gonna sell you something and you're gonna pay her price it's so sweet that they bought
20:20all this stuff together and now they're selling it's a beautiful moment man i mean it's like what we all
20:25dream of somebody that gets us you know as collectors hey can you hear me richard how are you
20:30doing mike i'm doing good so you get those pictures yes i did your your dad found it my
20:35daddy bought it probably 75 years ago what it is mike is a 1860 civil war vintage spencer repeating
20:43carving abraham lincoln was shown the spencer rifle by christian spencer and he fired it right on the white house
20:51wow yeah some of this stuff kind of tells a story did you see where the the butt of the
20:56gun was hit
20:57with a ball the fact that it's got that star the side of the butt stock yeah kind of like
21:02a texas star
21:03you know it's basically a relic but you know that's quite interesting to the historians and collectors
21:09when you talk to richard ellis it's an experience he is the gun authority in america he is a historian
21:17and he's a collector himself so he's very passionate about learning about all of these things it comes
21:24natural to him was subsequently reworked after the civil war for use you know indian wars and so
21:31identified by that little wing nut and lever ahead of the trigger which is called stable that's the
21:38safety okay so so someone put that on after the fact the arsenal did it was a magazine cut off
21:45to
21:46cartridges from loading so you can load a single shot okay richard what would this gun be worth in
21:52in exceptional condition exceptional condition like a round for a mint one four to five thousand for a
22:00mint one a mint one that's unissued in a relic you know it's ten percent of that it's six to
22:06nine hundred
22:07bucks as a relic except if you could find any history on specifically who owned the gun and what battles
22:13it
22:13was in i think more of the post war history you know when you see that inlet in the stock
22:19and such
22:19it just leads to the imagination a lot of people would like that yeah absolutely i could very easily
22:25say it's double that you know to a historian antique shop market all right buddy you're awesome
22:31as always yeah i appreciate it we appreciate your time you're welcome bye so he's saying as a relic in
22:37the
22:37condition it's in six to nine hundred dollars it's worth more than that to me yeah of course
22:43i'm gonna give it to my son yeah of course now you know i need to put some oil on
22:46that sucker there's
22:47a history of the gun but then there's also the history of the gun with his family those are
22:53intertwined to close when you hold something like this it has an energy that really never leaves it and
23:00sometimes if you close your eyes it can take you somewhere else you know just for a moment and i
23:06think
23:07that's what this gun has done for his family it's been such a historic piece maybe one of the most
23:12historic pieces that they've coveted all these years peggy can you believe he was selling anything
23:17well i can't but i'm proud he did i'm proud of him too joe joe already did they told me
23:22some things i
23:23didn't know and i think i might have talked to him a few things yeah i know i don't need
23:27to tell you
23:27how important all this stuff is you've been saving he's got so much local history in there i know it
23:32your truck's not full close and peggy are the preservers of history and that's what makes our
23:37job possible sweet picking buddy all right come back
23:50we're getting close jersey man this road goes on and on yeah there great yeah yeah she said he had
23:5714
23:57acres wow this is great jersey john and i roll off of this two lane busy road and as soon
24:03as we get in
24:04the dirt you know in the trees the collection comes to life look at this place it's packed
24:10my neighbors would freak if i did this my neighbors don't care i know well obviously proceed to the
24:15route
24:22hello hey hello god dang i can spot that truck a mile away you see that truck from satellite
24:28jim martin hi i'm john it's yours nice to meet you man yes sir dude this reminds me of so
24:34many
24:34places that i kind of grew up around in iowa well this is an old farm place i mean it's
24:39been your
24:39family since like 1946. so what generation are you with it be about the third generation no kidding
24:44so who was the last one in your family to live on this property my uncle he uh he was
24:49a world war ii
24:49veteran he lived here until like i think 2013 he was 90 years and six months when he paid really
24:55i think
24:56my uncle he was my mentor he didn't start collecting engines till he was in his mid-60s
25:01i'd bring them back for him to look at and work on and get running and he just he loved
25:06it he didn't
25:06care whether they was here's engine my they were our engines my dad's 94 he was mechanic in korean war
25:12but yes wow both of them mechanics so did those guys work for themselves did they have their own shop
25:16or where they they had their shop martin brothers that's that's right that's cool i grew up picking
25:22places like this guys just like his uncle that were mentors of mine even if it was for a short
25:28time
25:28i mean basically they lived in their own little world in the center of their collection really
25:34frozen in time and those are people and places that i'll never forget and the greatest gift that
25:41any of us have ever been given is more time we're all living longer and what are collectors doing
25:48we're coveting more we're collecting more we're searching for more and we're learning more and
25:53we're passing that on to younger people what's that dodge there what year is that around a 60 it's got
25:59a straight axle 318 four-speed and positrac wicked cool and it's like new super solid inside of it it's
26:06pretty pretty cool oh yeah got 17 817 miles owner this is a 1960 dodge town wagon looks like original
26:19paint
26:20i like your uh battery clamps they're vice grips this is on the same food chain of like a 35
26:26chevy suburban
26:27or a willys or a scout i mean these are the stepping stones to what we all drive today these
26:34suvs
26:34you know utilitarian four-wheel drive beefy bigger than we're ever going to use you know running
26:40around town but it's something that you feel safe in what are you thinking on this would you sell this
26:45thing i would consider uh i do like it the condition of the truck was really great i mean you
26:52could see
26:52that it was well taken care of it's been stored well it's it's got a great set of bones to
26:57it i mean
26:58like just throw a number at me 8 500 8 500. yes sir low mileage clean truck it's unusual jim
27:08has left
27:08the door open a little bit to me there's a lot of stuff here i mean there's acres this is
27:12really the
27:12first thing that i'm looking at so i want to slow my roll here a little bit just look around
27:17and see
27:17what else he has you got the windmill to this or you just got the tail fin oh the f
27:25ronstad that was
27:26part of the linda ronstadt families it came out of linda ronstadt yeah yeah this is from her
27:31property she collects stuff that was from no that was when they were using it that was you know we're
27:36talking 1905 1910. linda ronstadt's from tucson yeah she's from that area out there absolutely maybe
27:43she wants it back there you go this obviously started out life as a tail fin of a windmill but
27:50its application in the future is probably going to be something decorative you know like hanging this
27:54on the hallway wall directional looking down i've done that with a wooden tail fin before
28:00it's very cool the advertising is interesting the fact that it could be linda ronstadt's family
28:06takes it to the next level that means a lot to me mike okay it is the ronstadt family what
28:11are you
28:11thinking i'm thinking 300. samson that's the that's the windmill brand that i think it is 250.
28:21you holding tight i am i really like it i mean all right i like it too it's really hard
28:28for me and
28:29the scrappers around here they don't like me when they see me at auction they're like they just cringe
28:33they come to me and they're like jim are you yeah i mean that model t that engine that you're
28:39not
28:39taken to the scrap yard i'm going to save it i can and i will that was a display in
28:44town here in the
28:4540s and 50s it uh it's a little bitty town with buildings wow the name of it was 500 mechanical
28:52and electrical robots oh wow this is cool jersey whoa whoa
29:02what is this it was built in the 30s or 40s oh it's got a little machine shop in it
29:06weed motors in it
29:07this is a circle in the floor this he got he went around in a circle oh yeah sure that
29:12was the action
29:13there look at the boss he's like super heavy yeah yeah yeah this is typical of mike wolf and i
29:18respect
29:18him for this a lot because he bird dogs stuff really good i mean i would have passed this thing
29:23by i thought it was some boat that was covered with an old tarp and i'm realizing that this thing
29:29is
29:29an automaton it's a giant mechanical toy it's a display piece but everything freaking moves look at
29:38the detail and what these guys are doing right here in this cabinet shop yeah it's amazing i mean even
29:43the tools are hanging on the walls yeah yeah built by captain elton denim value fifty thousand dollars
29:49tell your friends about it so are we are we are we good mike i mean captain valued it this
29:55whole city
29:55is a living breathing thing that's all done with a line shaft underneath you know it's powered by
30:01electricity there's all these wires and springs and belts and wooden pulleys and it's just spinning
30:07everything up top and so you're seeing people working in the barber shop in the machine shop
30:12and walking down the street and all this stuff and he did an incredible job it's the hugest
30:17piece of folk art that i've ever seen i mean this is a roadside attraction that can travel anywhere
30:23some of them i mean john d i don't think any of their heads are celluloid do you i think
30:28they are
30:28celluloid oh you think they're all celluloid i think they're all celluloid well oh and they just
30:32they're petrified celluloid yes there were so many things that he thought of you know the rocket ship the
30:38signs the advertising the people it's really incredible the problem with it is is the condition
30:44overall i mean a lot of it you want to touch it you know it's just going to fall apart
30:49you know
30:49it really needs someone that's clever and talented to go through it and make it work again i just want
30:54to get up and see the other side of it yeah you know i'll get it let me get this
31:00is not like a city
31:02of robots anymore it's a city of squirrels rat squirrels it's a squirrel city now rat crap coon
31:08crap squirrel crap i mean i don't care i'm gonna get in this thing there's this one says magnetic
31:14dancers mechanical orchestra the pipe organ over here might be some kind of church so they had some
31:20music here the left side is actually more interesting than the right because it's got
31:24like this courtyard and these porches and people sitting on the porches and it's like a kaleidoscope
31:31of badassery you know the more you stare at it and move it the more entranced you are i'm just
31:36getting
31:36hypnotized by this thing there's a lot of people over here with no heads oh say it ain't so the
31:43amount
31:43of hours that will have to be put into this thing to make it viable it's staggering it would be
31:49thousands of hours have you reached out to anybody about possibly restoring it in the last five years
31:56no no i haven't i mean do you know anybody that's capable of doing this i really don't or would
32:00have
32:01the energy to do it yeah i don't know any idea but not now no so i'm wondering if you
32:04even had like a
32:05historical society or something that has a budget to do cool things because obviously the beauty of
32:10this is that it's history but it's going to connect with kids i'm going to look in at what you're
32:15telling me try to find somebody locally that'll work on restoring it and if not i'll get with you
32:21i'll let you know jim is smart he wants to do his research on it he wants to try to
32:25find somebody
32:25locally to do it i mean he knows the importance of it you know staying in this area yeah if
32:30you get to
32:31the point where you run into a dead end yes then we're players on wanting like i'm sure jersey you
32:36probably want this machine shop yeah i do yeah jersey this one building is your whole life yeah
32:40really machine work downstairs and woodwork upstairs yes exactly what is going on in my shop right now
32:46jersey john's it man he's into mechanical stuff he's he's a little bit of an artist himself you
32:51know i mean you know i'm looking at him going and he's going the guy's had one of my motorcycles
32:56for
32:57like eight years he's been working on you know so he he does give of his time but you know
33:02it's just
33:02pieces and parts here and there you know i mean the guy's a genius thank you thanks for showing
33:07us to be honest with you it's the craziest thing i've seen in a dude it's cool and anything like
33:12this at jersey there's tons of hit and miss engines in here man oh yeah lots of hit and miss
33:17obviously i like hit miss engines i got two or three hundred of them i just enjoy watching them
33:22run and i enjoy working on them and i enjoy the hunt finding them i just love it that's more
33:27of my
33:27style right here what's this waterloo boy that's about as small as it gets in the waterloo boy yeah no
33:32kidding so what's cool about these smaller ones i mean they were like you know the jack of all trades
33:36on a
33:36farm these engines were labor saving devices i mean we're coming from an agricultural community
33:42where there needs to be labor to process food crops they have got to be harvested they have to be
33:49sown they have to be reaped these machines help do all those things you bought the engine and it did
33:56the work of many but the cart's nice too it is it's really nice it's original cart and everything
34:01and you see the generator on it that's pretty cool oh yeah it's got a sparker on it yes
34:06oh that's a sweetheart if you close your eyes and listen to jersey talk about a hit miss engine
34:12you would think that he was talking about a lady he's very descriptive he's very passionate and he's
34:19very driven when it comes to anything mechanical so is this something you want to sell i would
34:26consider selling that engine not missing any parts i mean it was it wouldn't be cheap john well how much
34:31we're talking about probably twenty two hundred dollars yeah no that's too much for me bottom
34:37line is that you know jim i mean he likes this motor and he's at a retail number for the
34:42same we're going
34:43to find something today man i like smaller stuff there's there's smaller regions here i believe you'll
34:48find something all right no problem my goal is to build a shop to to keep my better engines and
34:55just
34:55sell off what i don't need i mean i've got a lot of stuff i mean obviously i can get
34:59rid of a lot of it
34:59so i'm not going to lose any sleep over it you have your own personal engine show absolutely i'm
35:04pretty jealous about that because you've got the space to do it jim is like a lot of collectors
35:08i can't tell you how many times we've heard from people saying you know hey man i want to sell
35:13some
35:13stuff because i want to build one space and kind of focus on things that is all of our dream
35:18you know
35:18instead of coming at it from like a shotgun standpoint you know everything's now in the crosshairs
35:23because at some point in time when you have this much stuff and you start thinking about the value
35:29of it you want to keep it safe you want to keep it out of the elements and that's where
35:33jim's at in
35:33his life i've been there too man we're all going to be there it's like we're all in the autumn
35:38of it
35:38you know and we're just rolling through it and still having fun open sound horn you remember where
35:45that came out or was that here when your uncle was here it might have been my uncle's sign i
35:48didn't
35:48know it was in there anything that's connected to petroleum it's a service stations to body shops
35:53all of this stuff is hot this would have been like and they would have pulled the door up to
35:58let you
35:58in you know especially in the winter time they weren't just keeping the door open so the sound
36:02the horn sign is cool because it's hand painted it's older i'm thinking like 75 it's one-sided and
36:08it's peeling pretty bad but obviously it's for some sort of service absolutely service garage 85 85 80.
36:17deal all right man good all right i like the way you work
36:25he's just got a steam engine in here mike there he is where here let me show you there's a
36:30lot of
36:30things that are laying around this property that are collectible now but back in the day when they
36:35were here originally they were just utilitarian that's how long these people have been on this
36:39property this is a generational property it is a rare opportunity for us to even be
36:45in a situation like this whoa whoa whoa there's a steam engine there's a steam engine there
36:50which one right here that's a little creeders popcorn you grab one and i'll grab this one
36:55can you grab that i can this little model hit miss engine is exactly like all the other hit miss
37:02engines that are on this property it's an internal combustion motor but it's made in miniature that one
37:08runs we had it running not long ago you did yes it will run so is that like a kit
37:12somebody built
37:13i want to say it is a lot of the gas engine magazines you could yeah gas engine magazine
37:18you could buy a little kit but like from what time period well well here's the thing mike you see
37:21these
37:22screws here yeah these are allen head screws okay so that came out like i would probably 50s this is
37:27cool but what do you think this is it's a steam gauge tester you put a gauge on it and
37:32you test it
37:33with it through a tractor so you put a gauge up here yes and then you would like pressurize it
37:37yeah but it
37:38it tested steam gauges i do know that it's very interesting because the way it's constructed
37:43it's tests gauges for steam equipment so you would know that your gauge was accurate that it said the
37:49right pressure because if it didn't your steam engine could blow up oh yeah now the creeders man
37:55this thing is cool that is real yeah i mean i don't see very many of them i mean i
38:00love the way they did
38:00the connecting rod is all tapered it's got the bronze fittings on here it's got the label on here
38:05creeders company number of it right there yeah that's a good number too the seven seven one one
38:10i mean yeah that's one of them good gambling numbers it's a small piece of steam equipment
38:16that would be on top of a popcorn machine it brings you back to like an old carnival or you're
38:22on the
38:22boardwalk in atlantic city and you could smell the popcorn and you could smell the roasted peanuts
38:28i mean the creeders is the best part oh yeah for sure that engine is worth around thirteen hundred
38:32dollars yeah i agree with you okay that's a good retail number on that what's that one worth this
38:37thing i'm thinking 350. i think you're close you're kind of thinking like all three pieces retail
38:451900 maybe two grand yes all right tell you what how about 1500 bucks for all three of them
38:551550. done oh god you're killing me thank you man man the struggle was real mike yeah the struggle was
39:05real come here look at this little scooter i got here i'm not even sure what it is you probably
39:09know
39:09a little bit more about it yeah it's a moto scoot okay you know here's the front fender to it
39:13oh really
39:14do you have a fork to it actually if i do it's going to be this stuff came together it
39:19might be
39:20in i don't know oh this whole pile came together yes the last time i saw one of these moto
39:24scoots
39:25frankie and i were picking a guy named joe rainbolt and he bought one of these scooters from him
39:30a moto scoot scooter more between world war one world war two out of chicago wow that's cool what's
39:37a tank look like mike fresh is the day it was made it's pretty clean the only one i've ever
39:42seen scooter
39:43guys get into one type of scooter then they get into another and another and another because you
39:49know like like the way you look at the history of the hit and miss engine or i look at
39:53the history
39:53of the motorcycle well the scooter guy is doing the same thing he's looking at the history of the
39:58scooter and what's great about the moto scoot is that it's just so airflow it's very art deco i mean
40:03even look at the front there oh i know that's all streamlined yeah from 1937 to 1947 the american
40:11moto scoot was made in chicago illinois there was obviously a lot of manufacturing in chicago excelsior
40:18was there super x was there ignea schwinn was there i mean chicago was a two-wheeled town what
40:24people love about the american moto scoot though is how rare they are i mean every once in a while
40:29you'll
40:29find a frame or a set of wheels or maybe a body part here what's this it was delivered what's
40:35this
40:35that's it ain't it what's this that looks like it's it this would have to sit in here yeah oh
40:42yeah
40:42look at this this thing is almost intact but what's there the bones of what's there is the beauty of
40:50the
40:50scoot itself the frame the way it swoops down that really interesting front fork that skirted fender like
40:57a little indian fender and then that art deco you know airflow piece that just sit on top of it
41:04the
41:04body that goes back i like this here this cooling these cooling yeah here that's pretty cool yeah yeah
41:10yeah yeah yeah for sure it's just so cool there's a lot of guys out there that collect scooters but
41:15there's another breed of collector that all they collect are american-made scooters all right you ready
41:27three hundred
41:33that was fast you got a deal thanks man hey but here's you you know more about i do i
41:39love this
41:40kind of stuff i know i see that you're passionate about it but but i want to buy it at
41:44a price where
41:45i can sell it to a guy for a reasonable price too because he's going to be the one that's
41:50going to
41:50restore it and you know that's that's when the money comes oh you know what i mean i have no
41:54doubt that the stuff i let go of today there's going to be another collector that's going to want
41:58it that's going to appreciate it i've got a lot of stuff so you know i i'm okay with letting
42:02some of
42:02it go right now john find any more moto scoop parts call me i'll know how to get home all
42:07right you
42:07guys i think this is gonna be a friendship for life this could be good the next time i'm in
42:11this
42:12part of the country i'm going to give jim a call and we're going to go to the hit miss
42:14engine meet
42:15and that that's the best part about picking i mean you could meet people we both have the same
42:20interests and that's really cool moto scootin it yes sir see y'all later boot scoot motor scoot
