00:36that's the interesting thing I have absolutely no idea because I've never
00:40actually seen the pub other than the real estate ad online yeah um that's stupid
00:47it's his fault it is your fault hmm well see well Dean and I have worked together
00:54on three films together a couple of musicals or plays yes and about three or
01:00so TV shows yeah so to say we're mates would be fair statement well I think we're
01:06mates I'm pretty sure we are we were emailing each other about a project we
01:10were working on and at the bottom of the email Dean wrote oh by the way have you
01:15ever thought about buying a pub I hit send and as I hit send the phone rang and it's
01:21you go and pub well what I said was Dean Murphy what the hell are you talking
01:26about buying a pub probably worth noting that Dean's never had a drink of
01:30alcohol in your life have you no and you said I'll never forget it well it's not
01:36just any pub it's the Datorang Hotel so where's Datorang you ask well it's
01:41nestled in a valley roughly halfway between Melbourne and Canberra surrounded by
01:45stunning mountains and lush farmland why the Datorang Hotel I'll leave that to
01:52Dean to explain hmm I grew up 15 minutes from here and had come to this pub since
01:58I was a kid and had seen how important it is to the community and we heard that
02:01it had been on the market for about a year and that Dave the owner had been
02:06basically knocking back offers because they're either coming from overseas
02:09companies or the big companies in Australia that he didn't feel had a
02:13connection to the community that's what I said to Shane you know got a pub I
02:18think we might have to buy it's been about 10 minutes explaining why it's
02:22important and you said all right let's do it
02:26I'm about to find out if I've made a good decision what could possibly go wrong
02:36here she is and ain't she a beauty
02:41I'm meeting the guy who runs and owns the pub Dave McKnight he's a ripper bloke
02:46but I've only actually spoken to him on the phone so I have no idea what he looks
02:50like I'm pretty sure that's not him there
02:55hopefully I can just ask some of the patrons to point him out
02:58it's nearly lunchtime so there should be a good crowd in here by now
