00:00authored a piece today talking about Pakistani citizens in the Emirates. Tell us about it.
00:08Yeah, so, you know, we read about the loan repayment, but the UAE, perhaps as a punitive
00:17measure, perhaps to hurt Pakistan in some way, has been deporting Pakistani Shia residents,
00:26you know, including those who called the UAE home for the last over two decades, and a lot of
00:34migrant workers, and, you know, they've been arbitrarily, like, detaining them, deporting
00:40them, you know, people spoke to us about the mistreatment in the detention centers and how
00:46they were just put in flights with their ID cards canceled and bank accounts frozen, and, you know,
00:54they've just been sent back, and perhaps these are in thousands, like, you know, a Shia leader told
00:59us that maybe 15,000 people have been deported. 15,000 people, and so what does that tell you?
01:09Is it squarely about the Iran war? What's it about? Yeah, I think it's a part of that, like,
01:19the rift with the, with the Saudi, you know, Pakistan's closer, you know, growing ties with
01:25Saudi, and also, like, a muted response to the Iran war, you know, so it's, it's a part of that
01:35trend.
01:36Part of that trend, and it brings us to the central question, which is how Pakistan found itself.
