00:00:09True it is, without falsehoods certain and most true, that that which is above is like
00:00:16to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above, to accomplish
00:00:24the miracles of one thing. And as all things were by the contemplation of one, so all things
00:00:35arose from this one thing by a single act of adaption. The father thereof is the sun, the
00:00:43mother the moon, the wind carried it in its womb, the earth is the nurse thereof. It is
00:00:51the father of all works of wonder throughout the whole world. The power thereof is perfect.
00:00:59If it be cast to earth, it will separate the element of earth from that of fire, the subtle
00:01:05from the gross. With great sagacity it doth descend to earth, and uniteth in itself the force from
00:01:13things superior and things inferior. Thus thou wilt possess the glory of the brightness of
00:01:21the whole world, and all obscurity will fly far from thee. This thing is the strong fortitude
00:01:28of all strength, for it overcometh every subtle thing, and doth penetrate every solid substance.
00:01:37Thus was this world created. Hence there will be marvelous adaptions achieved, of which the
00:01:45manner is this. And for this reason I am called Hermes Trismegistus, because I hold three parts
00:01:53of the wisdom of the whole world, and that which I had to say about the operation of Saul is
00:02:00completed.
00:02:04The End
00:02:05The End
00:02:06The End
00:02:34Hidden deep in a national forest, located in the
00:02:37Southern California, is the secluded headquarters of the Church of the Hermetic Sciences.
00:02:43We named our rustic estate Rivendell, after the woodland home of the elves, described in J.R.R. Tolkien's
00:02:51fantasy classic, Lord of the Rings. And, as you can see, R. Rivendell certainly evokes that image.
00:02:58What better place could we have found to research, teach and practice the ancient rites of magic?
00:03:06Hermetic magic is our own English and European cultural tradition of shamanism and seership.
00:03:12It is the magic of King Solomon, of Merlin, of Nostradamus and Count Coleostro. It has been called sorcery, necromancy
00:03:23and black magic by those who do not understand it. And yet, it is also known as the art of
00:03:30kings and the secret science of the philosophers.
00:03:34Here at Rivendell, we have everything necessary to pursue the study and the practical application of this ultimate human adventure.
00:03:43We have an outdoor henge for seasonal ceremonies, an indoor temple for magical rites, an astronomical observatory to view the
00:03:53heavens, and a hermitage for retreats, lectures and fellowship.
00:03:58Come inside with me now, and together we will lift the veil obscuring this ancient art of wizardry.
00:04:06Welcome to the Church of the Hermetic Sciences and the Order of the Temple of Astarte.
00:04:12In the outer world, I am known as Polk Runyon.
00:04:15But here, in the inner world of the Rivendell Hermitage, I am the Archimage Frater Thabion, your host and guide
00:04:26on a tour of the wonderful world of Hermetic magic.
00:04:31Hermetic magic is an art of philosophy and a very ancient and powerful religion.
00:04:37Yes, a religion, but with an essential difference from other religions.
00:04:43Where they depend upon faith for their salvation, we seek the wisdom and power of the Gnosis.
00:04:52Know yourself, for in your temple you are one with the gods.
00:04:57In our two previous videos, The Magic of Solomon and The Dark Mirror of Magic, we emphasized the techniques of
00:05:08evocation and invocation.
00:05:10That's summoning spirits to visible appearance and calling down angels to converse with them.
00:05:18Now, in some ways, this is putting the cart before the horse because there is a lot more to the
00:05:24philosophy and practice of magic than these two methods.
00:05:29In this production, we are going to give you a broader perspective.
00:05:33We will cover Hermetic Magical Yoga, Pathworkings, Seasonal Ceremonies, the Mystical Eucharist, and the Enochian Aether System.
00:05:55Let us begin by establishing the magical universe within ourselves through the process of Hermetic Magical Yoga.
00:06:08When I first began my study of magic back in 1968, I was impressed with the Tibetan system of Tantric
00:06:16Yoga, as described in the series of books edited by W. Evans Wentz.
00:06:22I soon realized that the modern European magus, Franz Barden, and the British magician, Aleister Crowley, had both incorporated Eastern
00:06:34Yoga techniques into Western magic, but they had both stopped short of adapting the most important Eastern Yoga system to
00:06:43Western practice.
00:06:44That of the straight line spinal chakra system.
00:06:49Neither Barden nor Crowley could overcome the differences between this Indian Tantric configuration and the three-pillared Western tree of
00:06:59life.
00:06:59Even though the ancient Caduceus of Hermes was a major clue, along with the Renaissance Hermetic mystic Johann Gitchell's drawing
00:07:09of a Western Hermetic chakra arrangement back in 1696.
00:07:13And the lightning flash or flaming sword on the tree of life itself is also an obvious clue.
00:07:22But we still should not fault Barden and Crowley over much for failing to realize and develop this vital secret.
00:07:29Because in the latter half of the 20th century, after Barden and Crowley had both died, Tibetan exiles began to
00:07:39teach selected Western students the inner secrets of their magic.
00:07:44Now those of us who were fortunate enough to sit at the feet of Tibetan gurus and learn their tantras
00:07:51firsthand,
00:07:52soon discovered that there were different chakra systems for each deity we invoked.
00:07:58The previous notion that all Eastern chakra arrangements were the same and had been that way for thousands of years
00:08:07was just simply not true.
00:08:09Along with this revelation, it is equally important to note that magical color is what we actively impose upon the
00:08:19inner planes,
00:08:20not what we passively observe when we scry.
00:08:24Therefore, our chakras can conform to our own Kabbalistic color scales.
00:08:31In our case, my year of study and practice with the Sakya order of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism,
00:08:38under the tutelage of the late Luding Ken Rinpoche, confirmed for me the validity of this Western Kabbalistic chakra system
00:08:49we had first developed in 1975 and published back in 1977.
00:08:56We have since gone on to perfect a master ritual in which all our ancient pantheon of Phoenician gods indwell
00:09:06in the Kabbalistic spheres within the body of the magician.
00:09:11Within the mystic rose and fire opal jewel of Haud, we enter the alchemical laboratory of Kothar, the ancient Phoenician
00:09:25predecessor of Tubal Cain.
00:09:29Within the mystic rose, an emerald jewel of Netzach, we come into the presence of the goddess Astarte, adorned with
00:09:40all the jewels of the Hermetic cosmos.
00:09:43I cannot overemphasize the importance of this development.
00:09:48This Kabbalistic chakra arrangement is certainly a significant advance in Western magic.
00:09:54It goes far beyond the Golden Dawn's middle pillar exercise, providing inner wellsprings of power for every magical operation,
00:10:04for the creation of the body of light, and for the ultimate mystical experience of merger with the Godhead.
00:10:14At present, we are the only esoteric group in the Western world employing and teaching this system.
00:10:23Ahiyya Yamashamata
00:10:52There are other ways of entering this hidden magical universe.
00:10:58Following the Hermetic principle of as above, so below, as within, so without,
00:11:05we have again combined the best of Western and Eastern methods in our pathworking system.
00:11:12Some people might call this technique astral travel.
00:11:16We prefer the term inner plane projection.
00:11:20In 1971, our late Frater Apollineus, known in the outer world as John Brooks,
00:11:26a former student of Sikhsat Guru Karpal Singh, conducted us on a hypnotic journey into a magical realm of surpassing
00:11:36wonders and deep wisdom.
00:11:38The key element of this pathworking system is its symbolic attention points,
00:11:45guideposts along the way from which the traveler receives special knowledge for himself or herself alone.
00:11:53This transforms what might otherwise be only a deep trance reverie into a true initiation.
00:12:02We cabalized Karpal Singh's eastern cosmos,
00:12:08and we added the Golden Dawn's own eastern import, the elemental Tatwa symbols,
00:12:15as doorways in the center of our great dark mirror.
00:12:21Come with us now, as we venture along the thirty-second path on our journey to the sphere of Yesod,
00:12:29the storehouse of memories, and the entrance to the astral plane.
00:12:35The mirror is suspended in space and time.
00:12:39From within our temple it opens out upon the vast darkness of the universe.
00:12:45It is a portal between dimensions, the gateway to realms beyond.
00:12:53Temple path workings are usually done inside the magic circle,
00:12:57with the participants lying in a ground star configuration on their backs,
00:13:03heads together, looking up into a suspended, circular, convex, dark mirror.
00:13:10The appropriate Tatwa symbol, in this case Parviti, representing the earth element,
00:13:17is placed in the center of the great mirror.
00:13:19The mirror, suspended waist high, also serves as an altar top,
00:13:24on which will be placed the symbols relating to the path and the sphere of the working.
00:13:30After a hypnotic induction, which renders the physical body inert,
00:13:36the living spirit body is released from the dormant physical form
00:13:41and flies up through the Tatwa, which serves as an astral doorway,
00:13:47leading to the inner realms of the Olam Yetzirah.
00:14:06On the highest point of the ridgeline, silhouetted against the glow of the Milky Way,
00:14:12we see the great T-shaped stone dolmen.
00:14:17It stands stark black against the heavenly river of souls.
00:14:22We climb the trail along the ridge crest.
00:14:26It becomes steeper and more precarious as we make our way upward.
00:14:31Finally, we reach the top, and we stand at the base of the dolmen.
00:14:36A cool sea breeze touches our faces.
00:14:40We look down to a desolate shore and out over a vast nighted seascape.
00:14:47This is the Gulf of Nepesh, that ever-dark sea of forgotten dreams and ancient remembrance.
00:14:55The moon is hiding behind a veil of cloud, shrouding the sea of mystery and darkness.
00:15:01We examine the ancient stone dolmen.
00:15:04It is twelve feet high and roughly chiseled from coarse black stone.
00:15:09The six-foot-long cross member on the top forms the T.
00:15:13There are forged bronze rings set near the ends of the cross.
00:15:19On the upright member, there are hand and toe holds and a ledge to stand on.
00:15:24We realize that this dolmen must have been used by shamans of old in a vision quest rite of self
00:15:32-crucifixion,
00:15:33and that we are now here for that purpose ourselves.
00:15:38Each of us, in turn, will climb up upon this great Tau cross.
00:15:44Now it's your turn, and you climb up to stand on the ledge.
00:15:49Carefully, you move around to face outward.
00:15:54You stretch out your arms in the sign of Osiris, and you grasp the bronze rings.
00:16:01The moon emerges from behind the clouds and bathes the vast seascape beyond in a pale silver light.
00:16:10You have a panoramic view of the shoreline and the gulf.
00:16:15A thousand yards out beyond the surf, a great statue rises out of the dark waters.
00:16:23This is the Colossus of Yasod.
00:16:27Far out on the dark horizon to your left, an orange light flashes from the distant sphere of Haud.
00:16:35And, far off to the right, a green spark glimmers from the sphere of Nitzhak.
00:16:43These distant beacons focus their rays on the crystal atop the Colossus.
00:16:50The crystal shimmers with an electric aura, and suddenly a deep blue ray is projected directly towards you.
00:17:00It engulfs you in a violet, blue field of magnetic energy.
00:17:05Your Yasod chakra is awakened.
00:17:08A rose of nine yellow petals has opened to reveal a glittering violet amethyst.
00:17:18You have thus received the second of the jewels with which you will build your body of light.
00:17:25Remember it always and treasure it well.
00:17:27After we have received our mystical empowerment, we will journey out over the dark gulf to climb the spiral ramp
00:17:37circling the Colossus.
00:17:39We will enter the crystal globe of memory and relive one of our past lives.
00:17:45Following this experience, we will return along our path to the astral doorway that leads us back through the dark
00:17:53mirror and into the temple,
00:17:55where we will awaken from our hypnotic trance, recalling our adventure and the knowledge we have gained.
00:18:14For the magician, his religion is the source of his power.
00:18:18He calls upon God or the gods to aid him in his quest for wisdom, inner strength and enlightenment.
00:18:29But what is the best religion for a magician?
00:18:33Most of us have been raised in one or another of the biblically based faiths, none of which are supportive
00:18:39of the practice of magic.
00:18:41And yet, old King Solomon was deemed to have been the greatest magician of the ages.
00:18:50What was his religion?
00:18:52Judaism?
00:18:54Well, officially perhaps.
00:18:56But I believe that King Solomon's secret religion was the same as Melchizedek's a thousand years earlier.
00:19:08The ancient religion behind the Bible.
00:19:11The oldest religion.
00:19:13The religion of ancient Canaan and Phoenicia.
00:19:17The religion of King Solomon's friend, King Hiram of Tyre, who helped him to build the great temple in Jerusalem.
00:19:26The temple to God.
00:19:28But how did they spell God's name?
00:19:32With such a vision shining out of the mists of time, there came a compulsion to resurrect this ancient magical
00:19:44religion.
00:19:47Before the 1930s discovery of an ancient Canaanite royal library unearthed at Ra Shem Ra, dating back to the time
00:19:56of Melchizedek,
00:19:57we had no clear idea of the original magical religion that lay behind our Bible.
00:20:04The Bible relates that the legendary Canaanite priest king, Melchizedek, had given the holy sacraments and priestly dispensation to Father
00:20:13Abraham.
00:20:14And in the New Testament, Jesus is said to have been a priest after the order of Melchizedek.
00:20:20Beyond that, we had only the biased accounts of later Hebrew zealots in the Old Testament,
00:20:27and equally critical Christian reports from classical times concerning the oldest religion.
00:20:33Before the translations of the recently discovered Ra Shem Ra tablets became available in the 1950s,
00:20:41our limited knowledge of ancient Phoenician mysteries was summed up in such works as James George Fraser's The Golden Bough
00:20:50and Jesse Weston's From Ritual to Romance.
00:20:54Back in 1969, through the magical medium of the dark mirror, I had contacted the ancient Phoenician goddess Astarte and
00:21:05her consort Prince Baal.
00:21:06I knew that Astarte was the muse of old King Solomon and the inspiration behind his reputation as the greatest
00:21:15magician of the ages.
00:21:16She had inspired him to build a temple for her, and she had inspired us to recreate her religion.
00:21:24Ours was not the first recreation of an ancient pagan seasonal ritual cycle.
00:21:29We were fortunate to have the example of Frederick Adams and Lady Svetlana's Feriferia to guide us.
00:21:36Their poetic and mystical modern recension of the ancient Greek Eleusinian mystery festivals marked the beginning of the neo-pagan
00:21:46movement in modern America.
00:21:47We began our yearly seasonal rites performed on the solstices and the equinoxes back in 1974.
00:21:55We have performed them four times yearly ever since.
00:21:59Let us return now to 1974 at Mont Silvat Hermitage in Pasadena, California, when we enacted our first autumn equinox
00:22:11pageant, the Festival of Seven Gates,
00:22:13in which the goddess Astarte descends through seven celestial portals to vanquish Mote, the lord of darkness and death, and
00:22:23resurrect the dead Prince Baal.
00:22:24The actual ceremony was performed at night. What you are watching was a reenactment for the camera filmed in daylight.
00:22:32And though it lacks the drama and mystery of a torchlight performance, we are fortunate to have captured the late
00:22:40pagan elder Joseph Wilson, our Frederick de Juti,
00:22:43and our honored guests Frederick Adams and Lady Svetlana of Feriferia.
00:22:49There is more to the symbolism of this ancient seasonal cycle than mere modernization of a Bronze Age agricultural mythology.
00:22:59We are actually dramatizing the primal operations of Hermetic alchemy.
00:23:04In autumn, the goddess bears the life-giving grail down from the holy mountain through the seven gates of the
00:23:10underworld to resurrect the torment fertility god Baal.
00:23:14This is the origin of the legend of Salome's Dance of the Seven Veils.
00:23:20Baal's thirst is quenched and he is revived in the western quadrant of water under the sign of Mercury, representing
00:23:28the alchemical process of solution.
00:23:30In winter, the world is threatened by storms and floods brought on by the dragon of chaos.
00:23:38Alone, Prince Baal cannot defeat the dragon.
00:23:41He shares his victory with the moon goddess Tinit at winter solstice in the northern quadrant of earth under the
00:23:48sign of salt, representing the alchemical process of separation.
00:23:53In spring, Baal and Astarte are united in the joyous rite of Hyros Gamos, or sacred marriage at the equinox,
00:24:02which culminates in our communion of the elements ceremony in the eastern quadrant of air under the sign of spirit,
00:24:09representing the alchemical process of conjunction.
00:24:13In summer, Prince Baal, the green man, is killed by the dark lord when the sun reaches its height at
00:24:20summer solstice.
00:24:22Then the crops wither and die on the southern quadrant of fire under the sign of sulfur, representing the alchemical
00:24:30process of calcination.
00:24:32And now, it is the eve of the summer solstice, and you have been invited to Rivendell to participate in
00:24:40a magical adventure,
00:24:42the ancient rite of Adonia, the death of the year king.
00:24:50Welcome, friends.
00:24:53Follow me across the bridge and into the world of magic.
00:25:11Come and dance the circle round, the sun is high again.
00:25:15Hail the green man's yearly gift, ripening the grain.

00:27:25The drama depicts the death of the year king
00:27:28At the hand of the dark lord
00:27:31Opening the season of heat and dryness
00:27:34In the southern quadrant of the magical circle
00:27:40Which is ruled by the principle of fire
00:27:42And the philosophical element of sulfur
00:27:46Symbolizing calcination
00:27:47The first of the four primal operations of alchemy
00:27:52And accomplishing the purification of the spirit
00:27:54Through sacrifice
00:27:59Hearken now unto the myth of the sacred year
00:28:01But with the coming of the summer solstice
00:28:04When the blazing torch of the gods
00:28:07Reaches highest in the heavens
00:28:09And the fruits ripen on the vine
00:28:12Lo, Prince Baal is at the zenith of his power
00:28:18Like the gentle rains and the warming sun
00:28:21That cover the hills with green
00:28:24The Prince of Earth
00:28:26Brings the blessing of heaven
00:28:28The golden seminal sacrament of life
00:28:31Unto the celebrants of his ancient rite
00:28:34And such is the mystery of the holy grail
00:28:41But that star-born crater
00:28:42Was not filled with the wine of blood or death
00:28:45But rather with the nectar of life
00:28:49Like unto the straw of the suralingum
00:28:55Symbolized by golden honeymead
00:28:58In the great chalice of the solstices
00:29:02So it was
00:29:08So it is

00:37:26Who drinks with me?
00:37:27We drink with me
00:37:29Who drinks with me?
00:37:30We drink with me

00:37:42Round and round the king we hail
00:37:44Till we drink the holy grail
00:37:46Who has left your drive with me?
00:37:58Well done, brother! Well done!
00:38:06And it is done.
00:38:17Who dares to roll the drum of battle?
00:38:21Who comes upon me from the north?
00:38:25Who marches on me from the darkness?
00:38:28I, Prince Baal, do call thee forth.
00:38:48I emote thy royal brother, Prince of Ruin, Death and Gloom.
00:38:56Thou hast had thy fruitful season.
00:39:00Now it is time to seek the tomb.
00:39:09Ha-ha!
00:39:20Ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:39:23Ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:39:48Now the crops will parch and wither.
00:39:54Rivers, streams, and wells be dried.
00:40:03I have laid my curse upon thee, drought and famine evermore.
00:40:11Death and rot and disillusion is all thou hast in store.
00:40:18A-ha-ha-ha!
00:40:19A-ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:40:22A-ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:40:30Alas, alas, Prince Baal has fallen.
00:40:35The curse of mote is on the land.
00:40:38Call we now, I'm Theristarte.
00:40:41only she can stay his hand.
00:40:47Queen of heaven, fair Astarte,
00:40:50mistress of the evening star,
00:40:53wave-born goddess, dove of morning,
00:40:57hear us in thy land afar.
00:41:00Come to us on white wings gliding,
00:41:03come to us on crested foam.
00:41:07Bring to us your love supernal
00:41:10from your emerald-palaced home.
00:41:13Hear our call, O fair Astarte,
00:41:16consort of our dead Prince Baal.
00:41:20Lift the curse of mote upon us.
00:41:24Shield us from the fires of Saul.
00:41:27Grace the land with milk and honey.
00:41:31Save the seedlings in the earth.
00:41:33Grant us hope for all the future.
00:41:38Give us life and love and birth.
00:41:53A'imah al-Malqah.
00:42:05Oh, my God.
00:42:24I have heard thy call, my children, but at last you cried too late.
00:42:30Here I weep in mourning with you at my lover's yearly fate.
00:42:35With him goes the bloom of springtime, with him pass the gentle rains.
00:42:41He alone could fruit the hillside, he alone could green the plains.
00:42:44Yet am I still queen eternal, star-born daughter of the great L?
00:42:50Seedlings slumber, yearlings prosper under my protecting spell.
00:42:54In the autumn I do pledge ye war to make the Dark Lord yield.
00:42:58Armed with stock and stone to grind him, I shall cast mote to the field.
00:43:03Bearing with me heaven's nectar, I shall raise the dead Prince Ball
00:43:07to regain again in winter season with the waxing rays of soul.
00:43:12Come ye now, mourn him with me, burn away the blood-borne rose,
00:43:18purify the soul in sadness, shed the tears of she who knows.
00:43:42Each rose is the blood of the year-king.
00:43:45Burn it, and thy sorrows be forgot.
00:43:50These waters of the tears of the goddess, shed them, and thy sadness will pass.
00:44:04Each rose is the blood of the year-king.
00:44:06Burn it, and thy sorrows be forgot.
00:44:11These waters of the tears of the goddess, shed them, and thy sadness will pass.
00:44:25Each rose is the blood of the year-king.
00:44:27Burn it, and thy sorrows be forgot.
00:44:32These waters of the tears of the goddess, shed them, and thy sadness will pass.
00:44:52Each rose is the blood of the year-king.
00:45:07These waters of the tears of the goddess, shed them, and thy sadness will pass.

00:51:24In recent years, our High Communion has been presented in total silence, with spiritual music in the background.
00:51:31The symbolic gestures of our acolytes, our deacon, and our priest and priestess, are more eloquent and evocative than words.
00:51:40The deacon gives the charge and opens the temple with a pentagram ritual.
00:51:44The acolytes then enter in procession, carrying with them the grail hallows, and they venerate the elements.
00:51:51The priestess and priest open the shrine to reveal the ultimate mystery and then administer the sacraments to the celebrants.
00:52:00Now, let us observe the rite as it was recently performed for our Southern California magical community.

01:04:18One of the most remarkable events in the history of Western magic
01:04:22occurred during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
01:04:26The most brilliant scholar of Renaissance England
01:04:30was Dr. John Dee.
01:04:33But Dr. John Dee was also
01:04:36a secret agent for the crown,
01:04:39the Queen's royal astrologer,
01:04:42and a ceremonial magician.
01:04:45For five years,
01:04:47Dee and his scryer, Edward Kelly,
01:04:50invoked a number of mysterious angels
01:04:53who gave them a secret magical language
01:04:57and a complex system of invocation.
01:05:01This angelic language was called Enochian
01:05:04after the biblical prophet Enoch.
01:05:08And it was cryptically displayed on tablets
01:05:11said to be the watchtowers of the universe.
01:05:16This Enochian system of magic
01:05:18was partially published in 1659
01:05:21in a remarkable book called
01:05:24A True and Faithful Relation
01:05:27of What Passed for Many Years
01:05:29Between Dr. John Dee and Some Spirits,
01:05:33tending, had it succeeded,
01:05:35to a general alteration of most states
01:05:38and kingdoms in the world.
01:05:39Now in today's New Age terminology,
01:05:42the magical process detailed in this book
01:05:45would be called channeling.
01:05:47But this 16th century Enochian revelation
01:05:50was far more phenomenal and profound
01:05:53than the later 19th century accounts
01:05:57of Summerland given by spiritualist mediums
01:06:01and the more recent extraterrestrial teachings
01:06:05of the New Age channelers.
01:06:07Neither can Enochian speech be likened
01:06:10to the glossolalia of hysterical fundamentalists
01:06:13speaking in tongues.
01:06:15This Enochian language actually has a syntax and a grammar.
01:06:20It can be spoken, translated, and understood
01:06:23by both disembodied spirits
01:06:26and by the magicians who summon them.
01:06:30These Enochian calls were so powerful
01:06:32that they were originally delivered backwards
01:06:34and in reverse order.
01:06:36Only then, after they had been transcribed,
01:06:40could they actually be understood.
01:06:43Dr. Dee and Edward Kelly spent thousands of hours
01:06:48over several years gathering
01:06:50and meticulously recording this information
01:06:53from the spiritual entities they had contacted.
01:06:58Although the Enochian spirits claimed to be angels,
01:07:01they were often wrathful, capricious, and even immoral.
01:07:07But they were certainly biblical.
01:07:10They rumbled and thundered in the apocalyptic style
01:07:13of the book of Daniel and the book of Revelation.
01:07:16If the later 18th century mystic poet and artist,
01:07:20William Blake, had lived and died
01:07:22before Dee and Kelly began their work,
01:07:25one might even have suspected
01:07:27it was the ghost of Blake they had raised
01:07:30because both expressions of mysticism
01:07:33are similar in content and implication.
01:07:37There are several systems of Enochian magic.
01:07:41The one we employ is the ascension of the 30 aethers.
01:07:45This derives from an early Gnostic cosmology
01:07:49of 30 aeons,
01:07:51which are spiritually explored
01:07:53in an ascending soul quest toward enlightenment,
01:07:56an earthly presage of the soul's ascent after death.
01:08:01The aether system uses the four elemental tablets
01:08:05called watchtowers of the universe
01:08:07and a smaller fifth tablet suspended above the altar.
01:08:12This spiritual tablet of union
01:08:15unifies the four tablets at the quarters
01:08:18of the magical circle.
01:08:19In our configuration,
01:08:22a 150-millimeter amethystine scrying orb
01:08:26is mounted above the Enochian sigil of Emeth,
01:08:30or seal of God,
01:08:32upon the altar.
01:08:34The first stage of an Enochian ritual
01:08:37is the opening and charging of the tablets.
01:08:40This is called a watchtower opening.
01:08:43It is actually a variation
01:08:45of the Golden Dawn's greater pentagram ritual.
01:09:00of the Ather,
01:09:05and the Enochian protestant.
01:09:25I am the power of Mikael, and in the names and letters of the great southern quadrangle,
01:09:32I invoke ye archangels of the watchtower of the south and of fire.
01:09:56I am the power of Mikael, and in the name of Mikael, and in the name of Mikael,
01:10:34and in the name of Mikael, and in the name of Mikael, and in the name of Mikael,
01:10:47because of the watchtower of the west, and of water.
01:10:51Now grateful.
