00:00Have you ever seen a font in a logo, a YouTube thumbnail, or even a website, and thought,
00:05what font is this? Well, in this video, I'll show you multiple powerful ways to identify
00:11any font from an image, completely free and in just a few seconds. Whether you're a designer
00:17trying to match a client's brand, a student recreating a style, or just someone obsessed
00:22with typography, knowing how to identify fonts is a superpower. And the best part? You don't
00:28need to be an expert. The tools do all the heavy lifting. Let's start with the first method,
00:33what the font. This one is perfect if you want fast, accurate results with almost no effort.
00:39First, open your browser and search for what the font.
00:46Hit enter and click on the first link. I'll also drop the link directly in the description,
00:52so you can just click and go. Now this is the what the font homepage. You have a few different
00:59ways to upload your image. You can paste an image URL right here. Click the upload button
01:04on the right. Or the easiest way, just drag and drop your image anywhere on the page. This
01:10can be anything, a logo, a screenshot, a YouTube thumbnail, or even a photo you took with your
01:16phone. Once you upload your image, the tool automatically scans it and detects any text
01:27it can find. So just give it a second. And now, look at what appeared on the right side
01:31of the screen. The site has opened a Tips for Best Results panel, and this is actually
01:36really useful. And now this is the most important step, so pay attention. What the font has automatically
01:47detected the text and placed a dotted selection box right around it, just like you can see
01:52here. In this case, it found the text give thanks and placed a dotted box around it.
01:57Now here's the key thing. You want the selection to be tight around just the text. No extra background.
02:03No extra elements. Just the letters. If the automatic selection isn't perfect, you can adjust it
02:09manually by dragging the corners. You can also click on Select Custom down here to fine-tune
02:21it yourself. And if your text is slightly tilted, you can even rotate it using this option right
02:27here. In this case, I've selected just the word thanks. Once everything looks good, just
02:33click on Identify Font. And within a few seconds, here are your results. At the top, you can
02:44see it says Results for Thanks, and it found 79 matching fonts. 79 fonts from a single image
02:51in just a few seconds. Now the very first result, and usually the most accurate one, is right here.
03:00And just below the name, you get a live preview of the font using the same word from your image.
03:07You can
03:07literally compare it side-by-side with your original image. Look at the letter shapes,
03:12the thickness, the spacing, everything matches really closely. Now look at the right side. This is
03:18important. It says, from 0 US dollars, some free. That means you can get this font for free. No payment
03:25needed. Just click on Get This Font, right here, and it'll take you to the download page. Now here's
03:31something really cool that most people don't notice. Right below the preview, you'll see these sample
03:37cards, showing how the font looks in real designs. You can see it used in headlines, posters, dark
03:43backgrounds, numbers. Basically real-world use cases. This helps you understand how the font will
03:49actually look in your project, not just plain text on a white background. Really useful if you're
03:55trying to decide whether this is the right font for your project. Now if you scroll down just a little,
04:00the second and third results look very similar. See how close they are? Almost identical weight and
04:05structure. But notice, these ones come with a price. Always check that right side column. It tells you
04:11immediately whether a font is free or paid before you click anything. And if you keep scrolling,
04:17you'll see even more matches down here at the bottom. Each one is a different font that shares
04:22similar characteristics to your original. So even if the top result isn't perfect, there are plenty of
04:27alternatives to explore. Before we jump to the next method, three quick tips to get the best results
04:33every time. Number one, the cleaner your image, the better. High contrast text on a plain background
04:39works best. Number two, if there are multiple words in your image, try selecting just one word,
04:46or even one or two letters. Less noise means more accuracy. Number three, if the result doesn't look
04:52quite right, scroll down. Sometimes the perfect match is the third or fourth result, not the very
04:58first one. What the font makes the whole process really simple. Just upload, adjust, and you get results
05:05in seconds. And as you just saw, it can even find free versions of the font for you automatically.
05:11But what if it doesn't get it right? But what if this doesn't give you the exact match?
05:15In the next method, I'll show you another powerful tool to try. Let's keep going.
05:20Alright, method two. This one is called Font Squirrel Maturator. This tool is especially useful when
05:27you're working with clean logos or high-quality text. And in many cases, it can give more accurate
05:33results because you can guide it manually. Open your browser and search for Font Squirrel Maturator.
05:45Hit Enter. And click the first result. I'll also drop the direct link in the description as always.
05:53And this is the homepage. Clean, simple, just an upload area right in the middle. No distractions,
06:00no sign-up required. Just drop your image and go. Now grab your image. I'll take a screenshot of this
06:06text and upload it. You can click Upload Image here to select a file. Or just drag and drop it
06:20straight
06:21onto the page. Once you upload it, just give it a few seconds and now you'll see this screen. Highlight
06:28the
06:28text you wish to match. The tool has already placed a selection box around the text automatically,
06:34just like this. And you'll also notice these red boxes around each letter. These are called glyph boxes.
06:40Basically, the tool is trying to identify each character individually. If the selection isn't
06:46perfect, you can drag the edges of the blue box to tighten it around just the text.
06:56And down here at the bottom, you have some extra options. You can rotate the image if your text is
07:02slightly tilted. And there's also an Upload Different Image option if you want to start over.
07:07Once everything looks good, click Maturate it. Yes, it's actually called Maturate. Pretty cool name.
07:20And here are your results. But before we jump into the font list, take a look at this section here,
07:25Distributors. This shows you exactly where these fonts are available. Sites like Creative Market,
07:31Font Spring, Font Squirrel, and others. So once you find a match, you know exactly where to get it.
07:38Now scroll down, and here are the matches. You'll see a list of fonts, each with,
07:43the font name, the foundry, and a live preview using your text. On the right side of each result,
07:49you can see the pricing. Some are marked Font Squirrel, free, while others show prices like $16,
07:56$26, or $30. So always check this column before choosing your font.
08:04I think this one matches really well. Let's download it. Click on it. And it takes you directly to the
08:10download page. Click Download OTF. And it downloads as a zip file. Extract the file.
08:26Open the folder. Double-click the font file. And hit Install.
08:37And that's it. The font is now installed on your system, and ready to use. No account. No payment.
08:43No hassle. Now, let's try a different example. This one uses a much more stylized font.
08:52I upload it. And look what happens. No shapes detected to maturate. This is a very common message.
09:06And don't panic when you see it. It simply means the tool couldn't clearly detect the text shapes.
09:12Usually because the image is too complex or the font is too decorative. The fix is simple. Crop the image
09:18much tighter around just the text. So I'll crop it down to focus only on sugar magic.
09:29And now much better. You can see the glyph boxes are now correctly placed around each letter. And the
09:35selection box is tight. No extra background. The cleaner your selection, the better your results.
09:50Now here's where this tool becomes really powerful. Look at this section, shapes found. The tool has
09:57separated each letter from your image and displayed them individually. And below each one, there's a small
10:03input box. This is where you manually tell the tool what each letter is. So for example, this is M,
10:10type M.
10:13This is S, type S.
10:18Now sometimes, you'll see two letters combined, like UG in one box. When that happens, don't try to guess.
10:25Just remove it.
10:28The tool works best when each box contains only one clean letter. The more accurate your inputs are,
10:34the better your results will be.
10:45Now go ahead and click Maturated.
10:50And here are the results. You might notice something a bit off at first.
10:54The previews only show the letters you entered, so they can look incomplete. But there's an easy fix for
10:59that. At the top, you'll see this field called Custom Display Text. Just type the full text from your
11:06image. In this case, Sugar Magic. And click Maturated again.
11:19Now the previews update using your full text, which makes comparing the fonts much easier and much more
11:26accurate. And there you go. Now you've got clean, complete results to work with. Super useful. And
11:32there are the results. Look at this, a long list of fonts, all previewed using the words Sugar Magic,
11:38exactly like the original image. Each row shows the font in a different style. And you can immediately
11:45start comparing them to your original. The first result here looks almost identical. That's likely
11:50our match. Now scroll through and find your best match. Pay attention to the curves, the weight,
11:56the overall feel of the letters. And notice, your original image stays visible here at the bottom,
12:02so you can compare without scrolling back up. That's a really useful feature. And that's
12:07Font Squirrel Maturator. This tool works best when the text is clear, the background is simple,
12:13and the letters are easy to recognize. If the image is too complex, just crop tighter and try again.
12:19Compared to Watt the font, this tool gives you way more control, which makes a huge difference when the
12:25automatic detection isn't enough. If you're still not getting good results, try using just one word,
12:31or even a couple of letters. So now you've seen two powerful tools, one that's fast and automatic,
12:37and one that's more controlled and precise. But we're not done yet. The next tool is called WhatFont
12:43is, and this one sits right in the middle. It combines the automatic detection you saw in Watt the
12:48font with some of the manual control from Maturator. And on top of that, it has a few unique features
12:54that neither of those tools offer. Let's take a look. Open your browser and search for WhatFont is.
13:03Hit Enter. And click the first result. The link will be in the description.
13:11And this is the homepage. Right away, you'll notice something different. At the top, there's a clear
13:16four-step process. Upload, crop, optimize, and input. So instead of guessing what to do next,
13:23the tool guides you step by step. And on the left side, you can see what it offers. It can
13:29match your
13:29image against over a million fonts and show dozens of similar results. That's a massive database, which
13:36increases your chances of finding a match. Now, drag and drop your image right here into the upload box,
13:42or click Browse Files to select one from your device, or paste an image URL if you have one.
13:51Once you upload, it automatically takes you to the next step.
13:55And now we're in step two. Crop to text. Look at this tip on the left. Best results. Select 4
14:02to 10
14:02characters. One line of text. This is really important. You don't need the entire sentence.
14:08Just a few clean characters are enough. You can see the image has loaded here,
14:12and there's already a crop box around the text. Just like before, drag the edges to tighten the
14:18selection around just the letters. Cut out any extra background above and below.
14:28Once it looks clean, click Next Step.
14:34Now this is where what font stands out. The Optimize Step. None of the previous tools give
14:39you this level of control. On the left, you've got several options. Contrast. Increase this if your
14:46text is faint. Brightness. Adjust if the image is too dark or too bright. Rotation. Straighten,
14:52tilted text. And these quick tools are really useful. Auto-adjust. This is the easiest option. It
14:59automatically fixes brightness and contrast for you. Invert colors. Perfect for white text on a
15:05dark background. Thicken lines. Helps when the font is too thin. Reduce noise. Useful if your
15:12background is messy or textured. And here's a very powerful option. It says, only if letters touch,
15:19draw a thin line to separate them. So if two letters in your image are overlapping or touching each
15:25other. You can actually draw a line between them right on the image to separate them before the
15:29tool analyzes them. That level of control is something you simply don't get anywhere else.
15:35If everything looks good, just click Next Step.
15:40The site will give you some quick tips before you start the next step.
15:48And now Step 4. Enter Characters. This is where what font is is really clever. Look at what happened.
15:54The tool has automatically cut each individual letter out of your image and displayed them here
15:59separately. And underneath each letter, there's a text box where it's already taken a guess at what
16:04the letter is. Your job is simple. Just check and correct any mistakes. And here's one of the best
16:10features. This checkbox. Only free fonts. If you enable this, the results will show only free fonts.
16:18No paid options at all. That alone can save you a lot of time. Once everything looks correct, click Next
16:24Step.
16:28And here are the results. It found dozens of matching fonts, both free and commercial. At the top,
16:36your original image stays visible, so you can compare as you scroll. And look at the
16:40filter tabs right here. Commercial. Paid fonts for professional use. Free personal. Free to download
16:47for personal projects. Google Fonts. Completely free. Open source. Works everywhere. All. Shows
16:54everything together. This filtering system is one of the most powerful features of this tool. Now
17:00scroll through the results. Each result shows the font name. A live preview in the Disney style. A
17:07platform where you can get it. Creative fabrics. My fonts. And others. Some fonts are free for personal
17:14use only. So always check the license before downloading. Find the one that matches your
17:19original image best. Click Download Now. And you're done. And that's what font is. This tool is great when you
17:26want a mix of accuracy, control and flexibility. Especially with its powerful filtering and optimization features.
18:02And just like that,
18:03you can now identify pretty much any font from an image.
18:07If one tool doesn't work, try another.
18:10And between these three, you'll almost always find a match.
