00:00Just read a tweet from the Mets. It's saying that they're going to put
00:03Luis Robert Jr. on the injured list with lumbar spine disc herniation. It just keeps piling on
00:11for this team. So what's the difference between lumbar spine disc herniation and inflammation?
00:18So inflammation, assuming it's what I think it is, would just be more of the muscles around
00:23the spine. So the muscles that support the vertebrae or the backbone and the central
00:29nervous system, a disc herniation is when one of the discs between those vertebrae, so our
00:35backbone, quote unquote, is actually a series of many small bones with little discs between them.
00:41Sometimes one of those discs can slip out backwards where your spinal cord is and press on the cord or
00:46the roots. So that's actually a much more challenging injury to deal with. And we always try non-operative,
00:53but that's one that might actually need a small surgery depending upon how big that disc is.
00:57It really depends, but tougher.
