00:00journey unlike anything you've seen before for six recovering addicts the safety of rehab is over
00:07you're used to me being all over you guys in a residential program this is not that if you
00:12thought sober living meant no drugs and alcohol think again i have the needles and i have the
00:19heroin i'm still completely changed with heroin i'm in my hideout a secret location if you guys
00:26go to the corner of figueroa and wilshire i will give you further information this isn't rehab
00:34this is real life and what these people have on the line is everything
00:52a little over a year ago we did something that had never been attempted before we explored the
00:58dark side of celebrity what happens when drugs and alcohol mix with fame and fortune watch this one
01:04dude this is why i'm gonna probably die doing this okay i just scratched the itch that was in my
01:12brain thank you he followed several celebrities as they entered a residential drug treatment center
01:17where the hell are we the result was an experience called celebrity rehab that experience revealed
01:23just how hard the road to recovery is you smuggled drugs into the place i said no i did not
01:30take it back
01:33you you you're not a participant you're just like us the joy that comes from a sober life and on
01:40the
01:40sober living i recommend it for you and i recommend it for you and guess what i recommend it for
01:46you
01:47staying sober is a daily battle 93 of all inpatients stay sober then it dips to 10 when they transition
01:55to home so there's an intermediate stage that recovering addicts must get through they do this
02:01by moving into what we call a sober house at sober house addicts have one foot in treatment
02:06and one foot in the real world there will be boundaries and rules we must follow our tours there's
02:13like rules and we'll go through it together there will be chores for them to do they'll be required
02:17to get a job i can offer you ten dollars an hour we will have a curfew each night we're
02:23going to
02:23escort you all right do the show right i know i know the guidelines there's no sex no acting out
02:29violently with each other and of course no drugs or alcohol you need to not drink and not take drugs
02:36and you need to get your together got that that's it that's the bottom line
02:42the sober house is led by jennifer jimenez an accomplished actress who started the movies
02:47vanilla sky and blow she's also a recovering drug addict jen will have a tough job because she has to
02:54enforce the rules and help guide a house full of addicts who are just starting their recovery in the
03:00real world it's not my job to be their babysitter my job is to try and enforce the rules will
03:05who
03:05everybody knows from celebrity rehab is back he's the muscle of the house he backs up jen and keeps
03:11everyone in line bob forrest my head counselor and one of the biggest success stories in recovery himself
03:17will make regular visits to the house and actually run a group there these patients have to get used to
03:23the fact that they are now outpatients they're no longer under my continuous inpatient care but make
03:29no mistake they'll be seeing a lot of me i will be continuously in touch and supervising their care i
03:34will
03:34know if anything is going on in the silver house the stakes are high they'll want to party
03:52sadly they'll often relapse this is a junkie that's paranoid that throws this crap burnt tin foil in a
04:00crack light it's insanity at its greatest they will either slip back into the deadly cycle of
04:09addiction i'm drinking in first class see you soon okay i want to go home now just can't handle it
04:17yeah or they will move forward and enjoy the kind of life that each of them deserves a life that
04:24is
04:24sober i'm doing this for me yeah but most of all you know i owe it to my kids because
04:29they
04:30they haven't had a chance to see me sober
04:44they will grow
04:45i'm so sorry i would just do that they will feel like jumping out of their skin
04:50i'm not so stupid like he thinks i am but ultimately they will come to the realization that they are
04:55entitled to a sober life
05:10it's day one of sober living and the patients are arriving from a month of rehab to check into the
05:16sober living house in the hollywood hills these patients have just completed 21 days of treatment
05:21the past new recovery center they've had a week to return home gather their belongings and see
05:26their loved ones and they are now returning to enroll for 30 days of ongoing care in a sober living
05:32environment here in hollywood so uh here we go i'm gonna check myself into the sober house
05:40it's the next chapter next chapter in the shifty saga you can take the long way over there i'm in
05:47no
05:48hurry i'm nervous man i am nervous i shouldn't be because this is the part where i'm getting my
05:57life together but i am i'm nervous you know
06:03well that it goes from rehab to home they're not going to make it i mean there's very few that
06:07can
06:08you know i guess reality is setting them i don't have discipline i don't have structure i have nothing to
06:13even start with i don't know how to live sober you know i have no idea what i'm doing sober
06:19living is
06:20an environment where people go post rehab to live together with other addicts who are newly sober
06:26support each other and confront each other when you slip up the difference between celebrity rehab
06:32which is a residential treatment center and the sober house is people like me doctors are not around
06:36all the time they're not going to see me all the time and that's a shock for them as they
06:39begin to
06:40get some separation and autonomy the good thing about sober living on like rehab is you're kind
06:44of living in the real world and so i'm hoping that i'll be able to learn how to cope without
06:49using alcohol or drugs man i got dealers over here all i do is think about drinking every second of
06:59every
06:59day i've been sober for you know over 30 days now and i want to make sure that i can
07:06live the lifestyle
07:08that i want to live as far as my music is concerned without being high my drug addiction just started
07:15to skyrocket and i started doing what it took to get money for drugs and i became a high-end
07:22escort you
07:24know the title of one of the 50 sexiest women in the world by maxim magazine was now used to
07:29sell me
07:31so i got 22 days of being sober the fears i have is is relapsing 95 of people doing this
07:42through relapse and i don't want to be one of those 95 who do relapse i want to be able
07:49to say i'm one of the
07:50five percent we do make it and do succeed
08:08the hardest turn in my whole life
08:13amber smith from celebrity rehab 2 is a supermodel with long-term opiate addiction
08:19i started modeling at 15 years old i garnered about 300 international magazine covers and sports
08:26illustrated swimwear issues all the while i was heavily addicted to pills
08:34i've been addicted for 16 years straight i've never been off how'd you find the opiates
08:40my mother's been addicted so she gave them to you
08:42um amber is a severe opiate addict opiate addiction has the highest relapse rate
08:50she has to take her sobriety seriously and be very diligent about establishing a sober life
09:13living living living living living living living living living living living living living houses are run by
09:15a recovering addicts i have two and a half years in recovery nice if you need anything let me know
09:22come in, not, whatever.
09:24And my role here is teaching them how to live
09:26in a sober experience.
09:28You know, they're not used to this.
09:30Yeah, I love that you're already like
09:32moaning on that one. Everyone's gonna get
09:34chores. We rotate every three
09:36days. Addicts aren't too fond of
09:38cleaning up after themselves. Making
09:40your beds and cleaning the toilets and
09:42you know, doing everything else that the real world
09:44does. This is a clean house. It's a
09:46nice house. So we work together as a
09:48family. You know, no one wants their freedom
09:50curtailed. I want my independence
09:52and I want to hit life sober, but
09:54yet, I've never been in sober living.
09:56I've been in drug living.
10:07Seth Binzer
10:08was on Celebrity Rehab 1.
10:10Seth readmitted to Celebrity Rehab 2
10:12after a terrible relapse and ended up
10:14on our roof smoking crack.
10:16You know, the last year, you know, it's definitely been
10:18a challenge for me to overcome my dark
10:20relationship with that drug.
10:22Seth is a chronic relapsing
10:24stimulant addict.
10:26For Seth, being so close to Hollywood Boulevard,
10:28the nightclubs, and the environments where he used
10:30to score, there is danger
10:32just down the hill. He has very
10:34high hopes to rekindle his life as
10:36a father, get the trust of his wife
10:38and his son remains heartbroken.
10:40My fear is that Seth will not
10:42address some of these fundamental issues and
10:44he'll go out, he'll relapse again,
10:45and my ultimate fear is he will die.
10:48I have lots of fears right now.
10:49I mean, I just got like a week or two
10:51of sobriety. It's like the disease is still
10:53stronger than me at this point.
10:54Like, I'm on shaky ground.
10:55Every move matters.
10:58Seth is a great guy.
10:59He's all fun and games.
11:01But I hope as he walks through the doors
11:02of this sober living,
11:03he takes his recovery seriously.
11:09What?
11:11Come on, let me in.
11:13Hi.
11:14Hi, little one.
11:15How are you?
11:16Good to see you.
11:18I know Seth, and I've known him for a few years,
11:20and I know his addiction is really deep.
11:22It's at a very serious point.
11:24Most of the people moving in here have a full
11:2521 days of sobriety.
11:27Seth only has a few days.
11:29He's pretty deep in it.
11:30No sex?
11:31No sex?
11:32No using.
11:33Of course.
11:34If you use three times, you're done.
11:36Three times?
11:37Yeah, I know.
11:37It's a nice little lenient there,
11:39but I really wouldn't...
11:40I'm going to try not to use at all.
11:42Sober houses have rules.
11:44We have to have them.
11:45If not, this house is going to go down quick.
11:47We don't have sex,
11:49we don't do drugs,
11:50and we don't break the rules.
11:51We have something here we call a strike board
11:54in my office.
11:55If they break a rule,
11:57they will get a strike.
11:59And if they get three strikes,
12:01they're out.
12:03Come on, kiddo.
12:04I'm going to take it back up.
12:09So...
12:10I don't think Rodney...
12:10Oh, what a...
12:13What a gorgeous...
12:14How's it going?
12:15Transfer.
12:16Let's take transfer.
12:17Is that your room?
12:18Uh-huh.
12:19Right here?
12:19You want to see it?
12:20Because you can.
12:21Yeah.
12:22Whose room is this?
12:23That's your...
12:24We get right in there?
12:25Yeah.
12:26Okay, do you see how, like,
12:27right here there's this line?
12:29Right.
12:29All guys, including me,
12:31can come in.
12:32Any girl comes in here,
12:33it's, like, bound for trouble.
12:35Right.
12:35Addicts don't do rules very well.
12:38That's not their forte.
12:39Addicts will go in any angle
12:42and every way
12:42and try to change it
12:44through their way.
12:45Seth, come out here.
12:47Oh, look at that.
12:48You're not supposed to be in there.
12:50It's all pink.
12:51We can't even look and say hi.
12:52You can look,
12:53but you can't go in there
12:54ever again like that.
12:54That line,
12:55you can't cross, dude.
12:56Okay.
12:57Seth was in the house
12:58in less than five minutes
12:59and he was already
13:00trying to cross the line.
13:02Say we pull something off
13:03that you didn't see, right?
13:05You know,
13:06if you get away with s***,
13:07it's only going to damage
13:08your sobriety.
13:09We're going to start talking
13:10about just, like,
13:12like, hanging,
13:13like, you know,
13:13small...
13:14Kissing a girl.
13:14Kissing a girl.
13:15Or hanging out with someone,
13:17like, when you're already asleep
13:19or something.
13:20See this whole rule book?
13:21I'm tight with my boundaries.
13:22I know.
13:23And I adore you enough
13:24to enforce them.
13:25Right.
13:27I'm going to ask you now,
13:28do you have any drugs?
13:29No, I have no drugs.
13:30I'm paraphernalia.
13:31Come on, I'm in Hollywood.
13:32I can get it all a block away.
13:34Seth does love to play with people.
13:36Precious, adorable,
13:38smart, intelligent.
13:39Seth also has one
13:40of the biggest demons
13:41in the world.
13:44Coming up.
13:45Hi, Steven.
13:46Hi.
13:47How are you?
13:47How are you?
13:49Yeah, I haven't even worn
13:51those pants in 10 years.
13:55Hey, Dr. Drew, it's Jen.
13:57I have the needles
13:58and I have the heroin.
13:59We have a crisis
14:00and we need you.
14:02Wow.
14:04Before we go into battle here,
14:06are you okay?
14:07If I don't feel
14:08he needs detox,
14:09are you okay with him
14:09staying here?
14:10No.
14:11Shh.
14:18Rodney King is here
14:19from Celebrity Rehab 2.
14:21A witness videotaped
14:22the officers beating King
14:24after a high-speed chase.
14:25I became infamous
14:26because of the beating
14:27and the riots.
14:29Rodney is a fantastic candidate
14:30to benefit from sober living.
14:32You're having down a beer
14:33around 11 o'clock
14:34and you ain't that human.
14:36Rodney desperately dreams
14:37of moving beyond the past,
14:39moving away from
14:39what the perception of him
14:41is in the headline.
14:42He wants to be
14:43who he is,
14:44a human being.
14:45He wants to stay sober,
14:46wake up every day sober,
14:48enjoy his family,
14:49and just be the gentleman
14:51that he actually is.
14:54Hi.
14:55How are you?
14:56I'm pretty good, thanks.
14:57I'm Jennifer.
14:57Jennifer, I'm Rodney.
14:58Hey, Rodney, come in.
14:59Bring your bag in.
15:00All right.
15:01Cool.
15:01I'm so excited your hair.
15:02It's nice and cool in here.
15:03I know.
15:04It's nice.
15:04When I walked into the place,
15:06it just felt like,
15:07you know,
15:09okay,
15:09you've got another shot at this
15:11and this is like
15:12my last shot.
15:15Have you done this before?
15:17I've done a lot of these before.
15:19Yeah.
15:20But I'm trying to make sure
15:20that this one is the last one
15:22I'll have to do.
15:23Yeah.
15:24This one here,
15:24not court ordered
15:26or nothing like that.
15:27That's a blast.
15:27I'm doing this for me.
15:29You know,
15:29I owe it to myself,
15:30but most of all,
15:32you know,
15:32I owe it to my kids
15:33because they haven't had a chance
15:35to see me sober.
15:37With Rodney,
15:38things aren't always
15:39what you expect
15:39they're going to be,
15:40and I really believe
15:41that there's an ability
15:43of Rodney
15:43to just come out
15:45on top here.
15:46Welcome.
15:47Oh, thanks.
15:47Welcome home.
15:48I'm really excited for you.
15:49All right.
15:49Thanks.
15:58Nikki McKibben,
15:59American Idol contestant.
16:01She's going to do Rehab 2.
16:05I got back home
16:06from American Idol
16:07and started doing
16:08a lot of cocaine.
16:09My mother showed me
16:10how to do that.
16:11This is a pivotal year
16:13in Nikki's life.
16:13With the one-year anniversary
16:15of her mother's death
16:16approaching
16:16while she is living
16:17in the sober house,
16:18this will be
16:19a watershed month for her.
16:20This is a chance
16:21to get used to being
16:22a sober person
16:23in the world.
16:25Nikki, in addition,
16:26has the stress
16:26of being concerned about
16:28and worried about
16:28her children
16:29who are thousands
16:30of miles away
16:31while she focuses
16:32on her own sobriety.
16:34We don't need
16:35this in here.
16:36We really try to...
16:37I'm going to enforce that.
16:38Like, that is a must.
16:39Like, I've known
16:40a couple people recently
16:41that just died from that.
16:42One mom died
16:42from drug and alcohol
16:43over there.
16:44This wasn't a year ago.
16:45Oh, sorry.
16:46Yeah, so the one-year
16:46anniversary of her death
16:48is going to be
16:48while I'm in here.
16:50So that may be
16:51a really hard day for me.
16:52And we will walk you
16:53through it.
16:54Okay.
16:54I know this is going to be
16:56a really emotional time
16:57for Nikki.
16:57I am here to help her
16:59in any way she needs.
17:06Hi, Mary.
17:09Mary Carey has joined us
17:10from Season 1
17:10Celebrity Rehab.
17:12After Season 1,
17:13Mary Carey did enroll
17:14in sober living,
17:14however, for only
17:15a very short period of time.
17:17Since then,
17:17she has struggled
17:18with her sobriety
17:19and I have wanted her
17:20to re-enroll
17:21in sober living.
17:22As a result,
17:23I invited her
17:24to join this patient group
17:25for 30 days
17:26of sober living.
17:27It's time she got serious
17:28about her sobriety.
17:32You want me some
17:33sex toys in that bag?
17:35I know Mary
17:36for some time now.
17:38A lot of Mary's fame
17:39has been this girl,
17:41this, you know,
17:42whole character.
17:43Really, like,
17:44you get to spend
17:44five minutes with Mary,
17:45you will fall in love
17:47with the real Mary.
17:48Like, there's this
17:48tender, sweet soul.
18:02One of the fascinating
18:04struggles to watch
18:04is to see her
18:05as Mary Ellen,
18:06this young woman,
18:07versus Mary Carey,
18:09who is this character
18:09she's created for herself
18:11and how she struggles
18:11with those two personas
18:13and how that's going to happen
18:14remains to be seen.
18:15I'm so glad you're doing this.
18:17I'm so glad to be doing it.
18:18You know what I mean?
18:19Like, it's huge.
18:20And you look gorgeous.
18:21It's a huge.
18:31All right, here we go.
18:44Coming up,
18:45just got a call
18:45from Jan at the sober house
18:47and Stephen Adler
18:47showed up with heroin,
18:49with syringes,
18:50probably loaded.
18:51Stephen is going to die
18:52if this doesn't stop.
18:54Wow.
18:55Yeah.
18:57Yeah.
18:58Yeah.
18:59Yeah.
19:01Yeah.
19:06Yeah.
19:08All right, here we go.
19:10All right, here we go.
19:10All right, here we go.
19:11All right, here we go.
19:11All right, here we go.
19:15All right, here we go.
19:20Stephen Adler from Celebrity Rehab 2
19:21is in a sober house
19:22and Guns N' Roses invented
19:25sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
19:27And if you want to know
19:28where that takes you,
19:29Stephen Adler is the poster child for that.
19:34Stephen Adler gave Shelley and me
19:36and Bob a very difficult time
19:38and treatment.
19:38He has an extreme problem
19:40with authority.
19:41Jen will definitely have her hands full
19:42being an authority figure to Stephen.
19:44In many ways,
19:45he's just still like an 11-year-old
19:47and really rebels
19:48against all authority.
19:49For Stephen,
19:50so many people in his life
19:51have really had it
19:52with his disease
19:53and if he is not able
19:54to sustain sobriety,
19:55I'm not sure many of the people
19:57in his life
19:58would have him back.
20:21The minute Stephen walked in,
20:23I knew he was high instantly.
20:25Addicts have a sixth sense.
20:26You know if somebody's high
20:28or they're drunk.
20:30You just do.
20:31This is the kitchen.
20:34Everyone's going to be assigned
20:35every three days.
20:36You'll switch.
20:37Okay.
20:37All right?
20:38So, like each person.
20:40Say you'll get clean kitchen.
20:41This is my house.
20:42I want it to remain like this.
20:43That'll be your house.
20:44It's your house too.
20:46I want to do it.
20:46It's our house.
20:47Exactly.
20:48And we respect those boundaries,
20:49which is great.
20:50I know.
20:51You don't have to talk
20:51like I'm five years.
20:52I'm not talking
20:53like you're five.
20:54There you are.
20:55Stephen's emotions were like
20:56so up and down.
20:58One minute he was sweet.
20:59The next minute he was snotty.
21:01A minute after that
21:01he was kind of loving.
21:03There's way too many things
21:04going on with Stephen
21:05that I don't find stable.
21:07So I'm going to go through
21:08your bags if you don't mind.
21:09No, I'm just going to stay up for you.
21:10The first thing I have to do
21:11is search their bags
21:12once they get into the house.
21:14And I am praying to God
21:16that there's no drugs or alcohol
21:18because it would be so disappointing
21:20if there was the first day in.
21:22There's that.
21:23I said,
21:23I'm out there.
21:25You're out there.
21:26Oh, f***.
21:27I didn't take that.
21:27I didn't know I even had that.
21:31I'll take that yet.
21:32Don't take that yet.
21:32Wait till the cameras.
21:34The first thing I grab
21:35is a pair of pants.
21:37And I get needles.
21:41F***.
21:41I didn't even know
21:43that was it
21:43because I don't want those.
21:44Let me check.
21:44So I'm going to take it now.
21:45I mean, don't show it
21:46on the cameras.
21:47Okay.
21:48Okay.
22:13I knew we had a big problem
22:17and the one thing I needed to do
22:18immediately was called Will.
22:20And I needed to do this calmly
22:22in order not to rile up Stephen
22:24anymore than he already was.
22:26Hey, Will.
22:28Hey, it's Jen.
22:29How are you?
22:31Can you do me a favor?
22:32Could you come over here?
22:34Yeah.
22:36Yeah.
22:38Mm-hmm.
22:39It was fine.
22:41Okay.
22:56I was hoping we were going to get
22:57through the first date
22:58without any trouble.
23:00The minute I walked in
23:01and saw Stephen,
23:02I knew something was wrong.
23:04Hi, Jen.
23:04How are you?
23:05I need to talk to you
23:06for a second.
23:07All right.
23:07Do you want to go to your room?
23:08Uh, yeah.
23:09Okay.
23:12Okay.
23:13He's high as a kite.
23:14I know he is.
23:14I saw that.
23:15He's high as a kite.
23:16I don't know where this is from
23:18and needles.
23:18Uh, I'll show you one.
23:20I need you to please
23:21immediately test them.
23:22Hold on.
23:23This one sees.
23:24They've been used.
23:25When he saw those,
23:26before I even pulled them out,
23:28he said,
23:28oh my God, oh my God,
23:29I haven't even worn these pants
23:30in 10 years.
23:30I can't believe they're here.
23:31Yeah, right.
23:32Yeah.
23:33His eyes are so panty.
23:34No, I saw it right
23:35when I looked at him.
23:36I was so disappointed and hurt
23:37because I just saw him
23:38three days ago.
23:39I know.
23:40He realized today.
23:40He looked terrific.
23:43Well, these are new.
23:45But nobody brings needles
23:46to see if they don't have dope.
23:47Yeah.
23:48So it's on him somewhere.
23:49I just don't know
23:49if it's in his shoes.
23:50I checked all the stock.
23:53Oh, there's heroin.
23:54That's when I said
23:55it was done.
23:55He was smoking it.
23:57That was a hit.
23:58That's heroin when he was smoking.
24:00Smell it.
24:01Smell it?
24:02It's handling.
24:03You know,
24:03I'm going to go through
24:03all this stuff,
24:04but I want to search him first
24:05because if he's got on him
24:06while I'm searching,
24:06I don't want him
24:07to hide it somewhere.
24:08And needles are not
24:09my favorite thing in the world.
24:11I've had a boyfriend
24:12die of an overdose
24:13and smelling and holding
24:15my hand and stuff
24:16and it was just
24:17really intense.
24:21Thanks, Dr. Stipper.
24:23What's happening
24:24like that, too, brother?
24:25What's up, man?
24:26You good at you?
24:27Yeah, man.
24:33Are you all right?
24:34It's all right.
24:36Uh-oh.
24:37Do you not feel it
24:37from the rooms?
24:39All right.
24:40Steve.
24:41The room situation?
24:42That's it.
24:43I'm going to talk to you.
24:44All right.
24:44All right, buddy.
24:47The strip search.
24:48Did you use it today?
24:50Not today.
24:51No one day.
24:51Okay.
24:52One time.
24:53I know.
24:54I know,
24:55but that one time,
24:55you know what that does
24:57to yourself, Will,
24:58check this out.
24:59I'm going to have to
24:59go through your stuff.
25:01If you have any
25:02in there,
25:02give it to me.
25:03I don't want to find something.
25:04You're my friend.
25:05I'm telling you that's true.
25:07Here.
25:09You're just done.
25:10Don't tell everybody.
25:11All right.
25:11Come on.
25:12Hey, it's Will.
25:13All right.
25:14I did a strip search
25:15with Steven.
25:16And sure enough,
25:17there was another tinfoil
25:19caked with heroin.
25:21Now the whole house
25:22is unsafe
25:23until Jen and I
25:24can establish it.
25:25There are no other drugs
25:26and we can search
25:27the premises.
25:29Is that you, Jen?
25:32Sorry, what?
25:33Yeah, I found another foil
25:35with something else on it.
25:37And it's top project.
25:38Did you test him?
25:40No.
25:41He can't piss.
25:41I did a strip search.
25:43Can't pee.
25:44I just didn't have a few
25:45on the ass.
25:45And get him away
25:46from the rest of the group
25:47and have him in the room
25:48and tell him what happened.
25:50Like, there's no tolerance
25:51for that.
25:52Yes.
25:54What?
25:54It's a fairy stuff.
26:09Hey, Will.
26:10We need to get through.
26:11Is there any way
26:11I can get some Tylenol
26:12or some aspirin?
26:14Can you do me a favor
26:15until I get done with this?
26:16Yeah, go ahead.
26:17Just stay clear
26:18just for a minute.
26:19When I first saw Steven,
26:21it looked like it overtook
26:22a little bit too much
26:23or something.
26:25Maybe it's medicine
26:26or something.
26:29Most addicts
26:30don't have just one stash.
26:31We found that one.
26:32They have multiple stashes.
26:34Socks.
26:35I loved using socks.
26:36That's why I used to
26:37always put my s***
26:38in my socks.
26:41Oh, yeah.
26:43And my,
26:43do we have a lot of socks.
26:46Oh, yeah.
26:49How many of you have?
26:50I have a bread.
26:51Every day.
26:52One day.
26:52Yeah, the old
26:53four-handed sock diversion.
26:56I didn't remember this one.
26:58Take it all.
26:59We'll get tired
27:00by the 390th day.
27:02One of the things
27:03I try not to do
27:04is call Dr. Drew
27:04unless it's an absolute emergency.
27:07But it's only day one
27:09and I have a guy here
27:10wasted on heroin.
27:12I really had no choice
27:14at that point.
27:15Hey, Dr. Drew,
27:16it's Jed.
27:17Steven Adler's high
27:18as a kite
27:19and I found needles
27:20in his pocket
27:21and there's residue
27:22and heroin.
27:27I have the needles
27:29and I have the heroin.
27:31We have a crisis
27:32and we need you.
27:48We just got a call
27:49from Jed at the sober house
27:50and Steven Adler showed up
27:52with heroin,
27:53with syringes,
27:54probably loaded.
27:56Boy, he just left us.
27:58He had just
27:59went out into the world
28:01with a good attitude,
28:02doing well
28:02and here we are
28:03and I use it again.
28:04And then with him knowing
28:06we were going to check,
28:07I'm dying to know
28:08what he was thinking.
28:09Steven is going to die
28:10if this doesn't stop.
28:11It's just very simple.
28:14Jed and I
28:15were trying to deal
28:16with Steven
28:16as quietly as possible.
28:18We didn't want
28:19everybody in the house
28:20to know that he was
28:21on drugs.
28:21But you could tell
28:22it was starting
28:23to spread through the house.
28:25It's dumb, it hurts.
28:46as time passed,
28:48Steven was starting
28:48to become sicker
28:49and sicker
28:50from the heroine.
28:54Are you a narcissist?
29:01There we go.
29:04Oh, man.
29:09You okay?
29:11Yeah.
29:25No more acid,
29:27he drinks.
29:28You all right?
29:29Yeah, I just got
29:30in there finally.
29:32You okay?
29:34Damn it, yeah.
29:35You all right?
29:36He had some shit.
29:38He hid it.
29:40After he found out
29:41I got in trouble,
29:42I busted,
29:43I did some shit,
29:44he probably went
29:45and finished
29:45whatever shit he had.
29:47He didn't shoot it.
29:48I think he probably
29:49had to eat it.
29:50You think he ate them
29:50or he's a type
29:51that would eat it?
29:52You do whatever
29:52you need to, Charlie.
29:53He came in here
29:54with some rigs.
29:55Totally.
29:56What was that?
29:57Needles.
29:58Oh, okay.
29:59Yeah,
30:00that's what Jen was saying.
30:01He came in here
30:01back and she was like,
30:03whoa.
30:04He's a good addict.
30:06Yeah.
30:06He had everything
30:07he needed.
30:10Drew pulling up
30:11in the driveway
30:11was one of the greatest
30:13sights in the whole world.
30:15For me to be
30:16at that house
30:16things had to be
30:17really bad
30:18and so there I was
30:19and indeed
30:20things were really bad.
30:22Did you talk
30:22to Steven on his head?
30:23No, not yet.
30:24What does he say
30:25about what you found?
30:26Oh, when he found
30:27the needles.
30:27After we talked
30:27on the phone
30:28did you talk to him
30:28again or no?
30:29When he saw
30:30when I was pulling
30:31everything out
30:31he was pulling
30:32everything for me
30:33out really fast.
30:34So he saw
30:35that you saw?
30:36Yeah, and then he goes
30:36oh my God
30:36don't show the camera
30:38don't show the camera
30:38and I saw
30:40it was needles
30:40and he said
30:41oh those are
30:42these pants are
30:4210 years old.
30:43I haven't worn them
30:44in 10 years.
30:44Okay.
30:45So let's get
30:46let's get our head
30:46around the situation.
30:47Before we go
30:48into battle here
30:49are you okay
30:50if I don't feel
30:51he needs detox
30:52and if we feel
30:52that Will has
30:53adequately searched
30:54for drugs
30:54are you okay
30:55are you okay
30:55with him staying
30:55here?
31:01No.
31:04Coming up
31:05That one girl
31:06stop talking about it.
31:08The repercussions
31:09they suck.
31:11You want to get
31:11sober?
31:12Of course.
31:21So let's get
31:21let's get our head
31:22around the situation.
31:23He's been using
31:24since this morning.
31:25Four years.
31:26Let's just
31:26before we go
31:27into battle here
31:28are you okay
31:29if I don't feel
31:30he needs detox
31:31and if we feel
31:31that Will has
31:32adequately searched
31:33him for drugs
31:33are you okay
31:34with him staying
31:34here?
31:34No.
31:35One of the
31:36interesting parts
31:37of being a treatment
31:37team that treats
31:38addicts is we
31:39disagree amongst
31:39ourselves.
31:40We can have
31:40differing ideas
31:41about how a certain
31:42situation ought to
31:43be approached
31:43but we share
31:44our ideas with
31:45each other
31:45and reach a
31:46consensus.
31:46This is sober
31:47living.
31:47It's their life.
31:48They've got to
31:48decide to live
31:49sober.
31:50We've got to
31:50get started
31:50somewhere.
31:52Because it's
31:52just day one
31:53it's a hard
31:54call to send
31:55Steven to the
31:55hospital.
31:56He only used
31:57once.
31:57He doesn't
31:57really need
31:58detox and yet
31:59here he is in
32:00the house
32:01intoxicated having
32:02used in the
32:02house so
32:03understandably Jen
32:04wants him out.
32:05From my standpoint
32:05if we find
32:06things on him
32:07we get rid of
32:08them on we go.
32:09I just think
32:10that coming in
32:11here and being
32:11high already
32:12coming in here.
32:12It happens all
32:13the time.
32:13You'd be
32:13surprised.
32:14Where do you
32:15find that line?
32:16You know what
32:16I mean?
32:17Steven was
32:18walking into a
32:19sober living
32:19house with
32:20drugs.
32:21Yes it
32:22happened.
32:22I'm supposed
32:23to protect
32:23these people.
32:24How am I
32:25supposed to
32:25do my job?
32:28Are we
32:28going to help
32:28him or not?
32:30I think
32:30treatment would
32:31help him.
32:32He's been
32:32through
32:32mold.
32:36Before we
32:36really do the
32:37final assault
32:38let's just go
32:38see what's
32:39going on with
32:39Steven when he
32:39tells us.
32:40Let's try it.
32:41So do you want
32:41to bring him in
32:41here?
32:41Yeah bring him
32:42in here.
32:42Bring him.
32:44Steven can you
32:45come in here
32:45please?
32:59What's going on?
33:00I had some
33:00problems with
33:01that manager
33:02guy you know
33:03he f***ed up
33:04some shows for
33:05me in South
33:06America and I
33:07just took it a
33:08little harder and
33:09I shut up.
33:10You're not used.
33:11Yeah.
33:12That started
33:13yesterday?
33:13Yesterday?
33:14Yeah.
33:14Yeah.
33:15Yeah yesterday.
33:16So are you
33:17likely to kick
33:18if you stop?
33:19You're not going
33:19to have a kiss?
33:20It was
33:22tiny.
33:23Yeah.
33:25You want to get
33:26sober?
33:26Of course.
33:30I'm just
33:31I'm worried that
33:32this may not be
33:32the right environment
33:33for you just yet.
33:34No I don't
33:35I don't
33:35I'm good.
33:37What do you
33:38think well?
33:38It just depends
33:39on the duration
33:40which I was
33:41the one day
33:41or just that
33:42one time.
33:43Well that's
33:43bulls**t.
33:44Come on stop.
33:44No I really
33:45I swear to God
33:47I'm my grandmother.
33:48You brought
33:49heroin into
33:49treatment.
33:50That was it.
33:51It was just
33:51a little bit
33:52I didn't even
33:53finish it.
33:54I know but
33:55whatever.
33:55I didn't even
33:56know I had it
33:56in my pocket
33:57put it that way.
33:58Okay.
33:59Yeah.
33:59It was done.
34:00Alright I mean
34:01here's the deal.
34:02I mean this is
34:02this is independent
34:03living you know
34:03what I mean?
34:04I can't watch
34:04over you here.
34:05This is like
34:06you're at your
34:06home.
34:06You're just
34:07at a home
34:07with people
34:07that you can
34:08get some
34:08structure and
34:09support from.
34:10But you're
34:10your own
34:11person and
34:12if you get
34:12kicked out
34:13there ain't
34:13no coming
34:13back.
34:14I don't want
34:14to see you
34:14get kicked
34:14out of you.
34:15I don't either.
34:16Okay.
34:18But I'm
34:18worried about
34:18you right now.
34:19I made a
34:21mistake.
34:21I don't have
34:22myself.
34:22Alright.
34:22And back
34:23out again.
34:25It's not
34:25uncommon for
34:26patients to
34:26show up to
34:27sober living
34:27high but
34:28whether they
34:28stay in
34:29sober living
34:29or go to
34:30a hospital
34:31depends on
34:31how much
34:32they've been
34:32using and
34:33for how long.
34:35Lovely to see
34:36Dr. Drew.
34:36Uh-oh.
34:37Bob.
34:43Keep in mind
34:44this is not a
34:45hospital.
34:45This really is
34:46not my
34:46environment.
34:47That's why I
34:48asked Bob
34:48Forrest to
34:49come over and
34:49help me out.
34:50He knows how
34:50to deal with
34:51these issues
34:51out there in
34:52the real world
34:52in sober
34:53living better
34:53than anybody.
34:54Your eyes
34:55are shining
34:56bright.
34:59Hey Bob.
35:00How are you?
35:01I'm tired.
35:03Stressed.
35:03So what do
35:04you think?
35:04Stephen's high
35:05out of his
35:06mind.
35:06Yeah, Stephen's
35:06high.
35:07So the
35:07question is
35:08he claims
35:09it's using
35:10since this
35:10morning.
35:11He cops
35:11to using
35:12yesterday.
35:12He may or
35:13may not
35:13have a
35:13kick.
35:14He may or
35:14may not
35:15change
35:15drastically
35:16when he's
35:16off the
35:17drugs.
35:18But the
35:18problem is
35:19these two
35:20right out
35:20there in
35:21that
35:21balcony
35:22right now.
35:24That one
35:25girl will
35:26stop talking
35:27about it.
35:28Making
35:28one deal
35:30out of it
35:31necessary.
35:32Repercussions.
35:34F***
35:34yeah.
35:35They suck.
35:37Definitely.
35:38You have
35:39two insane
35:41disease infected
35:41people at this
35:42right moment.
35:43They're going to
35:43feed off each
35:44other.
35:45They're going to
35:45feed off each
35:46other.
35:46I just think
35:47that cracking
35:47the whip now
35:48would establish
35:48at least a
35:49little bit of
35:50consequences.
35:51So we need to
35:52figure out where
35:53he can go
35:54because this is
35:54exceptional
35:55circumstances.
36:02coming up.
36:03You're used to
36:03me being all
36:04over you guys
36:05in a residential
36:05program.
36:06This is not
36:07that.
36:07Don't use
36:08here.
36:09Don't use
36:10here.
36:19Stephen's high
36:19out of his
36:20mind.
36:20Yeah,
36:20Stephen's high.
36:21The report is
36:22using since this
36:23morning.
36:23He cops
36:24using yesterday.
36:25He may or
36:26may not have
36:26a kick.
36:27I personally
36:28don't think
36:28that it's okay
36:29for him to be
36:30here.
36:31So we need to
36:31figure out where
36:32he can go
36:33because this is
36:34exceptional
36:35circumstances.
36:38Does Stephen
36:38go along with
36:39you for a night?
36:42Yeah.
36:44I'll watch him.
36:45That'd be the
36:46next move in my
36:47opinion if he
36:48doesn't stay here
36:48because I don't
36:49think we
36:49accomplished
36:49a thing.
36:50In fact,
36:51that's more
36:51gratifying than
36:52anything else.
36:53And I'll be
36:53back early
36:54in the morning
36:54with Stephen.
36:56All right,
36:56so the plan
36:57then is Stephen
36:58at Will's
36:59for the night.
37:00Got some
37:01Starbucks?
37:03Initially,
37:04I believed
37:05that Stephen
37:05should have
37:06gone to
37:06treatment.
37:07But after
37:07talking to
37:08Dr. Drew
37:08and Bob,
37:09I realized
37:10that Stephen
37:10going home
37:11with Will
37:11would be
37:12the best
37:12thing to do.
37:13That way,
37:14he gets
37:14sober up there
37:15instead of
37:15causing problems
37:16over here.
37:17There's concern
37:18about your
37:18safety tonight.
37:20Okay?
37:20I'm worried.
37:21So what we'd
37:21like to propose
37:22is that you
37:23for the night
37:24go home with
37:25Will and let
37:25him just
37:26watch you
37:26and then we'll
37:27come back
37:27in the morning.
37:28You'll come
37:28to group.
37:29We'll start
37:30a new day.
37:30Come back
37:31in here.
37:31Tomorrow
37:32we'll start
37:32all over again.
37:33Yeah.
37:34All right,
37:34you're good.
37:35All right,
37:36you guys plan
37:36that out.
37:37And this is
37:38good, okay?
37:38So we've got
37:39a month ahead
37:40of us.
37:40A whole month
37:40of treatment
37:41ahead.
37:41All right.
37:42So Stephen
37:42has gone home
37:43with Will
37:43for the night,
37:44but I needed
37:44everyone in the
37:45house to understand
37:46that I can't
37:47come running out
37:47there every time
37:48there's a crisis.
37:49This is their
37:50house.
37:50They need to
37:51manage it.
37:51Wait, we want
37:52to go inside
37:52and talk really
37:53quick.
37:53Everybody.
37:54So I gathered
37:55the group together
37:56to help them
37:56understand that
37:57things were going
37:57to be different
37:58in Sober House
37:58than they were
37:59in rehab.
38:00Okay, guys,
38:01you're used to me
38:02being all over you
38:03guys in a residential
38:03program.
38:04This is not that.
38:06You are living
38:07independently.
38:08This is an
38:09environment where
38:09you decide to
38:10stay sober.
38:11This is your life
38:12you're starting to
38:12lead in an
38:13independent fashion,
38:15and this is the
38:16stepwise entry
38:17into that life.
38:19You got to get
38:19a job.
38:20You got to go
38:20do the things
38:21that you've been
38:22neglecting for a
38:23long time.
38:24And you got to
38:24decide you're
38:25going to do it
38:25sober.
38:26It's time to
38:26make that decision,
38:27make that commitment
38:27and really do it.
38:29Don't use here.
38:31Don't use here.
38:32Okay.
38:35I'm going to leave
38:36right now.
38:36I will see you guys
38:37tomorrow in group.
38:38Great to see you
38:39guys.
38:41It's going to be
38:42some growing pains
38:43as they form a
38:44community here,
38:45and we get
38:45everybody sober
38:46and landed.
38:47This is always the
38:47way it is in
38:48sober living.
38:48Some people are
38:49more ready than
38:49others.
38:49Some people use
38:50driving from a
38:51hospital to a
38:52sober living.
38:52This is typical
38:53stuff.
38:54They've got to
38:55know this is
38:55independent living.
38:56They have to
38:56decide to live
38:57sober and they
38:57have to do it.
39:04Coming up.
39:05If I don't hear
39:05from you in over
39:0624 hours, like...
39:07That's what's
39:08going to happen
39:08if I get out.
39:09That's so cute.
39:10I love that you
39:10guys are setting
39:11the rules.
39:11So why don't you
39:12go by your rules?
39:13These people are
39:13going to eat me
39:14alive.
39:20So did you
39:21actually find that
39:22stuff on Stephen
39:23or was it like in
39:24a bag?
39:25It was on him
39:25and then some of
39:28it was in his
39:29pants he hasn't
39:30worn in 10 years.
39:31But wait, what?
39:32How did he get so
39:33high in the end?
39:34Because he probably
39:35had it.
39:36He had it somewhere
39:36else because, you
39:37know, heroin's
39:38quick acting.
39:39It doesn't hit you
39:40three hours after
39:41someone grabs it.
39:43Boom, you're
39:44going to go out
39:44for 30 minutes,
39:45you know.
39:46Yeah.
39:46And he shoots it.
39:47So he had some
39:48because he got
39:49really high at the
39:50end.
39:51And then he got
39:51sick so I think
39:52he might have
39:52even shot some
39:53more right before
39:55he got sick.
39:56Because the minute
39:57you shoot it,
39:57you get sick like
39:58I think because
39:58he was trying
39:58to grab everything
39:59out, he grabbed
40:00what he could
40:02and used and
40:03then he has a
40:04strike.
40:05He had a strike
40:06already.
40:06Yeah.
40:09Stephen's
40:10behavior tonight
40:10started things off
40:11on a bad note
40:12for everybody.
40:14He deserves
40:15and is getting
40:16a strike.
40:16If he does
40:17one more thing
40:17I can kick him
40:18out at any time.
40:19Yeah, but if you
40:20mess up and then
40:21you come back
40:21and you get it
40:22together in your
40:22service, you should
40:23get another try.
40:24Yeah, but if you
40:24leave for three
40:25days on a three-day
40:25binge, if I don't
40:27hear from you in
40:27over 24 hours,
40:29like...
40:29That's what's
40:29going to happen
40:30if I get out.
40:31That's so cute,
40:31I love that you
40:32guys are setting
40:32the rules.
40:33So why don't you
40:33go by your rules?
40:34That's the same
40:34Because they seem to
40:35work really well
40:35for you, right?
40:36Because you're
40:37here.
40:37Right.
40:38Right?
40:38Okay.
40:38I'm saying they
40:38work well for me,
40:39I'm just saying
40:39you should be able
40:40to mess up once
40:41and come back.
40:42You have three
40:43strikes at this
40:44house, you're out.
40:45I'm trying to
40:46stay here.
40:47My heart's in the
40:48right place,
40:48my head's in the
40:49wrong place.
40:57Okay, it was the
40:58first day and a
40:59miracle.
41:00Today was not
41:01what I expected.
41:02It took me a lot
41:03not to lose it.
41:07It took me a lot
41:07to lose.
41:08It took me a lot
41:19to lose it.
41:21What is it,
41:25I thought in fidelity
41:25and rupees
41:27them.
41:27And I will
41:27say is it
41:27good or
41:27no way
41:36how
41:56You
