00:00journey unlike anything you've seen before for six recovering addicts the safety of rehab is over
00:07you're used to me being all over you guys in a residential program this is not that if you
00:12thought sober living meant no drugs and alcohol think again i have the needles and i have the
00:19heroin i'm still completely changed with heroin i'm in my hideout a secret location if you guys
00:26go to the corner of figueroa and wilshire i will give you further information this isn't rehab
00:34this is real life and what these people have on the line is everything
00:52a little over a year ago we did something that had never been attempted before we explored the
00:58dark side of celebrity what happens when drugs and alcohol mix with fame and fortune watch this one
01:04dude this is why i'm gonna probably die doing this okay i just scratched the itch that was in my
01:12brain thank you he followed several celebrities as they entered a residential drug treatment center
01:17where the hell are we the result was an experience called celebrity rehab that experience revealed
01:23just how hard the road to recovery is you smuggled drugs into the place i said no i did not
01:30take it back
01:33you you you're not a participant you're just like us the joy that comes from a sober life and on
01:40the
01:40sober living i recommend it for you and i recommend it for you and guess what i recommend it for
01:46you
01:47staying sober is a daily battle 93 of all inpatients stay sober then it dips to 10 when they transition
01:55to home so there's an intermediate stage that recovering addicts must get through they do this
02:01by moving into what we call a sober house at sober house addicts have one foot in treatment
02:06and one foot in the real world there will be boundaries and rules we must follow our tours there's
02:13like rules and we'll go through it together there will be chores for them to do they'll be required
02:17to get a job i can offer you ten dollars an hour we will have a curfew each night we're
02:23going to
02:23escort you all right do the show right i know i know the guidelines there's no sex no acting out
02:29violently with each other and of course no drugs or alcohol you need to not drink and not take drugs
02:36and you need to get your together got that that's it that's the bottom line
02:42the sober house is led by jennifer jimenez an accomplished actress who started the movies
02:47vanilla sky and blow she's also a recovering drug addict jen will have a tough job because she has to
02:54enforce the rules and help guide a house full of addicts who are just starting their recovery in the
03:00real world it's not my job to be their babysitter my job is to try and enforce the rules will
03:05who
03:05everybody knows from celebrity rehab is back he's the muscle of the house he backs up jen and keeps
03:11everyone in line bob forrest my head counselor and one of the biggest success stories in recovery himself
03:17will make regular visits to the house and actually run a group there these patients have to get used to
03:23the fact that they are now outpatients they're no longer under my continuous inpatient care but make
03:29no mistake they'll be seeing a lot of me i will be continuously in touch and supervising their care i
03:34will
03:34know if anything is going on in the silver house the stakes are high they'll want to party
03:52sadly they'll often relapse this is a junkie that's paranoid that throws this crap burnt tin foil in a
04:00crack light it's insanity at its greatest they will either slip back into the deadly cycle of
04:09addiction i'm drinking in first class see you soon okay i want to go home now just can't handle it
04:17yeah or they will move forward and enjoy the kind of life that each of them deserves a life that
04:24is
04:24sober i'm doing this for me yeah but most of all you know i owe it to my kids because
04:29they
04:30they haven't had a chance to see me sober
04:44they will grow
04:45i'm so sorry i would just do that they will feel like jumping out of their skin
04:50i'm not so stupid like he thinks i am but ultimately they will come to the realization that they are
04:55entitled to a sober life
05:10it's day one of sober living and the patients are arriving from a month of rehab to check into the
05:16sober living house in the hollywood hills these patients have just completed 21 days of treatment
05:21the past new recovery center they've had a week to return home gather their belongings and see
05:26their loved ones and they are now returning to enroll for 30 days of ongoing care in a sober living
05:32environment here in hollywood so uh here we go i'm gonna check myself into the sober house
05:40it's the next chapter next chapter in the shifty saga you can take the long way over there i'm in
05:47no
05:48hurry i'm nervous man i am nervous i shouldn't be because this is the part where i'm getting my
05:57life together but i am i'm nervous you know
06:03well that it goes from rehab to home they're not going to make it i mean there's very few that
06:07can
06:08you know i guess reality is setting them i don't have discipline i don't have structure i have nothing to
06:13even start with i don't know how to live sober you know i have no idea what i'm doing sober
06:19living is
06:20an environment where people go post rehab to live together with other addicts who are newly sober
06:26support each other and confront each other when you slip up the difference between celebrity rehab
06:32which is a residential treatment center and the sober house is people like me doctors are not around
06:36all the time they're not going to see me all the time and that's a shock for them as they
06:39begin to
06:40get some separation and autonomy the good thing about sober living on like rehab is you're kind
06:44of living in the real world and so i'm hoping that i'll be able to learn how to cope without
06:49using alcohol or drugs man i got dealers over here all i do is think about drinking every second of
06:59every
06:59day i've been sober for you know over 30 days now and i want to make sure that i can
07:06live the lifestyle
07:08that i want to live as far as my music is concerned without being high my drug addiction just started
07:15to skyrocket and i started doing what it took to get money for drugs and i became a high-end
07:22escort you
07:24know the title of one of the 50 sexiest women in the world by maxim magazine was now used to
07:29sell me
07:31so i got 22 days of being sober the fears i have is is relapsing 95 of people doing this
07:42through relapse and i don't want to be one of those 95 who do relapse i want to be able
07:49to say i'm one of the
07:50five percent we do make it and do succeed
08:08the hardest turn in my whole life
08:13amber smith from celebrity rehab 2 is a supermodel with long-term opiate addiction
08:19i started modeling at 15 years old i garnered about 300 international magazine covers and sports
08:26illustrated swimwear issues all the while i was heavily addicted to pills
08:34i've been addicted for 16 years straight i've never been off how'd you find the opiates
08:40my mother's been addicted so she gave them to you
08:42um amber is a severe opiate addict opiate addiction has the highest relapse rate
08:50she has to take her sobriety seriously and be very diligent about establishing a sober life
09:04ambiance
09:05nice to meet you welcome
09:07are you the house mom yes i'm the house manager come in so i battle you
09:12yes you battle me sober living houses are run by a recovering addicts i
09:17have two and a half years in recovery. Nice. Just remember if you need anything, let me know.
09:22Come in, not forever. And my role here is teaching them how to live in a sober experience. You know,
09:28they're not used to this. Yeah, I love that you're already like moaning on that one. Everyone's
09:34going to get chores. We rotate every three days. Addicts aren't too fond of cleaning up after
09:39themselves. Making your beds and cleaning the toilets and, you know, doing everything else that
09:43the real world does. This is a clean house. It's a nice house. Yeah. So we work together as a
09:48family. You know, no one wants their freedom curtailed. I want my independence and I want to
09:53hit life sober, but yet I've never been in sober living. I've been in drug living.
10:07Seth Binzer was on Celebrity Rehab 1. Seth readmitted to Celebrity Rehab 2 after a terrible
10:13relapse and ended up on our roof smoking crack. You know, the last year, you know,
10:17it's definitely been a challenge for me to overcome my dark relationship with that drug.
10:22Seth is a chronic relapsing stimulant addict. For Seth, being so close to Hollywood Boulevard,
10:28the nightclubs, and the environments where he used to score, there is danger just down the hill.
10:33He has very high hopes to rekindle his life as a father, get the trust of his wife, and his
10:39son
10:39remains heartbroken. My fear is that Seth will not address some of these fundamental issues and
10:44he'll go out, he'll relapse again, and my ultimate fear is he will die. I have lots of fears right
10:49now. I mean, I just got like a week or two of sobriety. It's like the disease is still stronger
10:53than me at this point. Like I'm on shaky ground. Every move matters. Seth is a great guy. He's all
11:00fun
11:00in games. But I hope as he walks through the doors of this sober living, he takes his recovery seriously.
11:11What? Come on, let me in. Hi. Hi, little one. How are you? Good to see you. I know Seth,
11:19and I've known him
11:19for a few years, and I know his addiction is really deep. It's at a very serious point. Most of
11:24the people
11:24moving in here have a full 21 days of sobriety. Seth only has a few days. He's pretty deep in
11:30it. No sex
11:31in the house. No using. Man, of course. If you use three times, you're done. Three times? Yeah, I know.
11:37It's a nice little lenient there, but I really wouldn't. I'm going to try not to use at all.
11:42Sober houses have rules. We have to have them. If not, this house is going to go down quick. We
11:48don't have sex,
11:49we don't do drugs, and we don't break the rules. We have something here we call a strike board in
11:54my
11:55office. If they break a rule, they will get a strike. And if they get three strikes, they're out.
12:03Come on, kiddo. I'm going to take it back up.
12:09I don't think Rodney, oh, what a gorgeous. How's it going? Transfer. Is that your room?
12:18Uh-huh. Right here? You want to see it? Because you can.
12:22Whose room is this? That's your room. We get right in there? Yeah.
12:26Okay, do you see how, like, right here, there's this line? Right. All guys, including me, can come in.
12:31Any girl comes in here, it's, like, bound for trouble. Addicts don't do rules very well.
12:38That's not their forte. Addicts will go in any angle and every way and try to change it through
12:44their way. Seth, come out here. You're not supposed to be in there.
12:50It's all pink. We can't even look and say hi. You can look, but you can't go in there ever
12:54again
12:54like that. That line, you can't cross, dude. Okay. Seth was in the house in less than five minutes,
12:59and he was already trying to cross the line. Say, say we pull something off that you didn't see,
13:05right? You know, if you get away with your s**t, it's only going to damage your sobriety.
13:09Well, I'm so talking about just, like, like, hanging, like, like, you know, small. Kissing a girl.
13:14Kissing a girl. Or hanging out with someone, like, when you're in, you're already asleep or something.
13:20See this whole rule book? I'm tight with my boundaries. I know.
13:23And I adore you enough to enforce them. Right. I'm going to ask you now, do you have any drugs?
13:29No, I have no drugs. I'm paraphernalia. Come on, I'm in Hollywood. I can get it all a block
13:33away. Seth does love to play with people. Precious, adorable, smart, intelligent. Seth also
13:40has one of the biggest demons in the world. Coming up. Hi, Steven. Hi. How are you?
13:49Yeah, I haven't even worn those pants in 10 years. Hey, Dr. Drew, it's Jen. I have the needles
13:58and I have the heroin. We have a crisis and we need you. Wow. Before we go into battle here,
14:06are you okay? If I don't feel he needs detox, are you okay with him staying here? No.
14:18Rodney King is here from Celebrity Rehab 2. A witness videotaped the officers beating King
14:24after a high-speed chase. I became infamous because of the beating and the riots. Rodney
14:29is a fantastic candidate to benefit from sober living. You're having down a beer around 11 o'clock,
14:34I mean, you ain't that human. Rodney desperately dreams of moving beyond the past, moving away from
14:39what the perception of him is in the headline. He wants to be who he is, a human being. He
14:45wants to
14:46stay sober, wake up every day sober, enjoy his family, and just be the gentleman that he actually
14:52is. Hi, how are you? Oh, pretty good, thanks. I'm Jennifer. Jennifer, I'm Rodney. Hey, Rodney,
14:58come in, bring your bag in. All right. Cool, I'm so excited, your hair. It's nice and cool in here.
15:03I know,
15:04it's nice. When I walked into the place, it just felt like, you know, okay, you've got another shot at
15:11this, and this is like my last shot. Have you done this before? I've done a lot of these before.
15:19Yeah. But I'm trying to make sure that this one is the last one I'll have to do. Yeah. This
15:24one
15:24here, not court-ordered or nothing like that. That's a blast. I'm doing this for me. You know,
15:29I owe it to myself, but most of all, you know, I owe it to my kids because they haven't
15:35had a chance
15:35to see me sober. With Rodney, things aren't always what you expect they're going to be,
15:40and I really believe that there's an ability of Rodney to just come out on top here.
15:46Welcome. Oh, thanks. Welcome home. I'm really excited for you. All right. Thanks.
15:58Nikki McKibben, American Idol contestant. Let's go to Rehab 2.
16:05I got back home from American Idol and started doing a lot of cocaine. My mother showed me how
16:10to do that. This is a pivotal year in Nikki's life. With the one-year anniversary of her mother's
16:15death approaching while she is living in the sober house, this will be a watershed month for her.
16:20This is a chance to get used to being a sober person in the world. Nikki, in addition, has the
16:26stress of being concerned about and worried about her children who are thousands of miles away,
16:31while she focuses on her own sobriety.
16:34We don't need this in here. We really try to... I'm going to enforce that. Like, that is a must.
16:39Like, I've known a couple people recently that just died from that. One mom died from drug and
16:43alcohol. Oh, really?
16:44A year ago. Oh, sorry. Yeah. So the one-year anniversary of her death is going to be while I'm
16:49in here.
16:50So that may be a really hard day for me.
16:52And we will walk you through it. Okay.
16:54I know this is going to be a really emotional time for Nikki. I am here to help her in
16:59any way she needs.
17:06Hi, Mary.
17:09Mary Carey has joined us from Season 1, Celebrity Rehab.
17:12After Season 1, Mary Carey did enroll in sober living, however, for only a very short period of time.
17:17Since then, she has struggled with her sobriety, and I have wanted her to re-enroll in sober living.
17:22As a result, I invited her to join this patient group for 30 days of sober living.
17:27It's time she got serious about her sobriety.
17:32There's some sex toys in that bag.
17:35I know Mary for some time now. A lot of Mary's fame has been this girl, this, you know, whole
17:42character.
17:43And really, like, you get to spend five minutes with Mary, you will fall in love with the real Mary.
17:48Like, there's this tender, sweet soul.
17:51Hi!
17:52You're not there again!
17:54How are you?
17:55How are you?
17:56Oh, my God, how are you?
17:57I've been to you forever.
17:58I know, it's been fun!
17:59I'm going to see a room for you.
18:00Yeah, I sit in your bed.
18:01Yeah, you can.
18:03One of the fascinating struggles to watch is to see her as Mary Ellen, this young woman,
18:07versus Mary Carey, who is this character she's created for herself,
18:11and how she struggles with those two personas, and how that's going to happen remains to be seen.
18:15I'm so glad you're doing this.
18:17I'm so glad you're trying.
18:18You know what I mean? Like, it's huge.
18:20And you look gorgeous.
18:21That's what it is.
18:31All right, here we go.
18:44Coming up, just got a call from Jan at the sober house,
18:47and Stephen Adler showed up with heroin, with syringes, probably loaded.
18:51Stephen is going to die if this doesn't stop.
18:54Wow.
18:55Yeah.
18:57Yeah!
18:58Yeah!
19:08All right, here we go.
19:10Oh, my God.
19:20Stephen Adler from Celebrity Rehab 2 is in a sober house,
19:22and Guns N' Roses invented sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
19:27And if you want to know where that takes you,
19:29Stephen Adler is the poster child for that.
19:34Stephen Adler gave Shelly and me and Bob a very difficult time in treatment.
19:38He has an extreme problem with authority.
19:41Jen will definitely have her hands full being an authority figure to Stephen.
19:44In many ways, he's just still like an 11-year-old and really rebels against all authority.
19:49For Stephen, so many people in his life have really had it with his disease,
19:53and if he is not able to sustain sobriety,
19:55I'm not sure many of the people in his life would have him back.
20:06Hi, Stephen.
20:07Hi.
20:08How are you?
20:08How are you?
20:09Good.
20:10How are you?
20:10Oh, my God.
20:11I'm so nervous and excited.
20:20Yeah?
20:20Yeah.
20:21The minute Stephen walked in, I knew he was high instantly.
20:25Addicts have a six cents.
20:27You know if somebody's high or is it drunk.
20:29You just do.
20:31Yeah.
20:31This is the kitchen.
20:33Oh.
20:34Everyone's going to be assigned every three days.
20:36You'll switch.
20:37Okay.
20:37All right?
20:38So, like each person will get one day.
20:40Say you'll get clean kitchen.
20:41This is my house.
20:42I want it to remain like this.
20:43My house?
20:44It's your house, too.
20:46I want to do it.
20:46It's our house.
20:47Exactly.
20:48And we respect those down doors, which is great.
20:50I know.
20:51You don't have to talk to me like I'm five years old.
20:52I'm not talking to you like you're five.
20:54Yeah, you are.
20:55Stephen's emotions were, like, so up and down.
20:58One minute he was sweet.
20:59The next minute he was snotty.
21:01The minute after that he was kind of loving.
21:03There's way too many things going on with Stephen that I don't find stable.
21:07So, I'm going to go through your bags, if you don't mind.
21:09Go on.
21:09I'm just going to stay out for you.
21:10The first thing I have to do is search their bags once they get into the house.
21:14And I am praying to God that there is no drugs or alcohol, because it would be so disappointing
21:20if there was the first day in.
21:22There's that.
21:23I said, I don't know.
21:25I don't know.
21:26Oh, ****.
21:27Don't take that.
21:27I didn't know I even had that.
21:31Don't take that yet.
21:32Don't take that yet.
21:32We're just jealous.
21:34The first thing I grab is a pair of pants.
21:37And I get needles.
21:41****.
21:42I didn't even know that was it, because I didn't want those.
21:44Let me check.
21:44There's a good one.
21:45I mean, don't show it on the cameras.
21:47Okay.
21:48I want the cameras to check it.
21:51Yeah, I haven't even worn those pants in 10 years.
21:56It's day one in Silver Living, and there's needles in my hands.
22:01I've got to search you really quick, kid.
22:09Let's just go.
22:11Have you used it?
22:13No.
22:13I took my test every time.
22:15Okay.
22:15I knew we had a big problem, and the one thing I needed to do immediately was call Will.
22:20And I needed to do this calmly in order not to rile up Stephen anymore than he already was.
22:26Hey, Will.
22:28Hey, it's Jen.
22:29How are you?
22:31Can you do me a favor?
22:32Would you come over here?
22:34Yeah.
22:36Yeah.
22:37Yeah.
22:39It was like...
22:52Hey, Jen.
22:55I was hoping we were going to get through the first date without any trouble.
23:00The minute I walked in and saw Stephen, I knew something was wrong.
23:03Hi, Jen.
23:04How are you?
23:05I need to talk to you for a second.
23:07All right.
23:07Do you want to go to your room?
23:08Uh, yeah.
23:09Okay.
23:12Okay.
23:13He's high as a kite.
23:14I know he is.
23:14I saw that.
23:15He's high as a kite.
23:16I don't know where this is from.
23:18And needles.
23:19I was showing you one.
23:20I need you to please immediately test them.
23:22Hold on.
23:23This one sees.
23:24They've been used.
23:25When he saw those, before I even pulled them out, he said, oh my God, oh my God, I haven't
23:29even worn these pants in 10 years.
23:30I can't believe they're here.
23:31Yeah, right.
23:32Yeah.
23:33His eyes are so pannington.
23:34No, I saw it right when I looked at him.
23:36I was so disappointed and hurt.
23:37Because I just saw him three days ago.
23:39I know.
23:40He relapsed to that.
23:40He looked terrific.
23:43Well, these are new.
23:45But nobody brings needles in if they don't have dope.
23:47Yeah.
23:48So it's on him somewhere.
23:49I just don't know if it's in his shoes.
23:50I checked all this on.
23:53Oh, there's heroin.
23:54That's when I said it was gone.
23:55He was smoking it.
23:57That was a hit.
23:58That's heroin when I was smoking.
24:00Smell it.
24:01Smell it?
24:02It's heroin.
24:03You know, I'm going to go through all this stuff, but I want to search him first.
24:05Because if he's got it on him, I'm sure I don't want him to hide it somewhere.
24:08And needles are not my favorite thing in the world.
24:11I've had a boyfriend die of an overdose.
24:14And smelling and holding it in my hand and stuff.
24:16And it was just really intense.
24:21It's Dr. Stipper.
24:23What's happening like that too, brother?
24:25What's up?
24:26He's good at you.
24:27Yeah, man.
24:33Are you all right?
24:34It's all right.
24:36Mm-hmm.
24:36Uh-oh.
24:37You're not doing it from the rooms.
24:39All right.
24:40Steve.
24:41The room situation.
24:42That's it.
24:43I'm going to talk to you.
24:44All right.
24:44All right, buddy.
24:47The strip search.
24:48Did you use today?
24:50Not today.
24:51Don't be there.
24:51Okay.
24:52One time.
24:53I know.
24:54I know.
24:55But that one time, you know what that does to yourself.
24:57Well, check this out.
24:59I'm going to have to go through your stuff.
25:00If you have any shit in there, give it to me.
25:03I don't want to find something.
25:04Because you're my friend.
25:05I'm telling you that's true.
25:07Here.
25:09Here's this done.
25:10Don't tell anybody.
25:11All right.
25:11Come on.
25:12Hey, it's Will.
25:13All right.
25:14I did a strip search with Steven.
25:16And sure enough, there was another tinfoil caked with heroin.
25:21Now the whole house is unsafe until Jen and I can establish it.
25:25There are no other drugs and we can search the premises.
25:29Is that you, Jen?
25:32Is that you, Jen?
25:33Yeah, I found another foil.
25:35Something else on there.
25:37And it's top project.
25:38Did you test him?
25:40No.
25:41He can't piss.
25:42I did a strip search.
25:43Can't pee.
25:44I just didn't appear on there.
25:45And get him away from the rest of the group and have him in the room and tell him what
25:49happened.
25:50Like, there's no tolerance for that.
25:52There is.
25:54What?
25:54It's barely something.
26:04I'm just joking.
26:09Hey, Will, we need to get through.
26:11Is there any way I can get some Tylenol or some aspirin?
26:14Can you do me a favor, though, until I get done with this?
26:16Yeah, go ahead.
26:17Just stay clear just for a minute.
26:19Yeah.
26:19When I first saw Steven, it looked like he had overtook a little bit too much or something.
26:25Maybe it's medicine or something.
26:29Most addicts don't have just one stash.
26:31We found that one.
26:32They have multiple stashes.
26:34Socks.
26:35I loved using socks.
26:36That's why I used to always put my s*** in my socks.
26:41Oh, yeah.
26:42And my, do we have a lot of socks.
26:46Oh, yeah.
26:49I'm going to have a...
26:50I'm going to have a...
26:51I'm going to have a...
26:52I'm going to have one of the...
26:52Yeah, the old 4-handed sock diversion.
26:56I didn't remember this one.
26:58I'm thinking you all will get tired by the 390th day.
27:02One of the things I try not to do is call Dr. Drew unless it's an absolute emergency.
27:08But it's only day one, and I have a guy here wasted on heroin.
27:12I really had no choice at that point.
27:15Hey, Dr. Drew, it's Jed.
27:17Steven Adler's high as a kite, and I found needles in his pocket, and there's residue and heroin.
27:28I have the needles, and I have the heroin.
27:32We have a crisis, and we need you.
27:48Just got a call from Jed at the sober house, and Steven Adler showed up with heroin, with syringes, probably
27:54loaded.
27:56Boy, he just left us.
27:58He had just went out into the world with a good attitude, doing well, and here we are now using
28:04it again.
28:04And then with him knowing we were going to check, I'm dying to know what he was thinking.
28:09Steven is going to die if this doesn't stop.
28:11It's just very simple.
28:14Jed and I were trying to deal with Steven as quietly as possible.
28:18We didn't want everybody in the house to know that he was on drugs.
28:21But you could tell, it was starting to spread through the house.
28:25F*** that stomach hurts.
28:32So, when I was in the house, well?
28:36He's throwing up.
28:37Yeah.
28:38He's throwing up.
28:39You need anything?
28:40No.
28:42He didn't drink that s***.
28:44I was making my stomach hurt.
28:46As time passed, Steven was starting to become sicker and sicker from the heroin.
28:55You're a narcissist?
29:01There we go.
29:04Oh, man.
29:10You're okay?
29:12Yeah.
29:14Yeah.
29:25No more acid, he drinks.
29:28You all right?
29:29Yeah, I just got rid of it finally.
29:32You okay?
29:34Damn it, yeah.
29:36He had some s***.
29:38He hit it.
29:40After he found out I got in trouble, I busted, I did some s***.
29:44He probably went and finished whatever s*** he had.
29:47He didn't shoot it.
29:48I think he probably had to eat it.
29:50You think he ate them?
29:50Or he's a type that would eat it?
29:52You do whatever you need to, apparently.
29:54He came in here with some rigs.
29:55Totally.
29:56What was that?
29:57Needles.
29:58Oh, okay.
29:59Yeah.
30:00That's what Jen was saying.
30:01He came in here back and she was like, whoa.
30:04He's a good addict.
30:06Yeah.
30:06He had everything he needed.
30:10Drew pulling up in the driveway was one of the greatest sights in the whole world.
30:15For me to be at that house, things had to be really bad.
30:18And so there I was, and indeed things were really bad.
30:22Did you talk to Steven on his head?
30:23No, not yet.
30:24What does he say about what you found?
30:26Oh, when he found the needles.
30:27After we talked on the phone, did you talk to him again or no?
30:29When he saw that, when I was pulling everything out, he was pulling everything for me out really fast.
30:34So he saw that you saw?
30:36Yeah, and then he goes, oh my God, don't show the camera, don't show the camera.
30:39And I saw it was needles.
30:40Of course.
30:41He said, oh, these pants are 10 years old.
30:43I haven't worn them in 10 years.
30:44Okay.
30:45So let's get our head around the situation.
30:47Before we go into battle here, are you okay if I don't feel he needs detox and if we feel
30:52that Will has adequately searched him for drugs, are you okay with him staying here?
31:00No.
31:04Coming up.
31:05That one girl, stop talking about it.
31:08Repercussions, they suck.
31:10You want to get sober?
31:12Of course.
31:20So let's get our head around the situation.
31:23He's been using since this morning.
31:25Or yesterday.
31:25Are you, let's just, before we go into battle here, are you okay if I don't feel he needs detox
31:31and if we feel that Will has adequately searched him for drugs, are you okay with him staying here?
31:34No.
31:35One of the interesting parts of being a treatment team that treats addicts is we disagree amongst ourselves.
31:40We can have differing ideas about how a certain situation ought to be approached, but we share our ideas with
31:45each other and reach a consensus.
31:46This is sober living.
31:47It's their life.
31:48They've got to decide to live it sober.
31:50We've got to get started somewhere.
31:52Because it's just day one, it's a hard call to send Stephen to the hospital.
31:56He only used once.
31:57He doesn't really need detox.
31:58And yet here he is in the house, intoxicated, having used in the house.
32:03So understandably, Jen wants him out.
32:05From my standpoint, if we find things on him, we get rid of them, on we go.
32:09I just think that coming in here and being high already coming in here happens all the time.
32:13You'd be surprised.
32:14Well, where do you find that line?
32:16You know what I mean?
32:16Like, Stephen was walking into a sober living house with drugs.
32:21Yes, it happened.
32:22I'm supposed to protect these people.
32:24How am I supposed to do my job?
32:28Are we going to help him or not?
32:30I think treatment would help him.
32:32He's been through through a mold.
32:36Before we really do the final assault, let's just go see what's going on with Stephen, what he tells us.
32:40Okay, so do you want to bring him in here?
32:41Yeah, bring him in here.
32:42Bring him in.
32:44Stephen, can you come in here, please?
32:59What's going on?
33:00I had some problems with that manager guy, you know?
33:03He f***ed up some shows for me in South America.
33:07Just took it a little harder and I shut up.
33:10You're not used.
33:11Yeah.
33:12That started yesterday?
33:14Yeah, yeah.
33:15Yeah, yesterday.
33:16Yesterday.
33:16So are you likely to kick if you stop?
33:19No, no, no.
33:19You're not going to have a kiss.
33:20It was tiny.
33:23Yeah.
33:25You want to get sober?
33:26Of course.
33:30I'm just, I'm worried that this may not be the right environment for you just yet.
33:34No, no, no.
33:35I'm great.
33:37What do you think, Will?
33:39It just depends on the duration.
33:41One day or just that one time.
33:43Well, that's bulls**t.
33:44Come on, stop it.
33:44No, I really aren't.
33:45Let's even...
33:46I swear to God, I'm my grandmother.
33:48You brought heroin into treatment.
33:50That was it.
33:51It was just a little bit...
33:52Whatever.
33:53I didn't even finish it.
33:54I know, but whatever.
33:55I didn't even know I had it in my pocket.
33:57Really?
33:58Okay.
33:58Yeah, we're just done.
34:00All right, I mean, here's the deal.
34:02I mean, this is independent living, you know what I mean?
34:04I can't watch over you here.
34:05This is like you're at your home.
34:07You're just at a home with people that you can get some structure and support from.
34:10But you're your own person.
34:11And if you get kicked out, there ain't no coming back.
34:14I don't want you to get kicked out of the week.
34:15I don't either.
34:16Okay.
34:18But I'm worried about you right now.
34:19I made a mistake.
34:21I don't hurt myself.
34:22All right.
34:22All right.
34:22And back out again.
34:24It's not uncommon for patients to show up to sober living high.
34:28But whether they stay in sober living or go to a hospital depends on how much they've been using and
34:33for how long.
34:43Keep in mind, this is not a hospital.
34:45This really is not my environment.
34:47That's why I asked Bob Forrest to come over and help me out.
34:49He knows how to deal with these issues out there in the real world in sober living better than anybody.
34:54Your eyes are shining bright.
34:56I know.
34:58T-shirt Samuelsman.
34:59Hey, Bob.
35:00How are you?
35:01I'm tired.
35:03Stressed.
35:03So what do you think?
35:05Steven's high out of his mind.
35:06Yeah, Steven's high.
35:07So the question is, he claims it's using since this morning.
35:11He cops are using yesterday.
35:12He may or may not have a kick.
35:14He may or may not change drastically when he's off the drugs.
35:18But the problem is these two, right out there in that balcony right now.
35:24Man, someone's girl will stop talking about it.
35:28Making one deal out of it necessary.
35:32The repercussions.
35:34F*** yeah.
35:35They suck.
35:37Definitely.
35:38You have two, like, insane disease-infected people at this right moment.
35:43Because we're going to feed off each other.
35:45We're going to feed off each other.
35:46I just think that cracking the whip now would establish at least a little bit of consequences.
35:51So we need to figure out where he can go.
35:54Because this is exceptional circumstances.
36:02Coming up.
36:03You're used to me being all over you guys in a residential program.
36:06This is not that.
36:07Don't use here.
36:09Don't use here.
36:19Steven's high out of his mind.
36:20Yeah, Steven's high.
36:21The report is using since this morning.
36:23He cops are using yesterday.
36:25He may or may not have a kick.
36:27I personally don't think that it's okay for him to be here.
36:30So we need to figure out where he can go.
36:33Because this is exceptional circumstances.
36:38Steven go home with you for a minute.
36:42Yeah.
36:44I'll watch him.
36:45That'd be the next move, in my opinion, if he doesn't stay here.
36:49Because I don't think we accomplished a **** thing.
36:50In fact, that's more gratifying than anything else.
36:53And I'll be back early in the morning with Steven.
36:56All right, so the plan then is Steven at Will's for the night.
37:00Got some Starbucks?
37:03Initially, I believed that Steven should have gone to treatment.
37:07But after talking to Dr. Drew and Bob,
37:09I realized that Steven going home with Will would be the best thing to do.
37:13That way, he gets sober up there instead of causing problems over here.
37:17There's concern about your safety tonight, okay?
37:20I'm one.
37:20So what we'd like to propose is that you, for the night,
37:24go home with Will and let him just watch you.
37:27And then we'll come back in the morning.
37:28You'll come to group.
37:29We'll start a new day.
37:30Come back in here.
37:31Tomorrow we'll start all over again.
37:33Yeah.
37:34All right, you do it.
37:35All right, you guys plan that out.
37:36And this is good, okay?
37:38So we've got a month ahead of us.
37:40A whole month of treatment ahead.
37:41All right.
37:42So Steven has gone home with Will for the night.
37:44But I needed everyone in the house to understand
37:46that I can't come running out there every time there's a crisis.
37:49This is their house.
37:50They need to manage it.
37:51Wait, we want to go inside and talk really quick.
37:53Who?
37:53Everybody.
37:54So I gathered the group together to help them understand
37:57that things were going to be different in sober house
37:59than they were in rehab.
38:00Okay, guys.
38:01You're used to me being all over you guys in a residential program.
38:04This is not that.
38:06You are living independently.
38:08This is an environment where you decide to stay sober.
38:11This is your life you're starting to lead
38:13in an independent fashion.
38:15And this is the stepwise entry into that life.
38:19You've got to get a job.
38:20You've got to go do the things that you've been neglecting for a long time.
38:24And you've got to decide you're going to do it sober.
38:26It's time to make that decision, make that commitment, and really do it.
38:29Don't use here.
38:31Don't use here.
38:32Okay.
38:35I'm going to leave right now.
38:36I will see you guys tomorrow in group.
38:38All right.
38:38It's great to see you, too.
38:39It's great to see you guys.
38:40I love you.
38:40I'll see you soon.
38:41All right.
38:41It's going to be some growing pains as they form a community here
38:45and we get everybody sober and landed.
38:47This is always the way it is in sober living.
38:48Some people are more ready than others.
38:49Some people use driving from a hospital to a sober living.
38:52This is typical stuff.
38:54They've got to know this is independent living.
38:56They have to decide to live sober, and they have to do it.
39:03Coming up.
39:04If I don't hear from you in over 24 hours, like...
39:07That's what's going to happen if I get out.
39:09That's so cute.
39:10I love that you guys are setting the rules.
39:11So why don't you go by your rules?
39:13These people are going to eat me alive.
39:15Shit.
39:20So did you actually find that stuff on Steven, or was it like in a bag?
39:24It was on him.
39:25And then some of it was in his pants he hasn't worn in 10 years.
39:31But wait, how did he get so high in the end?
39:34Because he probably had it.
39:36He had it somewhere else because, you know, heroin's quick acting.
39:39It doesn't hit you three hours after someone grabs it.
39:43Boom.
39:43You're going to go out for 30 minutes, you know.
39:46Yeah.
39:46And he shoots it.
39:47So he had some because he got really high at the end.
39:51And then he got sick, so I think he might have even shot some more.
39:54Right before he got sick.
39:56Because the minute you shoot it, you get sick like that.
39:58I think because he was trying to grab everything out.
40:00He had grabbed what he could.
40:02Yeah.
40:02And used, and then he has a strike.
40:05Yeah.
40:05He had a strike already.
40:06He's done.
40:09Steven's behavior tonight started things off on a bad note for everybody.
40:14He deserves and is getting a strike.
40:16If he does one more thing, I can kick him out at any time.
40:19Yeah, but if you mess up and then you come back and you get it together in your service,
40:22you should get another try.
40:23Yeah, but if you leave for three days on a three-day binge, if I don't hear from you
40:27in over 24 hours, like...
40:29That's what's going to happen if I get out at two.
40:31That's so cute.
40:31I love that you guys are setting the rules.
40:33So why don't you go by your rules?
40:34That's the same rule.
40:34Because they seem to work really well for you, right?
40:36Because you're here.
40:37Right.
40:38Right?
40:38Okay.
40:38I'm saying they work well for me.
40:39I'm just saying you should be able to mess up once and come back.
40:42You have three strikes at this house.
40:44You're out.
40:45I'm trying to stay here.
40:47My heart's in the right place.
40:48My head's in the wrong place.
40:57Today was the first day.
40:59And a miracle.
41:00Today was not what I expected.
41:02It took me a lot not to lose it.
41:18It took me a lot to lose it.
41:18Again, I believe that,
41:23once I've taken a deal with the defeat fyrus,
41:24okay?
41:24Very...
41:26It took me a lot to lose of the guilt.
41:28I, it took me a lot to lose it.
41:53You
