00:05There's been some talk about a Nick of Time reboot.
00:07It's easy money.
00:09I'm done with that part of my life, you know?
00:11Do you think I'll still make it to our baby's delivery?
00:14I do.
00:14Oh my God, the baby's kicking.
00:16It's really happening, isn't it?
00:18We're gonna have a baby girl.
00:21What do you want?
00:22We just want to see...
00:24Secondary progressive MS.
00:26Parents stole a lot of money from me.
00:27Maybe it's just too much water under that bridge.
00:30What are you doing here?
00:32Still looking for company on that trip to Brandywine Falls?
00:35Are you guys ready?
00:39La la la la la la la la la la la la.
00:42Ninety-nine bottles of beer.
00:45Sorry, I'm stuck in my head.
00:49Here, take one down, you're passing around.
00:52Ninety-eight bottles of beer on the wall.
00:55Oh, I know you could sing.
00:57Yeah, don't tell anybody.
01:01Sharon?
01:02Hey, Dean.
01:03Morning.
01:03Daniel, I wanted to go over the admission sheets for the psych floor,
01:07and I also thought I'd be nice and grab you a coffee,
01:10but it looks like you beat me to the punch.
01:12Don't you worry about it for a second.
01:14This one's finished.
01:15That's so nice of you.
01:16Long night?
01:17You know, I started to volunteer at a suicide hotline a few weeks ago,
01:22and my shift ended at 2 a.m., but I'm fine.
01:25Hey, I'm actually having dinner with Howie tonight.
01:27Yeah?
01:28Learning the candle at both ends.
01:29Those hotlines can be emotionally draining, yeah?
01:33Sure, but after that little scare with Anna last year,
01:37I've just got this knot in my chest every now and then,
01:41and being the guy on the other end of the line, I don't know, kind of helps.
01:45Dr. Archer, got an EMS call that might require several sets of hands.
01:49Okay, let's go.
01:52Let me guess. Acupuncture?
01:54Yeah. Gail Spinner, 43.
01:56She was mid-session when she fell off the table and onto her back.
01:59How you doing, Gail?
02:00You ever been in pain in 500 goddamn places at the same time?
02:05Ready, on my count.
02:07Holy pincushion Batman.
02:09Let's be extra gentle here, please.
02:11Ready, one, two, three.
02:12Oh, I was on the table, and I just...
02:15I had to spasm.
02:17I think the technician put a needle in the wrong spot or something,
02:19and I just seized up and tilted over onto the floor,
02:22and now I look like a damn porcupine.
02:25Let's get pickups and hemostats.
02:26Yeah, and also, uh, give me four milligrams of morphine, please.
02:30Okay, easy there, Tiger. I don't like taking pain meds.
02:32It's just, this might be an arduous process.
02:34You may want something to manage the discomfort.
02:36Except it makes me constipated.
02:39Like, like bad.
02:40Like, like an old cement mixer.
02:43You're very graphic.
02:44You're fine.
02:45It's your call, but we can give you something to help with the constipation.
02:50What do you say, Chuck?
02:52Should we let him fill me with painkillers?
02:56Read that for me, sweetie.
02:58Oh, you may rely on it.
03:00All right.
03:01Let's go. Load him in.
03:04All right, yeah, let's give her the morphine and 100 Colace,
03:06and you may want to loop Dr. Charles into this.
03:23Hey, thank you for meeting us out here in the cold.
03:25Okay, thank you.
03:26RV's a little big to get in by the ED.
03:28I live to serve.
03:29Lose you, Dad.
03:29How we doing here, family?
03:31Well, we were on a weekend trip to Cuyahoga Valley.
03:34Which we should still be on.
03:35Dad took a little fall, twisted his ankle.
03:37Damn black ice.
03:39Figured with the MS and all, we should be safe.
03:41Come back early, get an x-ray.
03:42Not broken.
03:43I know what it feels like to break a bone.
03:45James, stop acting like a cowboy.
03:47Sit.
03:47Take a load off, Mr. Frost.
03:49Yeah.
03:50Hell no.
03:50Oh, James.
03:51Dad.
03:52You all right?
03:56You know, I didn't really peg you as the outdoorsy type.
03:59I got layers.
04:01Huh.
04:01Out of curiosity, what type did you peg me as, though?
04:04I don't know.
04:05Kind of like a guy who might be familiar with moisturizer.
04:09True.
04:11This is great.
04:13I can hardly feel anything now.
04:20Oh, I'll be back in a second.
04:22Hey, what's going on, Jeremy?
04:25Oh, we're not here for me this time.
04:27I'm supposed to be induced next week, but my water broke.
04:31Oh, that's exciting.
04:35Dr. Asher?
04:36Yep.
04:38Hey, you two.
04:39Everything okay?
04:39Esme was saying that her water broke this morning.
04:42I've been trying to reach my OB,
04:44but her office hasn't connected,
04:46and I wasn't sure where to go, so...
04:49And we're used to coming here.
04:51Totally get it, and I am happy to get you sorted.
04:54Let's get you up to L&D and into a bed,
04:56and your OB is Dr. Rebecca Brown, right?
04:59Yeah.
04:59Work with her a little.
05:00She's great.
05:02Uh, one of my patients is looking a little rough,
05:04so I'm going to have it checked out.
05:06You got this?
05:07Yeah, sure thing.
05:08Hope it goes okay upstairs.
05:09All right.
05:16Outlook not so good.
05:31Ah, that hurts a little.
05:33Sorry.
05:34What happened to the man who refused a wheelchair?
05:37It'll be just a second.
05:39You're doing great.
05:40I like you.
05:43X-ray out.
05:45Thanks, Mike.
05:47Okay.
05:48All right, we got a hairline fracture.
05:50You have a small break in your ankle and some swelling.
05:53You'll have a walking cast for a few weeks,
05:55but it should be fine.
05:57You know, if you like Sudoku,
05:58the Tribune has a word version called Word Monster
06:00that's so great.
06:01I play Word Monster every day.
06:04A beautiful doctor who likes puzzles.
06:06Are you single?
06:07Ah.
06:09I'm not, actually,
06:10but I'll go get that walking boot.
06:14What?
06:16Nice that you got them a room together.
06:19Well, he didn't want to leave his wife
06:20and given his state,
06:22staying in a wheelchair wasn't a long-term solution.
06:25How's he looking?
06:27Not good.
06:28His blood pressure's dropping,
06:31increased ascites,
06:32he's stagibnic.
06:33Yeah, the end's coming quickly.
06:37Have you told him how long he has?
06:39I didn't need to.
06:40He's putting on a brave face for his wife,
06:42but he knows.
06:46Hey, I'll come by after my rounds.
06:48Okay.
06:55So there are three things to consider with a job.
06:58Quality of life,
07:00salary,
07:00and passion for the work.
07:02That said,
07:03this is your first job,
07:04so you're probably not getting any of those,
07:06but that's okay,
07:07because you can go out,
07:08get drunk with your coworkers,
07:09talk smack about your boss.
07:11Jeremy!
07:12Kidding.
07:13I'm not kidding.
07:15But you're going to do great,
07:17because you're amazing,
07:19and I love you.
07:22Let's get that back on you.
07:27So what the,
07:28what exactly was that?
07:31Jeremy's been recording videos the past couple months for their daughter to watch at different points in her life.
07:35This one was her first day of work at a real job,
07:39but I've also done first day of kindergarten,
07:42teaching her how to drive.
07:43That did not go well.
07:46I know I'm going to be missing all the milestones,
07:48but,
07:50I figured I'd pass on a little fatherly advice.
07:54What's that?
07:56That is the baby's heart rate monitor.
07:57Is something wrong?
07:58The heart rate's dipping,
07:59but that can happen,
08:00so I need you to turn onto your side,
08:02okay?
08:03Here we go.
08:05Okay,
08:05there we go.
08:06We just needed to change positions.
08:08She,
08:08she's okay now?
08:09Yeah,
08:09sometimes the heart rate drops when the umbilical cord gets compressed,
08:12so we'll keep an eye on it,
08:13but nothing to worry about just yet.
08:26Gail,
08:26I'm Dr. Charles.
08:27I was hoping that we could have a little chat.
08:28Is now a good time?
08:29I've already missed Price is Right,
08:31so why the hell not?
08:32Want to buy a sit?
08:33Please.
08:37So,
08:39what is it that you would like to discuss with me?
08:42Well,
08:42I gotta be honest,
08:43my curiosity is it's thoroughly piqued by your magic eight ball.
08:47Chuck.
08:48Oh,
08:49there's a name.
08:50Yeah,
08:50it was the only thing I can trust,
08:51so I figured you deserved a name.
08:54Do you mind?
08:54Please.
08:56I used to love these things when I was a kid.
08:59So,
08:59Chuck helps you make all your decisions?
09:02Nope.
09:03Just the ones involving other people.
09:06Why's that?
09:07Well,
09:07they can't be trusted.
09:09Look,
09:09I know people think I'm out to lunch,
09:11making these big decisions based on a child's toy.
09:14It's just that
09:16people don't see things the way they are.
09:20They weigh their options,
09:22do research,
09:23consult with their friends and family,
09:25and still,
09:26they almost exclusively make the wrong decision.
09:30With Chuck here,
09:32I leave it up to the universe.
09:34There's no,
09:34there's no lies,
09:36there's no misintentions,
09:38no stress,
09:40just
09:42fate.
09:44I've got to say,
09:45you're making a pretty good case for Chuck.
09:49And yet,
09:50I mean,
09:51he did,
09:52I assume,
09:53help lead you to your acupuncture adventure?
09:56Yeah,
09:56but the crazy thing is,
09:57the only reason why I tried that in the first place is to fix my back.
10:00It's been so stiff lately.
10:01Yeah,
10:02it says in your chart that it was a back spasm that made you fall off the table.
10:06Can you tell me a little bit more about that?
10:07I mean,
10:07the spasm specifically?
10:09It's like if you're half asleep and you have a nightmare,
10:12but you jump in real life.
10:14Yeah.
10:15Okay.
10:18Does it mean something to you?
10:20I don't know.
10:21It might.
10:23It might.
10:25Hey,
10:27so I was just in with Gail Spinner,
10:29you know,
10:30and I'm looking over her chart,
10:31the stiffness,
10:33sudden onset of these myoclonic jerks.
10:35I think we might be looking at a neurological issue.
10:37So I want to do a couple of tests.
10:39I don't know.
10:40FMRI,
10:41maybe,
10:42maybe an evoke potential.
10:43Is Chuck on board with that plan?
10:45Oh,
10:46silly me.
10:47Yeah.
10:50Reply hazy,
10:51ask again later.
10:52I'm sorry.
10:53I'll put it back to you on that one.
10:55Hey,
10:56Doris.
10:56I realize that you still owe my dad's insurance card.
10:59Oh,
10:59yeah.
10:59Sorry,
11:00I'll grab it.
11:00Cool.
11:01Thanks.
11:04So,
11:05a boyfriend,
11:06huh?
11:07Well,
11:07I wouldn't say that.
11:08What would you say?
11:10That I met a guy,
11:11we had a few dates,
11:12but so far,
11:13no red flags.
11:15Okay.
11:16All right.
11:17Just out of curiosity,
11:18what would a red flag look like to you?
11:21The usual,
11:22I guess.
11:23Anyone 510,
11:25pediatricians,
11:26former child stars.
11:28Smart.
11:30Is that your dad's room?
11:32Oh,
11:32oh my God.
11:34Help,
11:34please.
11:35What happened?
11:36He was using the walker to use the bathroom and his arms just gave out and he fell.
11:41Dad,
11:41hey,
11:41you okay?
11:42My arms,
11:44they're numb.
11:45What?
11:45Both of them?
11:46Yeah.
11:46What's happening?
11:47I don't know.
11:49I don't think it's from MS.
11:51What?
11:52James.
11:53James.
12:01Spinal cord mass.
12:04So I don't have MS.
12:06No,
12:06but a mass like this can present in a nearly identical fashion.
12:10A lot of doctors will see the lesion,
12:11very common marker for MS,
12:13and they'll make that same diagnosis.
12:15Can't we just go in there and cut it out?
12:17Unfortunately,
12:18given the location,
12:19that's not possible.
12:21So there's nothing we can do?
12:23There's one other option,
12:24an immunotherapy drug,
12:26Hiboxin.
12:27It's had a lot of success in shrinking and even eliminating this kind of mass.
12:30Well,
12:31that sounds good.
12:32It is,
12:33but the drug is in the trial phase through the Mayo Clinic.
12:37What happens if we don't treat it?
12:38The mass will continue to grow,
12:40and will most likely be fatal.
12:45How long?
12:47Less than six months.
12:50Hey,
12:51it's okay.
12:52All right,
12:53I'll talk to Ms. Goodwin.
12:54She knows everyone.
12:56I'll see if she can help get you into that trial,
12:57all right?
13:01Is this what they mean by active labor?
13:04It can help expedite the process,
13:05yes.
13:10What's wrong?
13:12Dr. Brown won't be here for a while.
13:15She's stuck in surgery.
13:17But hey,
13:18don't worry,
13:19okay?
13:19Until she gets here,
13:20I'm your girl.
13:21I'm not going anywhere.
13:23Mm-hmm.
13:25Hey,
13:26you know,
13:26I don't know that I have ever heard how you and Jeremy first met.
13:31I was a temp at his office for three days.
13:34Mm-hmm.
13:35My desk was next to the paper shredder,
13:37and he must have shred like 200 documents.
13:39I was convinced he was a white-collar criminal.
13:44But on my last day,
13:46he passed me a note asking me out.
13:48Aw,
13:48sweet.
13:50I said no.
13:51I wrote back I had a boyfriend.
13:54Wait,
13:54the infamous Derek Davenport?
13:57Good memory.
13:58Mm-hmm.
13:58So what did Jeremy do then?
14:02He wrote me another letter saying that's really going to get in the way of us dating.
14:08Bold.
14:10The crazy thing is,
14:12even after I broke up with Derek,
14:13I didn't go out with Jeremy for months.
14:16Why not?
14:17Because he said he knew he was going to marry me after 20 minutes,
14:20and I thought,
14:22how could anyone be so sure?
14:24Hmm.
14:25I get that.
14:28I shouldn't have doubted him.
14:31All that time we could have been together.
14:35I'd give anything to have that back.
14:49Hey.
14:49It's me.
14:50You don't have to put on a brave face.
14:53Is it that obvious?
14:56Is the morphine not working?
14:58I don't know.
14:59How long is it supposed to take to kick in?
15:02Not this long.
15:04Can we try giving him two milligrams Dilaudid?
15:06Mm-hmm.
15:09You know,
15:10I used to think I was so lucky.
15:14Esme, the baby.
15:16Things always just seem to work out for me.
15:22You know,
15:23I'm starting to get nervous
15:24that I might have used it all up.
15:27Well,
15:28let's see if the Dilaudid helps.
15:30Yeah.
15:33And now, Gail,
15:34I want you to imagine yourself...
15:36I imagine myself
15:37getting the hell out of this machine.
15:39Gail, you're doing great.
15:40We're almost there.
15:43Imagine yourself running
15:44and feel your legs hitting the ground,
15:48pushing you forward.
15:50Okay.
15:52So?
15:53The overall pattern suggests
15:56corticobasal degeneration.
15:58What?
16:00Theo, there's no evidence
16:02of cortical atrophy.
16:04Not yet,
16:05but I see decreased activation
16:06in the parietal lobe
16:08and the motor cortex.
16:09Minimal, maybe.
16:11Theo, that's a death sentence.
16:13You know that, right?
16:14So, like,
16:16what are you seeing?
16:17What are you looking at that I'm not?
16:19I mean, how do you know?
16:21Because I've created a profile
16:22on how this disease presents
16:24in early stages
16:25using thousands of images
16:27and tests from other patients.
16:29And
16:31that's what it looks like.
16:35So that's it for me, then, huh?
16:37I know it's really hard to hear.
16:40And, um,
16:42I'm just so sorry.
16:44Well, how does this,
16:45how does this happen?
16:45How does it work,
16:46this whole basal cell thing?
16:48Well, it causes shrinking and atrophy
16:50in portions of the brain over time.
16:52But right now,
16:54it's only affecting the motor pathways,
16:56which is why you have muscle spasms
16:58and weakness.
16:59But the positive piece
17:00is that because of the cutting-edge work
17:02that Dr. Urabari does here at Gaffney,
17:04we caught this much sooner
17:06than we normally would have
17:07so we can
17:08immediately start treatments
17:09that will hopefully slow
17:11the progression of the disease.
17:12Slow, not stop,
17:15not cure?
17:17Unfortunately not.
17:18Why is that?
17:19Why is there no cure?
17:22Well,
17:23complicated question,
17:24but fundamentally,
17:25it's because it's still
17:26exceedingly rare.
17:28And though doctors,
17:29including myself,
17:30are working on a cure
17:31and eventually we will find one,
17:32the funding just isn't in place
17:34for it to happen anytime soon.
17:37Not fast enough to help me.
17:40Right.
17:42What if I were to chip in?
17:45I'm sorry,
17:46I don't know what you mean.
17:47What I'm saying is
17:47if I were to give you money,
17:48can you find a cure?
17:50That's incredibly generous of you,
17:52but unfortunately,
17:53the funding required
17:54for this kind of research
17:55is just,
17:56it's really quite substantial.
17:59Well,
18:00I can give you
18:00$150 million.
18:01Would that work?
18:11$150 million.
18:13Turns out she has it.
18:14She won the
18:15Mighty Millions jackpot
18:16four years ago.
18:19Wow.
18:19So you're telling me
18:21the woman who uses
18:22a magic eight ball
18:23to make decisions
18:24is worth
18:25a quarter of a billion?
18:27Minus taxes.
18:28Apparently,
18:29people just started
18:30coming out of the woodwork,
18:31trying to get a piece
18:32for winnings,
18:33lying to her,
18:34trying to manipulate her,
18:35and she says
18:36that that's when
18:37she stopped trusting people
18:38and started, you know,
18:39using the eight ball.
18:40Yeah,
18:41I can imagine.
18:42And she's willing
18:43to just give us
18:45her entire fortune.
18:47Only
18:47if we can guarantee
18:49a cure.
18:50And there is a cure.
18:51Based on what evidence?
18:53The success
18:53that we're having
18:54targeting tau proteins
18:55with monoclonal antibodies,
18:57combined with the work
18:58that I'm spearheading
18:58on biomarker development,
19:00both have shown
19:01significant success
19:01in treating
19:02similar diseases.
19:04Formidable points, right?
19:05But anybody
19:06with advanced CBD
19:07just rarely has
19:09more than five years
19:09to live, right?
19:10So I can't imagine
19:12any amount of money
19:13generating a cure
19:14in that time frame.
19:15I can do it.
19:17Theo, I know you believe that,
19:18which is great,
19:19but you don't know it, right?
19:21You don't know it for sure.
19:22Actually, I do.
19:23Look at what they did
19:24with Huntington's.
19:26Ms. Goodwin,
19:27I'm not someone
19:28who overpromises,
19:30but I am telling you
19:32that I can find a cure
19:33in five years.
19:33Look, I respect
19:34your confidence,
19:36but I have found
19:37anyone guaranteeing
19:39something in medicine
19:40usually isn't being
19:41completely honest,
19:42either with the patient
19:44or themselves.
19:46Okay.
19:47Even if I can't find
19:48a cure in five years,
19:49which I can,
19:50it would be morally
19:51reprehensible
19:52to pass on this money.
19:54How does that work?
19:56Because there are
19:57other patients
19:58outside of Gail
19:59to consider.
20:00I understand
20:01your argument,
20:02and it's not
20:04without merit,
20:05but we need
20:07to be straight
20:08with Ms. Spinner
20:09and let the chips
20:10fall where they may.
20:18Can't you give him
20:19something for the pain?
20:20We gave him
20:21two milligrams of Dilaudid,
20:22but with his decreased
20:23kidney function,
20:24anything more,
20:25he might stop breathing.
20:26And even if you don't,
20:28it'll sedate you.
20:29You'll be unconscious.
20:30Well,
20:31if you knock me out,
20:32could you
20:32wake me up again?
20:36Probably not.
20:39It's okay.
20:41It's okay.
20:42No more meds.
20:44I can handle it.
20:45Can we do a C-section?
20:48I'll speak with Dr. Asher.
20:51Can I have a word?
20:52Yeah.
20:56All right, look.
21:00I know what we said
21:01in there,
21:01but maybe there's
21:02something we can
21:02give Jeremy
21:03that would help.
21:04Like what?
21:06Get dosivepi
21:07every ten minutes
21:08just to get him
21:08through a little longer.
21:09Are you insane?
21:10You'd be coding him
21:11before he's dead.
21:13Look,
21:13I followed you
21:14down the rabbit hole
21:15with the cytoreduction
21:16surgery,
21:16but this is too far.
21:17Yeah,
21:17but we can't have
21:18come this whole way
21:19only to watch him
21:19die minutes before
21:20my daughter is born.
21:24Your daughter?
21:27His daughter.
21:28His daughter.
21:31I know that this
21:32is a brutal situation.
21:34I do.
21:35But at some point,
21:36we have to let
21:37nature take its course.
21:47What would you do
21:48if you won the lottery?
21:49Easy.
21:50Mississippi riverboat,
21:51seeless celebrity boyfriend.
21:52Never-ending pasta pass
21:53at Olive Garden.
21:54Oh, yum.
21:55Yeah.
21:56It's annoying, though,
21:57everyone's suddenly
21:57being so nice
21:58to that woman.
21:59It's not like
21:59she's gonna give someone
22:00a pile of money
22:00for bringing her ice chips.
22:02Oh, I don't know.
22:04See this watch?
22:05Yeah.
22:06Attack the Leap.
22:08Last year,
22:09a rich lady came in here
22:10and she gave it to me
22:11and I didn't even have
22:12to bring her ice chips.
22:14Okay, good.
22:15I'll be right back.
22:16Mm-hmm.
22:19Dr. Frost.
22:20Hey.
22:20I made some calls
22:22about the drug trial
22:23for your father.
22:24Great.
22:25Any luck?
22:25Uh, unfortunately not.
22:28You couldn't convince him
22:29to make any space?
22:30Well, we didn't actually
22:32make it that far.
22:33What do you mean?
22:34The study requires
22:36that participating patients
22:38be diagnosed
22:38within the last 30 days.
22:41Okay.
22:42Well, my dad literally
22:43got diagnosed today, so...
22:44Actually, he did it.
22:46I requested his medical record
22:49so I'd have them ready
22:51to send over.
22:53Here.
22:54See for yourself.
23:06You went to a doctor
23:07last year
23:08that told you
23:08the same exact thing
23:09that we did.
23:11You've known
23:11about the mass
23:13on your spinal cord
23:14for four months.
23:18So what was that?
23:20When Dr. Abrams
23:22was standing here
23:23explaining it all to you,
23:24was that just an act?
23:26No.
23:27We didn't know for sure.
23:30God, did you know
23:32about the clinical trial too?
23:35Was all of this a play
23:37so that I would help you
23:38get into it?
23:39Don't lie to me.
23:39Don't lie to me.
23:40No.
23:42My doctor said
23:43it might not be MS,
23:46but also said
23:48I should go see a specialist.
23:50It wasn't fully clear.
23:52You're admitting
23:52that you lied?
23:53That's not what I'm saying.
23:54Then what the hell
23:56are you saying, Dad?
23:59I was lying
24:00to myself.
24:04I got scared
24:07about the possibility
24:09of a terminal diagnosis.
24:16And it's what made him
24:17come here
24:18to reconnect with you.
24:27What am I supposed to believe?
24:33This is so expected
24:35from the both of you, honestly.
24:39You know, the only surprising part
24:41is that I fell for it again.
24:45You got me?
25:02Okay, they'll call once they get Esme set up in the O.R.
25:07Hey, don't look so serious.
25:10I'm having a baby today.
25:15So, uh,
25:17how many of those videos
25:18have you done?
25:19A few dozen, maybe.
25:21Oh.
25:22I like the idea
25:23that she's gonna keep
25:24making new memories with me.
25:28I do wish I could really be there
25:30for just one of them, though,
25:31you know?
25:33Steal it from the future somehow.
25:36Yeah.
25:39Although, you know,
25:41maybe you could.
25:43What do you mean?
25:47Oh.
25:51Hey.
25:52There she is.
25:55Hi.
25:56Didn't realize this place
25:57had turndown service.
25:59Oh.
26:00I'll check back again soon.
26:02Yeah, yeah,
26:02I'm gonna need you to not.
26:03Okay.
26:04Thank you, though.
26:06So,
26:06you guys gonna take my money
26:08and cure this thing,
26:09or what?
26:10If you would like
26:10to make a donation,
26:11we will put
26:12every single penny
26:13into finding a cure
26:14for CBD.
26:16We will create
26:17a multi-team,
26:19multi-front assault,
26:21a global consortium
26:23of experts
26:24with neurologists,
26:25immunologists,
26:26geneticists,
26:27that will allow
26:28for dozens
26:28of simultaneous
26:29clinical trials
26:30for new drugs.
26:31We will move
26:32at warp speed.
26:33Ooh.
26:33And find a cure.
26:35Eventually, yes,
26:36we will find a cure.
26:37I know that.
26:39But fast enough
26:40to save me, right?
26:42Unfortunately,
26:43we cannot guarantee that.
26:47What?
26:47You can't?
26:48Look,
26:50if anybody's gonna do it,
26:51it's gonna be
26:52Dr. Abari and his team.
26:53And as far as
26:53research timelines go,
26:55they are close.
26:56But are they close enough
26:57to help you?
26:58We just can't
26:59in good conscience
27:00promise you that.
27:01I still urge you
27:03to consider
27:04this donation.
27:05You will save
27:06thousands of lives
27:07in the future
27:07and create
27:08a legacy
27:09for yourself.
27:09Okay.
27:10I get it.
27:13Look,
27:14you've got a lot
27:15to think about.
27:16So, um,
27:17so why don't we
27:17give you a little time?
27:18You know
27:18that's not how it works.
27:23Even though
27:24I appreciate
27:25your honesty,
27:26I'm gonna have
27:27to lean
27:29on Chuck here.
27:30I'm sorry,
27:31you're gonna,
27:32you're gonna let
27:32eight ball
27:33decide if you
27:34give us
27:35$150 million?
27:36Of course.
27:37I can't chicken
27:39out now
27:39just because
27:40there's a few
27:40more zeros
27:41involved.
27:43All right,
27:44Chuck,
27:44this is a biggie.
27:46Do I give
27:47all my money
27:48to these men
27:49right here?
27:52All right.
28:01All right.
28:04You're really
28:05staring down
28:05that cup of coffee.
28:08Just trying to
28:09figure out
28:09the right thing
28:10to do.
28:11I heard things
28:11got a little
28:12complicated.
28:15How you feeling?
28:16Yeah.
28:17I'd say
28:18my overriding
28:19emotion
28:20is
28:20confusion.
28:24Why is that?
28:28When I
28:29found out
28:30that my dad
28:31knew this
28:32wasn't MS,
28:33I was sure
28:35it was some
28:35kind of play
28:36to manipulate
28:36me.
28:37And I got
28:38so angry.
28:41And now?
28:43I don't even
28:44know.
28:46I mean,
28:47they've
28:49really
28:50hurt me
28:51over the years,
28:52but
28:53they're not
28:54criminal
28:54masterminds.
28:56So
28:57maybe he
28:58was just
28:59in denial.
28:59Maybe
28:59he is
29:01wanting to
29:02reconnect.
29:03Seems like
29:03you have a
29:04little.
29:06Yeah.
29:08Yeah.
29:09In the past
29:10week,
29:11it's
29:12been nice.
29:15But, um,
29:18if he doesn't
29:19get into
29:19that drug
29:19trial,
29:21the only way
29:22that he can
29:22get the medicine
29:23he needs
29:23is to get it
29:24off-label,
29:25which means
29:27insurance won't
29:28cover it.
29:28It'll be
29:28expensive.
29:3030 grand a
29:31month.
29:36So, yeah.
29:38Um,
29:39now I have
29:40to decide
29:42if I want to be
29:42back in the same
29:43position I was
29:4415 years ago,
29:45taking care of
29:46them financially.
29:48I'm sorry,
29:49but why
29:49exactly?
29:50They're adults.
29:51why does it
29:52have to fall to
29:52you?
29:53Oh,
29:54because they're
29:54in debt.
29:55Because they
29:56make bad choices.
29:57Because, uh,
30:00it just always
30:01does.
30:04You're a really
30:05good person.
30:06You know that?
30:08Yeah, it doesn't
30:09always feel that way.
30:11That's how you know
30:11it's true.
30:16So, what do you
30:17think I should
30:17do?
30:21I'm not sure
30:22how I could
30:23really answer
30:23that.
30:24I mean,
30:25you just
30:25have to decide.
30:27Do you
30:27believe in
30:28second chances?
30:32How are you
30:33feeling?
30:34Uh,
30:34honestly,
30:35pretty exposed.
30:37She's doing
30:37great,
30:38Jeremy.
30:39Okay,
30:39just finished
30:40the bladder
30:40flop.
30:41Bladder or
30:42blade,
30:42please?
30:44Since you're
30:45getting close.
30:46Can you feel
30:47anything?
30:48Not yet.
30:50Getting ready
30:50to start the
30:51transverse uterine
30:51incision.
30:52Get the suction
30:52ready.
30:55Okay.
30:56Esme,
30:56you're going to
30:57feel a little
30:58pressure now.
31:04Can you cook
31:04cords too tight?
31:06Can't deliver
31:07through.
31:07Wait,
31:07what does that
31:08mean?
31:08It means we
31:09need to cut
31:09the cord now.
31:10Clamp?
31:11And scissor.
31:16Here we go.
31:18She's out.
31:19Why can't I
31:20hear anything?
31:21What's happening?
31:22Is she okay?
31:24Mouth and nose
31:25clear?
31:26Still no respiration
31:27and tone looks
31:27poor?
31:28Transfer,
31:28start PPV.
31:29Okay.
31:30What's happening?
31:31She needs more
31:32stimulation.
31:33I'm sure they're
31:34doing everything
31:34they can.
31:35Can somebody
31:36please tell me
31:36what's going on?
31:37Still unresponsive.
31:38Bagger,
31:39we need an airway.
31:40Eat your tube
31:40now.
31:41I got it.
31:41Esme?
31:42Hello?
31:44Esme?
31:45Hello?
31:46Hello?
31:57Excuse me.
31:58Get out of the way,
31:59please.
32:02Baby's fine.
32:03Baby's fine.
32:04She's started breathing.
32:04Mom's fine.
32:05We're okay.
32:06Yeah?
32:07Okay.
32:08You okay?
32:09Yeah,
32:10I'm just
32:10winded from running
32:11is all.
32:11No, no,
32:12I mean emotionally.
32:15I heard your
32:16convo with Kingston.
32:19Yeah,
32:19I should get back
32:20to Jeremy.
32:21Let him know
32:21the good news,
32:21yeah?
32:22Of course.
32:27I woke up today
32:28without $150 million
32:30and I'll be going
32:30to sleep
32:31without $150 million.
32:33So,
32:34nothing changed.
32:36Then why does it feel
32:37like I just got
32:38sucker-bunched?
32:39Hey, Sam,
32:40what would you do
32:40if you won the lottery?
32:41Oh,
32:42I have no interest
32:42in winning the lottery.
32:43No interest.
32:45If wealth makes you
32:46more entitled,
32:47can you imagine me
32:48with $150 million?
32:53Hey,
32:53there's Howie.
32:57You're going to
32:58grab my stuff
32:59and then we're
32:59out of here.
33:00All good.
33:01I actually wanted
33:02to see you
33:03because I have
33:04some news.
33:04Oh, yeah?
33:05Everything okay?
33:06No.
33:07Yeah,
33:08I just,
33:08I have decided
33:11to step away
33:12from my teaching
33:13position at
33:13Porter University.
33:15Wow.
33:16Buddy,
33:17are you sure
33:17that this is
33:18the right time
33:18to do that?
33:19Since Susie died,
33:21it's just,
33:22my head
33:23is just not
33:24quite in it.
33:25My heart either.
33:27Okay.
33:27Well,
33:29you've got to do
33:29what's right for you.
33:30I mean,
33:31they must be
33:31devastated over there
33:33though, right?
33:33No,
33:34they're okay
33:35actually
33:35because I already
33:36found the best
33:37possible replacement.
33:39Oh,
33:39well,
33:39that's good.
33:40Anybody I know?
33:41Well,
33:42Danny,
33:43can anyone
33:43really know
33:44themselves?
33:46Me?
33:47Yes.
33:47Howie.
33:48No,
33:49no.
33:49The med students
33:50you had here
33:50are still raving.
33:51You clearly have
33:52a knack for mentoring
33:53and you keep
33:54talking about
33:55what comes next,
33:56finding something new.
33:57Look,
33:57I am
33:59deeply flattered.
34:00Okay,
34:01but I can't just
34:01like bug out of here,
34:03you know,
34:03drop everything
34:04and take off.
34:05I can't do that.
34:05Why not?
34:06You have already
34:07given them
34:07more than half
34:08your life
34:09and the ED
34:10is a young man's game.
34:11You must have
34:11some kind of
34:13protege
34:13who's ready
34:14to take the reins.
34:15Um,
34:17I don't know

34:53you were here.
34:54The, uh,

35:06excited about the idea.
35:08And, uh,

35:10sounded pretty
35:10motivated, right,
35:11to have me on it?
