00:10Riri reverse-engineered technology from the Model 41 generation of Iron Man's armor
00:15and created her own version of the armor using parts and equipment borrowed from the labs
00:21at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was attending on a scholarship.
00:25With Riri making her MCU debut, in Black Panther Wakanda Forever now seems like the perfect time
00:32to get into some of the lesser-known facts about the character.
00:35So with this in mind, I'm Dan from WhatCulture and here are 10 things you probably didn't know about Ironheart.
00:41Number 10, she wielded the Mandarin's 10 rings.
00:45Ironheart had been tracking the location of the Mandarin's rings for many years.
00:49After discovering that the rings were going to be auctioned off at an underground weapons dealership,
00:54Williams went undercover as a former Iron Man villain, the Cobalt Man.
00:58She had hoped to secure the rings without any violence.
01:02Unfortunately, Iron Man and War Machine arrived just as the transaction was being completed.
01:07A fight ensued and Riri was able to use one of the rings to send everyone but herself,
01:13Tony and Rhodey, to the Dark Force dimension and she revealed who she was.
01:18Tony asked why she hadn't come to him for help with this clearly dangerous endeavor
01:22and Riri countered with why Tony hadn't come to her first.
01:27Ironheart, Iron Man and War Machine went to a separate location and began discussing what to do with the rings.
01:34Riri stated that she had been tracking them for years and she wanted to study them
01:38because she believed that they could be used for something other than weapons.
01:42Stark and Rhodes argued that the rings were way too dangerous and needed to be locked away.
01:47Riri said that she had earned the right to be trusted and to be left alone
01:50and that either they trusted her or they didn't.
01:53Then, Tony and Rhodey agreed to leave the ten rings with Riri.
01:58Number 9.
01:58She Created Her Own AI
02:00While at MIT, Riri began to create a new AI for her armor
02:05but was called away to deal with the villain Clash.
02:07When Riri returned, she found that the AI had completed itself by scanning her brainwaves.
02:13The AI took the form of a teenage version of her slain friend, Natalie Washington.
02:17Ironheart called her new AI assistant, Natalie, which stands for Neuro Autonomous Technical Assistant and Laboratory Intelligence Entity.
02:27Natalie and Riri argued when they uncovered a hack by a disgruntled former Stark Unlimited employee, Andre Sims.
02:33The AI wanted to confront him but Ironheart had been forced to hang up her armor
02:38with the enactment of the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act.
02:41Natalie developed a glitch when she entered Sims software to sabotage him.
02:45It made the AI more violent and she hijacked the Ironheart armor to attack Sims.
02:51But Riri stopped her just in time.
02:53Number 8.
02:54Ironheart Outlawed
02:56Riri put her Ironheart armor in storage with the implementation of the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act,
03:02much to Natalie's annoyance.
03:04Being a public figure, she feared the legal repercussions that would befall her mother if she didn't stand down.
03:10Riri did send Natalie to help the champions with security while trying to evade cradle forces after the act became
03:17Kamala's law.
03:18But she stayed safely in Chicago.
03:21The champions end up at Riri's door in Chicago, where she allowed them to hide out.
03:25The champions unwittingly led cradle forces right to Riri's home and they had to fight their way out.
03:31They discovered that the evil corporation, Roxxon, is the one behind Kamala's law and, thanks to their efforts, it was
03:38finally repealed.
03:39The team returned to Chicago and apologized to Williams and the champions were free to be heroes again.
03:45Number 7.
03:46Lady Ironheart of Weird World
03:48Beginning in Champions Issue 25, the team encountered the strange creature known as the Man-Thing while in Tanzania.
03:56And he accidentally dragged the champions' members, the Wasp and Sam Alexander with him when he sucked into a portal
04:02into Weird World.
04:04There, Nadia and Sam lose their memories and find themselves changed by the world's magic.
04:09The villain Eshoo traveled to Weird World and found the heroes.
04:13And after finding that Sam could now channel crystal energy, took them under his wing.
04:17With their help, Eshoo became the master of Weird World.
04:21The champions followed their teammates to Weird World, but found themselves transformed.
04:26Six members of the team found each other, joined the resistance and agreed to take the fight to Eshoo.
04:31Sam unleashed his full ability to tap into the powers of the crystals and would have nearly killed Riri
04:36had Vivian Vision not infused herself into the Ironheart armor, which gave them the power to unlock Sam's true memories
04:44and to save the team.
04:45They defeated Eshoo, who quickly fled before he could be apprehended.
04:49And then they departed Weird World, thanks to Man-Thing.
04:52Number 6, Under the Shadow of the Gun.
04:55While the champions were helping build a community center, Miles Morales received an emergency alert on his phone.
05:02A shooter at his school had killed and injured several people before killing himself.
05:07One of the injured victims was Miles' friend.
05:10And because Spider-Man was with the champions, instead of after school that day, he blamed himself.
05:16Champions number 24 is Spider-Man's story.
05:19But it was Ironheart, who lost both her best friend and stepfather to gun violence, who had the saddest and
05:25probably most logical take on the tragedy.
05:27While talking to Amadeus, she was sure of the inevitability that this would happen again, and there wasn't much they
05:33could do about it.
05:34She said that the gun violence that had touched her life was the very reason she built the armor in
05:39the first place.
05:40It is Miss Marvel, who was in her own school, and has had to endure active shooter drills since the
05:46incident that finally breaks through to Spider-Man.
05:48Ultimately, with the phrase, give up or stand up, Kamala spurred Miles to not only return to his team, but
05:55to his school friends as well.
05:58Number 5, she was recruited by Leonardo da Vinci in Invincible Iron Man number 600.
06:03Painter and inventor Leonardo da Vinci mastered time and space, and recruited Riri Williams, Dr. Tony Ho, and Miles Morales
06:11to be a part of a think tank to bring S.H.I.E.L.D. back.
06:15Da Vinci planned to take the science-first approach to the new S.H.I.E.L.D., whilst Blade
06:20and Cable were handling the physical training of any new recruits.
06:24While this was occurring, on a yacht somewhere, Eric Lynch was being forced by the HUD to sign over all
06:30of Stark Enterprise's assets to him.
06:33The HUD and his gang are beset by Dr. Doom and several Doombots.
06:36Tony and Rhodey then arrive with a legion of remote-controlled Iron Man armors.
06:41Then, at the hotel, Tony's biological mother was surprised to see his biological father, Jude, a Hydra agent.
06:49She thought she had killed years ago.
06:51Then, Mary Jane Watson arrives at the hotel and shoots Jude in the shoulder.
06:55He called for his battalion of nearby Hydra agents, but they were met by Ironheart, Da Vinci and their team,
07:01and eventually, Rhodes and Tony.
07:03Number 4, taking down an empire.
07:06When the sentient cosmic cube, Kobik, altered reality and created a Hydra-backed version of Captain America, Ironheart was one
07:14of the heroes that joined the underground to work against this secret empire.
07:18After New York City is trapped within a dark force bubble, Riri Williams sends out a distress call to all
07:24available heroes to join her in Washington, D.C.
07:27Champion members Hulk, Spider-Man, Viv Vision, along with Falcon and Wasp, joined Ironheart to form a new Red Room
07:35under the tutelage of Black Widow.
07:37The team had then infiltrated a Hydra base.
07:39Spider-Man then beats Cap nearly to death, but his teammates stop him from killing the doppelganger.
07:45They were then arrested, and the evil Cap was defeated when the real Captain America returned.
07:50Number 3, she became the Queen of Latveria.
07:53After flying to the Smithsonian to investigate an explosion, Riri defied Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.
07:59to fly inside and find Sharon Carter sitting amongst the rubble.
08:02Having been saved by a personal force field, Carter asked Ironheart to travel to Latveria and to dispose of Lucia
08:09von Bordos, the former Prime Minister who had been installed with America's help, but was now guilty of war crimes.
08:15So, fighting von Bordos and an army of Doombots, Williams gains the upper hand and defeats her.
08:21When Lucia says she has no authority, Ironheart replies by saying this is an act of dethroning and declares herself
08:28the Queen of Latveria.
08:30Rather than just leaving the country in need, when S.H.I.E.L.D. showed up, Ironheart decided to
08:34hold the position of Queen of Latveria until she could establish a communication between S.H.I.E.L.D.
08:40and the Latverian Armed Forces.
08:41She peacefully stopped insurgent attacks and made sure that free elections were planned.
08:47Then, Riri abdicated and returned to Chicago.
08:50Number 2. Developing Ironheart
08:53Tony Stark had created an artificial intelligence version of his consciousness, and when he fell into a coma after battling
08:59Captain Marvel during the Second Civil War,
09:02the AI was shipped to Riri Williams and assisted her in creating a new, more streamlined version of her armour.
09:08Peppa Potts tries to discuss the danger of being a superhero, especially an armoured one.
09:13However, they are attacked by the Technogolum.
09:15After Rescue and Ironheart defeat them, they convene in Tony's Hall of Armour, where Riri shows her extensive knowledge of
09:22the various Ironman armours.
09:23They are joined by Stark's personal assistant, Mary Jane Watson, his biological mother, Amanda Armstrong, and his AI, Friday.
09:31Armstrong offered to allow Williams to use the Stark labs as her base of operations if she wished.
09:37However, the next day, the Dean of MIT came to the Williams home to convince her to continue her work
09:43in their labs.
09:44And number 1. She is a Certified Child Genius
09:47By age 5, Riri's parents knew she was different.
09:51Her biological father and namesake had died, and the family, which consisted of her mother, sister, and her new stepfather,
09:58lived in the South Shore neighbourhood of Chicago.
10:01Riri began exhibiting behaviour issues, and her mother took her to a child psychologist.
10:06After testing, the doctor determined that the child was a super genius.
10:10Riri's parents arranged to get her special care that would foster her new abilities, and also give her the emotional
10:16support she needed to curb the burgeoning behavioural issues.
10:21Her intelligence caused her to become an introvert, and her passion and fascination with technology caused her to spend much
10:27of her time alone.
10:28At age 10, Natalie Washington wandered into Riri's open garage, and the two became best friends.
10:34A year later, the MIT gave her a full scholarship, and Riri contacted NASA, hoping to apply for their astronaut
10:41training programme.
10:42Sadly, her age and lack of college degree disqualified her for now.
10:47Undeterred and inspired by her personal hero, the young genius, vowed to keep going.
