00:05I don't know.
00:45We're down to the last four in the Champions League.
00:47Action from both semi-finals on the way.
00:50Stephen Warnock, Nader Manua and European football expert Rory Smith are with us.
00:55An absolute all-timer from Paris to come later on.
00:59But we're going to go straight to Madrid for Atletico against Arsenal.
01:03Mikel Arteta looking to end his club's long wait to lift the European Cup.
01:07And Diego Simeone in the other dugout looking to do the same.
01:12Diego Simeone has spent 15 years turning Atletico Madrid into one of Europe's toughest sides.
01:19Two La Liga titles and two Europa Leagues, part of eight major trophies.
01:26A dynasty built on discipline and structure.
01:29But in the Champions League, heartbreak.
01:32Bill's there! Bill is the winner!
01:34To final defeats, both to the biggest rivals.
01:37And once again, it's devastation for a clip of Madrid.
01:41With more agony last season.
01:43Did Julian Alvarez's penalty clip his left boot after it left his right?
02:17Now, a new look at Atleti are back in the Final Four.
02:19Your commentator is Guy Mowgli.
02:22One year ago, Arsenal got this far, but no further.
02:27TSG were always a challenge one step beyond.
02:30This time, well, the Gunners have a great opportunity to reach the Champions League final for the first time in
02:3720 years.
02:39The Atletico Madrid line-up for this first half of the challenge shows four changes from their La Liga win
02:45against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.
02:48Slovakian defender David Hanchko is back from an ankle injury.
02:52Johnny Cardoso replaces the injured Pablo Barrios.
02:55And there are returns after missing the last two games for the former Premier League pair of Ademola Lukman and
03:01Julian Alvarez.
03:03For Arsenal, two differences from the weekend against Newcastle.
03:07Gabriel Martinelli and Victor Jokeres come in with Everett Yeza on the bench and Kai Havertz ruled out by a
03:13groin strain.
03:14But Kai Osaka continues his comeback to fitness as a sub, as does Riccardo Calafiore.
03:21Great opportunity for Arsenal, but for it to come to fruition, they'll have to be absolutely on top of their
03:27game this week and next.
03:32Madweke getting through the gap.
03:34Noni Madweke with the chip, Martinelli went for it.
03:37Incafie behind him.
03:39And his view was obscured by Martinelli's attempt to finish.
03:43Really clever from Noni Madweke.
03:45Stood it up over all the striped-shirted defenders.
03:50Maybe Martinelli would have been better, leaving it well alone for Incafie.
03:57Strange form, Atletico Madrid, lately.
04:00They beat Atletico Bilbao on the weekend, 3-2 at home.
04:04That came after a run of four La Liga defeats in a row.
04:09Here's Mantua Chari.
04:11Chari to fire it across towards Alvarez.
04:15Alvarez stepping away from the tackles.
04:17Oh, that's a brilliant effort.
04:19Well saved, David Ryan.
04:23Bruno Alvarez had the strength and awareness to get this sort of quality shot away.
04:29It's beyond me.
04:31But Ryan watching like a hawk every step of it.
04:38Griezmann.
04:40Ruggieri.
04:42He's headed over the bar by Alvarez.
04:46One shot saved, one header too high.
04:50Nineteen goals this season.
04:53Nine of those have come in the Champions League, which is a club record in a season.
04:58Koke.
05:01Lukman beat to it.
05:02Odegaard takes over.
05:03Matweke now.
05:05Matweke having a look at goal!
05:08Not far away from it.
05:10I think Oblak knew he was going wide.
05:13Well, that's a great sign for Arsenal if Noni Matweke is willing to have one look up and only think
05:19about the shot.
05:21Had the chance to square the ball.
05:22Zubi Mendy was there.
05:23Martinelli was close.
05:25Looking at that, maybe Oblak wasn't so sure.
05:27He went for it.
05:33Alvarez has gifted Arsenal a ball.
05:35Giving it to Zubi Mendy.
05:36Zubi Mendy again.
05:38Jokoraz goes down and the referee gives Arsenal a penalty.
05:47Atleti players surround the referee.
05:49Simeone's fingers wagging too in front of the fourth official.
05:53Jokoraz's positioning was excellent.
05:54Getting in front of the defender.
05:56Waiting for the contact, which was inevitable.
06:00Look at Hachko's hands.
06:01They're wrapped around Jokoraz.
06:05It is an Arsenal penalty.
06:08Victor Jokoraz is on the spot.
06:11It's a huge moment in this semi-final tie.
06:17Jokoraz fires in.
06:21Advantage Arsenal.
06:27Pressure penalty.
06:30Absolutely phumptome.
06:35Hit it so hard, it practically went through Jan Oblak.
06:40Straight through the hands of Oblak.
06:42Look how wide apart they are.
06:48Arsenal are likely to have to weather a storm in a football sense and a very real sense.
06:54There's been thunder and lightning around in the air.
06:57I think the rain's coming.
06:58We'll just have to wait and see to find out whether the weather forecast is as accurate as a Victor
07:03Jokoraz penalty.
07:04If the rain does come, we're told it's coming hard.
07:08The referee's going to give that as a foul.
07:12If he gave it for Jokoraz in the penalty area first half, he's certainly going to give it against him
07:17for this one.
07:18Cardoso just moving.
07:20What Jokoraz did, I guess, to win the penalty.
07:22He's passing in between opponent and ball and making sure the contact was there.
07:27It's going to be Alvarez who's going to take on the shot.
07:32Side netting strike.
07:34Many in the Metropolitano thought he pulled off a wonder strike there.
07:40And he got the curl as he intended.
07:42Just a little bit more needed.
07:44Don't think the keeper's getting that.
07:45Diego Simeone, he will have a plan of those black suited sleeves.
07:51Lovely little touch there from Antoine Griezmann.
07:55And now it's Adamola.
07:56Look, man!
07:57Straight at Ryan.
07:59Griezmann's effort.
08:00And his second one is saved somehow.
08:04Top reactions from Ryan.
08:08First save from Ryan.
08:10He was ready for whatever came next, but Gabriel did it for him.
08:14Let he go deep with that, really deep.
08:16And Saliba puts him behind for another one on the other side.
08:22That was the follow-up attempt from Antoine Griezmann.
08:26Could only kick out at the frame of the goal in frustration.
08:36Griezmann.
08:36Now to Llorente.
08:39Handball shouts.
08:41Strong handball shouts.
08:42They're not going to let that go lightly.
08:46Referee didn't see it, but the cameras will have done if it happened.
08:56It's Ben White.
08:59It was a shiver from Llorente.
09:01Look how far the hands away from the body.
09:03That is going to be an Atletico Madrid penalty.
09:08The hand left angling.
09:09The ball hits the hand.
09:10Penalty.
09:11Atletico is coming.
09:23David Reier gets his instructions.
09:25I don't think he's faced a penalty at all this season.
09:29The last one was in last year's Champions League semi-final at PSG in the second leg.
09:37And he saved it from Vitinho.
09:40Julian Alvarez, who's scored his last four penalties.
09:44He's nine out of ten for Atleti, all told.
09:47He's put in a nine out of ten performance so far tonight.
09:51This might take him to top marks.
09:55And it does.
09:58Reier could only watch.
10:00That's an exceptional conversion of the penalty.
10:04And it might just be the kick that turns the tide.
10:11That's fantastic.
10:14Reier was grasping thin air.
10:17Just a slight wave of the right hand.
10:19See you later.
10:20Not getting near you.
10:22Reier got to 25 Champions League goals in 41 games.
10:25Faster than any other Argentinian player.
10:28Which means, yes, faster than Messi.
10:31He got to 25 in 42 games.
10:33And faster than Sergio Aguero.
10:35He took 48.
10:39Luckman.
10:41Out of his feet to Griezmann.
10:43Reier was beat by that.
10:45In comes Cardoso.
10:46Now it's Ruggieri.
10:48Griezmann again.
10:51Deflected wide.
10:53Arsenal clinging up.
10:55The storm has come.
10:59What an effort that is.
11:01From the evergreen and Twangriessmann.
11:06That was a pass that was too ambitious.
11:10Icaffier has now taken a bit of a fall, which has not impressed the referee.
11:16Does that mean there's a get down his side?
11:18Well, Alvarez is playing it that way to Llorente.
11:22Llorente in.
11:22Luckman, Luckman, Luckman, straight at Reier to Ben White's immense relief.
11:30What a chance this was for Luckman.
11:32He caught White napping.
11:38Here's Declan Rice.
11:40Can he move into an advantageous position?
11:44Hide Saka.
11:49He's got there first inning.
11:51He did.
11:53Penalty again for Arsenal.
11:56That came out of nowhere.
11:59And have a look here.
12:01Saka into Heze.
12:02Look where his boot is.
12:04It's on the ball.
12:05That prevented Henschko's boot getting onto the ball.
12:07He had to go through Heze.
12:09Yeah, it's only a tiny touch.
12:11But by the standards of everything we see in the top leagues,
12:15it's a touch enough.
12:18Well, I wouldn't want to make this decision.
12:20Is that enough to force Heze off balance and to the floor?
12:26Here we go.
12:28No penalty.
12:30Oh, Mikan Arteta will be livid.
12:36Simeone.
12:37He's relieved.
12:39It's come up on screen now.
12:41Athletic player number 17 did not commit a foul on the opponent.
12:45But there you go.
12:46Short and sweet.
12:47Well, that'll be talked about.
12:52Heze.
12:55He's not getting stronger again.
13:01Mosquera.
13:02Heze.
13:02It's come back to Mosquera.
13:05Up in the air from Ovlak.
13:07Saka into the mix.
13:10Trossard.
13:13An absorbing first leg.
13:15It's been tense from the start.
13:17Second leg will only be worse.
13:19Atletico Madrid 1.
13:20Arsenal 1.
13:23I mean, the whole sequence tells the story.
13:25I mean, it's a clear contact.
13:26You make the decision.
13:27You cannot overturn that decision when you have to look at it 13 times.
13:31It's just at this level is completely unacceptable.
13:34Obviously, it's a wrong decision and it changes the course of the time.
13:37The referees, in the end, he chucked it and he decided that it wasn't and we agree with him.
13:44I think in the first half we controlled the game quite well, I think, and had a few good opportunities
13:52to score.
13:53Managed to score out of one of them and then I think in the second half they started much better.
14:00Maybe they served to get a goal eventually and, yeah, tough game.
14:05We know it's a tough place to come, but, yeah, it's only half-time.
14:08And we are in an incredible position, semi-final of the Champions League.
14:11We have to play in front of our people, it's in our hands and that's it.
14:15And I recover and Fulham.
14:18But there's only one place to start and, Stephen, we're going to start with you on the Eza penalty, which
14:22was given on the pitch and then, obviously, overruled.
14:27And there was a little bit of discord and disagreement when we were watching this live, wasn't there?
14:31Yeah, I think this is going to split opinion, I really do.
14:33I think there's going to be a lot of people watching at home thinking, I can see contact.
14:37I think when you see the initial sort of angle here, you do think there is a touch on Eza's
14:44foot and you see it as he steps across there.
14:47I just don't think there's enough contact, if any contact.
14:52Now, that one looks like there is enough and it looks like there's clear contact, but you've got to challenge
14:58for the ball at some point.
14:59You've got to go toe-to-toe, if you like.
15:01That one there is the one that you'll watch and you think, there's not enough contact.
15:07And Eza almost expects it to happen and invites the challenge and then goes down.
15:12So, for me, I don't think there's enough to give a penalty in that incident.
15:17I think he's described that very, very well, but, like, in a kind of safe way.
15:20He said, you don't think it's enough to give a penalty.
15:22But I think for most people, the discussion is around, is it enough to overturn the penalty?
15:26That's the issue.
15:27Yeah, because when we first saw it, and this is myself included, I thought, you know, it's a penalty.
15:32Yeah.
15:32But the more I sort of watched it back, like, that bit there makes it really clear and obvious and
15:38he's going to be stepping onto Eze's foot, onto Iberia's foot.
15:40But the fact is, like, it doesn't finish that way.
15:43Then you start to see some more angles and you start to sort of doubt yourself.
15:46And I think in some ways, the video system referee has probably done a good job by allowing the referee
15:50a chance to see it again.
15:51And the referee could have said it's still a penalty, but the fact that he didn't means that he didn't
15:56see enough.
15:56Had he stuck with his decision, do you think, you know, it wouldn't have been perhaps on field, you know,
16:02not gone and looked again?
16:04Do you think that would have been the fair decision?
16:07Would that have been right? Would you have been happy with that?
16:08I've got a bit lost now with what we're meant to be doing with penalties.
16:12To me, that isn't a clear and obvious error, which I think is still the bar.
16:16They may have changed it several times since this programme started.
16:19But that's not a clear and obvious error.
16:20You can see why he's made that decision.
16:21There is one angle where it looks like there's contact.
16:23Yeah.
16:24And there's a couple where, to be honest, you can't really tell because the shot's not right.
16:28I'm surprised it was overturned.
16:31Sorry, overturned by him, by the referee?
16:33Because you're talking about the VAR now.
16:35You're surprised the bar have called him out?
16:36No, no, it's the referee's decision.
16:38But there does seem to be the case that if the VAR calls the referee over...
16:41We could spend a lot more time on this.
16:42We've got loads of penalties.
16:43OK, so what's next?
16:44Yeah, well, we're going to go straight to Ben White's handball, actually.
16:47And, Nadim, you can have a little look at this.
16:49Because there is consistency in the inconsistent interpretation of the rules, isn't there?
16:54Yeah, there's a disappointing consistency with the way that UEFA handballs are given.
16:59And I think as far as the game goes, if your arm is anywhere away from your body at all,
17:04it doesn't matter whether it flicks off your leg, you know, flicks off somebody else,
17:06so if it hits your arm, it seems like the referee is going to give these decisions.
17:10And they seem very quick to be able to do so.
17:11And even we saw yesterday with Alphonso Davies, he's come off his leg and he's hit his arm.
17:17Ousmane De Bele is adamant that's a penalty.
17:19If we're in the Premier League and we see that, that's not going to be given as a penalty.
17:22I think most people say that's not a penalty.
17:24But in Europe, the consistency is there.
17:26Because that was yesterday, this was today.
17:28And if there's another one in the next few games, we'll be given again.
17:30And to be fair to Arteta, he did say after the game that UEFA have been really consistent,
17:35that that is a penalty in UEFA competitions, which I think most of us probably disagree with.
17:38What's strange for me is that it relies on a really strict interpretation of IFAB's rules,
17:43the body that sets the actual laws.
17:46UEFA seem to have taken that, like, really literally,
17:49which I don't think they have to do.
17:50That's a conscious choice.
17:52But that feels to me like a punishment outweighing a crime.
17:54And it's not consistent with how we see the Premier League operate, is it?
17:58But obviously, we're going to break up the penalty incident, Stephen, actually.
18:02There is another one to come, don't worry.
18:03But you are going to look at the fact that actually the second half played out very differently
18:07for Atletico because of a tactical tweak.
18:09Yeah, and at half-time, they decided to take Simeone off and bring on Robin Lamont.
18:15And they went to a back five.
18:17And you see here, Luckman and Llorente were the wide players.
18:19Griezmann and Alvarez become the forward two.
18:22The link up between these two players.
18:23And it was almost 4v4, if you like, going forward.
18:27And it caused Arsenal problems.
18:29Luckman got in here.
18:30You see, Griezmann had an opportunity.
18:32As it falls back to him, it's a really good block from Gabriel.
18:35But the way that they set themselves up,
18:38they had the two wing-backs, but Ruggieri on this left-hand side
18:42and Llorente on the right.
18:43And Ruggieri's got brilliant movement.
18:45He's got athleticism.
18:46But Luckman's position, that touch is absolutely brilliant.
18:49But it causes a problem now for right-sided centre-half, right-back.
18:53They're scared of Luckman.
18:55And then Ruggieri plays that ball in.
18:56Griezmann hits the bar off this opportunity.
18:58So they were spreading the back line of Arsenal as much as they could in certain situations.
19:04And then you see the two forward players really stretching the game here.
19:08You'll see the way that Atletico players drop deep.
19:12And now you've got runners in behind.
19:14And you've got spaces in behind that midfield.
19:17Lovely little ball from Griezmann in behind.
19:19And then runners beyond.
19:20And it just felt that Atletico made sure that they isolated in 1v1 situations.
19:26Luckman possibly should do a little bit better here.
19:28Maybe has a little bit more time.
19:29But when you look at Luckman in 1v1 situations, he's just brilliant in here.
19:34Arsenal defend it well.
19:35But watch the way that they ring-fence it.
19:37They make it so difficult to get out.
19:40And then you'll see here, Hanko steps in, wins the ball back.
19:43And then they're on the attack again.
19:45And then they get a strike and a goal from Molina.
19:47But the way that Arsenal sort of struggled in this second half was much to the credit of Diogo Simeone.
19:55They were absolutely taken out of the game, weren't they?
19:57They were nullified.
19:58Any kind of threat that came from them, look at that, you know, there, that is incredible.
20:00That is between the 45th and the 84th because actually they rallied a bit in the last 10 minutes or
20:05so, didn't they?
20:06Yeah, the Eze penalty actually seemed to take the sting out of Atletico a little bit.
20:09They lost their way a little bit for maybe five or ten minutes after that
20:12and had a bit of another sort of surge right towards the end.
20:16But I think in that sort of half-an-hour period, Simeone will have seen enough,
20:20particularly from Griezmann, to think they can hurt Arsenal in London.
20:23The question might have been Julian Alvarez went off injured.
20:26If he doesn't play, that's a massive boost for Arsenal.
20:29He had four shots and eight touches in the opposition box, Griezmann.
20:32So, yeah, he really did in those 40 minutes or so come to life, didn't he, for them?
20:36It all started for Arsenal from Jokeres and a penalty that he won and then scored.
20:43Let's have a look at his first half, shall we?
20:45For sure, yeah, I think his first half was really good.
20:47It's what Arsenal needed because it's a tough place to come,
20:49but you need some of that strength, some of that physicality
20:51and the direct play that he has here running down that left-hand side.
20:54Like Llorente, the full-back for Atletico, Cheson there,
20:56he's big, he's strong, but Jokeres is stronger.
20:58What I like is the fact that it finishes with a great ball back to Odegaard
21:01on a different moment, maybe Odegaard scores that.
21:04But here we see how he wins that penalty
21:06and he finds himself in a good position
21:07and immediately opens up his body to the goal.
21:10And the defender's in the wrong position, but Jokeres,
21:12with the strength that he has and the positioning that he has,
21:14means that he has to be fouled.
21:15And then once he gets up, he's got a chance to go and take that penalty.
21:19I think Oblak, the goalkeeper, has probably created somewhat of a gap
21:22between his arms there.
21:23Yeah.
21:23But the strike from Jokeres certainly was there.
21:25And at half-time, Arsenal were winning 1-0,
21:27and I think for the most part it's down to Jokeres.
21:29And they are going to need him.
21:30Obviously, Havertz is out now
21:32and they've got a very, very important few weeks ahead.
21:36So a performance like that and the contribution that he made tonight
21:39is heartening, obviously, for Mikel Arteta, isn't it?
21:41Yeah, it is to a certain degree.
21:43I just think he's more suited to away games.
21:45I think he's better at being your focal point,
21:47holding the ball up, drawing fouls him, making life difficult.
21:50When you're going to be asked to dominate the ball at home
21:53in the next game, is he capable of doing that?
21:56Is he capable of scoring that important goal?
21:58He scores a lot of penalties, Jokeres,
22:00but he needs to make sure he's getting in better positions
22:03to score from open play.
22:04He's on 19 goals now.
22:06The only players ahead of him are Thiago and Haaland,
22:08who's way, way, way ahead.
22:10And that's what they brought him in to do, wasn't it?
22:11He didn't score 20-plus goals this season.
22:13Yeah, it's funny, because that's what we sort of thought
22:15they might need to get over the line of the title,
22:17was a $20, $25 season striker.
22:19It's only 12 in the Premier League,
22:20so it depends where you want your $20 to be.
22:23It just feels as though he is a little bit short
22:26of that kind of absolute elite level from this first season.
22:29Maybe next season he's better when he's settled a little bit more,
22:31but at the moment I'm not sure he's quite in that class
22:35that maybe Arsenal fans were expecting.
22:36Is that scoreline a scoreline that Mikel Arteta tonight
22:39will feel comfortable with taking back to the Emirates next week?
22:41I think so.
22:42I think so.
22:42I think we showed earlier how much they suffered in that second half
22:45and the fact that they came away from the game with a 1-1 draw,
22:48knowing you're going to have 60,000 of your own fans
22:50in that second leg next week.
22:52I think overall he'll take it, because he knows he wasn't perfect,
22:54but they can get better.
22:55OK.
22:56Brace yourselves, guys, and settle in for this one.
22:59I mean, this is why you've stayed up, isn't it?
23:01Holders PSG taking on six-time winners Bayern Munich
23:04ahead of last night's game.
23:06They were the two highest-scoring teams in the competition
23:09and they did not let us down.
23:11Commentary comes from Steve Wilson.
23:14A match-up which would have been fit for the final again.
23:18Bayern have actually won each of their last five UEFA matches
23:22against PSG, including a win here on match day four this season.
23:27But Paris Saint-Germain won the FIFA Club World Cup meeting
23:30in Atlanta in July,
23:32when Luis Hernandez and William Pacho were sent off
23:35and Musiala broke his leg and dislocated his ankle.
23:39Safe to say that there is history.
23:41The only real decision for Luis Enrique was Barcola or Due.
23:46As expected, he's gone with Due.
23:48So no changes from the second leg victory at Anfield.
23:51Barcola on the bench,
23:52where the return of Fabian Ruiz from a knee injury
23:55has bolstered their options.
23:58The last club to successfully defend the Champions League
24:01was Real Madrid eight years ago.
24:04Vincent Kompany, who is suspended for tonight's game
24:07after three yellow cards,
24:09makes two changes to the XI,
24:10which saw off Real Madrid in the second leg of the quarterfinal.
24:15The fit again, Musiala for Gnabry
24:17and Alphonso Davies for Lima at left-back.
24:23After huge anticipation,
24:26it's arguably the two most informed sides in Europe
24:30who meet up in the semi-final first leg.
24:37Zaire Emery, Parizcalia, his danger.
24:41Davies got his head on it.
24:43Luis Diaz has it for Bayern
24:44and he'll charge away downfield.
24:47Luis Diaz ploughing a bit of a lone furrow
24:49to put Olise to his right-hand side
24:51and he looks to use Michael Olise.
24:55Harry Kane.
24:57Kimmich.
24:59And touched off beautifully for Luis Diaz.
25:02William Pacho, it's a penalty kick.
25:04William Pacho lunged at Luis Diaz
25:08and the referee, Sandro Pacho, says penalty.
25:11It's a brilliant run by Luis Diaz.
25:16Kimmich.
25:18Touched off to Luis Diaz.
25:22William Pacho says he got the ball.
25:25Well, he certainly did get the ball
25:27with the second movement,
25:28but not with the first.
25:32Penalty to Bayern Munich.
25:35And you know what this means.
25:37It means Harry Kane.
25:42Scores for the 54th time this season.
25:48And more importantly,
25:49gives Bayern the lead in the semi-final.
25:56Absolutely no doubt about it at all.
26:00Sending Safinov the wrong way.
26:03Harry Kane and Bayern strike first
26:06in this semi-final.
26:11Dwayne not toff it.
26:13No foul.
26:14Here's Harry Kane.
26:15Olise to his right.
26:16Olise!
26:18Massive moment.
26:20Off the line by Marquinhos
26:21after Safinov had half-smothered the shot.
26:29Olise goes to ground.
26:31It's no foul.
26:32Well, it was very nearly
26:33two in two minutes here.
26:35That is such a crucial stop.
26:38Took all the pace off it,
26:39allowing Marquinhos
26:41to make sure it didn't sneak in.
26:43That's a really, really big let-off
26:45for Harry Saint-Germain.
26:52Oh, it's a great ball.
26:54Dembele will reach this.
26:56Dembele for PSG.
26:57He's put it way wide of goal.
26:59Way wide of goal
27:01from Ousmane Dembele.
27:03Well, you can scarcely believe
27:06that he's missed it
27:07and missed it by so much.
27:17That's a good ball.
27:18Clarence Scalier is in behind.
27:19Stanisic, Dembele in the middle.
27:21Clarence Scalier will come inside
27:22if he can.
27:23And he can!
27:26Can't he just?
27:27He's done it again.
27:30Clarence Scalier with another
27:31brilliant goal.
27:34What a great ball by Due
27:36to knock it over the top
27:37of Stanisic, who knew
27:38he was in trouble here.
27:40And knowing what Clarence Scalier
27:42is going to do
27:42is very, very different
27:44from stopping him doing it.
27:46That is fantastic.
27:48PSG won, Bayern won.
27:50We've only played 25 minutes
27:52at this semi-final.
27:54We could easily,
27:56easily have had
27:58two goals apiece.
28:02Luis Diaz.
28:13He's got away from Nuno Mendes again.
28:15He's done that two or three times.
28:17Takes on Marquinhos.
28:18Goes along the by-landing,
28:20hits the post,
28:21and Safanov clutches it.
28:22Well, he's so full of pace,
28:24so full of tricks,
28:25so full of confidence.
28:26Got away from Nuno Mendes
28:27and from Marquinhos.
28:29Kept the ball in play,
28:30and it rebounded
28:31onto the post-off,
28:32down Neves.
28:33Now here's Desiree Douai.
28:35And that is only just wide.
28:37He wants a corner.
28:38What about this game?
28:40You cannot take your eyes off it.
28:41Brilliant from Desiree Douai.
28:43I think he has a case there.
28:45It just flicked off the toe
28:46of Jonathan Tarr's boot,
28:48and it is a corner
28:49to Paris Saint-Germain.
28:52Dembele is going to take this.
28:56And it's in!
29:00Jao Neves with the header.
29:03Paris Saint-Germain two,
29:04Bayern Munich one.
29:06And they've turned it around.
29:09The European champions.
29:13Jao Neves with the header.
29:16He makes that run.
29:18And Musiala didn't really go with him.
29:21Didn't get tight enough.
29:23It's a brilliant header.
29:25And Neuer could not quite
29:27get his fingertips to it.
29:3035 minutes into this
29:32enthralling semi-final,
29:34which is promising
29:35to become one of the classics
29:37of its type.
29:41Dembele's pass is glorious.
29:43It's Desiree Douai!
29:47Well, some of the football
29:49in the first half
29:50of the first leg
29:51of this semi-final
29:53has been from another planet
29:55from both sides.
29:57Absolutely brilliant.
30:06Olysses in a really good position.
30:08Olysses in a really good position.
30:10Brilliant!
30:16What a game!
30:18What a game!
30:20It's 2-2!
30:24It's 2-2!
30:24And these two sides
30:26are really serving up
30:27something sensational here
30:28for both the best form
30:30of defence's attack
30:31and this has been
30:33one of the best
30:34first halves of football
30:35you could ask to see.
30:43Karatschalya.
30:44Karatschalya.
30:46Dembele.
30:48And they're claiming a penalty
30:50Alfonso Davies with the block.
30:52Karatschalya!
30:54Saved by Manuel Neuer.
30:55Sandro Oshera is clearly
30:57in communication with
30:59Carlos Del Toro Grande
31:00the VAR.
31:02Wow.
31:05Do you know what?
31:06In Europe this might be given.
31:09The Spanish VAR
31:11thinks this
31:13is a penalty.
31:15I mean that movement
31:16of the left arm
31:17away from his body
31:18is making himself bigger
31:19which you're not allowed to do.
31:20But it does flick off
31:22his midriff.
31:23He's giving it.
31:25It's a penalty
31:27to Paris Saint-Germain
31:28in the last seconds
31:30of the first half.
31:32More drama
31:33in this game.
31:36Dembele.
31:38Facing Manuel Neuer.
31:42And it's in.
31:46The fifth goal
31:48of the first half
31:50and the first leg
31:51of an unbelievable
31:54Champions League semifinal.
31:57Paris Saint-Germain
31:58three
31:58Bayern Munich two.
32:02The first ten minutes
32:04of the second half
32:05have gone by
32:06without the score
32:07being added to
32:08which is
32:09somewhat surprising
32:10given the first half.
32:12Fittina with a lovely ball.
32:14Hakimi.
32:14Dembele is in the middle.
32:16Pulled back.
32:17Oh, they both missed it.
32:18But Clarice Scalier didn't.
32:22And for the first time tonight
32:24one of these two brilliant sides
32:26has a two-goal advantage.
32:30Clarice Scalier with the finish.
32:32Harry Saint-Germain
32:34for Bayern Munich two.
32:38Well, it's a great ball
32:39into a great run
32:41and Hakimi
32:43with yet another assist
32:45by the way
32:45pulling it back
32:47into the path
32:47of Dembele
32:48and Zaire Emery
32:49who both jumped over it
32:52and Clarice Scalier
32:53sweeps it
32:54into the Bayern net
32:56and it's 4-2.
33:02Moussial,
33:03Kane,
33:04brilliantly done.
33:05Konrad Leimer.
33:06What a move this is.
33:07The pass though
33:08was just away
33:08from Luis Diaz
33:09and it's cleared
33:10to Desiree Douai
33:12and PSG on the counter
33:14are as good as anybody
33:15if not better.
33:17Douai.
33:20Dembele.
33:21Oh, he's done it!
33:24He's beaten Neuer
33:26in his near post.
33:28It's 5-2
33:30is the game
33:31that keeps on giving.
33:34PSG 5
33:36Bayern Munich 2
33:39and Vincent Kompany
33:41stuck in the heavens
33:42can do nothing
33:44about it from there.
33:47Douai does really well.
33:49Dembele is clearly
33:50onside.
33:51He still has
33:52an awful lot to do
33:53and Manuel Neuer
33:55is beaten
33:56for the fifth time
33:59tonight
34:00and Dembele
34:01opens up
34:03a three-goal advantage.
34:14Diaz.
34:15Hakimi couldn't
34:16shake off
34:17Luis Diaz
34:18and
34:19it is a free kick
34:21to Bayern
34:22for that challenge.
34:25Hakimi trying to grab
34:27Luis Diaz
34:28who wouldn't be grabbed.
34:30Bayern free kick
34:31Joshua Kimmich
34:32to take.
34:34Kimmich with the delivery
34:36and in!
34:38Did Upamecano get a touch?
34:40It's gone in
34:41and he's claiming it.
34:43Kimmich with the free kick
34:45Upamecano with the tiniest glance
34:48yet another goal.
34:525-3
34:54Upamecano for Bayern.
34:58Karad Scalio
34:59who is of course
34:59now on a hat-trick.
35:01Luper Mecano
35:01did well to take it from him.
35:05Here's Kane.
35:07Kane.
35:09Oh brilliant
35:10touch from Luis Diaz.
35:11Luis Diaz!
35:16The flag is up.
35:19This is going to be checked.
35:22Guadalupe Porres Ayuso
35:24says offside.
35:25This is going
35:27to VAR
35:28to be checked.
35:30This is going to be
35:31such a tight decision.
35:33It's a fantastic finish
35:35by Luis Diaz.
35:38It's a goal!
35:40It's a goal
35:41for Bayern
35:42a goal
35:42for Luis Diaz.
35:45PSG 5
35:46Bayern 4
35:48Bayern have scored
35:49twice
35:50in 4 minutes here.
35:53Well Harry Kane's
35:54ball into Luis Diaz.
35:56The control
35:56is fantastic.
35:59The finish is
36:00every bit as good
36:01as the control.
36:03And we have
36:049 goals
36:05and counting.
36:12Fabio Ruiz.
36:13That's a good ball.
36:14It's Pitina.
36:163 up here.
36:174 with Hakimi
36:18getting up there as well.
36:19Sonny Mayulu
36:20makes a great
36:21little run
36:21and hits the woodwork.
36:28Mayulu here
36:29is a tremendous hit.
36:31Smashing the woodwork.
36:38And the referee blows his whistle
36:41and anybody who has seen
36:44this first leg
36:45of the semi-final
36:46is unlikely to forget it
36:49in a hurry.
36:50And the good news is
36:51there is a second leg
36:52to come next week.
36:54It's finished in the
36:55Parc des Princes.
36:56Paris Saint-Germain 5
36:58Bayern Munich 4.
37:02It was amazing.
37:03Yeah.
37:04I think the best match
37:06I've ever managed
37:07as a coach.
37:09Amazing rhythm.
37:11Both teams
37:11trying to play
37:12offensive football
37:13trying to show
37:14their quality.
37:16and I think everybody
37:18has fun
37:20looking at the match.
37:22Happy because
37:23we won
37:25Bayern Munich
37:25and they only lost
37:27this season
37:27three matches.
37:28It means
37:29we did it great.
37:31Nine goals.
37:32We'll have to watch it back
37:33and to really digest
37:35what happened.
37:36But overall
37:37the fact that
37:38we were 5-2 down
37:39in the tie
37:39away from home
37:40and we found a way
37:41to claw it back
37:42to 5-4
37:43and take it
37:43into the Allianz
37:44with everything
37:45to play for next week.
37:46I'm really proud
37:47of the boys.
37:47Everyone is giving
37:48everything.
37:49So I don't know
37:50we always speak
37:51about what you
37:52want to give
37:53to your fans.
37:54I think from the
37:55moment you give
37:55this it's very
37:57very tough
37:58to disappoint
37:59and then after
38:00it's about the result
38:01but we had chances
38:02a lot of chances
38:04and there's still
38:07a home game
38:08so we have still
38:09time to score
38:10those chances.
38:12An incredible
38:12game.
38:13I mean superlatives
38:14don't really do it
38:15justice but try.
38:16Give me some
38:17with 24 hours
38:17reflection.
38:20Honestly
38:20I can't say
38:21I don't know
38:22what to say
38:22it's just memorable
38:23isn't it?
38:23That's one of the
38:24best performances
38:25in games
38:25that I've seen
38:26from an attacking
38:27standpoint.
38:28What I love
38:28is Vincent Kompany
38:29who wasn't even
38:29able to be
38:30on the sideline
38:30there.
38:32As a defender
38:32legendary defender
38:33in the Premier League
38:33he's seen his side
38:34concede five goals
38:36and he can see
38:36by the look in his
38:37eyes he's very
38:37confident for the
38:38next week.
38:38He's doubling down.
38:39He's doubling down.
38:40Tripling down.
38:40The highest
38:41praise I can give
38:42is that I felt
38:43quite guilty
38:43sending my son
38:44to bed at half
38:44time.
38:46You said the
38:47second half will
38:47never be this good
38:48son honestly.
38:49I'll tell you about
38:50it in the morning.
38:51OK we're going to
38:51have a little bit
38:52more detailed look
38:53about how these
38:54sides contributed
38:55to such an epic
38:56encounter.
38:56Stephen is at the
38:57screen.
38:57He's having a look
38:58at it from the
38:59Bayern side of
39:00things.
39:02Yeah Gabby we're
39:02going to look at
39:03one of the most
39:03formidable front lines
39:04in Europe and it's
39:06by Munich's
39:06front line.
39:07They're absolutely
39:08incredible at the
39:09way that they move
39:09the way that they
39:10play the way that
39:11they interchange.
39:13You'll see here
39:13the forward three
39:15here are highlighted
39:16and it's not the
39:17usual three.
39:17You've got
39:18Musiala, Kane and
39:19Alise.
39:20Diaz is that little
39:20bit deeper where he's
39:21tracking Hakimi but
39:23what is very evident
39:24is that you've
39:25got two wide
39:26players.
39:26So this time you've
39:27got Alise and
39:29you've got Musiala
39:29you've got Diaz
39:30through the middle
39:31and you've got
39:31Harry Kane just
39:32sitting in that
39:32playmaker role if
39:34you like.
39:34As he plays this
39:35ball into midfield
39:36now you'll see
39:36there's a flat back
39:37four from Paris
39:39Saint-Germain and
39:40Marquinhos has got
39:40a problem but he's
39:41got two runners
39:42now Pacho and that
39:43spaces him behind
39:44him it causes him
39:45so many problems
39:46little one-two
39:47and that's what
39:49draws the penalty
39:50for Bayern Munich.
39:52This time Musiala
39:53winning the ball
39:53you see Harry Kane
39:55dropping deep
39:55runners beyond
39:56him you've got
39:56Alise and Musiala
39:58Alise probably
39:59should do better
40:00with that opportunity
40:01but this is the one
40:01where you look at
40:02Musiala's position
40:03now he's that
40:04deeper player in
40:05that number ten
40:06if you like
40:06then he realises
40:08now Diaz is in
40:09that deeper position
40:10so he has to make
40:11that centre forward
40:11position.
40:12You've got Harry Kane
40:13on that far left
40:14hand side
40:14Alise upstanding
40:16on the night
40:16he just caused
40:17Mendes so many
40:18problems time and
40:19time again
40:20he can go left foot
40:21right foot
40:21inside outside
40:23very comfortable
40:24and then you see
40:25Diaz there just
40:25ringing that edge
40:26of the area
40:27and we talk about
40:28Harry Kane being
40:28the playmaker
40:29that number ten
40:30well this time
40:30it's someone else
40:31it's Alise
40:32Alise drops deep
40:33into that position
40:34Musiala running
40:36in behind
40:36and Alise just
40:37creating that magic
40:38brilliant finish
40:39from him
40:40and then the pass
40:41of the night
40:42arguably the goal
40:43of the night
40:43you see Harry Kane
40:44we talked about
40:45him being in
40:45that number ten
40:46position
40:46that playmaker
40:47position
40:47Musiala now
40:49playing as a
40:50centre forward
40:50Diaz in behind
40:51Marquinhos
40:52the way to pass
40:53the run
40:54and this
40:55the touch
40:55it's absolutely
40:56phenomenal
40:57it's brilliant
40:58from Luis Diaz
40:59he just gets
41:00Marquinhos in a
41:01position where
41:02he's not comfortable
41:03touch with the
41:03outside of the foot
41:04you'll see Marquinhos
41:05there trying to
41:06break the little
41:07feint
41:07it's beautiful
41:08it just sits
41:09Marquinhos on his
41:11heels
41:11and the finish is
41:12outrageous from
41:13Luis Diaz
41:14and they caused
41:15the Paris Saint-Germain
41:16defence
41:16so many problems
41:18all game
41:19but the thing is
41:20is that it's this
41:21trio who get all
41:22the credit
41:22but it's actually
41:23the four players
41:24and you take into
41:25Musiala and you've
41:27also got Serge
41:28Gnabry who play
41:29a part in that
41:29it's a hundred goals
41:31in all competitions
41:32and we've still got
41:33six more games to
41:34add to that
41:34and they can add
41:35to that tally
41:36thank you Stephen
41:37well newspapers in
41:39France and Germany
41:39were understandably
41:40full of praise
41:41for last night's
41:42spectacle
41:42no translation needed
41:43in L'Equipe
41:44which calls the
41:45match football
41:46total or total
41:48football
41:49adding that the
41:50return leg should be
41:51another thriller
41:52the headline in build
41:53is thanks for this
41:54football night
41:55but the German
41:56tabloid also says
41:57that Bayern gave
41:58PSG too much
41:59space
42:01so Stephen's very
42:02brilliantly articulated
42:04how it's not actually
42:05a front three
42:05there's a four there
42:06are you going to tell us
42:07the same thing for PSG
42:08about their attack
42:09listen I like your
42:10front three
42:11but I'll raise your
42:11mind
42:14and I think it's
42:16really clever in
42:17terms of how they do
42:17it because they're
42:18one of the best
42:18attacking sides in
42:19in European football
42:21and in these three
42:22they're so dynamic
42:23so good on the ball
42:24but there's an
42:24awareness about
42:24running into space
42:25as well
42:26this here from
42:26Karek Scully
42:27when he gets the
42:27ball and as soon as
42:28he gets it there
42:29he's thinking about
42:30end products
42:30and just a little
42:31touch there
42:32takes it aside
42:32what an incredible
42:33finish
42:34and this is how
42:35they play throughout
42:35the game
42:36and it's not just
42:36the front three
42:37it's Hakimi
42:38the right back
42:38always coming to
42:39support the play
42:40through here now
42:41Desiree Douwe
42:41one of the quickest
42:42players on the pitch
42:42he finds the space
42:43and now here come
42:44the front three
42:45again trailed on the
42:46far side
42:46by Hakimi
42:47and the danger
42:48they can bring
42:49in what feels like
42:50a split second
42:51and it always ends
42:52with a shot
42:52with an assist
42:54or you know
42:54with a goal
42:55and it's so so
42:56impressive
42:56the energy that they
42:57have the skill
42:58that they have
42:58the timing
42:59the combinations
42:59again this started
43:01off in their
43:01defensive third
43:02but we blink
43:03and before you know
43:03it Desiree Douwe
43:04is going through
43:04on the Bayern Munich
43:06goal
43:06and he's unlucky
43:07to just drag
43:07this shot wide
43:08but I'll be honest
43:09I would have hated
43:10to play against
43:11players like this
43:11they're so sharp
43:13so clever
43:13so composed
43:15and the organisation
43:16and the timing
43:16understanding
43:17when to go
43:17when not to go
43:18and an appreciation
43:19for the pass here
43:20Hakimi goes down
43:21the right hand side
43:22and he plays it
43:22into the box
43:23first time finish
43:24for Clarice Gelia
43:25second goal of the game
43:26and the quality
43:27that they have
43:27as I say
43:28it's breathtaking at times
43:29but they do put
43:30the work in this point
43:31now it's Clarice Gelia
43:32but he looks forward
43:33straight away
43:33and now here's real danger
43:36because it's Desiree Douwe
43:37because it's Usman Dembele
43:38and even though Bayern
43:39have players back
43:40he's buying his time
43:41he's protecting the ball
43:41then he gives the ball
43:42to the Ballon d'Or winner
43:43in Dembele
43:44and he hits a finish
43:45straight through the legs
43:46of a Meccano
43:47and that is a huge goal
43:49you know I know
43:49Steven's front three
43:50was really good
43:51but to be honest
43:52I think my front three
43:53got five goals yesterday
43:54so I think it's better
43:55Hakimi is going to miss
43:56the second leg
43:57we don't know quite how long
43:58he's going to be out for
43:59undoubtedly
44:03but let's have a word
44:05on Luis Enrique
44:06and what he has built here
44:08and he's now the fastest manager
44:09to get to 50 Champions League wins
44:12and that is an illustrious list
44:13he sits in there
44:14of those behind him
44:16can he do this
44:17with any other group of players
44:18could they play that way
44:19this is just such a special
44:20combination of players
44:22not just their talent
44:23their speed
44:23their fitness
44:24everything about them
44:25the fluidity
44:26you know
44:27because his name
44:27is going to be banded around
44:28isn't it
44:28with all the big jobs
44:29over the next few years
44:31I think he needs players
44:33of an incredibly high level
44:34obviously
44:35I don't think he could do it
44:35in like League 2
44:36necessarily
44:37but
44:38the Premier League
44:39obviously
44:39yeah I think he could
44:40if you think about
44:40his Barcelona team
44:41which is always a bit overlooked
44:42as we think of Barca
44:43as Guardiola's construction
44:45but the team that won
44:46the Champions League
44:47in 2015
44:47was Luis Enrique's masterpiece
44:49the Messi
44:50Neymar Suarez
44:51$131 season
44:53trio
44:54it was the same
44:55it was that sort of
44:55interchanging of positions
44:56it was the fluidity
44:57it was the speed
44:58they did everything at
44:58and what he won't have
45:00if he came to the Premier League
45:01is quite that help
45:02that he gets sometimes
45:03with the fixtures
45:04and how they're able
45:04to move games
45:06to create a bit more space
45:07between Champions League's
45:08fixtures
45:09which they get in Ligue 1
45:10and also
45:11to be able to rest players
45:13in the way he does
45:14and you look at
45:15how many minutes
45:16his top players have played
45:18and it's quite significant
45:20isn't it
45:20in terms of their rest time
45:22yeah and this is the
45:23this is the 11 who started
45:24last night
45:24Zaire Emery's a slightly
45:25strange one
45:26because he's been playing
45:26as Fabian Ruiz
45:27has been injured
45:28but everybody else
45:29you know you're looking
45:29at kind of 16-17 full games
45:32they've played in Ligue 1
45:32this season
45:33compared to the Premier League
45:35teams
45:35particularly Arsenal
45:36obviously being left
45:36in the Champions League
45:38that is a relatively easy
45:40workload
45:40offset a bit by the Club World Cup
45:41last summer
45:42because obviously
45:42they made the final
45:43so they didn't have a break
45:44but then they had a very slow
45:45start to the league face
45:46didn't they
45:46but they can kind of
45:47afford to take it easier
45:48a little bit in the league
45:49as well
45:50because they are so much stronger
45:52so much richer
45:52than all their rivals
45:53and you know
45:53the most league minutes
45:55played outfield this season
45:56of the teams left
45:57in the semi-finals
45:57the top four players
45:59are all Arsenal players
46:00however for as much as
46:01that is a good point
46:01I think you look at
46:02say those Arsenal players
46:03have played all those minutes
46:04they could have been
46:05rotated better throughout
46:06the season
46:07so for as much as
46:08yes they you know
46:09I think there are some managers
46:13that like to maintain
46:14a consistent
46:15not necessarily starting 11
46:16but five or six players
46:17and that's what we've seen
46:18with Arteta
46:18but then come the end
46:19of the season
46:20maybe that's why
46:20sometimes they'll fall away
46:21I don't know if it'll be
46:22this season
46:23but I feel like we've gone
46:24too far away
46:25from what a brilliant game
46:26sorry my bad
46:27no no
46:27I've laid you down that path
46:28we're going to come right back
46:30into the moment
46:30because Rory's been going
46:32back through the history
46:34of the competition
46:34because many people saying
46:36this is the greatest game
46:37in Champions League history
46:38well there are some contenders
46:39on Rory's list
46:41and so let the debate begin
46:42I mean Stephen came in
46:43today into the office
46:44and said the greatest game
46:45of all time
46:45we're just putting it
46:46in Champions League
46:47parameters here
46:48I just thought it was brilliant
46:49I mean the quality on show
46:51and the way that they
46:53they think so quickly
46:54on the pitch
46:55they react to things
46:56whether it's defensively
46:57offensively
46:58I thought the game
46:59was absolutely brilliant
46:59I mean the standout game
47:01for me on Rory's list
47:02is obviously Istanbul
47:03AC Milan versus Liverpool
47:05I think it's arguably
47:06the greatest final
47:07that we've ever seen
47:08such a story around it
47:10but in terms of quality
47:11of what we actually saw
47:12on the pitch
47:13I think last night's game
47:15was just phenomenal
47:16any contenders for you
47:17that could nudge it off
47:18top spot
47:19oh there's some really
47:20good ones there
47:21and some real memorable
47:22moments like for example
47:23the Barcelona game
47:24against PSG
47:25where this
47:26Sergio Beto scores
47:27with like one of the
47:28last kicks of the game
47:28you can feel the raw emotion
47:30around that
47:30but that's also a team
47:31losing 6-1
47:32but I think that game
47:33yesterday
47:33when it was 5-2
47:34to PSG
47:35that should have been
47:36game set and match
47:37but with the quality
47:38that Bayern have
47:39instead we got two more
47:40goals from them
47:41and now the tyres
47:41and the balance
47:43it felt like
47:44it's your list
47:44yeah I mean
47:45I'm similar to Nadem
47:46to be honest
47:46I think PSG Barca
47:48was the most kind of
47:48breathtaking game
47:49that I've ever seen
47:50that 6-1
47:50the Ramon Sade
47:51last night felt like
47:52watching Nadal Federer
47:53it was two teams
47:54just going at each other
47:55constantly
47:55yeah
47:56a game for the ages
47:57a game from the gods
47:58I think that was my
47:58favourite headline
47:59well join us next Wednesday
48:00to see if Arsenal
48:01can make their second
48:02Champions League final
48:03ever 20 years on
48:04from their first
48:05and to see if Bayern
48:06and PSG can score
48:07even more goals
48:08in the second leg
48:09or maybe they'll grind out
48:11one old draw
48:11from all of us
48:12good night
48:12and PSG can score
48:27and пиш it
48:28in the second leg
48:28with Arsenal
48:28Hill
48:29in the second leg
48:30will be
48:33good night
48:36and
48:38in the second leg
48:40will be
48:40that's no
48:41that's no
48:41that's no
48:41that's no
48:42It's rather the king, the shambler...
