Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer at the groundbreaking for the Boathouse Tourism and Marine project at Shell Cove.
Transcript
00:00Today marks a groundbreaking on the official start of the construction on the Shell Harbour
00:06Boathouse, a project jointly funded by Shell Harbour City Council and the New South Wales
00:12Government. It's a strong example of what can be achieved when different levels of government
00:18work together to deliver meaningful outcomes for our community and in fact our region.
00:25This development will be a major new addition to the Shell Cove waterfront precinct. The Boathouse
00:31will bring together dry boat storage, marine maintenance facilities, retail and office spaces
00:38in one purpose-built location, supporting activity along the waterfront and creating new opportunities
00:45for local businesses. Importantly, it means local vessel owners will no longer need to travel outside
00:52the region for storage, maintenance or repairs. It will strengthen Shell Harbour's reputation
00:58as a fully equipped marine destination, while supporting tourism, recreation and economic
01:05activity across the city and no doubt across the region. The project will also create employment
01:12opportunities during construction and support ongoing jobs in marine services, tourism and commercial
01:20operations once the facility is operational. Today represents the shift from planning to delivery.
01:28Another important step forward in shaping a well-connected waterfront that our community
01:34community and the region can be very well proud of. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much.
