00:00Come on in.
00:01Perfect, right on that tee?
00:03Yes.
00:04So, I got to know, what were you and Lainey just talking about?
00:07I'm so embarrassed, but I'm going to tell you.
00:09There were these pajamas that were in the CMA's grab bag last year.
00:14Something about Sundays, and they got ducks on them, and I live in them,
00:17and my girls just don't want to know me because of these pajamas.
00:20Anyway, she wears them, too, and she said she's going to give me some more.
00:23Oh, I love that.
00:24So that's what we were talking about.
00:25I'm glad that I asked.
00:27Sorry, it's so incoordinary.
00:29So tell me, you're here tonight presenting the Innovator Honor to Leve.
00:32Why is that so exciting and special for you to be doing this for her?
00:36Well, I think that Leve is just, she's one of the things where all boats rise with a voice like
00:40that.
00:41Period.
00:41Because she's pushing the boundaries and challenging consciousness around what can be commercial.
00:46I want to support that in any way that I can.
00:49That's so cool.
00:50That voice is just a once-in-a-lifetime voice, and I mean, anything we can do to push it
00:53forward, we need to do it.
00:54That is so incredible.
00:56So your new album explores family and queer identity.
01:00What has been the response from fans with your authenticity and vulnerability?
01:03Well, family and queer identity really go hand in hand for me.
01:07I just wake up every day about as queer as I can be.
01:11Amen.
01:12Period.
01:12Someone's got to do it.
01:13I'm glad you're doing it.
01:14And I think that the response has been kind of surprisingly relatable.
01:19I love that, you know, that straight people and that people, you know, outside of queer relationships, maybe they don't
01:26have family members that are queer or representing in any given way, can see a family like mine and go,
01:33yeah, you know, it's weird.
01:33We have a lot in common.
01:34I can relate to that, and I want to perpetuate and help uphold that right, which is, you know, not
01:41a one-way street.
01:42Amen.
01:43Period.
01:44I know we're at Women in Music, but I got to ask about working with Aaron Dessner, because I love
01:47Aaron and I love Long Pond, and I just want to hear about that experience.
01:50What do you know about Aaron and Long Pond?
01:51Are you, like, a bit, do you know him well?
01:53I wouldn't say I know him well.
01:55I just love him, and I love that studio.
01:57Yeah, it's so nice.
01:58It's like when you're at Long Pond, it's immersive.
02:01Yeah.
02:02You're just, you're there.
02:03There's no TV.
02:04There's no video games.
02:05It's just you in this kind of, like, minimalist Amish barn, and for some reason, I'm able to really shut
02:12down to the world and create there.
02:14And then Aaron, he's just, he's an absolute delight, and he's a genius, and everything he touches turns to gold
02:22because of the way he plays.
02:23He's fabulous, he's a fabulous player, and he's, his intuition is kind of, yeah.
02:29That's incredible, and you are an icon and a legend.
02:32You're holding up the house for us, thank God.
02:33Thank God Brandi Carlisle's on the case.
02:35Thank you so much for talking to us.
02:37I hope you have the best night.
02:38I hope you have the best night.
02:39Oh, thank you.
02:40Have fun in there.
