Did you know there is a giant burning crater in the middle of a desert that has been on fire since 1971?

Known as the Darvaza Gas Crater or the "Door to Hell," this terrifying and beautiful site in Turkmenistan was created by a Soviet drilling accident. For over 50 years, it has burned at temperatures reaching 1,000°C!

But there is a huge update in 2026: Scientists are now using advanced engineering and new wells to finally extinguish the flames to protect the environment.

In this video, you will see:

The shocking story of how a drilling mistake created an eternal fire.

Why it has been burning non-stop for half a century.

00:00Did you know there is a massive hole in the middle of a desert that has been burning for
00:03over 50 years and refuses to go out? This is the Darvaza gas crater, also known as the door to
00:09hell.
00:09It's a 230-foot-wide pit of fire in the Turkmenistan desert. In 1971, Soviet scientists
00:16accidentally drilled into a gas cavern to stop the gas from spreading. They set it on fire,
00:21thinking it would burn out in a few days. That was half a century ago, and it hasn't
00:25stopped burning since. It's so hot that you can hear the roar of the fire like a jet engine from
00:30miles away. The government has tried to put it out multiple times, but the gate remains open.
00:35Would you dare to stand on the edge?
