U.S. petrol prices reached their highest level since the Iran conflict began, driven by disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, with recovery expected to take months.

00:00Field prices in the U.S. climbed to their highest level since the start of the Iran conflict.
00:05The American Automobile Association says the national average petrol price rises to $4.18 per gallon on Tuesday.
00:16Prices were last near this level about four years ago,
00:20shortly after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war which disrupted global energy markets.
00:25At the beginning of the Iran conflict in late February,
00:27the average petrol price stood at $2.98 per gallon across the country.
00:33Since then, fuel prices have risen by around 40%.
00:36The surge is also linked to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz,
00:40a key route for transporting oil worldwide.
00:43The rising cause of fuel now presents a political challenge for U.S. President Donald Trump,
00:48who had pledged to reduce energy prices during his campaign.
