00:00There's some breaking news to bring you.
00:01Jewish community groups say that two people have been stabbed in Golders Green in North London.
00:07One suspect has reportedly been arrested.
00:11We can just show you a map of the area.
00:14You can see Golders Green sort of north-northwest of London, just north of Camden there on that map.
00:19We can bring you some of the information from two of the organisations involved in it.
00:26And let's bring in our correspondent, Graham Stoppard, who joins me now.
00:31Graham, what can you tell us about what we're hearing so far?
00:35Well, at the moment, this is developing quite quickly.
00:38Obviously, there's police involvement.
00:40But what we're hearing at the moment is from, as you say, those Jewish community groups.
00:44One of them is called Shomrim.
00:46They're a registered charity, and they operate a kind of a mobile neighbourhood watch unit.
00:51And they've said, there's a knife attack on Golders Green Road.
00:56Suspect detained by Shomrim and arrested.
00:58One male was seen running along Golders Green Road, armed with a knife,
01:02and attempting to stab Jewish members of the public.
01:06Shomrim responded immediately and detained.
01:09The suspect, police attended and deployed a taser.
01:13The male has now been arrested.
01:15Two victims have been stabbed and are being treated by Hatzola.
01:19The suspect is in custody.
01:22Further updates to follow.
01:23Now, Hatzola, if you remember, are the organisation that helped run ambulances,
01:27Jewish community ambulance.
01:28Ambulances, those were the vehicles that were destroyed a few weeks ago now in an arson attack.
01:33So there's been, you know, incidents there in recent history as well.
01:38We've also had a statement from CST.
01:41They are another kind of a Jewish community group.
01:45They are a security organisation that has started to become more active with the recent attacks,
01:53recent incidents.
01:54They said as well, they confirmed, they said there has been a knife attack today in Golders Green.
01:59The suspect has been arrested.
02:01We would like to thank Shomrim, Hatzola and Metropolitan Police for their swift response.
02:06We're working closely with the police and urge anyone with information to contact either the police, Shomrim and CST immediately.
02:13Now, at the moment, we haven't heard anything from the Metropolitan Police.
02:16We are, of course, trying to get in touch with them.
02:18But obviously a deeply concerning incident, especially in light of what's been going on at synagogues,
02:25particularly across London, in Manchester, obviously, as well.
02:28And that arson or suspected arson attack on those Hatzola ambulances just really up the road from this attack.
02:36And this is something that obviously enormous concern within the Jewish community about,
02:41also something that the Prime Minister himself has spoken out about and urged calm
02:45and talked about how there is great solidarity from the government and from the rest of society for what is
02:51happening here.
02:52Absolutely. I mean, it's such a... Tensions are so high globally,
02:57and we've seen deep divisions starting to kind of etch themselves across a number of populations.
03:04But at the moment, with this incident, it's still developing.
03:07We have these two statements from these community groups.
03:10We are waiting to hear from the Metropolitan Police.
03:13No doubt there'll have to be a political response as well.
03:16Sir Keir Starmer has been very, very quick to condemn the suspected attacks
03:21or attempted arson attacks on synagogues across London in the last few weeks.
03:26And, of course, that attack on the ambulances in Golders Green as well.
03:30We are still waiting to hear more from the Metropolitan Police.
03:34And we are obviously investigating what's happening on the ground as well.
03:37But I've been to, you know, Golders Green in the immediate aftermath of that arson,
03:45which turned into an explosion when those oxygen tanks in the ambulances caught fire
03:50and blew up, essentially. It damaged the synagogue there.
03:53It damaged the building nearby, block of flats.
03:57You know, and I've been to the synagogue in Finchley,
04:01which there was a recent attempted arson.
04:03And the people I spoke to there, they're scared,
04:06because these are religious buildings,
04:10people of a certain religion who feel targeted.
04:15So whatever is happening with this incident,
04:18obviously incredibly serious, we definitely, you know,
04:20we can be quite sure of that.
04:23This is going to do nothing for those communities
04:26who are already feeling under attack.
