00:04They rolled out the first vaccines, the Pfizer vaccine here in LA.
00:10The Indian regulator has given emergency approval to two different vaccine candidates.
00:23We are informed that the government is trying to procure vaccines from the COVID program.
00:41The first group of people that were able to get the vaccine were the frontline healthcare workers who worked directly
00:49with COVID patients.
00:50So the ER and ICU providers.
00:56And we on labor and delivery, we sort of argued, well, we should be included in that tier because we're
01:02also seeing a lot of, you know, a lot of our patients.
01:05Many, many of our pregnant women are COVID positive.
01:10Less providers than they anticipated actually ended up wanting to get the vaccine.
01:15And so every day they had a little bit left over.
01:18So at that point, they basically put the word out and said anybody in the hospital who wants the vaccine,
01:24any providers in the hospital can come and get it.
01:27And that's sort of how we ended up, how I ended up getting vaccinated.
01:32Why do you step by step to step forward?
01:42Why do you do the job with Covid-19-1919 in the high category of COVID-19?
01:49And because I have a family member in the high category of COVID-1919 in the low category of COVID
01:53-1919,
01:54and because of which I have to do with an emergency number,
01:56those are a lot of things that I am a big part of a staff is currently still working.
02:01but also I don't see my work as a doctor as a hospital.
02:05We see so many people who don't know
02:09that they are suffering from a corona infection.
02:17Some people feel like, oh, we're the first ones, I don't want to be the guinea pig.
02:21So they're just kind of waiting and seeing if there are side effects.
02:25And I have faith that when they see after a few weeks that we're still okay,
02:30that we don't have any major side effects,
02:32that they'll also take the vaccine.
02:33I always try to clarify and take the people's fears
02:39that the vaccine is a great blessing for us,
02:44that we can finally move out of this pandemic.
02:59So in the first phase of vaccination, the government is planning a very ambitious rollout
03:05in more than, in about 300 million people.
03:10Initially, it would be for healthcare workers.
03:13We have concerns in respect of both of the approvals.
03:17In regarding the local vaccine, Bharat Biotech Covaxin, it's called.
03:24The main concern is that the vaccine has been approved without any efficacy data.
03:29And this is because the vaccine is running a phase three,
03:33the company is running a phase three trial, which is still ongoing.
03:37We're really not sure how they would do it,
03:39whether it would be available for public rollout
03:41because of this restriction that says that it is in clinical trial mode,
03:46and how people would exactly be consented.
04:08It's a country which has been having a horrible state
04:15for healthcare system facilities.
04:20So we are also worried about the storage infrastructure for that vaccine.
04:37I think that India in general has a very strong advantage
04:41because even at the moment, there are more than a dozen companies
04:45involved in developing different vaccine candidates
04:48across different platform technologies.
04:51And I think that we're quite optimistic
04:55that there will be more vaccine candidates getting approval in the coming months.
05:00And that could also be important, not just for access and affordability in India,
05:05but also in terms of serving global needs.
05:09If you would like to see if you are watching that,
05:16Isabella.
