00:03The way I live now is definitely influenced by the way I grew up at my parents house.
00:09They are both designers so they've always been collecting classics.
00:14There was always like a red thread of honoring art pieces and old design pieces.
00:21They had a huge library of art books and I remember standing in front of it as a kid
00:27just looking at the covers and just being so intrigued by reading through all of them.
00:32And I think it's a type of theme that I still have in my own home today.
00:40My name is Kristina and I'm the art director of Swedish friendship brand HEM.
00:44And I live here in this apartment with my partner Anton.
00:58We're in the neighborhood of Maria Tollet on the beautiful island of Söder Malm in Stockholm.
01:04This island is very central and full of life and yet it's very relaxed.
01:10There's a lot of people with the same creative mindset living here.
01:15There's always new interesting shops popping up and there's great cafes and restaurants
01:19and yet we're always close to nature which is one of the best perks of Stockholm.
01:26This building is from 1880 and was the first of its kind in this neighborhood.
01:32All types of people live in this building from one person to families of six.
01:37We all share a larger inner yard that also has a wash house and even a sauna.
01:42All residents share and maintain these spaces which is very common in Sweden
01:47and a relic from socialist times.
01:51When we looked at the apartment the strongest selling point was the room layout.
01:55It was already so perfect for a couple like us.
01:58We actually didn't have to change anything.
02:01The apartment has two rooms and a kitchen on 53 square meters exactly.
02:07When you enter the apartment you'll find a small entrance and also a small bathroom.
02:11The living room and the kitchen are also connected and creates a great flow.
02:17From the kitchen you can access the bedroom.
02:20There's also a small room going from the bedroom which we currently use as a walk-in closet.
02:28Our entrance is the place where I leave the day behind.
02:34It has a simple coat rack and a mirror and some space for shoes.
02:39The little green storage from Hem is for all the things that don't really have a dedicated space.
02:44Like sunglasses, keys and gloves.
02:49You can easily turn it around to hide all this clutter if you're tired of looking at it.
02:54I love that you can peek into the whole flat from here and appreciate the light coming in from this
02:59room already.
03:04The living room is bright and cozy and I think it's a collection of colors, materials, books and furniture that
03:12create this ideal rhythm.
03:15Plants love it in this room.
03:17All of the windows are facing west and we get a ton of daylight all year round.
03:24I was really obsessed by the thought of having a bright blue couch for a while.
03:29The obsession went that far that I asked Hem to custom upholster the sofa for me.
03:36The sofa is fully modular so you can put it together or take it apart.
03:40Right now all of our guests sleep on the longer chaise part of the sofa.
03:45By the door you'll find the vintage magazine rack.
03:49It's one of my favorite collector's items.
03:51It's actually designed to stand on an office desk but I chose to hang it and now all of my
03:57apartment magazines are in there.
04:01We both play several instruments so we really wanted a corner where we can gather all of our pieces.
04:08There's something soothing about the presence of instruments in a home so I really like to have them around me.
04:19The zigzag shelf is an elegant elevation for our book and our art collection.
04:27We have extra lounge chairs and stools that we bring from other rooms to gather up here after dinner when
04:32we have guests and that way we can just hang out and talk and have a little nightcap.
04:37The whole apartment still has original flooring intact.
04:43There's an interior design theory that says that you should have five light sources in each room.
04:48And I think that person must have lived in Scandinavia.
04:53In Sweden the light changes by season are so extreme.
04:57The sun doesn't set in summer and it hardly rises in winter.
05:00So while we need the blinds in summer to be able to sleep, you need these five light sources in
05:06winter to be able to stay awake.
05:10I think adding metal elements to space is very essential.
05:14It's like the jewelry of the home.
05:17The living room and the kitchen are connected and I really like that you can freely walk from one room
05:22to the other and see this full row of windows.
05:28As you walk from the living room to the kitchen, you can see a vintage Vita Design museum print.
05:34It's somehow magnetic to our guests and everyone looks at it and it takes you back through all the decades
05:40of design history.
05:44So for this kitchen I spent a lot of time conceptualizing and designing it to get it just right.
05:52For the kitchen I chose a gorgeous custom green and I still love it every day.
05:57The countertop has to be stainless steel for me always.
06:00It's ultra durable and practical and you can have hot and cold things on it.
06:05And it's also very hygienic and it ages nicely.
06:08By replacing the original knobs into these small shiny knobs, you can add this extra glitz to the room.
06:14They're by my favorite local hardware store, Bygg Fabriken.
06:21The storage unit on the opposite side of the counter hosts the fridge and it has a ton of storage
06:26for utensils and dishes and all the pantry items.
06:31It was custom built by the previous owner.
06:33While it's really practical, I'd really like to replace it with something more modern looking in the future.
06:40The dining table is perfect for four people but if we have more friends coming over, we sometimes pull the
06:46table to the middle.
06:48Above the table you find this pendant lamp by Hem and you can change it according to how your style
06:54might change over the years as you can swap out the lampshades.
06:59Generally, I don't really know why people don't have more art in their kitchen.
07:04You spend so much time in there.
07:06So we got Enzo Maris lamella, a big red apple.
07:10The space over the counter has the perfect dimension for it.
07:18We mainly use the bedroom for sleeping and I think it has the perfect size.
07:22The big rice paper lamp gives a nice even glow to the room.
07:27The bed is a vintage IKEA design by Knut Hagberg and it's from 1982.
07:32It was originally designed to upsell the mattress that it holds on two chrome plated brackets.
07:38The specific design has gained extreme popularity over the last few years and I was very lucky to find it
07:45cheap on eBay.
07:46IKEA doesn't sell the mattress to fit the frame anymore so we had to go through another round of online
07:52searching for that mattress.
07:54The bedside tables were used the same way we used the small storage in the entrance.
07:59We put a lot of stuff in and then we can turn it around to hide it.
08:08The small office desk in the bedroom we use for different occasions.
08:12I mostly sit here in the mornings to put my makeup on and when we both work from home though
08:18it's the only little nook in the apartment where you can have a meeting from without disturbing the other person.
08:29There's a small room that goes from the bedroom that we currently use as a walk-on closet.
08:35Here we keep our clothes and household items like a vacuum cleaner and iron board and basically all the stuff
08:42you don't want to look at in other parts of the flat.
08:45I close the door and everything is out of sight.
08:48This feature is a real blessing as I love to live tidy.
08:54The bathroom is very small but it has everything we need really.
08:59It even has a washing machine which is something quite rare in smaller Stockholm apartments.
09:05We have top storage on the shelves and some on the vintage mirror above the sink.
09:11My advice for small spaces would be to keep only what you really need.
09:17I would evaluate the items that you'd want to use in your home and find the smartest spot for them.
09:23I would also make space for non-functional items that just give you the good feeling and add personality to
09:30your home.
09:33I believe the classic Scandinavian minimalism was born out of the materials that are found here.
09:38The other factor is again the seasons.
09:41The winter months are so long and the importance of coziness and surrounding yourself with beautiful things are way more
09:48important here.
10:09It's going to be so close to small breasts.
10:09I am going to add a few things.
10:10I am going to be able to change my way for my friends to watch because I'm going to be
10:10able to see them in the next few days.
10:10The second one is that I'm ready to enjoy this video and in the next few days.
10:10I'm going to support them for a few days and then I'm the last time.
10:10I want to take a couple of my friends with the tracker.
