Estas hienas marrones se han convertido en uno de los grandes enemigos de los ganaderos en Namibia, África. Pues, tras varios años de sequía, se quedaron sin sus fuentes naturales de alimento. Ahora estas comunidades están aprendiendo a convivir con estos animales salvajes, debido a las nuevas leyes de protección de especies al sureste de África.
