00:00¿Qué tal, Doc?
00:03Es siempre genial abrirse a un nuevo tipo de gente, un nuevo público.
00:09Un nuevo público.
00:11Y eso es por eso son tracts son tan divertidos.

00:26No, no!
00:28Right here in front of me now, eat this.
00:32¡Please!
00:33¡Ah, please!
00:34Eat!
00:34No, eat!
00:35Here's the thing, I'm a vegetarian.
00:39With the huge generational crossover success of Shrek,
00:43Hollywood has proven that animated films aren't just for kids anymore.
00:47Where are the others?
00:48Eat me!
00:50The film and music stakes at DreamWorks Animation are raised for Shark Tale,
00:54Coming off the success of Shrek 2
00:57Now the third highest grossing feature film
00:59In Hollywood history
01:01This time around
01:04Shark Tale isn't just relying on
01:06Cutting edge animation
01:07And box office superstars
01:09Like Will Smith, Angelina Jolie
01:12Robert De Niro
01:13And Renee Zellweger for success
01:15The film producers are hoping to set a whole new standard
01:18For animated movie soundtracks
01:20So they've loaded up
01:22With the biggest names in the music biz
01:27I really give props
01:29To DreamWorks
01:30For doing it this way
01:32For breaking the mold on what
01:33The standard is for music in an animated film
01:36You know they got Missy
01:37And Mary J Blige and Christina Aguilera
01:40And you know Sean Paul
01:41And myself
01:44And Tim
01:46They're going with what's hip right now
01:48Gone for now are the days
01:50Of overly sentimental tracks
01:52From Enya, Peeble Bryson
01:53And Celine Dion
01:54They've been replaced by edgier
01:56More contemporary artists
01:58Like Linkin Park
01:59Outcast
02:00And Eminem
02:01These artists are not only selling movies
02:03But make incredible soundtracks too
02:05This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
02:08To us
02:08Shark Tale will not only be this fall's
02:11First animated blockbuster
02:12The producers are determined to make this the musical event of the season
02:16With a streetwise urban soundtrack
02:18That sets this underwater fantasy to a contemporary beat
02:22Hurry, swim
02:23No, Frankie
02:24No, get your boy, get your boy
02:32Shark Tale aims to be more than a collection of songs thrown together without a game plan
02:37The soundtrack is a well-conceived
02:39Ode to old and new school hip-hop, reggae and disco
02:43If you can shake your money maker
02:45DreamWorks hopes you'll be doing it to the Shark Tale soundtrack very soon
02:49Here we go
02:50I think what's great about
02:53Kind of making this older song come alive again in a present day time
03:00It's cool because parents and their children can relate
03:02It's got a fresh new sound
03:04To secure crossover success
03:07The movie's producers have pulled out the big guns
03:10Shark Tale star Will Smith is no stranger to hit movies
03:14With mega films like Independence Day, Men in Black, I, Robot and Bad Boys under his belt
03:20His movies have grossed over one and a half billion in the U.S. alone
03:31Big Willie had hits on the soundtracks to Wild Wild West and The Men in Black
03:39But some music fans were wary of the tunes because they seemed to be recorded as an afterthought
03:45But Shark Tale is about to change all that
03:48Can anyone stop the shark menace?
03:50Learning from past lessons, the artists claim that the Shark Tale soundtrack wasn't just thrown together
03:55These stars got into the film, literally
03:58The way to make a great soundtrack is the artists that are making the music have to be involved with
04:03the making of the film
04:04So people aren't just recording songs separate and then you try to put them into the movie
04:09Lucky day, lucky day, lucky day
04:12Because it was animation, we were able to get all the artists in early to see the scenes and to
04:17watch it
04:18So, you know, like the Luda song with the gold digger like really blends in when you see it
04:25He's dangerous, super bad
04:27You better watch out, she'll take your cash
04:29That Angelina Jolie's character in the movie, she's real, really pretty
04:33Considering that she's a fish
04:36She's basically a gold digger and she's trying to get Will Smith's, aka Oscar, in the movie's cash
04:42There's only one thing I like better than money
04:46Revenge
04:52It's definitely a hit song and it's gonna be a classic for this movie
04:59This is my first time and my first song for an animated film
05:03I'm loving the experience right now
05:06It may be Luda's first original cut for a soundtrack
05:10But songs from his platinum selling albums have been featured in Rush Hour 2, Glitter, and How High
05:15And he even executive produced a soundtrack for Too Fast, Too Furious
05:21Just like Too Fast, Too Furious, which features a lot of hip-hop tracks, Shark Tale follows suit
05:27This movie using so much hip-hop music for the soundtrack
05:30I think that says a lot in how popular hip-hop is getting throughout the whole country
05:34Or throughout the world for that matter
05:36Audience love to see their hip-hop heroes up on the silver screen
05:39Stars like Eminem, P. Diddy, Queen Latifah, and DMX
05:44Have all crossed over to cinema with success
05:46In fact, in 2003, hip-hoppers headlined three movies that broke the $100 million box office mark
05:54And Hollywood plans to keep taking hip-hop artists to the bank
05:57Queen Latifah, Omarion, Fonsworth Bentley, and Bow Wow
06:01All have movies in theaters or in production
06:05Detroit's own D12 hit Hollywood upside the head for the first time in Eminem's 8 Mile
06:11The best-selling hip-hop soundtrack of all time
06:14The Dirty Dozen is back in action on the Shark Tale soundtrack
06:19D12 is a group full of characters and when we write together, we like to bring those characters out
06:25The dude trying to eat me, I guess he didn't like me
06:27And might be because I'm a Pisces, they always trying to take me lightly
06:30Hip-hop is a growing music
06:34You can hear hip-hop and jazz, you can hear it in rock and roll music
06:38You can hear it in R&B
06:40If you do it wrong, people won't like it
06:43But obviously we're doing something right
06:45And they're not the only ones
06:47Bridges prefer, now it's your turn
06:49Frontman-turned-aspiring actor Justin Timberlake teamed up again with super producer Timberland
06:55That's collaborated on JT's platinum-selling solo album, Justified
06:59For a brand-new joint on the Shark Tale soundtrack
07:02Tim and I have worked together before on my record
07:05We took this opportunity to do something a little bit different
07:09Tim's done a couple of little vocals on my records before
07:16The song that me just do has a lot of attitude
07:18So it's more like, I'm a player
07:21I'm gonna get mad at the player
07:28Like the other artists on the soundtrack
07:30Justin wanted to make sure his track maintains street credibility
07:34It's not just a song that we want to work in the movie
07:37It's a song that we just want to work, period
07:38If you keep on pressing at me
07:41Tim and I thought that this would be cool as a duet
07:45Oscar and Lenny
07:46Will Smith, Jack Black
07:48They get themselves into a lot of trouble
07:50What a team, baby!
07:51They ate it up!
07:52I definitely like the relationship between those two characters, though
07:55And I thought that was why it was cool
07:56For Tim and I to do this as a duet
07:59You're having a good time, huh?
08:01You're enjoying yourself?
08:02And, you know, kind of have a conversation
08:04Because these two are plotting all the time
08:06And me and Tim are pretty
08:07We're pretty
08:08We scheme a little bit
08:14Coming up, Christina and Missy take a turn on the disco dance floor
08:18And Sean Paul adds some dancehall flavor
08:21To the remake of a reggae classic with Ziggy Marley
08:32Take a look at almost anyone's iPod these days
08:36And you'll find a wide range of musical genres
08:38The producers of Shark Tale have tried to do the same with the movie's soundtrack
08:46They're hoping hip-hop heads will be filling new tracks from Ludacris and D12
08:51Here we go! Here we go! Here we go!
08:55Listeners who are into dirty pop will enjoy a spoonful from Justin Timberlake and producer Timberlake
09:01Hey, JG
09:01Yeah
09:03Why do you do is keep staring at us?
09:05I don't know, but I'm about to find out what's up
09:09R&B gets a spin on the soundtrack thanks to JoJo, India Ari, and Avant
09:18Reggae dancehall gets a moment in the sun thanks to Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul
09:23Don't worry
09:25Easy a vibe
09:26By the face
09:27Ziggy Marley, son of legendary reggae star Bob Marley
09:31Hooks up with Sean Paul for a cover of his father's classic song, Three Little Birds
09:39But don't even think about calling it hip-hop
09:42But Sean, Sean, Sean by not a hip-hop artist, he's a dancer, artist, reggae dancer
09:46Which is a music which is much, have a much more up-tempo vibes than, than the traditional reggae
09:53And instead of singing, it has DJing, some people say rapping, we call it DJing
10:07To tell the truth, hip-hop comes from dancehall, hip-hop is more, they should be calling hip-hop
10:13dancehall, you know what I'm gonna say, it should be vice versa, because really and truly
10:18a lot of the original hip-hop stuff coming from the original reggae dancehall, you know
10:24what I'm gonna say, if you check the history
10:28Tons of movies feature reggae music these days, but the reggae film connection began
10:33back in the day with 1973's The Harder They Come, the movie featured reggae star Jimmy
10:39Cliff as a down on his luck singer, trying to make it in the music biz
10:42And then the harder they come, the harder they fall, one another
10:49The harder they come, the harder they fall, one another
10:51That movie, a very historic movie, you know, one of the first out of Jamaica, with a great soundtrack
10:57It kinda epitomizes what reggae is, you know, like, reggae is a music that, it doesn't matter what comes against
11:06it, it'll always stand up
11:12Jimmy Cliff's hit song, I Can See Clearly Now, resurfaced in the 1993 reggae-filled soundtrack for Cool Runnings, starring
11:20John Candy and Dougie Doug
11:21The movie was based on the true-life fish-out-of-water story about the first Jamaican Olympic bobsled team
11:2920 degrees below zero in spandex tights, it's not the place where you wanna be
11:35It's like, I think this is my first and last bobsled movie
11:42And for more recent movies, like the surfer girl action flick, Blue Crush, a reggae soundtrack is a must
11:52One of the things that made the film stand out was the director's determination to be authentic
11:57He really keyed in on the authenticity of the movie, he wanted it to be as natural as possible, he
12:02hired a lot of local people
12:03And I think that made everyone kind of like, oh, it's not just Hollywood coming to dominate the North Shore,
12:07they're actually kind of embracing the culture and the environment
12:12Reggae music reflects the feeling, that feeling of freedom of being on the ocean and being in the sun
12:21Reggae music reflects that to the people who watch the movie, so they need that, they need that in the
12:26movie, you know
12:28Shark Tale isn't the first time Ziggy Marley's contributed a reggae track to a big Hollywood movie
12:34For Adam Sandler's 50 First Dates, set in Hawaii, Ziggy reworked the car's classic 80s love song, Drive
12:41Who's gonna drive you home tonight
12:47I know that song from early days of MTV
12:50Who's gonna drive you home
12:51So I worked on it for a couple days at home
12:54Eh, it's not working out for me
12:57I'm not feeling, I'm not getting, you know, I've spent many nights in the mornings
13:01Playing around
13:03Until I finally start to feel it
13:06I'm like, alright, I'm feeling it now
13:08It's my own now, I'm making it my own
13:11Respect, respect
13:12While reggae may be the all-purpose genre for the soundtrack to Sun Drenched Flicks
13:16Not every film features their very own reggae characters
13:20Shark Tale has Ziggy Marley and Dougie Doug as Bernie and Ernie
13:23A pair of dreadlocked jellyfish who sing and laugh their way through the movie
13:27Why is it that me locks can't sting other people
13:30But they have no effect on me or you
13:34Ernie, I didn't mean it, Ernie, I didn't mean it, man
13:37Ernie, boy, Ernie
13:40Ernie, you made a joke
13:43This is my message to you
13:45For his cover of his father's hit, Three Little Birds
13:48Ziggy headed into the studio with fellow Jamaican Sean Paul
13:57My man was a big hero
13:58And to be able to do work with his sons and do one of his songs over in a type
14:03of a more dancehall style
14:05It's amazing
14:07Coming up, another musical genre that was counted out at one time
14:11But has endured three generations
14:13We'll check in with divas Mary J. Blige, Christina and Missy Elliott
14:17When we come back for more of the Shark Tale soundtrack special
14:36With the roster that reads like a who's who in the music biz
14:39The Shark Tale CD may be flexing some muscle the first week in store
14:48But will it have the staying power a certain disco-themed soundtrack has had for almost 30 years
14:58In 1977, John Travolta stepped out on the dance floor to put the moves on moviegoers in Saturday Night Fever
15:05And with hits from Cool and the Gang, The Tramps, Casey and the Sunshine Band, and The Bee Gees
15:11The movie's Disco Inferno turned into a five-alarm fire cell
15:15The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack has sold more than 30 million copies to date
15:20And is still selling at a steady clip
15:22Proving that disco's definitely not dead
15:29The Shark Tale soundtrack features a few contemporary artists revamping a couple of disco classics
15:35Including Cheryl Lynn's Got to Be Real from Mary J. Blige
15:38When I was approached about covering this song, I was so happy
15:42I mean, this song was one of the biggest records during that time
15:47And everyone was singing along
15:49When I was a kid, I was singing it
15:51And, you know, Cheryl Lynn is one of the greatest singers
15:54So everybody was trying to mimic her, you know, and trying to sing the song like her
15:59And it was hard to like Cheryl Lynn, so I had to do it my way
16:02Let's get this party started right
16:09You're to be real, you're to be real
16:17The way I changed To Be Real up to be my own song is
16:20I rewrote, I actually gave the song verses
16:24The song didn't, originally didn't have any verses
16:27It just had the to be real and what you find
16:30It didn't have verses
16:32So I gave it some verses and turned it into a, like
16:37Almost like a love song
16:53Well, the song, To Be Real, connects with the character Oscar in the movie really good
16:58Because the bottom line is Oscar's not being real with anyone
17:02It's not safe to be out here at night
17:05It is now, bro, bro, you're the shark slayer
17:07Yeah, bro, bro
17:08Shark slayer?
17:09No, what was that?
17:11Sometimes I'll be coughing for nothing
17:13I used to be told this big lie to everyone
17:16And To Be Real is perfect, you know, because it's just telling him
17:19Come on, man, you know, be real about the situation
17:22It's like a little thing in his conscience
17:25Did you see what just happened there?
17:26I know, they think you're the shark slayer
17:29As if
17:38Another diva, Christina Aguilera, got a chance to work an old hit
17:52I'm remaking the old classic Car Wash, which I'm really excited about
18:05And it's got a really good classic soulful feel
18:09And I jumped at the chance of getting to remake it
18:23I wanted to keep it
18:25Sounding, you know, pretty classic and soulful
18:29With, you know, that sound that it had back in the day
18:44So that was exciting and fun to play around with
18:47The original version of Car Wash is a tough act to follow
18:51But luckily, Christina's partner in rhyme, Missy Misdemeanor Elliot, knows the track very well
18:56It was performed by Rose Boyce in the 70s
19:00Because it's one of those records that used to be one of those happy cookout
19:06Whatever kind of records that your mother and father used to know about
19:10So we're going to have a lot of fun doing it
19:15The ladies of Lady Marmalade have already teamed up for one soundtrack super hit on Moulin Rouge
19:20So coming together for Car Wash seemed perfectly natural
19:24Missy and I seem to always be coming together for some kind of, you know, collaboration on something
19:31Whether it be, you know, for Moulin Rouge and doing the soundtrack and the song together there
19:40How I got involved with the project was Jeffrey Katzenberg
19:43He reached out to me and we went to L.A. and saw a lot of the footage for Shark's
19:49Tale
19:49And once he told me Will Smith was going to be a part of it
19:51I knew it was going to be a box, a real box office hit
19:55So I decided that I wanted to get involved with it
19:58Yo, Christina! Missy! How about we have a look?
20:02Ah, it's delicious
20:02Come on, tune the fish show, boy, big catch
20:05Plus I like the footage that he showed me
20:07I thought the animated cartoon was hot
20:10No, no, snap it, snap it, you're not snapping it
20:12I'm snapping, I'm snapping
20:14It's okay, a lot of great whites can't do it, yo
20:16Yo, what's up?
20:17What's up with what?
20:18It's very, very cute and really funny
20:28It's going to be just so, so much fun to see that movie
20:32I saw a trailer for it
20:35And it was just incredible
20:37It really is, it takes animation to this entirely new height and level
20:42And, you know, it's just really exciting
20:44I can't wait to see the rest of the movie
20:45Yo, I'm sorry, Dunn
20:47Angie needs to get her freak on
20:48Would you hold for one moment, please?
20:51Thanks, dog
20:51Oscar!
20:52Come on, Angie!
20:53Dance with me, mama
20:54Angie!
20:54Let me say it
20:55To mama
20:56Oh!
20:57Hey, bitch, your car wants to be
20:59Now I know you
21:01You misunderstood, you misunderstood
21:03Sorry with A-pop, Lenny had an accident
21:05He was born
21:07You're a comic genius
21:08Look, all I'm saying is
21:10The kid ain't exactly no killer
21:11My Lenny is a killer, you hear me?
21:14A cold-blooded killer
21:15Look at him
21:19Huh?
21:23That's it
21:23That's it
21:24You are out
21:26What?
21:28What do you mean I'm out?
21:29You're fired
