00:00A related story that is driving Qualcomm shares higher today, OpenAI, maybe working on a phone
00:08with, I guess, Qualcomm chips in it. I seem to recall an Apple, a very famous Apple employee,
00:14going to OpenAI maybe a year ago, Ed, I think it was Johnny Ive, right, to make some kind of
00:19device. Is this what we're expecting? Is this that device? And what do we know about it?
00:26So, Ming-Chi Kuo is an industry analyst at TF International Securities, and he also has a
00:32reasonable following on X. He put a very short research note out on X saying that according to
00:38his supply chain checks, Qualcomm and MediaTek are working with OpenAI to provide the silicon for
00:47some kind of device or handset. And that is the reason that Qualcomm is up so significantly.
00:52We knew from OpenAI announcement in January that they were basically trying to establish a US
00:59supply chain for a wide range of things that included devices. We don't have full spec of what
01:05this device is, but you're absolutely right that OpenAI did a partnership with Love From,
01:11which is the agency that Johnny Ive, the former chief designer at Apple, set up when he left the
01:16iPhone maker. And that's as far as they've got. The details in this analyst's note are very thin,
01:23but basically it seems to be OpenAI getting its supply chain in order for some kind of device.
01:28And Qualcomm, of course, is the largest maker of smartphone processors. So, that's the logic there.
01:34All right. Really fascinating threads here and looking for the whole story. Ed,
01:40looking forward to your program, Bloomberg Tech, Ed Ludlow talking to us about what's going on
01:45in tech. And it's going to be a week where that's really our big focus.
