05:26We discussed facts of the case, her experience with Anthony
05:30And how he was able to take millions from her and her business
05:35Ultimately, I don't think that the documentary did Sarma any favor
05:38It almost sensationalized everything
05:40And I personally believe that it re-victimized her in a way
05:45After I left New York, Sarma and I stayed in touch
05:48I didn't expect we'd ever speak in an official on-camera capacity
05:51But to my surprise
05:57Hi, Sarma
05:59Hi
06:01Sarma did agree to let me record a conversation we had on a video call
06:05Talk to me about what is the actuality of your story
06:12And how was it misrepresented in that docuseries
06:15They perverted my story
06:16You know, they made this series
06:18They titled it Bad Vegan, implying I'm the bad one
06:22The stories are like, oh, they ran off together
06:25Well, no, we didn't run off together
06:27That series didn't explain how this happened
06:31If all they do is show the sort of fantastical, crazy elements of it
06:36That person and people like him
06:39They're just going to keep doing what they do and hurting more people
06:43How do you think you got to that place?
06:46You know, he sort of got to me at a time where I was heartbroken
06:51And incredibly overwhelmed in my business
06:54I was just sort of very ripe for him to be able to come in and target me
06:59How long were you guys together before he asked you for money?
07:02It was at least four or five months
07:05And, you know, when he asked me for it
07:07It was in this way as if it was like this huge emergency
07:10And, you know, again, I'm like a pretty trusting, nice person
07:14It's like if you think somebody's having like this emergency
07:17And it's this temporary thing
07:19You're going to want to help
07:20Well, now he owes me money and I want it
07:23So I'm going to keep that door open
07:24And that's how they get in and ultimately stay in
07:28Is that door being open
07:30What kind of abuse did you endure in the hands of Anthony?
07:34Overall, it was, you know, psychological and financial
07:39Later on, grotesquely, it was sexual
07:42You know, I was asked about the sexual abuse part of it
07:45In my interview for Batnegan
07:47And it was really hard to talk about
07:51Because that was that much sooner from when it happened
07:54And I was shocked when they cut that out of the series
07:57You know, as much as it was embarrassing and hard
08:00It's like they just invalidated it
08:02By completely leaving it out as if it never happened
08:05I can't imagine how frustrating that must have been
08:08You feel you're more of a victim of his crimes
08:10And people don't understand
08:12When you plead guilty to something
08:14That doesn't mean that you actually are guilty
08:16It just means that that was like
08:17The only option you had at that time
08:20And on top of all the financial debt
08:22I also carry the shame that comes along with that
08:25Because even if I know it wasn't my fault in my heart
08:28I feel responsible
08:29And shame just comes along with that
08:32And he doesn't feel shame
08:34So he gets to go off clean slate
08:37I feel very, very strongly about the fact that
08:41So often perpetrators are not held accountable
08:43He got out with really, for all intents and purposes
08:48Very little repercussions in comparison to what you're facing
08:52I've lost my whole business
08:53Lost everything I cared about
08:55And then also have my reputation destroyed
08:58You would think that there would have been an effort to charge him
09:01Not just for the damage that had been caused
09:05But specifically for what he did to me psychologically
09:08And because I still have that fear
09:10And sometimes I'll see somebody from really far away
09:12That has the same build, you know?
09:15And I'll get this jolt of kind of fear
09:19That like, you know, what if he appeared on the street
09:23Or something like that
09:24Do you think he's on to other victims?
09:28Yeah, I'm sure
09:29I'm sure he's on to other victims
09:31And I think he's probably, sadly
09:34Got his metaphorical claws into somebody
09:39You know, if there's something I could do to help
09:40I would
09:41That's kind of why I'm doing this
09:45If Anthony was capable of what Starmer was alleging then
09:49Then he still could be capable of them now
09:52I know that a tiger doesn't change their stripes
09:54I want to know what Anthony's up to
09:57Where is he?
09:58What is he doing?
09:59Who is he doing it to?
10:00I can't find an email address for him
10:03I can't find a phone number
10:05With Anthony all but non-existent
10:07I decided to reach out to the author
10:09Of the original Bad Vegan article
10:11Alan Sulkin
10:12Who's been covering this story for nearly a decade
10:14And still regularly communicates with Sarmer
10:17Hi
10:18Oh, how are you?
10:19I'm Elizabeth
10:19I'm glad you're here
10:20Come on in
10:21Have a seat
10:22Thank you so much
10:23So the story that hasn't really been told is
10:27After Anthony went to jail
10:29After conning people out of millions of dollars
10:32And allegedly sexually assaulting Sarmer
10:34Where did he go and what did he do?
10:37Well, first when he got out of Rikers
10:39Basically he went to live in his mom's house
10:43Up in Massachusetts
10:46He was just sort of trolling around on Twitter
10:50For hours and hours
10:51And changing his Twitter handles all the time
10:53But it was the same account
10:54And he was probably searching for his next mark
10:57You know, this is all the research I did
11:00And I got all these tweets
11:01And then I also got some of the text messages
11:03That were going back and forth
11:05Between Anthony and Sarmer
11:07They're still in touch
11:08They have been in touch on and off
11:11Since Anthony has gotten out of jail
11:13I start to see him mention things about politics
11:18You know, Anthony says, saw your tweets
11:21Katie Hill had to be removed
11:23Katie Hill was a Democratic U.S. representative
11:27Who won a very close election
11:30In a typically conservative district
11:32Her downfall came when a reporter named Jennifer Van Laar
11:36Published photos of her
11:39Basically naked, having a threesome
11:41On this thing called Red State
11:44This right-wing publication
11:48Her seat will prove to be important down the line
11:51Powerful people decide things like that
11:53She was a corrupt mess, as are most politicians
11:56But she has a seat that was important to someone for something
11:59As if he knows
12:00Right
12:01I remember when the story broke
12:03It was a huge story
12:05Every single major news organization was covering it
12:08The fall from grace for a California congresswoman
12:10Once seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party
12:13Congresswoman Katie Hill is stepping down
12:15A conservative blog posted an explicit photo of her
12:20All these years later
12:22It's wild to hear these texts from Anthony to Sarmer
12:25Implying that he had intel or insider knowledge
12:28About this huge scandal
12:29It does make you wonder
12:31Was he involved in that?
12:34Somebody gave me a tip
12:36He had his probation transferred to California
12:39And then he had gotten married
12:44And I found that he had gotten married in Nevada
12:48In Las Vegas
12:50I see that the bride is, you know, Jennifer Louise
12:54And I'm like, okay
12:56I look it up in a database
12:58And I see, you know, AKA Jennifer Van Laar
13:01And I'm like, who the hell is Jennifer?
13:03That's a familiar name
13:04She's the journalist
13:06Who published the Katie Hill photos
13:10Once I knew that he had married Jennifer Van Laar
13:13Then everything else starts to click into place
13:16That he had been texting with Sarmer about politics
13:20And then it's easy for me to go back on Twitter
13:23And search, like, what interactions was he having with her?
13:27Yep, turns out, connected with her the same way
13:29He's connected with Sarmer
13:31Like, oh my God, here we go again
13:34I am now armed with all this
13:36And I keep calling Jennifer Van Laar
13:38And I'm looking for a comment about, you know, Anthony Strangis
13:41Do you know him?
13:43What? No
13:44I have no idea who that is
13:46I don't know what you're talking about
13:47Then she gives me this statement
13:50So she says
13:51I met Anthony Strangis in 2019
13:53And since 2020
13:54He has performed bodyguard services for me
13:57As an investigative journalist
14:01I sometimes receive death threats
14:02Or other threats to minor my family's safety
14:04In August 2021
14:06When we were both in Las Vegas with friends
14:08On a lark we decided to get married
14:10We talked for a few weeks
14:12About whether it could actually work
14:13But eventually decided that we worked best as just friends
14:16He has never asked me or my friends for money
14:19I have filed for divorce
14:20But we remain on good terms
14:30However, I realize when I look at the marriage record
14:33That he goes into that marriage
14:36Anthony Strangis
14:39But when he comes out
14:40Anthony Knight
14:47Anthony Patrick Strangis
14:49He wishes to use the name Anthony Patrick Knight
14:52After marriage
14:53He took a real last name
14:54Why would he do that?
14:56You know, he's infamous now
14:57And so now he's got a new name
15:00That is of extreme use to somebody like him
15:03And so now you go back to the statement
15:05Jennifer Van Laar gave me
15:07Which you can tell is very carefully crafted
15:09And then you think
15:11Is what she's covering up this?
15:15That he was involved somehow in that
15:18Because we don't know
15:20How Jennifer Van Laar got those
15:23Naked drug-using photos of Katie Hill
15:26All it takes is people talking on Reddit
15:28Or talking on Twitter
15:29He had been flirting with Jennifer Van Laar
15:31He knew, oh, she's a journalist
15:33And so he put two and two together
15:34And said, oh, I can connect these two
15:37And then maybe he says to her
15:39Hey, I want one thing from you
15:42Let's go to Vegas
15:43I need your last name
15:44And do you think that was a pivotal moment
15:46In Jennifer's career
15:47When she released the photos?
15:48It made it
15:49It made Jennifer Van Laar
15:51She would definitely feel beholden
15:52To somebody who would help her that way
15:54Learning this information about Jennifer Van Laar
15:57Made Sarma's words echo in my head
15:59It's part of Anthony's MO
16:01To find women with ambition and resources
16:03That he can use for his own personal gain
16:05People like Anthony Strangers
16:07Find people who are a good target
16:09They find people who are public
16:11About their goals and ambitions
16:13So he didn't even have to take the time
16:15That they usually have to take
16:16To study somebody
16:17And learn all their insecurities
16:19And what their goals are
16:20And that stuff was all out there
16:22For him to know and read about
16:24And then they weaponized it
16:26Unfortunately, I made a very good target
16:28This is not him starting his life over
16:30And finding his happily ever after
16:32Is it a working theory?
16:34Is there anything for sure to knock it down?
16:36No
16:37Is there anyone else whose story hasn't been told?
16:39Or anyone you think we should focus on?
16:41Her, Michaela Coulter
16:43Anthony's half-sister
16:45She's never given an interview
16:48I wanted to know how Anthony became this way
16:51What drives him to do these things?
16:54His own sister Michaela
16:55Agreed to fill me in
16:59Growing up, I would say I looked up to Anthony
17:02Me and Anthony, we have about a 13-year age difference
17:04We do have two separate fathers
17:06Which I think that context is important
17:09My dad was not around
17:10So growing up, Anthony was one of my main caregivers
17:14Along with my mom
17:14So he was the one putting me to bed
17:16He was the one taking care of me
17:18He was, like, normal and caring
17:21And he wouldn't hurt a fly
17:24Tell me about Anthony's dad
17:25What was he like?
17:27His dad was always very nice to me
17:30But I know he's done a lot of terrible things
17:33He was a cop
17:34His dad was not nice
17:35His dad was not a good person
17:36He's a compulsive liar and gambler
17:39He taught Anthony how to lie
17:40He taught Anthony how to gamble
17:42Lavish trips and cruises
17:44Disney World
17:46His father created a world that Anthony wanted to live in
17:50That wasn't realistic
17:54I was seven or eight
17:55I was still pretty young when he moved out
17:57He was, like, 18, 19
18:00He moved to Florida with his father
18:01I sat on the road crying
18:04And, like, watched him drive away
18:05Because I was so upset
18:06Like, I did not want him to go
18:09And that was, to me, like, the last time
18:11I ever, like, had my brother
18:12Like, that was him
18:13And then that's kind of where it all started to change
18:17Anthony spent the next few years in Florida
18:19Getting in some trouble with the law
18:21And was charged with impersonating a police officer
18:23And grand larceny
18:26He eventually made his way up to New York
18:28Where he spent the year
18:29Scamming Sarma and her employees
18:32Going on the run
18:33And eventually getting caught
18:37People don't understand
18:38How bad gambling addictions are
18:42It should be spoken about more
18:45His gambling problem
18:47Because I think that's the root of it
18:51His addiction is what feeds all of it
18:55I will say when he got arrested
18:57Me and my mother were relieved
19:00We were happy
19:00Which sounds terrible
19:02But we wanted him to get help for so long
19:04So when he was in jail
19:06I didn't talk to him at all
19:07And then when he got out
19:09Is when he came to live with us
19:10Because he really didn't have anywhere else to go
19:13Anthony lived at my mom's house for a couple years
19:16He was there until he got almost off probation
19:19He got permission from his parole officer and everything
19:22To move to California
19:23And he told us he got a job
19:25Working for the Republican Party
19:28Did he specify to you
19:29What kind of job he was taking
19:31For the Republican Party?
19:33No
19:33We were like 50-50
19:35Could be a lie
19:36Could be fake
19:36He had paperwork
19:37To give to the judge
19:39And the parole officer
19:41To prove what he was going to go do
19:43So we had to believe it
19:45He had a real person saying
19:46He was going to go and work for the Republican Party
19:48So Anthony went from being in a relationship with Sarma
19:51A liberal vegan
19:52To allegedly working for the GOP
19:55How do you think that happened?
19:57So Anthony's relationship with politics
20:00My personal opinion
20:01Is all about the game
20:06And I think he sees an opportunity
20:09To take advantage and manipulate
20:13And I think that's where his political belief is
20:16The power
20:17It's just where can he get more power at that point
20:20For him it's not just money
20:22It's like it's power
20:23The whole thing is a game to him
20:25So it's not just money
20:27Because once he got all the money he could from me
20:30He would have like left and got on a plane to Mexico
20:32And he wouldn't have just sort of spent it
20:34It's like he doesn't really care about it
20:36It's the whole weird power trip
20:37But I think it's dangerous to underestimate these people
20:41Because they are very, very, very smart
20:44As I'm starting to understand Anthony Moore
20:47What makes him tick
20:48And how he pulls off these cons
20:51It's eerie how those who know him best
20:53Have encounters that mirror each other
20:56It seems his gambling addiction
20:58Drives his compulsion to steal money from people
21:00But it's the notoriety
21:02The illusion of importance
21:03That Anthony is really chasing
21:05And what's bigger than embedding yourself
21:08In American politics
21:14Some of this s*** is just really s*** weird
21:17Right?
21:19We're all in this together
21:21There was a video that somebody sent me
21:24From this new Twitter handle
21:27The videos were made early in the COVID pandemic
21:31They are these dark, weird, black and white, like, rants
21:37So I went to Stop and Shop
21:39I asked the manager
21:40Where's all the toilet paper and the paper towels?
21:42Why don't you get that in?
21:43Oh, we've been getting it in, he says
21:45Usually sells out between 6 and 7.30 in the morning
21:48The senior hours
21:50So listen up, you old s***
21:52Who apparently we're shutting everything down for
21:55Stop buying all the s*** toilet paper
21:57And the s*** paper towels
21:59Anthony has clearly figured out
22:01That now he's in this sort of conservative
22:05Or right-wing world
22:07And this is the world that he's going to now operate in
22:11And you're probably buying it for your s***
22:1440-something-year-old dip s*** kids
22:17Stop being a greedy s*** prick
22:19You're supposed to know better
22:20You're older
22:20It's almost to me like he's testing out a new persona
22:24We're all in this together
22:25Drink this Kool-Aid
22:27Here, don't you want this Kool-Aid?
22:31What am I going to catch with this voice?
22:34And I think what he caught was
22:36Jennifer Van Laar
22:38And all these other people in Southern California
22:41When I spoke to Alan
22:43He suggested that I reach out to Eddie McClintock
22:45An actor in Los Angeles
22:47Who met Anthony on?
22:49You guessed it
22:50Well, he slid in my DMs on Twitter
22:54Eddie was part of this group of conservative guys online
22:57That consisted of former and current active military members
23:02As well as some Secret Service agents
23:03Eddie describes Anthony as funny and irreverent
23:06He really won a lot of these guys over
23:08By sharing videos during the pandemic
23:10About his disdain for the shutdowns
23:13You know what's really creepy?
23:14Is everybody saying we're all in this together
23:16It was politically tinged
23:19He says he's a conservative
23:21What?
23:22I just want some f***ing paper towels
23:24I don't want to join a cult
23:26One day Anthony invited Eddie and the group
23:29To Las Vegas for a hot ticket event
23:31A Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier fight
23:35Anthony told them he'd handle everything
23:37From the hotel suite to the tickets
23:39To their food and all their drinks
23:40I flew into Vegas
23:42And I was at the hotel
23:44And he was like
23:45I'm in the Rolex shop
23:46Come to the Rolex shop
23:48I'm looking down in the hall
23:49And I can see into the Rolex shop
23:51And there's one other person
23:53And that person was
23:58Not in good shape
24:00Immediately I thought
24:01I've been catfished
24:03Because on Twitter
24:04He kind of came off
24:06As being in like really good shape
24:08Saying perhaps he worked for like Blackwater
24:11You're getting some steps in
24:12If you work for Blackwater
24:13Yeah
24:14But Eddie's friends had been with Anthony
24:16For a day at this point
24:17And they vouched for him
24:19For being legit
24:21When we get back to LA
24:23That's when Anthony and I
24:24Really became closer
24:27You know
24:27Because my dad was dying
24:30Anthony and I would talk
24:31Pretty much every night on the phone
24:33He asked about my dad
24:35And my dad
24:36You know
24:37My dad passed
24:40In March of 2022
24:45And it was the hardest day of my life
24:49You know
24:49And when I got home
24:54After my dad died
24:55And Anthony
24:56Anthony called me
24:58He was showing up for me
25:00As a friend
25:03And then at one point
25:04We started talking about Rolex watches
25:07Eddie had been eyeing a rare Rolex
25:09A James Cameron deep sea dweller
25:12I told Anthony
25:14I'd really like to get that watch
25:16And he was like
25:17Bro, bro
25:18I can get you that watch
25:19No problem
25:20Because it'll take a couple of months
25:22Because there's a waiting list
25:24For like a year and a half
25:25And Anthony was like
25:26Yeah, I'll get you this watch
25:27So
25:28I gave him $13,000 in cash
25:31And I started getting excuses
25:34And then
25:35One day
25:36My buddy sent me this trailer
25:38For Netflix on my phone
25:40He was like
25:41Watch this right now
25:42And then it was him
25:49After Matt Began came out
25:51We called him
25:52And said
25:53What's going on with this
25:55And Anthony said
25:56That his wife
25:58Used the liberal media
26:00To, you know
26:02Make him out to look like a bad guy
26:05Months and months passed
26:06And Anthony is giving Eddie
26:08Excuse after excuse
26:09As to why he can't get him the watch
26:11Or return his money
26:13The last correspondence
26:15That I had from him
26:16He said, you know
26:17Hey man, I'm not ghosting you
26:18The watch is fine
26:20I just was like
26:21Anthony, come on
26:23What watch?
26:24And ultimately
26:25You never saw the watches
26:26You never saw the money
26:27No
26:28And it was
26:29Really the ultimate
26:31Form of betrayal
26:33By somebody you considered
26:34A really good friend
26:35Yeah
26:35And now that
26:36You know
26:38Anthony's gone
26:38And my dad's gone
26:40And he should have to
26:41You know
26:42Pay for it
26:43Like everybody else does
26:46Eddie's story shares
26:47So many similarities
26:49With Sharma's
26:49As Anthony's first publicly known victim
26:52And probably the person
26:53He spent the most time conning
26:54Every conversation I had with Sharma
26:57Gave incredible insight
26:58Into how Anthony operates
26:59And it seems as though
27:01His tactics have remained the same
27:04Anthony Strange
27:05Was incredibly intuitive
27:07About people's behavior
27:10And feelings
27:11And how to weaponize that
27:13And it's so slow
27:14That by the time
27:15You even realize
27:16That like something's wrong
27:17And off
27:18It's like it's too late
27:19They've already got you
27:20They know what they're doing
27:21They anticipate what's coming
27:23And so they know how to
27:24You know
27:25Find the out
27:26Because it's like
27:27Part of a plan all along
27:28And again
27:29That's why it's so important
27:30I think
27:30To get to know people
27:31And meet them in person
27:33Versus
27:34You know
27:34Getting to know somebody online
27:36Eddie never pressed charges
27:37Knowing that it would be costly
27:39In an uphill battle
27:40Especially considering
27:41That Anthony
27:42Technically never stole money from him
27:44He just convinced Eddie
27:46To give it to him
27:46It seems like he found a loophole
27:48To get what he wanted
27:49Some more money
27:50To fund his gambling habit
27:56Where do you
27:57Think he went
27:59After he left Orange County
28:01I just know he's in Texas somewhere
28:03And I would assume
28:04He's probably
28:05With another girl
28:06And doing some other scheme
28:12At this point
28:13Based on my conversations
28:14It seems like Anthony
28:16Conned his way
28:17Through California
28:19He's got a new identity
28:21He's built this year-long
28:23Friendship with Eddie
28:24Only to steal from him
28:25And disappear
28:28All of this
28:29After he allegedly
28:30Coerced Sarma
28:31And left her in New York
28:33To pay back
28:34All of his victims
28:35So I decided that Anthony
28:38Doesn't get to hide anymore
28:40Because right now
28:41He could have a new
28:43Unsuspecting victim
28:44In his grasp
28:45If there's a way to prevent it
28:47I will not sit here
28:48And let one more person
28:49Fall victim to Anthony
28:55Michaela suspects that Anthony
28:56Is in Texas
28:58Although he was very careful
28:59Not to tell her which city
29:00She has no recent photos of him
29:02But their last correspondence
29:03Included photos of some dogs
29:06Unfortunately
29:07He turned off the metadata
29:08So again
29:09No real way to figure out
29:10Exactly where he is
29:12So I brought on
29:14A private investigator
29:15In Texas
29:15Catherine Meyer
29:18Catherine immediately
29:19Found an address
29:20In Austin
29:20That matched Anthony Knight
29:22His new identity
29:23There's 65 pages here
29:27And she also found
29:28His name registered
29:29To an Audi SUV
29:30We have another name
29:33Linked to the one
29:33We believe he's driving now
29:35So I sent a crew to Texas
29:37To go stake out
29:38The apartment with Catherine
29:40Can you hear us?
29:41Hello, hello
29:42We're on our way
29:43To location number one
29:44Right now
29:46You guys know
29:47What you're looking for
29:47A mountain of a man
29:49This is a location confirmation
29:51We do not want
29:52To approach him
29:53We do not want
29:54To give him any indication
29:55That he is being watched
29:57I have done some OSINT
30:00Open source intelligence
30:01Searches
30:02And haven't found
30:03Much more than
30:04The articles
30:05That have already
30:06Been written on him
30:07So that obviously
30:08Tells me
30:09That he is trying
30:11To keep a low profile
30:13So that's all
30:14I really have
30:15To go on right now
30:16I'm hoping that
30:17We have a lot more
30:18By the end of the day
30:19I just cannot stress enough
30:21How high the stakes are
30:22Because if he even
30:23Senses anything
30:24He's gone
30:25And I don't want him
30:26To run before I get
30:27An opportunity to speak
30:28With him and find out
30:29If he has a new victim
30:29In his grasp
30:30You got it
30:31We're doing everything
30:32We can
30:32We'll keep you posted
30:38In my interview with Alan
30:39He mentioned a tip he got
30:40About the fact that
30:42Anthony had somehow
30:43Wormed his way
30:44Into this family
30:44Called the Johnsons
30:45In Southern California
30:46I want to talk to them
30:49I want to see
30:49What he did to them
30:51And also if they have
30:52Any idea about
30:53His whereabouts now
30:55I've tried writing
30:56I've tried calling
30:56I've received no response
30:58So now I'm going to
31:00Go knock on their door
31:03Anthony to no surprise
31:05Picked this very small
31:06Insular and affluent
31:08Coastal town in Orange County
31:12So here is the Johnsons house
31:14And it definitely
31:17Looks like someone is home
31:33Hi Mrs. Johnson
31:54Hi Mrs. Johnson
31:56My name is Elizabeth Chambers
31:57We are doing a documentary
31:58On Anthony Strangus
32:00And I wanted to see
32:00If I could possibly
32:01Have a few minutes
32:01Save your time
32:02To ask you some questions
32:03No I'm not interested
32:05In talking about this
32:06It would just take
32:07A couple minutes
32:08Absolutely not
32:09No
32:09Do you know him
32:10Do you know Anthony
32:11No sorry
32:11Sorry
32:13Thank you
32:19Mrs. Johnson was home
32:20And answered the door
32:21But her reaction
32:23When I asked her
32:23About Anthony
32:24Was very unusual
32:25That was weird
32:27Turned completely white
32:28So freaked out
32:30Like I'm shaking
32:32There's just so much
32:33History there
32:33You can tell
32:34She completely froze
32:35She knew exactly
32:37Who he was
32:37Her face completely fell
32:39She turned white
32:40Do you think
32:41They're just embarrassed
32:41I think that
32:42For people in general
32:44When people are conned
32:46There's always
32:47An element of shame
32:48If it were me
32:49I'd say
32:50What do you know
32:50About him
32:51There's clearly
32:52A lot more
32:53To this story
32:54A lot
32:57According to Alan
32:58They had a neighbor
32:58Named Glenn
32:59Who saw Anthony
33:01Coming and going
33:02And rightfully so
33:04Thought that was
33:04Very very strange
33:05So I think
33:07We got to try him
33:08And maybe he'll
33:09Be more open to talking
33:17As I was on the trail
33:18In Southern California
33:19Catherine and my team
33:20Were looking deeper
33:21Into this vehicle
33:22That was registered
33:23To Anthony
33:23And they found
33:24Another person
33:25Attached to it as well
33:26A woman
33:27She's listed as the part
33:29As the co-owner
33:30Of this car
33:31This year
33:32Owners
33:33Anthony Nyan
33:41And the same woman
33:43Was also listed
33:44On the address
33:45In Austin
33:49Perfect
33:50So not only
33:52Had we potentially
33:52Located Anthony
33:54But as Kayla suspected
33:55He may be living there
33:56With a new girlfriend
33:57Who could potentially
33:59Be his next victim
34:12Hello
34:13Hey so we actually
34:14Got in touch
34:14With the clan
34:15Amazing
34:16Amazing news
34:17Is he still
34:18In this town
34:19He is
34:20So he's got an office
34:21We found the office
34:22And we called him there
34:23And he said
34:24You can come talk to him
34:25Today?
34:26Right now?
34:27Yeah
34:28Let's go
34:31After seeing
34:32Mrs. Johnson's reaction
34:33It seemed emotional
34:34Very very emotional
34:35For her
34:36So I'm really
34:37Looking forward
34:38To seeing
34:38And hearing
34:39What Glenn noticed
34:41What he witnessed
34:56Hey dude
34:57You see this guy
34:59Which guy?
35:00This guy just pulled up
35:01In a Honda
35:04Dog in the car
35:08That could be him
35:10That definitely
35:11Could be him
35:11I am now as well
35:13He's right on the other
35:13Side of that track
35:15No yeah
35:15We see him
35:16Oh it's a little corgi
35:17Okay
35:22Let's just see where he's going
35:23Yeah
35:28My team in Texas
35:29Spotted someone
35:30Who perfectly matched
35:31The physical description
35:32I had for Anthony Strangis
35:36Nope
35:39But he went into
35:40The wrong apartment
35:40Damn it
35:43With no sign of Anthony
35:45The team decided
35:46To get a closer look
35:47This little ribbon cam
35:49Wired with a button cam
35:51Catherine
35:51Opposing as a leasing agent
35:53Went to knock on the door
35:55All right
35:55Wish me luck
36:08Thank you so much
36:09For taking this time
36:10We have a lot of questions
36:12About Anthony
36:13And the Johnson family
36:14Tell me a little bit
36:15About your first impression
36:17He was introduced to us
36:18Through Lindsay
36:22Hi Mrs. Johnson
36:24She brought him over
36:26For a game of cards
36:28Anthony was very bright
36:30Very articulate
36:32I would say
36:33He's a very commanding
36:34Sort of person
36:35But he was kind of
36:36Elusive in
36:38So what do you do
36:39Anthony
36:39And well
36:40You know
36:40Work for the government
36:42Kind of in special operations
36:44And black ops
36:45Immediately my wife
36:47Thought
36:47Hmm
36:48I don't know about this guy
36:51She never sort of
36:53Gave him the benefit
36:54Of the doubt
36:54But
36:56I did
36:58So I'll give an example
36:59He knew I was very interested
37:01In politics at the time
37:03It was the 2020 election
37:05I was actually very interested
37:07In running for some sort of seat
37:08And then all of a sudden
37:10He was an expert in super PACs
37:12A super PAC
37:14Is a political action committee
37:16Essentially it's a recognized group
37:17Used to raise funds
37:19For campaigns
37:19Or political figures
37:21There's no limit
37:22To the funds raised
37:23And they've gotten
37:24The reputation
37:24For being fertile ground
37:25For scams
37:26We actually got to the point
37:28Where we started
37:29A super PAC
37:31His motivation was
37:32If you raise money
37:33As a super PAC
37:34You're entitled
37:36To take 20%
37:37Of the money you raise
37:38For expenses
37:39And overhead
37:40And so
37:41He could see
37:42A super PAC
37:43Providing him cash
37:45Anthony
37:46Is a compulsive gambler
37:48And I think
37:49All his motivation
37:50For money
37:51And everything else
37:51Is to feed that habit
37:53He asked myself
37:55And Lindsay combined
37:58I'd give him $150,000
37:59And my wife said
38:01Are you nuts?
38:02So
38:03I just did as I was told
38:05And told him to get lost
38:06Honestly
38:06Based on how he's treated
38:07People in the past
38:08I think you would have
38:09Never seen that money again
38:10We know his patterns
38:11We know what he does
38:12Yeah
38:12He steals from people
38:14And nobody ever
38:16Ever, ever, ever
38:16Sees that money
38:17But I think Lindsay
38:19Might have given him
38:20The money
38:22Now Mr. Johnson
38:24Had a medical condition
38:25He is 80
38:27Mrs. Johnson
38:29Is quite significantly
38:30Younger
38:31About 20 years younger
38:32Yeah
38:32And what do you think
38:34Mrs. Johnson's
38:35Relationship with Anthony
38:36Was?
38:37How would you describe it?
38:39They obviously
38:39Were very close
38:40He was very embedded
38:41Into the family life
38:43I surmised
38:44There was a relationship
38:45Going on there
38:47And I know
38:48Mr. Johnson's
38:50Older son Mark
38:51Was concerned
38:52About what was going on here
38:53Mark decided
38:54It was time to end it
38:56And force the issue
38:58Especially after
38:59Bad Vegan
39:00Came out
39:04We saw the show
39:05And we were just
39:06Gobsmacked
39:07I mean
39:07We just couldn't believe
39:08Everyone was numb
39:09Really
39:10Because
39:10He'd been
39:12Into our lives
39:13He was part of the
39:14Culture of our friendship
39:15Right
39:17Did you and your wife
39:18Reach out to Lindsay
39:19After Bad Vegan came out?
39:20I know my wife
39:21Reached out to her
39:22And said listen
39:23Stuff happens in life
39:25You know
39:26We've always been friends
39:27Can we sit down
39:28And talk about it?
39:30And Lindsay
39:30Never responded
39:31Never has
39:33Maybe she feels like
39:34She loves him
39:36And you know
39:37He's convinced her
39:38That it's just a story
39:40It's all a pack of lies
39:42Because I believe
39:43He'd have that ability
39:44Over her
39:45I mean but that
39:46Is a testament
39:47To how manipulative
39:48And controlling he is
39:49Exactly
39:53If you could say one thing
39:55To Anthony
39:56What would that be?
39:58Why?
39:59I understand
40:00You've got a gambling habit
40:02But why would you just
40:04Rip people off
40:07And he's just a bad guy
40:09And that's really
40:10What it comes down to
40:11Allegedly
40:12Anthony is leaving
40:14A string of victims
40:15In his wake
40:15And he's doing it
40:16In the sickest way possible
40:18By leveraging people's love
40:20And trust in him
40:21As family
40:21And friends
40:22And otherwise
40:22And
40:24He needs to be exposed
40:27Hey!
40:37Next time
40:38On Toxic
40:39He has
40:41Obviously eluded us
40:43And
40:43I want to know
40:44How he did it
40:45This is interesting
40:46Just phone numbers
40:48That come back
40:49To defense contractors
40:51This is major
40:52Holy
40:53This is like the girl
40:55That we believe
40:56Anthony's with
40:56Everything matches
40:58Everything lines up
40:59She's an outspoken Republican
41:01This is on her social media
41:02She may have no idea
41:04Who she's dealing with
41:06His current alias
41:08Anthony Knight
41:09Was listed in a directory
41:12That's huge
41:13That's huge
41:14Everyone in Anthony's life
41:16Is a potential victim
41:17I knew I had to act fast
41:23Anthony
41:24We gotta go
41:25We gotta go
41:26We gotta go
