Plans to secure UNESCO status for Birkenhead Park have received a funding boost to develop a long-term vision. Community engagement and research will help shape the park’s future direction.

00:00Birkenhead Park is at the centre of a new plan aimed at shaping its future for decades to come.
00:07It follows the award of £177,700 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
00:14This comes alongside £50,000 from World Council, taking the total project value to £227,700.
00:23The funding is part of work connected to the park's bid for UNESCO recognition,
00:27with a focus on developing a long-term master plan rather than delivering immediate physical improvements.
00:33Detailed building and landscape surveys will be carried out alongside work to explore biodiversity improvements
00:39and an environmental sustainability framework.
00:42A key part of the project will be community engagement throughout the process.
00:47Public consultation will look at opportunities for health and wellbeing activities,
00:51environmental education and volunteering, as well as how people currently use the space.
00:56Automated visitor counters and audience research will also be introduced to better understand
01:01who is using the park, and to identify barriers for those who aren't.
