00:28You
00:43Oh, could I see him?
01:19I guess I've really done it this time, huh?
01:26I don't know.
01:27Sorry, Dad.
01:27It's okay.
01:29It's okay.
01:29It's okay.
01:30Come on.
01:33Take a seat.
01:36Because we got, uh...
01:39I gotta...
01:40I gotta...
01:44We...
01:50I don't know where to begin.
02:00How's Grandma?
02:03She's good.
02:05She sends her love.
02:08Okay.
02:12Should we get around to fixing the NEC?
02:19I don't know what to say.
02:24Okay.
02:27Well...
02:29Neither do I.
02:31I didn't realize how sick you were.
02:37You need help.
02:40Okay.
02:42No, but I mean...
02:44You know, like from a professional.
02:46You know.
02:49Because...
02:50I still think you can be treated.
02:54You know, I...
02:57Because I...
02:59You know, I have to hope you can get better.
03:06Because...
03:06I just...
03:12I've just been trying to think how this all happened.
03:16Because...
03:16I didn't raise you to be like this.
03:20Yeah.
03:21Yeah.
03:21So why do you think you...
03:27Why'd you do it?
03:32I don't know.
03:33Okay.
03:35Well...
03:36See?
03:37No, that's not gonna cut it.
03:40I'm sorry.
03:41Well...
03:42Hey, Jeff.
03:44I don't need you to say sorry.
03:50I need to know why.
03:53Because there needs to be some responsibility here.
03:56What you've done to the family.
03:58To grandma.
03:59To Sherry and me.
04:02Hmm.
04:04I mean, do you...
04:08Do you have any idea how this all started?
04:10Do you?
04:12I don't know.
04:16I mean...
04:18I've been...
04:19Thinking about it...
04:21A lot.
04:23You know?
04:28Because I used to...
04:35Well...
04:36Remember when you...
04:38He used to take me to go and find Roadkill, and we'd cut him up.
04:43Oh, no, no, no.
04:46You're not going to lay this on me.
04:47No.
04:48No.
04:51It's not my fault.
04:53I didn't do this.
04:55I was a good dad to you.
04:57I know.
04:58I mean, uh, the...
05:03Um, the...
05:05All I... what I was doing was I was showing concern for my son, who finally showed an interest in
05:10something.
05:10Okay, Dad.
05:11You know, I mean, what you did, I didn't teach you how to do that.
05:13No.
05:14You hear me?
05:15Okay.
05:20I didn't do this.
05:33Good choice, Donald.
05:35Let's go.
05:36Here she is.
05:37This is Dahmer.
05:38This is Dahmer.
05:38What did we talk to you about your son, Jeffrey?
05:40How do you feel about the crimes he's been killed?
05:42This is Dahmer.
05:42Oh, please leave me alone.
05:43Do you know why your son ate people?
05:45Why does he think they're talking about black and Latino gay men?
05:47Do you think these were hate crimes?
05:48Are you going to leave me alone?
05:49Leave me responsible for you.
05:50Ah, my name is not Dahmer!
06:13Isaac Richards.
06:23I have the results of your HIV test.
06:35You're negative.
06:38You're negative.
06:46Jesus.
07:01I'm...
07:03I'm...
07:04I'm...
07:15Ma'am, why are you crying?
07:20It's just my hand.
07:27Um, I'm just so happy you don't have to give your mother any bad news.
07:42Sweetheart?
07:45Lionel, what are you doing?
07:47I'm just, uh, I'm up early.
07:50You never came to bed.
07:53I'm sorry, what did you say?
07:58Honey, we need to talk.
08:05Honey, you have to sleep.
08:07This isn't healthy.
08:08My schedule's all messed up.
08:10Well, you should be using this time just to rest.
08:15I can't rest, Sherry.
08:17Then we need to see a doctor and get you some sleeping pills.
08:21Because five nights in a row of not sleeping is not healthy.
08:24Yeah, that'll do it.
08:25Yeah, more pills.
08:26That's just what this family needs.
08:28You do know that pills are what started this whole thing.
08:31You know that.
08:31Just calm down.
08:32How many pills do you think she was on when she was pregnant with him?
08:35Thousands.
08:36She was sleeping pills, sedatives, seizure medication.
08:39She didn't give him a fucking chance.
08:42Ron, you can't blame Joyce for this.
08:44The fuck I can't.
08:47Because it's her fault.
08:51She wasn't a mother.
08:54She never even held him.
08:56Stop screaming.
08:57She scared the shit out of him.
09:00And then she just left.
09:02She got in her car and she drove away and she left that kid in that house all summer.
09:08Where were you that summer, Lionel?
09:12Oh, God.
09:13No, I'm sorry.
09:14I didn't mean that.
09:16Oh, hey.
09:17We are in this together.
09:20I should have checked up on him.
09:21I didn't check up on him.
09:23But you didn't know.
09:24Go.
09:29He's got my genes, Sherry.
09:32Half of that boy is me.
09:34And I...
09:37I've had thoughts like him, I think.
09:40I used to.
09:44I used to try to make explosives.
09:49And I would use fireworks and I would tie a little army guy to them.
09:53And one day I brought a homemade bomb to school.
10:00And I threw it out the goddamn window for Christ's sake.
10:04Oh, honey, that's not the same thing.
10:06No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
10:08No.
10:08No, listen.
10:13But I had fantasies like him, too, I think.
10:18There was a neighborhood girl and she lived on our block.
10:21And I tried to hypnotize her because, I don't know,
10:32to get her to do whatever I wanted.
10:38And I used to sit in church
10:46and think what it would be like to kill someone, to murder them.
10:53And I had nightmares about it for a while.
10:55I did.
10:58But it wasn't about how I killed someone
11:02because, uh, it was about how I'd already done it.
11:08Knowing that I'd kill someone
11:09and not knowing what to do.
11:13But you didn't.
11:16You know, there is nothing wrong with your genes, honey.
11:19I mean, just look at David.
11:21He's got half your DNA and he's a nice, normal kid.
11:25Wouldn't you say?
11:28Yeah.
11:29Yeah.
11:34Yeah.
11:35Yeah.
11:36Yeah.
11:41Welcome to the Bislav,
11:42to see a democracy.
11:48Oh, my God.
11:52Oh, my God.
11:54Oh, my God.
11:55Oh, my God.
11:56Oh, my God.
12:03Sir, you're not allowed to be here.
12:05You can't go in there, sir.
12:11Jeff!
12:13He's probably asleep upstairs.
12:14It's so early.
12:15Leave her alone.
12:16Sir, you cannot be in here.
12:17She's my mother.
12:18Get him out of here.
12:19You're scaring her.
12:20You have no right to be in here.
12:20This is a crime scene, sir.
12:22Your son killed people in this house, Mr. Dahmer.
12:24You understand that?
12:25You have no right to be in here.
12:25He's cooperating with us.
12:27You know that, right?
12:27Look, she has dementia.
12:28You come in here, you start going through her stuff,
12:30she's going to have a nervous breakdown.
12:31Jeff!
12:32Come on.
12:32You come down here.
12:33Come on, please.
12:34Just let me put her in her room.
12:36We'll be out of your way.
12:37Please.
12:38Please.
12:39Come on.
12:43There's that queen.
12:47Lionel?
12:50Oh, yeah.
12:54Um, okay.
12:57Oh.
13:01Oh.
13:05Don't you remove me?
13:10Today, the city of Milwaukee is hurting.
13:16Jeffrey Dahmer's heinous crimes have not only shocked the nation,
13:22they've inflicted a painful and devastating wound on this community.
13:30Now, some folks have asked me,
13:34going out to Milwaukee.
13:37Dahmer's been caught.
13:39Aren't you just stirring up more division?
13:44Those folks, I say,
13:47I come here today not to sow division,
13:50but to call for accountability.
13:55Dahmer's crimes were committed in a vacuum.
13:59Many people, including officers of the law,
14:03turned a blind eye,
14:04which is why he was able to do what he did for so long.
14:10But you're lucky you've got a strong leader
14:13in police chief, Areola.
14:16The chief told me he's planning to launch a thorough investigation
14:20into what went wrong,
14:22especially that incident involving that young boy,
14:26Conorick Sintasaphone.
14:29But let me be clear.
14:32We are not content
14:33to simply listen
14:36to words,
14:38comforting words.
14:39Words like healing,
14:44cooling down,
14:46coming together.
14:49Those are all code words that mean exactly the same thing.
14:55Let's sweep this under the rug.
15:00We will not be satisfied.
15:02We will not rest
15:04until the conditions
15:06no longer exist
15:08that would allow
15:08someone like Jeffrey Dahmer
15:10to murder 17 young men,
15:13many of them black and brown.
15:15We will not rest
15:16until justice prevails
15:18for all citizens in this city.
15:20We will not rest
15:21until empty words
15:23or replace with decisive action.
15:25We will not rest.
15:27We will not rest.
15:28We will not rest.
15:37This isn't fair, chief.
15:38You can't suspend us.
15:39We did nothing wrong.
15:41Nothing wrong.
15:42You returned an underage boy
15:43back to a serial killer
15:44that would eventually kill him.
15:46You didn't check his identification
15:47or his age.
15:49You ignored witnesses
15:50you didn't do a background check on Dahmer.
15:52We didn't see a need
15:53to do a background check on Dahmer.
15:54Well, if you had,
15:55you would have seen that Dahmer
15:56was still on probation
15:56for child molestation.
15:58Look, the kid looked like an adult, all right?
16:00We thought it was
16:01a boyfriend-boyfriend thing.
16:02So I guess that's why
16:03you had to get de-loused
16:04after the incident.
16:05That is what you told Dispatch, isn't it?
16:07We have it on tape.
16:08That was a joke.
16:09Then there's Glenda Cleveland,
16:11Dahmer's neighbor.
16:12She claims that she called
16:13multiple times about him,
16:14but you ignored her request.
16:15Whose side are you on?
16:17This isn't about sides.
16:18Your boy's screwed up,
16:19and I'm under a lot of pressure.
16:20I have the mayor,
16:21the community, Jesse Jackson.
16:23The whole damn country
16:24is breathing down my neck.
16:25I have to do something.
16:26You're our police chief.
16:27You're supposed to have our backs.
16:30You'll both be on paid leave
16:32until the panel finishes its investigation,
16:34after which we'll make
16:35a final determination.
16:41You know what?
16:43Our union reps are going to fight this.
16:46You can't fire us, trust me.
16:49We will be here long after you.
16:57Did you think that Jeffrey Dahmer
16:58was going to eat you?
17:00Yeah.
17:03I did.
17:07See, it's going to eat my heart.
17:10Heroin stuff.
17:12His name is Tracy Edwards,
17:14the man who was almost
17:16Jeffrey Dahmer's final victim.
17:18Thank you, Tracy,
17:19for telling your story.
17:20Our next guest
17:22is a childhood friend
17:23of Jeffrey Dahmer's
17:23who agreed to come on the show
17:25on condition of anonymity,
17:27and he's got a story
17:28that's a Geraldo exclusive.
17:30We'll call him Nick.
17:32Thank you for coming on the show.
17:35Thank you for having me.
17:37I understand you had
17:39a sexual relationship
17:41with Jeffrey Dahmer.
17:42How did you meet him?
17:44We were on the yearbook staff.
17:46Jeffrey was not on the yearbook staff.
17:47Shh, shh, shh.
17:48I mean,
17:48where did this
17:50sexual activity take place?
17:52At his house.
17:54Did you meet his family?
17:56Oh, yeah.
17:57He had a stepmother
17:59who was like
18:00a stepmother from hell
18:02screaming at him all the time.
18:05It's just all lies.
18:07It's my second wife, Sherry.
18:09And he said to me,
18:12he told me that he was
18:16sexually molested
18:17by his father.
18:19I'm not watching this.
18:21Nick?
18:23Jeffrey Dahmer told me
18:24Well, that's not true.
18:26No, it's not true.
18:28None of it's true.
18:29Well, sweetheart,
18:30what can you do?
18:31I don't know.
18:31I don't know.
18:33I gotta do something.
18:38What?
18:44You're on the cover of Newsweek
18:45and People magazine.
18:59You think I could take
19:01these with me?
19:02Just to read?
19:04No, you can't.
19:09Hmm.
19:12What do they say?
19:14Well, what do they say?
19:15It's not good, Jeff.
19:17They're saying
19:18you're the Milwaukee cannibal.
19:20People want to kill you.
19:21They want you dead.
19:24Well, fine.
19:25I want that, too.
19:27No, no, no.
19:27No, you don't.
19:29Wisconsin doesn't have
19:30the death penalty.
19:32Well, they're talking
19:33about bringing it back, though.
19:35Because of me, right?
19:36No, no, no, Jeff.
19:37Just get that
19:38out of your head.
19:39No.
19:41Look.
19:43It doesn't help
19:44anybody
19:45for you to spend
19:46the rest of your life
19:47in prison.
19:48Okay?
19:49You need help.
19:50And there's really
19:51only one way
19:52we can do that.
19:53That's right.
19:53Yeah.
19:54For you to get
19:55the help you need
19:56so we can understand
19:57all this,
19:57we have to convince
19:58the judge
19:59that you're insane, Jeff.
20:03But I'm not insane.
20:05Well, at the time
20:06of the killings, then.
20:09No.
20:09No, I wasn't then, either.
20:11Gee, come on, Jeff.
20:13When you kill people,
20:14you cut them up,
20:15you had sex with them.
20:18You had to stop
20:18dismembering them
20:19so you could
20:19masturbate on them.
20:21But it wasn't crazy.
20:22It was just like
20:23a compulsion.
20:25Right.
20:25Okay.
20:26So you had a compulsion,
20:27which means
20:28you couldn't stop.
20:29Yeah.
20:30Jeff, come on.
20:31Come on,
20:32you talked about demon.
20:34You said
20:34that you were possessed
20:35and you said
20:37that you'd wake up
20:38and you'd remember
20:39what you did.
20:40Because I was
20:40blackout drunk, Dad.
20:43That's why
20:43I didn't remember
20:44some stuff.
20:46But I knew
20:46what I was doing.
20:49Didn't want to,
20:50but
20:53couldn't help myself.
20:56I'm not insane.
20:58No, Jeff, no, no.
21:02You're not going to say
21:03that in court.
21:04Just, you're not.
21:08Because we've got
21:09something now, okay?
21:10We've got a legal precedent.
21:13There's a previous case
21:15that's very similar to yours.
21:17And it wasn't too far
21:18from here.
21:19What this guy did
21:21is just very similar.
21:23It was a while ago,
21:25back when I was a kid.
21:26This was in Plainfield,
21:28November 16, 1957.
21:3057.
21:3157.
21:34The owner of a hardware store,
21:36she disappears.
21:36No one knows where she is.
21:39Her son tells the police
21:41that a man by the name
21:43of Ed Gein
21:44had been there
21:46the evening before.
21:48So they go to his house.
21:53Nobody's there.
21:55So they walk around the back
21:57and find his shed.
22:07Jesus Christ.
22:10And there's the woman's body,
22:12all cut up,
22:13hanging from the rafters.
22:15So they arrest him.
22:17He doesn't say a thing.
22:21For 30 hours straight,
22:23he just sits there.
22:27Finally, he pipes up.
22:30I'd like an apple pie
22:32and a slice of cheese.
22:35Then he starts talking.
22:37They search the house.
22:40They find the woman's head
22:41in a burlap sack.
22:43And there's just body parts
22:45everywhere.
22:48Bowls made out of people's skulls.
22:51He had skulls on his bedposts.
22:55He upholstered his chairs
22:57with human skin.
23:01And just like you, Jeff,
23:03you know, you said
23:03you tried to dig up a body once.
23:08Yeah, just once.
23:09Yeah, well, it turns out
23:10this guy,
23:11he did it like 30, 40 times
23:13digging up bodies.
23:15Oh, wow.
23:16They looked in the coffins.
23:17They were empty.
23:20And he went to a kind of a daze
23:23when he did these things.
23:23And then he would kind of wake up
23:25and he couldn't remember
23:27what happened.
23:29Did he have sex
23:30with the bodies he dug up?
23:32Okay, okay.
23:32Jeff, here.
23:34Ed Gein,
23:36the point is
23:37he killed a lot of people too,
23:38okay?
23:39And there's no denying that.
23:41But he entered a plea
23:43of not guilty
23:43by reason of insanity
23:45and he didn't spend
23:45the rest of his life in prison.
23:47He spent the rest of his life
23:49in a hospital
23:50getting the psychiatric help
23:51that he needed.
23:53You see?
23:53We can do the same thing
23:55for you, Jeff.
23:58Hmm.
24:03Well, that does sound familiar.
24:06What?
24:10I've read about him.
24:14You know, it was a comic book.
24:16I read about him, I think.
24:18I'm sorry,
24:19did you say a comic book?
24:22Yeah, it was one of those
24:24weird tales ones
24:25or something.
24:27Spooky stuff.
24:31I remember the cover, I think.
24:34A fucking comic book.
24:36I mean, well,
24:37now we know where the fault lies
24:39in the whole culture.
24:40Who writes a comic book like that?
24:41Yeah.
24:41I mean, that's something.
24:42Mr. Dahmer,
24:43you've got to understand
24:44the weight of what it's like
24:47representing somebody like Jeff.
24:49We've got to stay focused here.
24:51We hold fast
24:52and stick with the insanity plea.
24:54So when we do that,
24:55do we still have to go through
24:56the whole trial?
24:57Yeah.
24:57And I think we lean into it.
25:00We don't argue the murders
25:01aren't gruesome.
25:02They are.
25:03I think that helps our case.
25:04The jury has hereby determined
25:08that Mr. Dahmer was of sound mind
25:10and not legally insane
25:13with respect to all of the 15 counts
25:18of first-degree murder
25:19he's confessed to,
25:20which means his victim's families
25:22can rest assured
25:23that he will be sent to prison.
25:31Court shall recess till Monday,
25:34at which time victim's family members
25:36will be allowed
25:36to make impact statements
25:38to the court
25:38and the defendant will be allowed
25:40to make a statement of his own
25:41before sentencing.
25:43Court is adjourned
25:44till Monday at 9 a.m.
26:12So that's it, huh?
26:13You're leaving, huh?
26:22What do you want me to say, Lionel?
26:24Well, I would like you
26:24to take some responsibility.
26:25Maybe.
26:26Lionel.
26:28Responsibility?
26:28What does that mean?
26:29It's just what it means.
26:30So you're saying this is my fault?
26:33No.
26:33No, he's not.
26:34Yeah, well, as of now,
26:35I'm taking the blame for this.
26:37Have you read what they've said about me?
26:39I mean, I've not heard a word from you
26:41about the awful lies
26:42they're spreading about me.
26:43Well, I don't know
26:44what the hell you did with them
26:45when I wasn't there.
26:46Oh, is that right?
26:48And you say I did this to him?
26:50Well, it is not my fault,
26:52you son of a bitch.
26:53It's nobody's fault.
26:54You think?
26:54It's not about you.
26:56You're cutting up roadkill with him
26:58in the fucking garage, Lionel!
27:01Yeah, oh, yeah, just walk away, Joyce.
27:02Just like you walked away from your son.
27:04Lionel.
27:05You still on those pills, huh?
27:07How many have fucking taken?
27:08Lionel!
27:09Lionel!
27:09Stop it!
27:11Thanks.
27:13All right, I'm sorry.
27:13I'm sorry.
27:14I'm sorry.
27:15I've got it.
27:15Okay, forgive me.
27:16I'm sorry.
27:16I'm sorry.
27:18It's okay.
27:18I'm so sorry.
27:20I'm so sorry.
27:31I'm sorry.
27:45I'm sorry.
27:50May I help you?
27:52Miss Strotter?
27:53Yes.
27:54I'm Joyce Flint.
27:56I know who you are.
27:58Is your daughter Dorothy here?
28:00Curtis' mother?
28:02She's not.
28:03What is it you want, Miss Flint?
28:05Well, first, let me just say how deeply, deeply sorry I am for what happened.
28:14And for what my son did to your grandson, Curtis, I realize there's nothing I can say.
28:27It's unforgivable.
28:29Why are you here, Miss Flint?
28:37I came here because I was hoping to speak to you or your daughter as a mother.
28:50To ask if, if either of you might be willing to say something in court tomorrow on behalf of Jeff.
29:03On behalf of Jeff?
29:07That the judge might consider sending him to a mental facility and not to prison.
29:15You want us to forgive your son?
29:19Ask the judge to forgive him?
29:21No.
29:27I feel for you, ma'am.
29:29Truly, I do.
29:32You want your truth as a mother to be heard.
29:34I understand that.
29:36But maybe now it's time for you to listen to somebody else's truth.
29:41You understand?
29:44Let's hear the first impact statement.
29:55My family and I came to this country by boat.
30:02We were poor, but we were hopeful.
30:15We believed in the American dream.
30:17But now, we're living in a nightmare.
30:34And it's all because of Jeffrey Dahmer.
30:44He robbed us of our son, Conrack.
30:51He robbed us of our dream.
31:00My name is Shirley Hughes, and I'm Tony Hughes' mother.
31:05I would like to say to Jeffrey Dahmer that he don't know the pain, the hurt, the loss, and the
31:14mental state he's put our family in.
31:17But I'd just like to read a poem that a good friend of my son's wrote.
31:25Why are you attacking me, Jeffrey?
31:27I thought you were my friend.
31:30Why am I a victim in your cruel and evil world?
31:34Look at the tears rolled down my face.
31:36See that each one is a cry for help and realize that I want to live.
31:42What have I done to you to make you such a maniac, to make you such a devil?
31:48Why did this happen to a person like Eddie?
31:52He gave so much and asked for so little.
31:57All he wanted was a chance to be himself.
32:02When you killed my brother, you killed my mother and father.
32:10I beg you, Your Honor, don't let this man ever walk the streets or see daylight again.
32:19Good morning, Honor.
32:21My name is Donald Bredoft.
32:25I'm, uh, for the Bredoft family.
32:31As much as love in our family closed,
32:36my mother gave five beautiful kids.
32:42We lost.
32:44He destroyed the baby of the family.
32:49And I hope you go to hell.
32:52I love this world.
32:55You guys did a wonderful job.
32:58Bottom of my heart, thank to God,
33:01I got a lot of strength.
33:08Thank you all.
33:11God bless America.
33:13I'll never get a chance again
33:15to tell him that I loved him.
33:19You took my mother's oldest grandchild from her.
33:23And for that,
33:24I can never forgive you.
33:27Mom, I'm gone.
33:29I know there's a dragon piercing your heart
33:31day and night because of this.
33:33But yet I'm not far away.
33:37Two fingers
33:38and one thumb
33:40means I love you
33:42in sign language.
33:44When you cry, Mom,
33:47place one teardrop outside your window ledge.
33:50And when I pass by,
33:52I'll exchange it for one of mine.
33:54And then I'll always be with you.
33:58Two fingers and one thumb.
34:01Your son, Tony.
34:18My name is Rita Isbell,
34:20and I am the oldest sister of Errol Lindsay.
34:22Jeff,
34:24whatever your name is, Satan.
34:27I'm mad.
34:29This is how you act
34:30when you are out of control.
34:32Now, I don't want to ever
34:33have to see my mother go through this again.
34:36Never, Jeffrey.
34:37Jeffrey!
34:38I hate you, motherfucker.
34:40I hate you.
34:42This is out of control.
34:44Don't fuck with me, Jeffrey.
34:45I'll kill you, goddammit.
34:46Look at me.
34:47Look at me, motherfucker.
34:51Mr. Dahmer,
34:52before I impose sentence,
34:54I understand you have a statement
34:56you'd like to read?
34:57Yes, Your Honor.
35:25Your Honor.
35:28It is over now.
35:30This has never been a case
35:32of trying to get free.
35:34I didn't ever want freedom.
35:37Frankly, I wanted death for myself.
35:41This was a case to tell the world
35:43that I did what I did,
35:45not for reasons of hate.
35:47I hated no one.
35:49I knew I was sick or evil or both.
35:53Now I believe I was sick.
35:55The doctors have told me
35:57about my sickness
35:58and now I have some peace.
36:01I know how much harm
36:02I have caused
36:03and I tried to do
36:05the best I could
36:06after the arrest
36:07to make amends.
36:08But no matter what I did,
36:10I could not undo
36:11the terrible harm
36:12I have caused.
36:14My attempt to help
36:15identify the remains
36:16was the best
36:18that I could do
36:19and that was hardly anything.
36:22I feel so bad
36:23for what I did
36:24to those poor families
36:26and I understand
36:27their rightful hate.
36:29I know I will be in prison
36:30for the rest of my life.
36:32I know I will be in prison.
36:42We're here outside
36:43Milwaukee County Courthouse
36:45where just moments ago
36:46Judge Lawrence Graham
36:47sentenced serial killer
36:49Jeffrey Dahmer
36:50to 15 consecutive
36:52life terms in prison.
36:53One life term
36:54for each person
36:55is accused of killing.
36:56You all right, Mama?
37:00Yeah, I'm good.
37:03We got that bastard.
37:05We got him.
37:07And he ain't
37:08never getting out.
37:25Guess I'm getting
37:26what's coming to me, huh?
37:28I'm sorry.
37:34It's okay, Dad.
37:36Yeah.
37:36We tried our best.
37:37Listen, um,
37:39I think we might have
37:40a few minutes,
37:41so there's something
37:41that I gotta tell you.
37:43Um,
37:45now, I've
37:46been looking everywhere
37:48to find out
37:48who's responsible
37:49for all this,
37:50blaming everybody
37:52except myself.
37:55And it's me.
37:57I'm the one to blame.
37:59I don't have to say that.
38:00Okay, shut up, Jeff.
38:01Please, just listen to me.
38:02Listen to me.
38:03It's me.
38:04I did this to you.
38:06All that
38:07stuff with the dead animals,
38:08I shouldn't have done that.
38:09I shouldn't have showed you
38:10how to do that.
38:11And your, uh,
38:13and your fantasies
38:14about killing people
38:15and stuff,
38:15I should have made you feel
38:17like you could
38:18tell me about that stuff.
38:20You know?
38:24Because
38:25I had those same feelings.
38:30And I gave you
38:31that part of me.
38:39And, uh,
38:41I never really
38:43helped you enough
38:44when you needed it.
38:45When you went to prison,
38:46I wrote a letter
38:47to the judge.
38:48I said,
38:48my son needs help
38:49because I knew you did.
38:50But I just left it at that
38:52and that wasn't enough.
38:53And, uh,
38:57I wasn't a good father.
39:00I wasn't
39:01because I wasn't
39:02a good husband.
39:03And
39:05you didn't feel safe.
39:11I left you alone.
39:13I can't believe
39:14that I left you alone.
39:18I'm so sorry.
39:19I left you alone.
39:20Time to go.
39:21And I'll
39:22I'll never forgive myself.
39:25Okay.
39:26But
39:27I won't leave you again.
39:28I promise, son.
39:30I'll
39:30I'll
39:30make it up to you.
39:32I'll
39:33I'll
39:33I'll visit you every week
39:34and I'll call.
39:45I've known this was coming
39:47for a long time now.
39:50There's so much
39:51I need to say
39:53that I find it impossible
39:55to put into words.
39:57because it's all
39:59so horrible.
40:02Words can't express
40:03the scale
40:04of my grief.
40:08When I try to take
40:10responsibility
40:11for the part I played
40:12in all of this
40:13it is simply
40:15too painful
40:16to do so.
40:19but denying I had
40:20any part in it
40:22is a comfort
40:23I can't allow
40:24myself
40:26because I know
40:27it isn't true.
40:31I failed you, Jeff
40:33and I'm sorry
40:34I wasn't the mother
40:36you needed
40:38and I am no longer
40:40willing to live
40:41with the guilt
40:42of that fact.
40:44To all
40:45of Jeff's victims
40:46I cannot express
40:49to you
40:49the magnitude
40:50of my regret
40:51so it's pointless
40:53to even try.
40:56to my son David
40:58please forgive me
41:00you've been able
41:01to rise above
41:02all of this
41:03and I'm sorry
41:05that I'm not able
41:06to.
41:07I love you
41:09and your brother.
41:12I tried my best.
41:25Sweetheart.
41:25Hold on.
41:26I'm in the middle
41:27of the chapter
41:29when Jeff was
41:30do you remember
41:31that Christmas
41:32before Jeff went
41:33in the army?
41:33Okay but
41:34just wait
41:35one second
41:35oh you know
41:39how did I not
41:40know that writing
41:41a book
41:42is what I should
41:43have been doing
41:43the whole time.
41:46I think I have
41:46a knack for it.
41:47Lionel
41:49I just got off
41:50the phone with David
41:50she's okay
41:53but he said
41:54that Joyce
41:54tried to kill herself.
41:57Oh Jesus.
42:00Oh Jesus.
42:06She's okay though?
42:08Yeah.
42:10Okay.
42:13I'll call him.
42:30Thank you guys.
42:33We're glad to be back
42:34on the force.
42:35Thank you
42:36for all your support.
42:39It's meant a lot
42:41and
42:43it was nice
42:44to know
42:44that somebody
42:45has your back.
42:53I appreciate the call
42:55man.
42:57Yeah so do I.
43:03What happened?
43:05those two cops
43:06who let that
43:08Conorick boy
43:09go back
43:09to Jeffrey Domo
43:11they've just
43:12been reinstated.
43:13What?
43:15A slap on the wrist
43:16and that's it?
43:17Mayor said
43:18they're gonna
43:18appeal the decision.
43:20And if that
43:20fails?
43:22then we
43:25fought the next fight
