00:00Tonight, on The Curse of Oak Island.
00:03Welcome to Azores.
00:04There's a number of questions that can be answered in the Azores.
00:08Some things here relate to our search.
00:09We have this on Oak Island.
00:11It's time to dig.
00:12We need to get to the treasure.
00:15Oh, boy, we got here.
00:17Wow.
00:18You might have some evidence to a 14th century Portuguese presence in Oak Island.
00:24The proof might be underground, right here.
00:26Wow.
00:27Fantastic.
00:31There is an island in the North Atlantic where people have been looking for an incredible treasure for more than
00:39200 years.
00:41So far, they have found a stone slab with strange symbols carved into it, man-made workings that date to
00:49medieval times,
00:51and a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:56To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
01:02And, according to legend, one more will have to die before the treasure can be found.
01:22Come on, go a little bit, Billy.
01:24There it is.
01:26There you go, Billy.
01:29As a crisp fall morning begins on Oak Island, workers from Rock Equipment and SB Canada repair the money pit
01:38area where the Laginas and their team plan to dig another 8-foot diameter steel shaft in the coming days.
01:46It is here, where they have detected high traces of silver, some 200 feet deep in the solution channel, which
01:53have been scientifically matched to a 14th century Portuguese coin, reportedly found in the original money pit back in 1849.
02:05After this, this should be good.
02:07While the work continues on Oak Island, over 2,000 miles to the southeast in the Azores Islands of Portugal.
02:24Gentlemen, welcome.
02:26Hello, welcome.
02:26Hello.
02:27Welcome to Azores.
02:28Thank you very much.
02:29Appreciate it.
02:30Rick and other members of the team have traveled to Terceira.
02:34They are following up on the research that suggests members of the Portuguese sect of the Knights Templar, known as
02:41the Knights of Christ, may have used the Azores to safeguard a portion of their sacred religious treasures before sailing
02:49them to Oak Island between the 14th and 16th centuries.
02:54Everybody, this is Francisco.
02:56He's a historian here in the Azores.
02:58He's worked with us in the past on the stone walls found in Lot 26.
03:02Yep.
03:04In 2022, Francisco examined photos of a stone wall on Lot 26 of Oak Island and believed it could be
03:14of Portuguese origin and date back to the 15th century.
03:19Welcome to the Grace on Substantial Church.
03:21It is the oldest church in this island.
03:23It was built in 1455 by the first settlements in this island.
03:28Oh, really?
03:29Wow.
03:30What is very important is that this church was built by the action of a Franciscan fire.
03:39Franciscans and the Order of Christ and the Templars were very close.
03:45Close.
03:46Is there the possibility that there was a smaller group that arrived here before the official date?
03:51And so is there anything in this church that speaks to that possibility?
03:55Yes, perhaps there's some clues.
03:58I think we're all eager to see you inside.
04:00We are.
04:01Let's go, Luke.
04:01Let's go.
04:02Let's go inside?
04:03Yes.
04:03Okay.
04:04There's a number of questions that need to be asked and maybe can be answered in the Azores.
04:09It would be wonderful to find a smoking gun directly connected to the Oak Island mystery.
04:31All of these were saints that the Templars and the Franciscans used to pray on.
04:39So this likely dates to the 1450s.
04:43This dates, this is contemporary of the church.
04:47Which would be about 150 years after the dissolution of the Knights Templar.
04:53Yeah, yeah.
04:54We're looking at something that the Order of Christ created.
04:58What we have are figures that were important to the Knights Templar.
05:02So this speaks to the continuation of the belief system.
05:05Exactly.
05:05Exactly.
05:06How closely were the Order of Christ related to the Templar order?
05:10Was it a true continuation of the order?
05:13Yes, it was a true continuation.
05:15Exactly.
05:16So any belief systems, any treasures, anything they were safeguarding came with them.
05:21Exactly.
05:22Exactly.
05:25Founded in 1318 by King Denis of Portugal, the Order of Christ was a successor to the Knights Templar
05:34after their disbanding and persecution by the Catholic Church in 1307.
05:39While it is rumored that the Order of Christ protected Templar treasures in Portugal and the Azores Islands,
05:47it is known that they were connected to the minting of coins exactly like the one believed to have been
05:53found in the money pit.
05:56We know from documents that there were some people sailing from Azores to the west.
06:04In the period between 1434 and 1446, departed from here, from Azores, 54 caravals to the west.
06:16The Templars not always had the ships, but the Order of Christ had the ships.
06:23But what was the destination west?
06:26We don't know.
06:27Perhaps, eventually, North America, eventually Oak Island.
06:32It's not so outlandish to believe that an organization like the Order of Christ would have had the capability,
06:39the knowledge, the connections to get to North America to safeguard what they deem to be of utmost importance.
06:46If you think of the journey of the Templars as a pilgrimage,
06:50we know from the Camino de Santiago, at the end of the pilgrimage,
06:53the Templars would leave a goose paw, you would scratch a goose paw.
06:57Yeah.
06:57I want to share an observation, if you look up.
07:02So here we have three corners of the chapel.
07:07Only three have three webbed feet.
07:10Three goose paws.
07:12Three there, three there.
07:13Yeah.
07:15Three there.
07:15There they still have the original red color.
07:18Very interesting.
07:19Which ties this all together beautifully with the symbol that we found in Nova Scotia.
07:28The goose paw is a three-pronged symbol that was designed by the Knights Templar
07:33and used to mark important locations for the Order
07:36throughout the Middle East and Europe between the 11th and 14th centuries.
07:42In recent years, Corian has showed the team several goose paw carvings
07:47found in places such as the Camerano Caves in Italy.
07:52A 12th century Templar stronghold,
07:54which was created in the shape of a cross,
07:57matching the design of the lead cross that was found on Oak Island in 2017.
08:04That is the mark of the nations for the Knights Templar.
08:08Incredible.
08:09And in 2022, Corian showed them a goose paw carving in Liverpool, Nova Scotia,
08:16just 50 miles southwest of Oak Island.
08:20Isn't that a great connection to Oak Island?
08:22Mm-hmm.
08:23We find the same symbol language here that we know both from close to Oak Island
08:28and from the place in Europe where we've been.
08:31So what this place brings is a consistent next step in the journey that we're sketching,
08:38a journey that led from Jerusalem through the Mediterranean Basin to Portugal
08:43and through the Azores, maybe to Oak Island.
08:47That's more than I expected.
08:49We would invite you to come to the island at your convenience
08:53and experience the same mystery, the same questions that we have puzzled over the lowly's many years.
08:59And maybe with your help and others, we can finally put an answer to these questions.
09:05So thank you, Andrew.
09:08Appreciate it.
09:08Thank you so much.
09:10But we have a lot to discover.
09:11Yeah, let's keep going.
09:12Keep looking.
09:13This has been great.
09:13As the team continues their investigation in the Azores, back on Oak Island...
09:20All right, well, I think I'm positioned okay.
09:22Perfect.
09:25So hopefully with continued digging, you find an artifact to give us an answer to this thing.
09:31That would be nice.
09:31Yes.
09:32Marty joins Laird and Fiona on Lot 8 at the stone cradle formation that the team found beneath a 40
09:40,000-pound boulder.
09:42What's the plan?
09:44So we just want to carefully check, see if there's a soil change, see if it's not natural.
09:51Yeah.
09:51And just have a feeling that something was coming this way.
09:55Why don't I dig this down and look for the roof of a tunnel?
09:58Yeah.
09:58Off chance, I understand, but...
10:00Well, I mean, worst-case scenario is you hit a tunnel.
10:04So...
10:04Yeah, which is also the best-case scenario.
10:06Yeah.
10:07All right, let's do it.
10:08All right.
10:10Over the past several weeks, scientific testing and investigation at the site has revealed traces of silver in the ground
10:19soil
10:19and possible evidence of a shaft deeper below.
10:23That's a lot of roots.
10:25Now, because Laird does not want to risk archaeological damage to the feature,
10:30he has given Marty permission to dig an adjacent trench
10:33to look for evidence of a possible tunnel that may run beneath it.
10:40It sounded like rocks, but I don't see any.
10:44It's pretty consistent soil.
10:51What the hell is that?
10:54That's interesting.
10:56It doesn't make any sense.
10:59Unbelievable.
11:03Let's see what we got.
11:07I think that's bedrock.
11:09These little chips are starting to look like bedrock.
11:12Yeah.
11:13While digging near the cradle of stones on lot 8...
11:16You know, that's interesting.
11:17Absolutely.
11:19Marty has made a potentially important discovery.
11:22And yet, we're higher than the base of the cradle over here.
11:28Yeah.
11:29It doesn't make any sense.
11:31Huh.
11:32On the eastern side of Oak Island,
11:35the slate bedrock is known to be flat and at a uniform depth
11:39because Marty has now confirmed that the cradle of stones
11:43sits below the bedrock to the side of the feature.
11:47This offers more compelling evidence
11:49that the stone cradle is the result of an earlier excavation
11:53and may be covering a much deeper man-made shaft.
11:57But you didn't hit bedrock in the cradle over here.
12:00No.
12:03So what we need to do next, Laird, then, is...
12:06You need to dig deeper there.
12:08Yeah.
12:08See if you can find bedrock.
12:10Laird doesn't appear to have hit the bedrock at all in that cradle.
12:13So there's the possibility that under that rock,
12:17a lot of digging occurred,
12:18which, you know, makes your mind go to shaft or a tunnel.
12:22So I'm very excited about it.
12:24I'm happy with the information.
12:26It's moving the needle for me that somebody did dig that out.
12:30Way out.
12:31They did it for a reason.
12:33This is not something that somebody would have done lightheartedly.
12:36No.
12:37I think we really need to take our time
12:38and understand this a little bit better.
12:40I think this makes it something even more special
12:42than we already thought.
12:44I know a certain Rick Lagina
12:46will be real interested in this, too,
12:48who will be back from the Azores soon.
12:50So I think we leave this all like this
12:53in case they want to do more
12:54or move something around.
12:56Yeah.
12:57So let's call it, shall we?
12:58Excellent.
13:03Meanwhile, over 2,000 miles away
13:06on the island of Terceira in the Azores.
13:09Hey, Francisco.
13:11Hi.
13:11Welcome to Serreta.
13:13Hey, Francisco.
13:14Rick, Alex, and other members of the Oak Island team
13:18have journeyed to the region of Serreta
13:20to meet once again with Francisco Nogueira.
13:25Like we talked about this before,
13:27we have the stone walls,
13:28like the walls you have in Oak Island,
13:31built by the Portuguese,
13:32this type of construction.
13:34We have suggestions that the wall on Lot 26
13:37bears a distinct Portuguese Azorian style.
13:42There's distinguishing features about the Lot 26 wall
13:44that we want to keep an eye out for.
13:46There are larger boulders that run along either edge,
13:49and inside of those large boulders,
13:51there are smaller rubble rocks.
13:53So that's one thing that we're looking for here.
13:56We want to look at these walls
13:57and confirm they're made in the same way.
14:01Yeah, those walls are very interesting to us
14:03because carbon dating has said
14:05that they were likely constructed
14:06somewhere around 1470, 1475.
14:10The type of construction that we use in Portugal,
14:12that they use in the first settlement here.
14:16And that would put it in what sort of time?
14:1915th, 16th century.
14:21That's very comparable in time to the wall on Oak Island.
14:24Yeah.
14:26Why do you believe it's not earlier than that?
14:28Yes.
14:29We don't know for sure.
14:31Nothing says that this wasn't much earlier.
14:34Yes.
14:36In 1427, the Portuguese explorer,
14:39Prince Henry the Navigator,
14:41who was also a high-ranking member of the Order of Christ,
14:45officially discovered and claimed the Azores Islands
14:49on behalf of Portugal.
14:51However, some believe that the Order of Christ
14:54may have been secretly visiting the islands
14:57as early as the mid-1300s
14:59in order to safeguard their priceless treasures.
15:03Well, let's go in and see how they compare
15:05the wall on Lot 26.
15:06Let's see.
15:07Let's go.
15:09I have really never seen anything like this in my life.
15:12It's full of rock walls
15:13that potentially predate the official dates
15:16of discovery and settlement of the Azores.
15:19Don't get lost.
15:20It's a labyrinth.
15:21Looks like it.
15:21Mm-hmm.
15:22Nobody seems to know who built them
15:25or what the purpose was.
15:27Here's where it gets exciting
15:28because they're great candidates
15:30to compare to our wall on Lot 26.
15:33Come take a look.
15:35What'd you find, E?
15:39So, look at this.
15:41So we have small rocks in the middle,
15:44big rocks to contain it,
15:47and the width,
15:48it's almost the same as Oak Island.
15:52It was very close.
15:53Come take a look at this.
15:57Got rubble right here.
15:58Yeah, inside the wall.
16:00Yeah.
16:01Yeah.
16:02You see it everywhere.
16:03Yep.
16:03It's all in there.
16:05The interior wall is filled with rubble,
16:08small stones.
16:10That is exactly the way
16:12the Lot 26 wall was created.
16:15But what you can see
16:16is a mirror of the Lot 26 wall.
16:21The question here is,
16:22why was this wall built in this manner?
16:24Just that it is on Lot 26.
16:27It's almost like the same technique
16:29was used on Lot 26.
16:30So it's almost like
16:32that approach was taken from here
16:35to Oak Island.
16:36And the same style,
16:38the same understanding
16:39of how walls function,
16:41how you build a wall.
16:43The wall on Lot 26
16:44is unique
16:45because we don't have
16:46other examples like that
16:49in Nova Scotia, right?
16:51Not that we know of.
16:53So, Francesco,
16:54would you think these might have been
16:56like living quarters for people?
16:58Maybe.
17:00Maybe.
17:00This is a great place to hide
17:02or to keep safe something.
17:04Yes.
17:05Interesting.
17:08Might a treasure
17:09once have found its way
17:11to the Azores
17:12and thus to Oak Island?
17:13There's nothing we see
17:15within this complex
17:16that would suggest
17:17anything other
17:18than the possibilities
17:20when people are committed
17:21to an endeavor
17:22like Oak Island.
17:24I've said it many times.
17:26Where there's a will,
17:26there's a way.
17:27All you have to do
17:28is look around you
17:29at this incredible
17:30complex of stone
17:32and realize
17:33that there is a purpose.
17:36All of that
17:37is associated with Oak Island.
17:39This fits all our timelines,
17:41right?
17:42Yeah.
17:43It sure does.
17:43We sort of suspect
17:45that perhaps
17:46somebody was here
17:47in the 1300s
17:49secretly.
17:50This is a great place
17:52to hide.
17:53Yes.
17:53We talk about it
17:54all the time on the island.
17:55You've got to look backwards
17:56in order to look forward.
17:57And we know
17:58just from this little
18:00experience here
18:01that indeed
18:02the possibility
18:04of information
18:05having traveled
18:05through the new world
18:07generationally.
18:08Is there a place
18:09on the island
18:09where we can qualify
18:10a little bit more, perhaps?
18:12Yes.
18:12We have a lot to see
18:13connected to the Oak Island.
18:15So let's go?
18:16Yeah.
18:16Okay.
18:21As a new day
18:22begins on Oak Island...
18:25Billy!
18:26Hey!
18:26Glad to see you here.
18:29All right, I'm ready.
18:30Marty joins other members
18:31of the team
18:32on Center Road
18:33near the western border
18:34of the swamp.
18:36Sand Road projects
18:37right down here.
18:38And if it's here,
18:41then that would be
18:42a very strong clue
18:43that Center Road
18:44was here
18:45before the survey.
18:47Right.
18:48The team is preparing
18:50to dig a cross-section
18:51of Center Road
18:52to look for evidence
18:53that it may have been built
18:55by previous treasure hunters
18:56on top of the sand-covered
18:58cobblestone road
18:59that was recently found
19:01running through the swamp
19:02toward the belief
19:03Portuguese stone road
19:04in the southeast corner.
19:06If the team
19:07can find evidence
19:08of the sand
19:09and cobblestone road here,
19:11it could suggest
19:12that it was created
19:13by someone
19:14long ago.
19:15Perhaps
19:16even before
19:17a 1762 survey
19:19when Oak Island
19:20was divided
19:21into 32
19:22four-acre lots.
19:24As I'm standing here,
19:26Billy,
19:26I see the sand road
19:27you nicely uncovered.
19:29I'm lined right up
19:30with it,
19:31which also lines
19:32right up with
19:32Center Road proper.
19:34So I think
19:35this is our spot.
19:36Yeah.
19:37Hey, Marty,
19:38what time is it, mate?
19:39It's time to dig.
19:41Gary, time to dig.
19:42You heard the man.
19:47Let's give the boy room.
19:54Here we go.
19:56We speculate
19:57upon looking
19:59at this sand road
20:00that it could be
20:01directly under
20:02the Center Road.
20:03If that's the case,
20:05whoever built it
20:06came here
20:06long before
20:07anybody else.
20:10Is that sand
20:11there already?
20:12Oh, it might seem sand.
20:14Kind of, yeah.
20:16That would explain
20:16the activity
20:17that was here
20:17before the money pit.
20:18It would explain
20:19the very significant
20:20wall on Lot 26.
20:22You play rich.
20:22It would explain
20:23the rock feature.
20:24On Lot 8,
20:25it would explain
20:26virtually everything.
20:27It's a little a book.
20:28Keep digging.
20:45The rock here
20:46underneath there.
20:46Sounds that way.
20:47Yeah, it looks like
20:48sand now.
20:49Check this out.
20:53How do you think?
20:54Yeah.
20:54Right down here.
20:55Look at that.
20:55Yeah, that's in there.
20:56It should be.
21:08Still a lot of gravel
21:10in there, too.
21:11I'm afraid we're getting
21:12contamination
21:12from the road.
21:13Yeah.
21:14If you want to look
21:15at the end of the bucket
21:15here, you can see
21:16the profile of what it is.
21:17Rocks,
21:19sand.
21:19Here, look,
21:20Larry.
21:21Oh, here.
21:23Let's see how it's rocks
21:24on the bottom
21:24and the sand.
21:25Yeah.
21:27But, I mean,
21:28that shouldn't be here
21:29naturally.
21:30That's not the natural
21:30dirt for here, no.
21:32All right,
21:33we're going to have a scan.
21:38I just don't see
21:39anything definitive here.
21:41No metal.
21:44This isn't jumping
21:45out at me.
21:47It's a little bit tricky
21:48to evaluate it
21:50because you have to
21:51raise the possibility
21:51of contamination
21:53from modern construction.
21:55So we need to
21:57try another location,
21:59any sort of ancient road
22:01on this island
22:02is worth following.
22:05We want to put this back,
22:06Billy,
22:06and try one more
22:07right there?
22:08Sure.
22:09As the team
22:10repositions
22:11to dig
22:12another cross-section
22:13through center road.
22:16Oh, look at how
22:17pretty that is.
22:18Yeah.
22:18Beautiful.
22:19Rick and members
22:20of the team
22:21arrive at the
22:22Angra do Heroismo
22:23Museum.
22:25It's incredible.
22:26Welcome.
22:28Great to see you.
22:29I'm Alex.
22:30Welcome to
22:31the Museum of Angra.
22:33Francisco
22:33has arranged
22:35for the team
22:35to look for clues
22:36in the museum
22:37and meet with
22:38local archaeologist
22:39Tiago Rodrigues
22:41regarding artifacts
22:42that have been found
22:43on Oak Island.
22:45We have a Portuguese coin
22:47dating to the late 1300s
22:49and if it came
22:50through the Azores,
22:51that's about 50 years,
22:53give or take,
22:54prior to the official date
22:55that the Azores
22:56were discovered
22:56and then colonized.
22:57The Portuguese
22:59navigated throughout
23:00the Atlantic.
23:00We have other evidences
23:02that allows us
23:03to conclude
23:05that the Azores
23:07had people
23:08before the Portuguese.
23:11We didn't know
23:12how much they were,
23:14who they were.
23:15So is it possible
23:17that some people
23:19knew that the Azores
23:21were here?
23:23Of course.
23:24It does kind of
23:25remind me of
23:26the early years
23:27of our treasure hunt
23:28on Oak Island.
23:29Stories that speak
23:30of people from Europe
23:31at a time when
23:32the conventional story
23:34says that people
23:34from Europe
23:35should not have been there.
23:36And from what
23:37Tiago is telling us,
23:38it sounds like
23:39that is again the case
23:40with the story
23:41here in the Azores.
23:43Before you arrived,
23:44Emiliano and myself
23:45did some scouting
23:46here in the museum.
23:47What we came to do here
23:49is well illustrated
23:51by this stone here.
23:53This is 15th century,
23:55Emiliano?
23:571454, probably,
23:58and it's the oldest
23:59stone carving
24:01that were found
24:02here in the Azores.
24:04This caught our attention,
24:05not only because
24:06it's possibly
24:07one of the oldest
24:09or the oldest
24:09carved stones
24:10that there are
24:11on this island,
24:12but particularly
24:13because of what
24:14it's showing,
24:15you know,
24:15the swirls here
24:18from the copper piece
24:19from the ribbon.
24:21In 2022,
24:23the team unearthed
24:24part of a copper
24:25artifact on Lot 8,
24:27decorated with
24:28an ornate symbol.
24:30Incredibly,
24:31one year later,
24:32they saw the similar
24:33symbol in a
24:34Templar-related
24:35manuscript in
24:36Reykjavik, Iceland
24:37that dated back
24:38to the 12th century.
24:40I actually have a photo
24:42of our copper artifact
24:43from Lot 8
24:44that shows that symbol.
24:45Let's see if it compares
24:47to what we're seeing here.
24:49I mean,
24:52it could be a match.
24:56Well done.
25:00It could be a match.
25:02It has the same
25:03middle feature here,
25:05and then on the ends,
25:07it could round closed
25:09for sure.
25:11At the Angra
25:12do Heroismo Museum
25:13in the Azores,
25:14the team has found
25:16a 15th century
25:17stone carving
25:17that may be connected
25:19to the Knights Templar
25:20and the Order of Christ,
25:23which matches a symbol
25:24on the copper artifact
25:25that was discovered
25:27on Lot 8
25:27in 2022.
25:30It shows that
25:31when people traveled,
25:33they took their symbols
25:34with them, right?
25:35Correct.
25:35And also,
25:37that symbol
25:38is the one
25:40we found
25:41in a manuscript
25:42in Reykjavik,
25:43in Iceland.
25:44It was a manuscript
25:45from the 1200s.
25:47This is a stone
25:48from the 1400s,
25:51and that means
25:52that that kind
25:52of knowledge
25:53or the symbolism
25:54was passed on
25:55because we are
25:56in the Azores,
25:58thousands of kilometers
25:59from Iceland,
26:00but still,
26:01we are seeing
26:02a clear connection
26:03between these countries
26:05and Oak Island.
26:07Something's here
26:08laid to our search.
26:09The image
26:09is telling a story.
26:11We see
26:12the decorative carving
26:14indicating the possibility
26:16that Templars
26:18or the Knights of Christ
26:19knew of the Azores
26:21before their documented
26:22discovery
26:23by the Portuguese.
26:24Could it be related
26:26to the copper artifact
26:27that we found
26:27on Lot 8?
26:28I think it's
26:30very plausible
26:30that they had
26:31the ability
26:32to make
26:33a transatlantic voyage.
26:35Tiago,
26:36we've actually brought
26:36some artifacts
26:37from Oak Island
26:38with us.
26:38We were hoping
26:39you'd take a look
26:40at them.
26:40I would be glad
26:41to help
26:42and to see,
26:43and we have a room
26:44that we can look
26:45at closer.
26:46Lead the way.
26:48We're trying
26:49to understand
26:50the pre-Columbian
26:51history of Oak Island
26:54and what happened there.
26:57We've brought
26:57a number of artifacts.
26:59Tiago was qualified
27:00to look at them
27:01and render an opinion.
27:02I hope that he can
27:04speak definitively
27:06about them.
27:07Tiago,
27:08we really appreciate
27:09you taking a look
27:09at these items.
27:10I guess maybe we'll
27:11just dive right in
27:12and get your thoughts.
27:16This is actually
27:17one of the stone shot
27:19that we found
27:20on the island.
27:20This was found
27:21this year, actually.
27:28It looks like
27:29stone bullets,
27:31so they have
27:32a period of time
27:34where they were
27:35most used
27:36and that links
27:37to the 14th century.
27:39Right.
27:40Which could link
27:41to the periods
27:42that you're looking for.
27:43Most probable
27:44then is
27:45that this is
27:46from the 1300s
27:47or earlier.
27:48It could be.
27:50They could be
27:51using them
27:52later,
27:53but it's not common.
27:54So, yeah,
27:56it points
27:57to the 14th century.
27:58Have you found
27:59any around here
28:00in the Azores
28:01at all?
28:01I've heard
28:02of some
28:03that are
28:03in the Azores,
28:05in particular
28:05in the Seda Island.
28:07I know
28:08they exist.
28:09This is more
28:09like human
28:11come back
28:12face to face
28:13to small battles,
28:14but it's interesting
28:16because if you have
28:17to take this
28:18to Oak Island,
28:19you have to go
28:20by boats
28:21and you have
28:22to be prepared
28:23for something.
28:25It implicates
28:25a journey
28:26where the risk
28:27exists.
28:29So,
28:29it's a very
28:30interesting piece.
28:31You know,
28:32we're looking
28:32at several scenarios
28:33of when treasure
28:34might have passed
28:35through the Azores
28:35and then moved
28:37to Oak Island
28:37and safeguarded there.
28:39To hear Tiago
28:40agree that our
28:41stone shot
28:42and others like it
28:42have been found
28:43here in the islands,
28:44is the connective
28:46tissue we're
28:46looking for.
28:49This
28:49is so small
28:51it could link
28:52to a hand cannon,
28:54so
28:54it's very interesting.
28:56Now that you
28:57mention it,
28:59this is a
29:00very interesting
29:01artifact
29:01and we believe
29:02that it may be
29:03a small
29:05hand cannon.
29:09And I have
29:10the report
29:11to go along
29:11with it.
29:12Earlier this year,
29:13when the team
29:14first discovered
29:15a section
29:16of the sand-covered
29:17road in the
29:17western region
29:18of the swamp,
29:20they found part
29:21of a hand cannon,
29:22a weapon first
29:23invented in China
29:24during the 12th century.
29:26After having
29:27Emma Culligan
29:28examine the piece
29:29in the lab,
29:30the team sent
29:31photos of the
29:32artifact to
29:33Maltese military
29:34historian Matthew
29:35Balzan for his
29:36analysis.
29:37in the European
29:39culture,
29:39it was used
29:40in warfare
29:41mostly from
29:42the 13th
29:43to the 15th,
29:45at most
29:46early 16th
29:48century.
29:49Wow.
29:52The hand cannon
29:53were common
29:54in the 1300s,
29:56yes.
29:57In the report,
29:58the most
29:58interesting part
29:59of this piece
30:00for me
30:01is the XRF
30:02because it
30:03shows a lot
30:04of sulfur
30:05which indicates
30:07an explosion,
30:09which means
30:10it was fired.
30:12Once again,
30:13links to
30:14the unknown,
30:15the journey
30:16going to
30:17the unknown
30:17world.
30:18You have
30:19to be prepared.
30:20You have
30:20a ship.
30:20You have
30:21some kind
30:21of weapons.
30:23It's a very
30:24interesting piece.
30:25The timelines
30:26that Tiago
30:27relates,
30:28it aligns
30:29perfectly
30:30for my
30:31belief
30:31that the
30:33effort on
30:33Oak Island
30:34was in
30:35multiple stages.
30:36I believe
30:37it's more
30:38aligned
30:38with the
30:40efforts here
30:41in the
30:41Azores
30:41to possibly
30:43protect the
30:43treasure
30:44in transit
30:45from Europe
30:46across the
30:47seas
30:48to North
30:48America
30:49and perhaps
30:49to Oak
30:50Island.
30:51This one
30:52here is a
30:53deck spike,
30:54we believe,
30:55from a ship.
30:56It was found
30:57a couple
30:57years ago
30:58on the
30:58island.
31:05The
31:06believed
31:06a deck
31:06spike
31:07was found
31:07in 2023
31:09by Jack
31:10Begley
31:10while
31:11investigating
31:11the
31:12Rounded Stone
31:12Foundation
31:13on Lot
31:145.
31:16That's
31:16also
31:16a very
31:17interesting
31:18piece
31:18because
31:19I've
31:20seen this
31:20before
31:21on the
31:21Portuguese
31:22ships.
31:22Really?
31:23Yeah.
31:24The square
31:25style
31:25and the
31:26large head
31:27that's being
31:28hammered,
31:29it's a very
31:30typical nail
31:30that goes
31:31on the
31:32ship.
31:32It could
31:32go on
31:33a barrel.
31:33So
31:34for the
31:35Portuguese,
31:35it was
31:36very,
31:36very common
31:37this kind
31:38of shape
31:39to be
31:39used in
31:40boats.
31:40Is there
31:41a time
31:42period
31:42that
31:42this
31:43could
31:44be
31:44used
31:44in
31:44the
31:4414th
31:45century?
31:50Amazing.
31:55Is it
31:56common
31:56for the
31:57Portuguese
31:57and unique
31:58to the
31:58Portuguese?
31:59Yes.
32:00So
32:00for the
32:01Portuguese,
32:01it was
32:02very,
32:02very common
32:03this kind
32:04of shape
32:05to be
32:05used in
32:06boats
32:06in the
32:0614th
32:07century.
32:07Wow.
32:08They
32:08were
32:09very,
32:09very
32:10useful
32:11in
32:11linking
32:12the
32:13wood
32:13together.
32:14So
32:14it's
32:15more
32:15to
32:16use
32:16in
32:16ships
32:16than
32:17in
32:17construction.
32:18Okay.
32:19At the
32:19Angra
32:20do
32:20Herismo
32:21Museum
32:21in the
32:22Azores,
32:23archaeologist
32:24Tiago
32:24Rodrigues
32:25has
32:26concluded
32:26that a
32:27spike
32:27found
32:27in
32:28the
32:28round
32:28feature
32:28on
32:29lot
32:295
32:29is
32:30not
32:30only
32:31of
32:31Portuguese
32:31origin
32:32but
32:32could
32:33also
32:33date
32:33back
32:34to
32:34the
32:341300s.
32:37That
32:37artifact
32:38just
32:38got
32:38much
32:38more
32:38interesting.
32:39Yeah,
32:39it did.
32:39It did.
32:41Could
32:42this
32:42artifact
32:43offer
32:43further
32:44evidence
32:44to
32:44support
32:45the
32:45theory
32:45that
32:46members
32:47of
32:47the
32:47Templar-related
32:48Order
32:48of
32:49Christ
32:49may
32:49have
32:50visited
32:50O'Guyland
32:51as much
32:51as for
32:52centuries
32:52before
32:53the
32:53discovery
32:54of the
32:54money
32:54pit?
32:55I mean,
32:56what can
32:56you say?
32:57Without
32:57any hesitation,
32:58this is
32:59Portuguese.
33:00Size,
33:01shape,
33:02weight,
33:03hammered
33:04head,
33:04everything
33:05spoke
33:05to
33:06him
33:06that
33:07it
33:07was
33:07a
33:07Portuguese
33:08design.
33:09Quite
33:09impactful.
33:11Okay,
33:12next up.
33:13This
33:13sparked a
33:14lot of
33:15excitement
33:15for us
33:15this year.
33:16It was
33:17revealed to
33:18us by
33:18a family
33:18that was
33:19associated
33:19with
33:20the
33:20treasure
33:21hunt
33:21on Oak
33:21Island
33:21in the
33:22past,
33:22and
33:23that
33:23family
33:23showed
33:24it
33:24to
33:24us
33:24this
33:24year.
33:25It's
33:25a
33:25Portuguese
33:25coin,
33:26the
33:27Ferdinand
33:27I.
33:28Minted
33:29somewhere
33:29between
33:301367
33:31and
33:321383.
33:39Wow.
33:41Was this
33:42on Oak
33:42Island?
33:42Yeah,
33:43the story
33:43behind this
33:44coin is
33:45that in
33:461849,
33:47they were
33:48drilling to
33:48try and
33:49strike the
33:49treasure
33:50chamber,
33:51and this
33:52may have
33:52come up
33:52on the
33:53drill bit.
33:54If this
33:55is a
33:55coin from
33:56the 14th
33:57century,
33:58you might
33:58have some
33:59answers to
34:01linking to
34:02the shipping
34:03spikes and
34:04other evidence
34:05that could
34:06suggest an
34:07early presence
34:08in Oak
34:09Island.
34:10Yeah,
34:11and you
34:12previously said
34:13about the
34:13stone shot
34:14that it
34:14was most
34:14predominantly
34:15used likely
34:16in the 14th
34:17century as
34:17well.
34:18Both those
34:19objects,
34:19we believe,
34:20came from
34:21underground on
34:22our island in
34:23the so-called
34:23treasure pit.
34:24So there's a
34:25connection there.
34:26Almost for
34:27sure.
34:28So a lot
34:29of these
34:29artifacts seem
34:30to be centering
34:30on the 1300s
34:32that we've
34:32shown you
34:32here today.
34:33Several have
34:34and several
34:35are also
34:36converging on
34:36the 15th
34:37century,
34:38which happens
34:38to be kind
34:39of the two
34:39timelines that
34:40we were wanting
34:41to investigate
34:42when we came.
34:43Yeah, I don't
34:43think they are
34:43all from the
34:44same timeline.
34:45Right.
34:45And I think
34:46Oak Island
34:46have a lot
34:47of very,
34:49very,
34:49very good
34:50evidence that
34:51creates a
34:52pattern.
34:53Yeah.
34:54The proof
34:54might be
34:56underground
34:56on Oak
34:57Island,
34:58and we
34:59might only
35:00do as good
35:01as establishing
35:03plausibility
35:04until something
35:05comes out
35:06of the ground.
35:06Yeah,
35:06the forensic
35:07evidence seems
35:08to point
35:08that silver
35:09and gold
35:10is underground
35:11almost certainly.
35:13It's quite
35:14impactful to have
35:15a person of his
35:16experience and
35:17his understanding
35:18confirm.
35:19He clues to
35:20the possibility
35:21of a treasure
35:22moving east
35:23to west.
35:23It's a very
35:24interesting piece.
35:25There might
35:27be multiple
35:28treasures
35:28connected to
35:29the Templars
35:30and their
35:31descendants.
35:32So we learn
35:33that as you
35:34uncover clues,
35:35you not only
35:36advance the
35:36search agenda,
35:37but you learn
35:39about history
35:40worldwide.
35:42You know,
35:42this is a little
35:43bit different
35:43setting than
35:44the war room
35:45on Oak
35:45Island,
35:46but it had
35:46been highly
35:47informative,
35:48most appreciative
35:49of both of
35:50your time.
35:51You've set us
35:52on a course
35:52of action
35:52that may
35:53provide the
35:54definitive
35:54answers that
35:55we seek.
35:56I can't say
35:57anything more
35:58than just
35:58thank you.
35:59My pleasure.
36:00Thank you very
36:00much.
36:04Let's go here.
36:05Meanwhile,
36:06back on Oak
36:07Island.
36:10Oh,
36:10the rock
36:11under that.
36:11Yep.
36:13Marty Laird
36:13and other
36:14members of the
36:14team have
36:15moved to a
36:16location a few
36:17yards further
36:17down Center
36:18Road to look
36:20for evidence
36:20of the sand
36:21and cobblestone
36:22road beneath it.
36:28That's
36:29sand there.
36:29Yeah,
36:29it is.
36:30Yeah.
36:32Looks like
36:32it.
36:34The sand
36:35goes under
36:35the modern
36:37and that's
36:37right on line.
36:44That's it,
36:45isn't it?
36:48Oh,
36:48yeah,
36:49look at it.
36:49Oh,
36:50that's good.
36:51Yeah.
36:52Is this
36:53what we're
36:53looking for?
36:53Is this?
36:54Oh,
36:54that's what
36:55we're looking
36:55for.
36:56Okay,
36:57well then,
36:57let's see
36:57what's
36:58underneath it.
37:05I'll go over
37:06and see if
37:06there's anything
37:07in that sand.
37:08Is that all
37:09sand right there?
37:10Yep.
37:11All this is.
37:13I'm getting
37:13a little
37:14chirping,
37:16but...
37:17What here?
37:26There's something
37:27there,
37:27dig?
37:27Yeah.
37:28Let's see if I can
37:29pinpoint it first.
37:43it's in the end,
37:44let's see what we're
37:44good.
37:45You go,
37:45Gary.
37:47Oh,
37:47yeah.
37:52You go,
37:52Gary.
37:53A nice
37:54little nail,
37:56little iron nail.
37:58After finding
37:59more possible
38:00evidence of the
38:00sand road beneath
38:01center road,
38:03Gary has just
38:04discovered what
38:05could be another
38:06important clue.
38:08Could be an
38:09ox shoe nail.
38:10We found an
38:12ox shoe in the
38:12sand road,
38:14stone throw away
38:14from here.
38:17This artifact
38:18is actually
38:19buried in
38:21the sand road.
38:22And this is
38:23a foot down.
38:24It's in
38:25excellent condition.
38:26Gotta keep
38:27hold of this.
38:28Look,
38:28it's going
38:28back to the
38:29lab,
38:29and Emma's
38:30gonna run
38:31a magic on
38:32it.
38:32Maybe we
38:33can find
38:34out how
38:35old it is
38:35and date
38:36this sand
38:37road.
38:38That was
38:38the only
38:39find.
38:40What we
38:41don't have
38:41is anything
38:42definitive on
38:43a date.
38:43Well,
38:44we had the
38:45hand cannon,
38:45which is
38:46very significant.
38:47Yeah.
38:47So we
38:48have a lot
38:49of old
38:49dates in
38:49this particular
38:50area.
38:51Mm-hmm.
38:51Yep.
38:52Okay,
38:53we find a
38:54sand road
38:55in the
38:56swamp.
38:56It's really
38:57well constructed.
38:58It's here
38:58for unknown.
38:59Right.
39:00So we
39:00have oxen
39:02going up
39:02and down
39:02this road
39:03well prior
39:03to the
39:04time when
39:05we thought
39:06center road
39:07didn't even
39:07exist.
39:08So now
39:08let's pull
39:09that together
39:10and say
39:11this road
39:12was actually
39:13just an
39:13extension of
39:13that sand
39:14road.
39:15Yeah,
39:15exactly.
39:16Then it
39:17goes,
39:18by my
39:19reckoning,
39:20directly to
39:20the beginning
39:21of what we've
39:21now called
39:22the Portuguese
39:22road,
39:23which in fact
39:24goes up the
39:25hill towards
39:26the money pit.
39:27Yeah.
39:28Which leads
39:29us to the
39:29thought that
39:30perhaps center
39:31road here
39:32existed prior
39:33to the 1762
39:35survey.
39:36The reason
39:36we're here
39:37today is to
39:37try and prove
39:38that theory,
39:39and we more
39:39or less did.
39:41Taste.
39:41It's always fun
39:42finding what
39:43you're looking
39:43for.
39:44Yeah.
39:44It's Oak
39:44Highway.
39:46Pull all
39:47that together
39:47and it leads
39:48to a pretty
39:49solid conclusion
39:50that the
39:50so-called
39:51center road
39:52has actually
39:53been there
39:53for a very
39:54long time.
39:55It was not
39:56created after
39:57that survey.
39:59Okay,
39:59and then the
40:00next dot to
40:00connect,
40:01it said,
40:01well,
40:01there's our
40:01connection.
40:03Center road
40:03goes right
40:04to lot 5.
40:05How did
40:06lot 5 get
40:06to the money
40:07pit?
40:07It just
40:08went out
40:08to center
40:08road and
40:09then went
40:10on to
40:10go to
40:10the swamp
40:11so that
40:12road could
40:12have carried
40:13the people
40:13back and
40:13forth between
40:15lot 5
40:15and the
40:15money pit
40:16area.
40:16Simple as
40:17that.
40:18It gives
40:19credence to
40:19what we're
40:20doing here,
40:20gentlemen.
40:21It helps
40:22that these
40:22things continually
40:24verify that
40:24we're not
40:25really on a
40:25wild goose
40:26chase.
40:27No,
40:28I think it's
40:28been a success,
40:29but now we
40:30need to get
40:31to the
40:31treasure.
40:34I know
40:34one thing
40:35for certain,
40:36for absolute
40:37certain,
40:37I know
40:37somebody who's
40:38going to be
40:38keenly interested
40:39in this when
40:40he gets
40:40back from
40:41the Azores,
40:41and that
40:42would be
40:42big brother
40:43Rick.
40:43Yeah.
40:44Yeah.
40:45Okay,
40:45let's get
40:46on to the
40:46next task.
40:48Billy,
40:49put this
40:49back together.
40:50Very good.
40:51The deeper
40:52and further
40:53that Rick,
40:55Marty,
40:55Craig,
40:56and the
40:56team look
40:57into this
40:58231-year-old
40:59mystery,
41:00new clues
41:01and revelations
41:03only bolster
41:04their will
41:04to keep
41:05digging.
41:06Because
41:07whether on
41:08lot 8,
41:08in the
41:09Money Pit
41:10area,
41:10or 2,000
41:12miles across
41:13the Atlantic
41:14Ocean,
41:15one conclusion
41:16is becoming
41:17more probable
41:18by the day.
41:20Oak Island
41:20may be hiding
41:22secrets that
41:23changed the
41:24course of
41:24history in
41:25Europe,
41:26and could
41:26most certainly
41:27rewrite the
41:28history
41:31of North
41:32America.
41:35next time
41:36on The Curse
41:37of Oak
41:37Island.
41:39What's that?
41:40It's similar
41:40to what we
41:41have on Oak
41:42Island.
41:42This is from
41:432000 BC.
41:45We're starting
41:46to find
41:46a hidden
41:46wall.
41:47This would
41:48be an
41:48ideal place
41:49to deposit
41:49treasure.
41:51That sounds
41:51great.
41:52Wow.
41:53Oh my
41:53gosh.
41:54This is
41:54huge.
41:55Amazing.
41:56This is
41:56very,
41:57very,
41:57very significant.
41:58If that
41:59was part
41:59of the
41:59treasure,
42:00the rest
42:00of that
42:01dish still
42:01is a
42:01money
42:02pet.
42:02Absolutely.
