00:00let's start off with uh oklahoma and a sports betting bill that looked like it was on the move
00:05forward and now we're going the other way it looks like it's been rejected and part of this pat
00:11with the remaining states that have not yet legalized sports i would say
00:15at least half of them are going to have to get things done with the tribal entities it does feel
00:20like exactly we did see wisconsin get that over the the finish line this year with their tribal
00:26agreement so that's you know one one more state to go and then here we are but yes oklahoma that's
00:31something this is something we've been talking about i remember talking about it with you last
00:34year at some point that they've been working on this for a really long time there's two guys
00:38senator uh well now i can't remember his name uh of course and then ken lutrell uh representative
00:45ken lutrell who's kind of the real big leader he's been working on it for eight years um
00:50they've been working on it and you know it kind of fizzled out early this session and then all of
00:54a sudden news emerged late last week that hey a deal might be in place and that's big news because
01:00governor kevin stitt has been a thorn in the side of the tribes and legislature trying to get this
01:05done back in 2020 he tried to legalize through two tribal compact sports betting and the rest of the
01:11tribe said nope we don't like that the courts rejected it and since then stitt's been nope we're
01:16not going to do tribal exclusive sports betting which is an issue because tribes have gaming
01:20exclusivity in oklahoma and he's wanted an open market and has vowed to veto any tribal exclusive
01:27bills so that's been the thing we've had bills get to the senate floor before and he said no we're
01:34going to veto it so they don't pass it um this year again well it was actually last year a
01:39bill
01:39made it through the house luttrell's bill made it to the senate floor where it's been sitting and
01:44we had a final bill uh deal kind of come out that the oklahoma indian gaming association was very into
01:49apparently the oklahoma thunder who have been pulled into the discussions here and then maybe
01:54for a license maybe to share licenses with the tribes maybe just get a cut of the revenue
01:58they were into it because eight percent of the uh tech sports betting revenue sent to the state as
02:04part of the exclusivity fee would help promote globally the oklahoma city thunder um but what it came
02:10down to it they pulled it up uh on wednesday the senate voted against it because uh they knew stit
02:17wasn't gonna go for it now the promising thing for oklahoma is you've got this legislature that seems
02:22to be fairly behind sports betting and legalizing it for the tribes stit is term limited out this year
02:30so you will have a new governor in oklahoma next year so this will be a state to watch because
02:34there
02:35are a lot of tribes in oklahoma saying we want this fan duel came out as this was coming and
02:39said
02:39we want the chance to partner with at least one of the tribes to offer sports betting in oklahoma
02:45so long story short we've had at least a six seven year uh path that's been just really up and
02:53down and
02:53and stit has been the you know major reason it hasn't gotten done and he's out of the way next
02:57year so
02:58oklahoma will definitely be a state to watch
03:00you
