A broad mass of broken ice moves downstream along the Zhdanivka River, pressing through the channel in a dense, uneven front.

Large slabs jostle and ride up against one another as the flow advances, filling much of the visible waterway.

The steady push of ice turns the current into something that reads more like a shifting surface than open water.
