An Australian hiker has been safe after a tense overnight rescue operation on Mount Santubong in Sarawak.

Belinda Lapier, 43, is believed to have fallen while descending the mountain's challenging F7 trail section on Thursday (April 23) afternoon.

00:0743-year-old Belinda Lapier was located by a search and rescue team Friday morning after
00:12spending a night stranded on the mountain.
00:14The ordeal began on Thursday afternoon, when Lapier is believed to have fallen while descending
00:18Mount Santobong along the F7 section of the trail, a challenging stretch of the popular
00:23hiking route in Sarawak.
00:25Forest Rangers managed to establish voice contact with Lapier at around 5 in the evening.
00:30They could hear her calling out from the F7 area, but dense jungle terrain made it impossible
00:34to pinpoint her exact location.
00:36The incident was reported at 8.20 that evening, immediately triggering a multi-agency response.
00:43Firefighters from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, Forest Rangers and police personnel
00:48were all deployed to the mountainous area as darkness fell.
00:51On Friday morning, the search and rescue team were split into two groups.
00:55Team 1, comprising six personnel, took a bold approach, descending a cliff face by an alternative
