00:21En 2015, viajé a Sevilla.
00:28Y conocí a Manuel Blanco Vela.
01:03As a result of which, she died.
01:23No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
01:51I remember when the Megyn Kelly episode came out that morning.
01:56People started reaching out to me and locals in Sevilla started reaching out to me.
02:00Like expats, people who had competitor companies.
02:03Like I don't give a shit who it was.
02:09There was all these whispers started coming out.
02:17They would tell me about the bars he would go to.
02:25That he would go to intercambios with the kids, that he would always hang out with younger girls, always American
02:33girls, which restaurants he would take them to.
02:35And they just started giving me information.
02:37Random people would give me information.
02:53During this time, it was just on Facebook still.
02:57Like I was just posting every single, I mean, I would literally go to bed, on my email, wake up,
03:05email, Facebook, talk to people, like all day, all day.
03:10I wasn't sleeping.
03:11I was just on my phone, nonstop talking to people, trying to like figure out what the fuck was going
03:18on.
04:55Y estoy estudiando en Penn State.
05:33Manuel dice, hacemos viajes a Lagos y a Marruecos.
05:39Hacemos todo para ustedes.
05:41Y también tenemos cada noche una actividad.
05:50Él tenía una fiesta en la oficina.
05:54Algo muy informal.
06:00Manu would host free sangria nights for the study abroad students.
06:09Where the office was open and we would just go and drink as much sangria as we wanted.
06:19It seemed like he was creating friendships with everyone.
06:24I spent, I spent many nights there.
07:45Whenever there was an event at a bar or a discoteca
07:51that was geared towards study abroad students, he was there.
08:00Manu was like a man about town.
08:04He was handsome.
08:05He knew everyone.
08:09And every bar we walked into, every restaurant we walked into,
08:13he would clap the bartender on the back.
08:18It was very clear that he knew everyone that we were interacting with.
08:28I don't remember if he used Manuel White or Manuel Blanco.
08:32I think he put it in English, but I don't really know why.
08:40I just remember at some point in the welcome party meeting him with some of my friends.
08:46He just was, like, fairly charismatic, talkative, kind of a playful sort of personality.
10:27No, no, no, no, no.
11:32All the different things I started to try to get organized.
11:36I was like the administrator,
11:40the public kind of outreach,
11:44organizing everything,
11:45and I refused to let anyone help me
11:48because I felt like that would be a breach of their trust.
11:53So then I just had to work on all of it by myself.
11:57It was very taxing for Gabrielle.
12:00She would say at least three or four times a week
12:02for months and months, she'd be like,
12:04I have to get on a call with somebody.
12:06And she would go in the room, close the door,
12:09and come back out, and she would say,
12:11he raped that girl, or he, you know, tried to rape her,
12:15or he did this to her, that to her.
12:17It was like, you know, but always the same scenario.
12:27I don't think I was the first.
12:29I don't know that for sure,
12:31but the system was already in place.
12:50I think that he had been doing this for a long time
12:54before I got there.
13:06I think it was about the last week that I was in Spain
13:12that he started texting me,
13:15and they were very flirtatious.
13:18I mean, pretty direct, let's get together texts.
13:25As far as I was concerned, this was a friend.
13:43Manuel texted me either on Facebook or WhatsApp
13:47and had basically said, like,
13:50we could meet him and have some free drinks
13:52or have a night out.
13:54And then me and my female roommate
13:59and our other friend, we met Manuel.
14:21It was really dead outside.
14:24We were walking along the river,
14:29kind of on the main Sevilla side towards the Torre de Oro.
14:39It was pretty dark.
14:45And this man in a motorcycle cuts in front of us.
14:53And he's in, like, all black, black helmet.
14:59He, like, kept walking to us with his helmet on.
15:02And he, like, takes his helmet off and he's like,
15:06Girls, it's Manu.
15:08Like, I'm joking.
15:10And we were like, oh, my God, Manu, you scared us.
15:13And he was like, well, why don't you come
15:15and have a drink with me at the Phoenix?
15:41And so we were there and we, like,
15:44a few shots of tequila
15:47but they were like baby shots
15:48so it was fine
15:57he was flirting with this friend
15:58that I was with and I was kind of like
16:01trying to be a good wing woman
16:02and I was like he was like let's go back to my apartment
16:04we can play guitar
16:06and like hang out
16:08for a bit and I was kind of like alright
16:09like when in Spain
16:14I was nervous
16:16to meet him alone
16:18so I
16:20brought my best friend
16:22with me
16:24and he picked us up on his Vespa
16:27and he drove us to his
16:30apartment
16:34at some point he invited
16:36me and my friends
16:38back to his apartment
16:40and then
16:42yeah that's where things get really blurry
16:44and where I have
16:45a lot of trouble remembering
16:54from what I can remember
16:55when you get into Manu's apartment
16:57you walk into that
16:59and there might have been like
17:00a little like living room to the left
17:06there was a balcony
17:07so like sliding glass doors
17:13he opened
17:15two Coronas
17:17and he
17:19had to sit on his bed
17:20with him
17:31he and my friend
17:32were sitting together
17:33and so we
17:37he was playing guitar
17:38with his friend
17:38and I was just kind of sitting there
17:41like he clearly wasn't interested in me
17:42which was fine
17:45I know for the majority
17:46it was only
17:47the three of us
17:48girls
17:49and Manuel
17:49at his apartment
17:55I remember
17:58my roommate
17:59at the time
18:00she was
18:01like getting sick
18:05I think at a certain point
18:07Manuel got
18:08a taxi
18:10for
18:10my sick roommate
18:12to go home
18:13but
18:14I
18:15I don't remember too much
18:24and
18:25he was like
18:26let's play a game
18:27he was getting very touchy
18:29I remember his hand
18:31on my thigh
18:32and
18:34he was encouraging
18:35I can't remember
18:36whether it was directly
18:37or not
18:38to have a threesome
18:39I didn't feel
18:40comfortable
18:41like I wasn't
18:42I didn't really feel safe
18:48I just remember
18:49feeling like really heavy
18:51like I like
18:52couldn't really
18:53like move
18:54with like much
18:56like confidence
18:58and
18:59like kind of just
19:00like fell into his bed
19:01and like fell asleep
19:12I just remember
19:13like little pieces
19:15like
19:15I remember
19:16like a door slamming
19:17and I remember
19:18um
19:19my other friend
19:21and Manuel
19:21kissing
19:22and I think
19:23I remember
19:24Manuel kissing me
19:26but I don't remember
19:27like
19:32the sequence
19:33of events
19:33really
19:34it's just like
19:35little
19:36flashes
19:37and little moments
19:41and I wake up
19:42to Manu saying
19:43your friend's left
19:45can you give me
19:46a handjob
19:48we
19:48finished our beers
19:50and
19:51I
19:52was like
19:53I think
19:54we have to go
19:56and he was like
19:57no no no
19:58just stay for
19:59one more drink
20:00I gave him
20:01a handjob
20:02with like
20:03my arm
20:03behind my back
20:04like not even
20:05looking at him
20:06I just kind of
20:07felt
20:08like
20:09let's get
20:10through this
20:10like
20:11I just need
20:11to like
20:12have this happen
20:13and then
20:14this will be over
20:17and I remember
20:18him trying
20:18to block
20:19the door
20:21and then
20:21he said
20:22are you going
20:22to leave me
20:23with blue balls
20:25by the grace
20:26of God
20:27I don't know
20:27how my phone
20:28ended up in bed
20:28with us
20:29or like
20:30how I heard it
20:33but
20:34I heard my phone
20:35and I picked it up
20:38he like moved
20:39enough for us
20:40to get out
20:41of the apartment
20:42and I just remember
20:43like
20:44I felt like
20:46I flew down
20:47the stairs
20:49my friend
20:50was like
20:51where are you
20:52and I like
20:53couldn't form words
20:54and gave the phone
20:56to Manu
20:56and he was like
20:57oh
20:57she's fine
20:59and thankfully
21:00my friend was like
21:01no
21:02like I'm coming
21:02to get her
21:03like text me
21:04your address
21:06I remember
21:07afterwards
21:07walking home
21:08trying to find
21:09something familiar
21:10and just being like
21:11that was weird
21:13but I guess
21:15it's a Spanish man
21:17thing
21:19I just like
21:20literally left the house
21:24and my friend
21:25brings me back
21:26to my apartment
21:28I knew I was like
21:29safe
21:30and I was like
21:30I can go to bed
21:31and like
21:32slept the rest
21:33of the day
21:50when I woke up
21:52no one else was there
21:54I was completely alone
21:55with Manuel
21:56and I was completely naked
21:58in the bed
22:00next to Manuel
22:01and Manuel
22:02was also naked
22:03in bed
22:04next to me
22:04I just remember
22:07like
22:07spiraling
22:09because I didn't
22:10have any memory
22:11of
22:11taking off my clothes
22:13or
22:14of him
22:15taking them off
22:17and
22:17I just remember
22:19being
22:19like frozen
22:20and
22:21like
22:22like what the hell
22:24happened
22:25basically
22:27my whole body
22:29felt
22:29like heavy
22:31and I couldn't
22:32move
22:33and then
22:35Manuel
22:35like rolling over
22:37and
22:37assaulting me
22:39and I remember
22:40that
22:42like really clearly
22:43and just like
22:44laying there
22:46and not
22:46being able to
22:48really move
22:49or get him off
22:51and then
22:51was just him
22:53doing whatever
22:55he wanted
23:08I remember
23:09just like
23:10not knowing
23:12what to do
23:12and so
23:14I like
23:15got dressed
23:15really quickly
23:18and then
23:18I just went
23:19downstairs
23:20and
23:21went back
23:22to
23:23the
23:23residencia
23:29I never
23:30talked about it
23:31with anyone
23:34except
23:35the
23:36two girls
23:37that
23:38were implicated
23:39and also
23:40yeah I just
23:42felt
23:42I think so
23:43yeah
23:45nervous
23:46and ashamed
23:47and
23:47helpless
23:48at that
23:49point in time
24:13yeah
24:13there was
24:14definitely a
24:15pattern
24:15that was
24:16established
24:19young women
24:20who are
24:20very vulnerable
24:22who are
24:22in a place
24:23where they
24:23don't speak
24:24the language
24:24who are
24:25in a place
24:25where they
24:26need someone
24:26to trust
24:27they need
24:27someone to
24:28kind of
24:29guide them
24:30I started
24:31to realize
24:31that it
24:32wasn't just
24:32rape
24:33like it
24:33was
24:35anything
24:35this
24:36fucker
24:37could get
24:37from these
24:38girls
24:38he did
24:39it was
24:40expanding
24:40and expanding
24:41the story
24:42just kept
24:42getting bigger
24:47and I
24:47remember
24:48I got
24:48a direct
24:48message
24:49on Facebook
24:52and then
24:53the second
24:53Carrie came
24:54into the
24:54picture
24:56and told
24:57me about
24:57Lauren
25:00it was
25:01like one
25:01of those
25:01moments

25:02I had
25:03no idea
25:05what I
25:06was involved
25:06in
25:07I mean
25:07at the
25:08time
25:08I didn't

30:42En Warren dated back in college.
30:48She was just different, you know, she always had a bubbly energy. She was very warming to
31:02de
31:25en los Estados Unidos.
31:26Sí, fue algo que ella estaba muy
31:28esperando a celebrar con amigos y con la danza.
31:35Entonces, Lauren went con ella, Sara, Elly y Lauren.
31:43No tenía un plan.
31:47Solo...
31:48We went out to dinner en el centro, ya sabes?
31:57They were at the restaurant and...
32:04Emanuela showed up.
32:10I remember him further in the restaurant, up by the bar.
32:16And then we sat at a table and we saw him or he saw us
32:22and he came over to our table.
32:26And then he asked if we all wanted to go to Belindo.
32:30He was like, no, come with me.
32:32Like, I'm going to show you guys.
32:34I'm going to take you guys to this discotheca and whatever.
32:36And so we just went with him because we were like, why not?
32:45We went with him to Belindo and we went into like the VIP, you know, section.
32:56And he had a bunch of drinks and there was like hookah.
32:59And that was kind of the majority of the night.
33:08We were texting the whole time during the night and, you know, and she just kept me updated with all
33:15the details while she was there.
33:18She said, I don't feel comfortable around him.
33:22She definitely did not like him.
33:25She wrote me a text saying that she was very drunk.
33:29And I was like, aha, great.
33:32Like, sounds good.
33:40I think they had a couple of drinks.
33:44And then I think it was Ellie and then her friends left to go home.
33:55Ellie was sick and it was three in the morning.
34:01Ellie was like, I'm I don't feel good.
34:04It was not a normal feeling.
34:07I feel like that night, like I don't looking back, like I remember afterwards, I'm like, did I wonder if
34:13there was something in the drinks or what?
34:15Because he was giving us all the drinks and they were all up there in the VIP section.
34:23And we talked to Lauren and Sarah and they didn't want to leave yet.
34:27I was like, well, I'll go with Ellie.
34:29I'll walk Ellie home and make sure she gets home.
34:30And then I walked home.
34:32But I do remember saying goodbye to Lauren and she was like, very intoxicated.
34:42And Sarah was also intoxicated.
34:47Obviously, looking back, I shouldn't have left her.
34:59But I just, you know, made a mistake.
35:11For some reason, they ended up going to his house.
35:16I'm not sure what he said exactly to get them there.
35:18But it's a bit surprising that she would have done that and that Sarah C would have done that, too,
35:26given that neither of them was interested in Manu.
35:31It didn't fit.
35:34I was receiving things that didn't make sense in terms of, like, drivers.
35:39I thought that was weird.
35:41I was like, I was wondering if she herself got drugged or something.
35:45At one point, she said that she missed me and then, like, I answered back and then I didn't get
35:52any response from there.
36:01The police said that it would have been a suicide.
36:04So, there were only two options.
36:37She said they got to his house and she said they were standing around for a little while.
36:51Went out on the balcony.
36:57They had all been on the balcony, but Lauren stayed inside, um, like a jacuzzi that was empty on the
37:05balcony.
37:08Sarah and Manu had gone inside to get water.
37:22And then they heard a noise.
37:25And so then they went out there and she was on the ground, off the balcony.
37:35I never have, like, pushed more on Sarah to give me more details of that night because it was so
37:43traumatic for her and awful.
37:45And I know you probably, like, she probably doesn't even remember half of it either because she was so wasted.
37:50It was such a blur and then the trauma on top of all of that.
37:53Looking back, it just feels like a really weird story.
37:57It feels like Sarah, I want to say this without saying that Sarah, Sarah did not have anything to do
38:07with this.
38:07Like, Sarah is very much a victim, but I think that she was also trying to protect herself in telling
38:19a story that was kind of vague.
38:22I believe the story, I just think there were a lot more details that maybe weren't told.
38:28And some of it's kind of a blur.
38:32I just, I think it was like three days I didn't sleep for a while.
38:36I just, like, everything else keeping me up.
38:41Um, it was tough.
38:46You know, so much of my life was taking away from me at, like, once.
38:58When the accident happened, although it seemed like it was a accident accident,
39:02they didn't let them pass the occasion to do the alcoholism test
39:05to, like, Manuel Banco and Sarah.
39:12This happened two hours more or less after the accident.
39:14This happened two hours after the accident.
39:16Sarah, the 0,48, if you want to remember.
39:19It was a more or less than a dose of alcohol.
39:23Loren Bayorek did a result of alcohol in blood
39:27of 2,99 grams per litre of blood.
39:30That alcohol was close to the etilical coma.
39:34In the words of the forense,
39:36with 2,9 grams of alcohol,
39:39one is dead or unconscious.
39:45And Manuel dio 0,0.
39:490,0.
39:51It is to say, he took them to the two at the party,
39:54both drinking one of them until the point of getting to the etilical coma,
39:58and he dio 0,0.
39:59It is to say, he had control of the situation at all times.
40:03They didn't find any alcohol in Manu's,
40:07which was weird because he was at the clubs with them.
40:11I think that Manuel is a depredator.
40:14It is a depredator.
40:16It is a hunter.
40:17I think that that night he came to hunting
40:20and he had the attitude that the depredators have.
40:23It is to say, a plan, a strategy
40:25and the patience that the depredators have.
40:29He took two hours to end where he wanted to end
40:33and in the situation in which he wanted to end.
40:35It was at 5 in the morning,
40:37in his attic,
40:38with two girls absolutely, in the end,
40:43as a result of the alcohol,
40:45at least alcohol.
40:49And he 0,0.
40:51Those are the facts.
40:52And they were very interested,
41:12and they were very interested,
41:13And they were very interested in the future.
41:20The UNBIS 2
44:24como solo ella estaba, y ella estaba desesperada.
44:32Y yo le dije a Gabriel just today, ¿can you imagine being her mother
44:37y seeing you on the Megyn Kelly show?
44:39Y la realization, like, this is a serious predator.
44:51This motherfucker was walking down the street,
44:54getting his fucking tapas and copas and doing whatever the fuck he wanted to do,
44:58and you guys did nothing?
45:03He's still outside.
45:04He's on the street this whole time.
45:05I think I would be really upset.
45:09I had to face the fact that this person is never going to take accountability
45:12for anything he's ever done.
45:21If that was my community, I'd be like, what the fuck?
45:29Yeah, that makes me sick that he's on the streets,
45:31that he's doing intercambios with these young girls.
45:36Look at these little kids that are going out into the world,
45:39and their parents are sending them away.
45:41They think they're safe.
45:44I hate to think it, but I'm pretty sure that he hasn't stopped what he's been doing all these years.
45:53That he's laughing and smiling and going out with friends
45:56and pretending to be a person who isn't dangerous
46:00and doing exactly the opposite, telling girls that you'll be safe with me,
46:04and it just sickens me that he's still free.
46:10Nothing is happening to Manuel, and so there was almost like, what can I do?
46:17Like, what can we do to, like, make this stop?
46:21And so that's my role was to just figure out how to do it.
46:25So it doesn't surprise me in one iota that she's determined to do this for the other girls.
46:32When she was in elementary school, anybody that was being bothered,
46:35Gabrielle was in the middle, and I remember saying to her,
46:38Gabrielle, you're a rebel without a cause.
46:40You're like James Dean, and you need to just stop it.
46:44And this is Gabrielle. I mean, it was who she is.
46:51I didn't want to do this. I don't want to go to trial.
46:56I don't want to deal with this fucking bullshit,
46:59but if there are all these other women,
47:01and this is a fucking...
47:03Every semester there are new girls.
47:08I felt like I needed to do something.
47:10Suddenly, it went from, I don't want anything to do,
47:13I'm not prosecuting, I don't want to talk about it,
47:16it went from that to, we have to do something.
47:20So, this is just, like, the beginning.
47:23It was the beginning for the both of us.
47:25For him and me.
47:39Yes.
47:41Yes.
Oye, no me toques.
48:00durante aquel viaje. Yo no he hecho nada.
48:17No he hecho nada.
48:45No he hecho nada.
49:11No he hecho nada.
49:41No he hecho nada.
49:43No he hecho nada.
50:08No he hecho nada.
50:10No he hecho nada.
50:28No he hecho nada.
50:28No he hecho nada.
