00:00You've got to be a hardcore Nintendo guy to get excited about this.
00:04Hey everyone, so I'm a massive Nintendo fan here at Tom's Guide.
00:07I've definitely made that no secret.
00:08And when the Virtual Boy came out, I tested it out.
00:10I thought it was pretty cool, but I wanted to bring my colleague Tony here to try it out.
00:14He's a little more of a skeptic, we could say, when it comes to the Virtual Boy.
00:17Yeah, that's fair to say, yeah.
00:18And bringing it back was a little bit of a questionable decision in your eyes.
00:21Yeah, because this thing originally released in 1995.
00:24I was 15 at the time.
00:25I wasn't even born.
00:26Yeah, you weren't even born.
00:27I didn't buy this.
00:28I did check this out, one of those store kiosks and stuff.
00:32Very strange.
00:33And again, I'm not knocking Nintendo for bringing it back.
00:36I just question why.
00:38So I'm definitely curious to see it, try it as an adult.
00:42Yeah, let's do it.
00:43Let's see what you think.
00:43All right, so we're starting this up here.
00:46So, so far...
00:47And you're playing Wario Land.
00:48I'm playing Wario Land, the infamous red graphics.
00:52Okay, so, so far, I'm not going to say it's the exact 3D effect,
00:56but I can kind of see, like, the arms are, like, coming out at you.
01:00Oh, there we go.
01:01There's the 3D.
01:02So right now, there's, like, a spinning boulder coming at me.
01:05That's kind of cool.
01:06It is strange just to play it all red.
01:08And apparently, like, back then, they felt that was, like, the color that helped things pop out more.
01:14I don't understand the reasoning for that, but I'm not knocking it.
01:17It's just, like, what?
01:18We have, like, way better VR machines now, you know?
01:22But, you know, it is a nice nod to, you know, the old school fans for sure.
01:27Okay.
01:28Virtual Boy.
01:29Yeah.
01:29That's $100.
01:30$100.
01:31It is a cardboard-only version for $25.
01:33Both can use the Switch 2 or the Switch, and you need Switch Online to play the Virtual Boy games
01:38that you're playing.
01:38That's right, yeah.
01:39So would you say your experience was worse than you expected, what you expected, or better than expected?
01:44I'm going to say better than expected.
01:46Okay, that's good.
01:46Yeah, it was actually, like, pretty seamless.
01:48Again, the red is kind of weird.
01:50The graphics look kind of cool, and the controls are really good.
01:53Comfortable, too, right?
01:54Yeah, very comfortable.
01:56It is odd that you have to, like, go down to this thing.
01:58Like, I'm used to having something, like, strapped on your head about the same time.
02:02I also don't like having things strapped on my head.
02:04So this is kind of good in that way.
02:05Like, if you adjust this just right, I could see being able to play this for a while.
02:09And guess what?
02:10I didn't lose red.
02:11Like, I could see red perfectly fine.
02:13So, again, kind of weird to bring it back, but it is also kind of cool.
02:17Awesome.
02:17All right, well, for everything else Nintendo and cool, stay right here at Tom's Guide.
