00:00:00The cylinder on the end of a cable is sitting there, useless as it might seem.
00:00:05In fact, this is a ferrite bead that assists with many electrical wires to reduce electromagnetic interference.
00:00:13Electrical wires act like unintentional antennas, broadcasting the EMI.
00:00:20There's a reason why the spinning wheel inside their microwave is circular.
00:00:24A circular object will evenly distribute the heat as opposed to a rectangular and square one.
00:00:30When you place containers of these shapes inside, the energy is focused on the corners, rather than spread evenly like
00:00:38in a round container.
00:00:41The temperature gauge on a toaster is commonly used to determine how crisp you like your toast.
00:00:46But the other, more specific use for the gauge was for the different types of bread.
00:00:52White and sweet types of bread heat up much faster as opposed to heavier brown and rye ones.
00:00:58The older bread is, the more time it will need in a toaster to ensure the golden brown results you're
00:01:04looking for.
00:01:06Most ovens give you the option of leaving the door ajar when broiling a dish inside.
00:01:12You probably think the goal here is to help cool down the oven after use.
00:01:17In reality, its purpose is to focus on cooking the top of the dish and to ensure a crusty layer.
00:01:24Controlling the buildup of heat and steam by releasing it through the slightly ajar door gives you the desired result
00:01:31without cooking the entire dish to a crispy end.
00:01:35You probably have noticed that your dishwasher has specific areas for different types of cutleries and dishware.
00:01:42But all the dishware pieces should be facing towards the center and not all in one direction.
00:01:48What types of foods were on the plates will also determine where they should be located in the racks.
00:01:54As the middle of the machine gets the strongest spray, carb-based stains from tomatoes and potatoes should be placed
00:02:01there.
00:02:02The detergent is more focused on the outside during the clean, creating a waterfall-like cleanse.
00:02:09That's why protein-based stains, like from eggs for example, should be stacked there.
00:02:16Ceiling fans push cool air down on a hot day, circulating the room.
00:02:21But they can serve you during the winter just as effectively if you flick that switch on the side or
00:02:26use the pulley.
00:02:28So if you want to save some money on heating and try to quickly warm up your room on a
00:02:33cold day, turn the fan on.
00:02:34It will push the air up and spread the warm air around, more effectively warming the room up.
00:02:41Do you still use sticky notes instead of those fancy new apps on all possible gadgets?
00:02:47Welcome to the club.
00:02:48Regardless of what you use them for, they can annoyingly curl up.
00:02:52If you've had this issue, it's because you've peeled them from the bottom upwards.
00:02:57Doing it this way causes the curling.
00:03:00Peeling them from the side will ensure they remain flat, ready to remind you of your daily tasks.
00:03:06Did you know that can openers weren't invented until 50 years after preservation cans had been readily available?
00:03:13So how would it be possible to open a can?
00:03:16There are a couple of alternative methods just in case you've misplaced your trusty opener.
00:03:22All you need is a metal spoon.
00:03:24Set the can down on the counter.
00:03:26Hold onto it firmly and grasp the head of the spoon tightly.
00:03:31Apply pressure and vigorously rub the edge of the can's top over a small area.
00:03:36It takes time, but as you continuously rub, a small indentation soon opens a hole.
00:03:42Once the hole is wide enough for the spoon's tip, pry the lid upwards and keep going along the edges
00:03:47until you can finally access the hard-earned meal within.
00:03:52Most toilets rely on water pressure and gravity to function, so a power outage will not affect them.
00:03:59But if yours does need electricity to function, you must be worried about using it when the power is out.
00:04:05The good news is, the power is only used to fill the toilet and not to flush it.
00:04:10As the flushing mechanism will still work, open the toilet tank and pour in a couple of gallons,
00:04:15and you're free to flush away whatever you need to.
00:04:20Blockages in shower drains occur over a long period of time.
00:04:23It's inevitable.
00:04:24We lose 50 to 100 hairs a day, and many of them will endeavor to reside within our shower drains.
00:04:31Hair only forms the foundations of the blockage, and this attracts the buildup of various other things.
00:04:37A great life hack is to use your vacuum cleaner and put the nozzle in the hole once removing the
00:04:42plug.
00:04:43Apply a wet cloth around the nozzle, ensuring air cannot escape.
00:04:47The vacuum will suck up the blockages a lot easier.
00:04:51This will help avoid any extra costs from plumbers, as they themselves use this technique.
00:04:58To make your candles last longer, trim their wicks multiple times and keep them as far away from water and
00:05:04moist as possible.
00:05:05It will guarantee that your candle's wax stays firm and steady, and continues to burn slower for a longer period
00:05:12of time.
00:05:14The empty space between the panes of the oven door is there for a reason.
00:05:19You can stick a brush in there to clean the oven door glass.
00:05:22It's easy to access the space through the bottom of the door, open the lower shelf, then push the brush
00:05:28through the hole.
00:05:30While you're parking in a garage, you might find it difficult to determine how close to it you need to
00:05:36be.
00:05:36Not all cars have sensors, ensuring you keep the right distance before the bumper makes an indentation on the wall.
00:05:43Applying a rope with a tennis ball from the ceiling at the right distance will help you learn the best
00:05:48distance to park from the wall.
00:05:51We've all been told to loosen a lock with WD-40 or lubricant.
00:05:55Yes, we all know we should have these around the house.
00:05:58But in case you don't, a great alternative is drawing with a grey lead pencil along the edges of the
00:06:04key and then putting it into the lock.
00:06:07Continue doing this until the keyhole has been adequately lubricated and the key functions smoothly.
00:06:14Pliers are prone to damage when you use them to adjust faucets and shower heads and are also difficult to
00:06:20grip.
00:06:21Take a couple of pieces from the end of an old garden hose and attach them to the jaws of
00:06:26the pliers.
00:06:27You'll find a huge improvement with grip and will avoid wear and tear.
00:06:33You can find a good use for discarded rubber for different things around the house.
00:06:37When fed up with tightening or loosening with a screwdriver, try using a simple rubber band.
00:06:44Place part of it into the screw grip and the screwdriver will have far greater traction.
00:06:50Moving cement blocks isn't safe for your lower back.
00:06:54Even with a wheelbarrow, it can be a risky process to place the cement onto the ground without causing damage.
00:07:00Three simple cylinder pipes can make a world of difference, regardless of the size of the block.
00:07:05Try lifting the edge onto the first pipe with a pry bar, then pushing and maneuvering as you gradually direct
00:07:12the three pipes towards the desired location.
00:07:15Just make sure you're not doing this on a slope.
00:07:19That first strike on a nail can be a great success or will result in a throbbing thumb.
00:07:25A bobby pin is perfectly shaped to hold a nail in place, allowing for your hand to be clear out
00:07:31of harm's way and for you to strike the nail without fear.
00:07:36Use a crayon instead of a pen or pencil while working with a wet saw to ensure the markings are
00:07:42not removed.
00:07:43They will also be easier to see under the murky water.
00:07:48Checking the drains on the roof and determining when they need to be cleaned can take a lot of time.
00:07:54Using duct tape, attach a mirror on the end of a long broom and review whether the drains need to
00:08:00be cleaned.
00:08:02To further assist with your balance as you check on the gutters, attach a pair of old trainers to the
00:08:07end of the ladder.
00:08:08The spread of the shoe and its grip will ensure a further level of safety.
00:08:14Liquid caulk normally comes in huge tubes, so you can never use it all at once.
00:08:19The hardened tips of liquid caulk create blockages.
00:08:23Grab a used cork and drill through it to make a perfect lid, concealing the liquid caulk.
00:08:28Now it's ready to be used again with no blockages.
00:08:33There's a dangerous dish that can poison you when prepared incorrectly.
00:08:37Everyday food like honey and cashew can be harmful too, in certain conditions.
00:08:42You should know these facts before you eat some products.
00:08:45Have you ever chewed the seeds when eating an apple?
00:08:48Then you know that unpleasant taste the seeds have.
00:08:51That's because of cyanide.
00:08:53Don't be alarmed yet.
00:08:54The seeds have a protective cloak covering them.
00:08:56That's why cyanide doesn't enter your system if you accidentally swallow the seeds.
00:09:02Better be cautious though.
00:09:04Even small doses of cyanide can result in rapid breathing and more extreme and unpleasant results.
00:09:11Another danger lurking in your kitchen is potatoes.
00:09:14The ones with sprouts and green spots.
00:09:16Cutting off the green parts or sprouts solves the problem only visibly.
00:09:21The toxic substance called glycoalkaloid may have already spread through the whole potato.
00:09:26This substance turns some parts of a potato green for some reason.
00:09:31It's a sign for you.
00:09:32Eating this kind of potato can cause nausea, headaches and other consequences.
00:09:38Are you a bubble tea fan?
00:09:40Then maybe you're familiar with cassava, aka tapioca.
00:09:44This is a root veggie and it's cultivated in South America.
00:09:48It's also often used to make cakes and chips.
00:09:51It can be either sweet or bitter.
00:09:53It's common for root and tuber varieties of cassava to contain toxins.
00:09:59Tapioca must be prepared properly before you consume it.
00:10:03If it's served incorrectly or eaten raw, the consequences are pretty serious.
00:10:08But when it's processed correctly, it's delicious and safe to eat.
00:10:13Elderberries are known as a supplement to boost your immune system and help your body fight a cold or the
00:10:19flu.
00:10:19This medicinal plant needs to be handled and prepared with care too.
00:10:24If you eat unripe berries, they can do more harm than good.
00:10:28Here comes lectin and cyanide.
00:10:30These chemicals can cause stomach problems for instance.
00:10:34This one makes me sad more than any other thing on the list.
00:10:37And this list includes a lot of healthy products.
00:10:41Anyway, here I spell it out.
00:10:43Popcorn
00:10:43There are many studies saying that microwave popcorn is harmful for you.
00:10:49First, you consume the chemicals used in packaging.
00:10:52There are also flavoring additives that aren't healthy.
00:10:56Now remember that moment when you open the bag and hot popcorn smelling air goes up into your nose?
00:11:02It can lead to irreversible lung damage.
00:11:05For instance, there's a diagnosis named popcorn lung.
00:11:08A chemical used to provide microwave popcorn with its buttery flavor is related to that diagnosis.
00:11:15What can you do?
00:11:16Choose other packaging options or invest in an air popper.
00:11:20Air popped popcorn has only 90 calories and less than 1 gram of fat.
00:11:26Yay!
00:11:27Number 6 is honey.
00:11:30Honey is a sweet liquid made by…
00:11:32I'm joking.
00:11:33But do you know that natural honey is dangerous to eat if the amount is more than a teaspoon?
00:11:38It has a toxin with a hard to pronounce name.
00:11:41To get rid of this toxin, honey has to go through a pasteurization process.
00:11:45Let's move on to cherry pits.
00:11:47If you don't chew or crunch them, you'll probably be fine.
00:11:51Yet, keep in mind that these pits contain prusic acid, and this stuff is poisonous.
00:11:58What about ackee fruit?
00:11:59It's the national fruit of Jamaica, and it turns out unripe ackee contains a poison called hypoglycem.
00:12:06Ackee fruit must be fully ripe if you want to eat it.
00:12:09In other words, this fruit should open up by itself.
00:12:13Once it's ready to be picked up, it'll split wide open.
00:12:16No to the highly toxic pink flesh or black seeds, and yes to the delicious creamy pulp near the seeds.
00:12:23Eating this fruit incorrectly can cause Jamaican stomach sickness.
00:12:29Fugu is the Japanese word for puffer fish, and the dish prepared from it.
00:12:33What's interesting about this dish is that it can be the last dish in your life if you don't prepare
00:12:39it properly.
00:12:40This fish contains a very powerful toxin that's very dangerous to humans.
00:12:45A single fish has enough poison to harm 30 people.
00:12:49Because of this, Japanese chefs undergo years of training to get a special license.
00:12:54Despite all precautions and preparations, fugu still sometimes becomes the last meal for some people.
00:13:01Would you take that risk?
00:13:04Perfect ciders, cashews.
00:13:06They can also be very risky to eat when they're raw.
00:13:09You probably get cashews from stores with raw cashew labels, but they aren't 100% raw.
00:13:15Before they find their spots on the shelves, they're processed with steam to remove a toxin called urushiol.
00:13:22Cashew shells contain this toxin.
00:13:24What would happen to you if you ate these nuts raw?
00:13:27A dangerous allergic reaction if you have a tendency to allergies.
00:13:31This depends on your sensitivity to poison ivy.
00:13:36Speaking of raw food, raw kidney beans are risky too.
00:13:40They contain a toxin called lectin.
00:13:42This one can give you stomach aches and other digestion-related issues as a bonus.
00:13:48All you need is to swallow 4 to 5 raw beans to experience these side effects.
00:13:53Red beans are rich in plant-based protein, essential vitamins, and minerals.
00:13:58Cook them correctly to enjoy these goodies.
00:14:00For this, keep dried red beans on the stove for at least 10 minutes.
00:14:05Boiling them for a shorter time and at a lower temperature can actually increase their toxicity.
00:14:10Beans can become even more toxic than if they are consumed raw.
00:14:14So yeah, a minimum of 10 minutes at high temperatures.
00:14:18Eating too many untreated bitter almonds can cause many unpleasant symptoms and health issues.
00:14:25Rhubarb leaves are a bit tricky too.
00:14:27You can eat the stalk, but don't munch on the leaves.
00:14:30The leaves contain oxalic acid, which ties to calcium.
00:14:34This makes it harder for the body to absorb the needed amounts of calcium.
00:14:39Mushrooms
00:14:40For plenty of people, pizza and pasta wouldn't be so great without mushrooms.
00:14:45We all know that mushrooms are kinda unpredictable, especially if they grow in the wild.
00:14:50Here are two of the most dangerous ones.
00:14:52The death cap and the destroying angel.
00:14:57Starfruit is a risky choice for people with sensitive kidneys.
00:15:00If you're one of them, you might want to keep this fruit out of your meals.
00:15:04Regularly functioning kidneys can filter out the toxins starfruit contains.
00:15:09Otherwise, the toxin will hang around and cause some problems there.
00:15:12The next product on the list is nutmeg.
00:15:16If you find that nutty flavor super nice like me, hear me out before adding it everywhere.
00:15:21Small amounts of nutmeg are fine and healthy.
00:15:25But if you, let's say, eat spoonfuls of nutmeg, it can cause problems.
00:15:29Even with two teaspoons.
00:15:30Knock, knock, you get poisoned.
00:15:34Canned tuna can be a lifesaver.
00:15:37It's not pricey, it's a good source of protein, and with its help, you can prepare a delicious meal quickly.
00:15:43No cooking, just lettuce, bread, and a few more ingredients.
00:15:47There you go.
00:15:48How about three to five times a week?
00:15:51And you might experience a side effect called mercury poisoning.
00:15:55Now, this is related to how much and what type of food you consume.
00:15:59Canned tuna contains mercury, and that's why eating too much of it can lead to mercury poisoning.
00:16:05Medical advisors say that every kind of fish has some level of mercury.
00:16:09But that level differs from one species to another.
00:16:13For example, canned tuna has relatively high levels of mercury.
00:16:18Obviously, seafood is a great source of omega-3 and other things that are essential to our brain and good
00:16:24health.
00:16:24To stay safe, experts advise people to choose low-mercury seafood.
00:16:29Here's an interesting fact related to this.
00:16:32To get the most omega-3 fats from your canned tuna, choose water-packed fish instead of oil-packed.
00:16:38In oil-packed cans, the oil mixes with some of the tuna's natural fat.
00:16:43You open the can and drain the oil, and some of the fish's omega-3 fatty acids also get drained.
00:16:49But water and oil don't mix.
00:16:52Water-packed tuna won't lose its omega-3 fats.
00:16:55You can add some oil and dressing after you open the can.
00:17:02Want to pour yourself a drink before we begin?
00:17:04Just make sure not to grab the glass with your palm.
00:17:07Yep, that's right.
00:17:08The glass has a stem for a reason.
00:17:10Touching the glass bowl with your hands will alter the drink's temperature.
00:17:14And it will get warmer much sooner.
00:17:17While we're in the kitchen, let's check out your fridge.
00:17:20Most of those come with designated areas in the door shelves for eggs.
00:17:24But this may not be the best solution for storing them.
00:17:26The temperature in the door shelves tends to be a bit higher than in the fridge itself.
00:17:31So it's not the best place to store delicate types of food, like eggs or dairy.
00:17:36Make sure to remember that after your next trip to the supermarket.
00:17:40Also, while we're still browsing items in the fridge, did you know that waiting for food
00:17:45to cool down before refrigerating it may be bad for it?
00:17:48Keeping food at room temperature for more than two hours can increase its chances of going bad.
00:17:54So, pop it in as soon as possible.
00:17:56Just make sure to divide your food into smaller batches to help it cool down quicker.
00:18:01What's that in your fridge I just saw?
00:18:04Chocolate?
00:18:04Well, that's a big no-no.
00:18:06Regardless of the season, remember to never store chocolate in the fridge.
00:18:10The lower temperatures inside can cause the chocolate flavor to dull.
00:18:14Also, who wants to eat rock-hard chocolate anyway?
00:18:18When it comes to breakfast, next time you boil an egg,
00:18:22try putting a teaspoon of baking soda into the water when boiling.
00:18:25The eggshells will peel off way easier.
00:18:29Another tip is to crack the egg on one end and run it under the tap.
00:18:33The water stream will help peel off the shell faster and with way less of a mess.
00:18:39Fan of smoothies?
00:18:40Bet you didn't know there's actually a correct way to load up your blender.
00:18:44Start with the liquids, then pile up the solids as you go.
00:18:47The motion created by the movement of the liquids will ensure a smooth, clump-free, delicious breakfast or snack.
00:18:54After that, you can clean it by simply adding some dishwashing soap and some water and letting it blend away.
00:19:01No need to add it to the dishwasher anymore since the full cycle of the dishwasher can damage the metal
00:19:06plates on the blender.
00:19:08If you're ever in the mood for a peanut butter sandwich, but the peanut butter is all split with the
00:19:13oils on top,
00:19:14remember, there's a correct way to store it.
00:19:17Placing the peanut butter jar upside down in your cupboard will ensure the oils are spread out evenly.
00:19:23Love a good steak but never get a perfect consistency?
00:19:26See, you're probably digging in too soon.
00:19:29You have to let the meat rest after cooking for at least 10 minutes before you start cutting it.
00:19:34Using the right knife will also give you better results.
00:19:37A sharp knife will ensure you don't lose any of those lovely meat juices.
00:19:42It's pasta night.
00:19:44Ever wondered why there's a hole in the middle of the spaghetti spoon?
00:19:47Turns out you can use that hole to check how much pasta to cook per person.
00:19:52Now you know exactly how much of it to boil for that special marinara sauce of yours.
00:19:57When using non-stick pans, never use metal utensils.
00:20:01Go for wooden or plastic ones instead.
00:20:04The metal will be way too rough on the surface of your pans and can actually damage the non-adherent
00:20:09surface.
00:20:10Are you a leftovers for dinner type of person?
00:20:13Aren't we all?
00:20:14Quick tip for reheating your dinner in the microwave.
00:20:16Try spreading the food around the edges of the plate.
00:20:20Microwaves are indeed designed to heat food as evenly as possible.
00:20:24But not if the food is piled up.
00:20:27Ever try to take out a single tic-tac from the tiny container?
00:20:31Just turn the box on its side.
00:20:33There's a cleverly designed slot on the plastic top precisely for that.
00:20:37No more shaking the tic-tac box like a maniac.
00:20:41If you're up for some music but don't have a speaker around, don't worry.
00:20:45Placing your phone in a cup or bowl will amplify the sound and make your experience so much better.
00:20:51In a hurry, and your phone is running out of battery, there's a simple way to reduce the charging time.
00:20:58Simply set the phone to airplane mode.
00:21:00You'll see, it'll charge up to 100% in no time.
00:21:04We all keep our phones in all sorts of places.
00:21:07Our pockets, bags, under our pillows.
00:21:10Hence, a lot of fuzz or lint can get stuck in the charging port.
00:21:13For safety reasons, turn the phone off before cleaning it.
00:21:16You can use specifically designed tools for cleaning the charging ports, speakers, or a microphone.
00:21:22Just be sure to be gentle.
00:21:25Nice desk you got there.
00:21:26Did you know that those little legs on the back of the keyboard are actually there to help you see
00:21:32the keys better?
00:21:33However, if you can type without having to look at the keyboard, don't use them to lift the keyboard up.
00:21:38This position can damage your wrists when using for a long period of time.
00:21:43If you like to keep your things organized and prefer to use sticky notes,
00:21:47just make sure to remove them from the notes cube from side to side to prevent curling.
00:21:53We all feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to storage, especially linens.
00:21:57One easy way to make sure you'll never get mixed sheets is to store each set in the matching pillowcase.
00:22:04Not only will you get easy access to each set, but it's way nicer to look at on the shelves.
00:22:10When it comes to storing clothing, people use wooden hangers for more than just aesthetic reasons.
00:22:15They may be bigger and heavier than plastic ones, but they also help repel moths.
00:22:19Keep that in mind, more so when storing winter clothes.
00:22:24Were you ever curious about that one extra loophole in your running shoes?
00:22:28That one just next to your ankles?
00:22:31Well, turns out it's there for a reason.
00:22:33The tighter the laces on your shoes, the less likely you are to get blisters.
00:22:38Always fit your shoes correctly and use that extra loop in the shoes if needed before you go for a
00:22:43run.
00:22:44Your dress shirts have a tiny secret too.
00:22:47On the inside of the shirt, right between the shoulders, there's a tiny loop that you can use to hang
00:22:52the garment whenever you don't have a hanger lying around.
00:22:56Nothing can ruin a good vacation more than unorganized baggage.
00:23:01To make sure you never have to stuff your luggage with a huge pile of random clothes,
00:23:06instead of folding, try rolling your stuff and placing it neatly in the baggage.
00:23:12This way, you save a lot of space.
00:23:15You have easy access to everything you need, and your clothes will be less wrinkled.
00:23:21Not to be intrusive, but there's a bunch of things I'd like to show you in the bathroom as well.
00:23:27Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds each time to get rid of all the germs.
00:23:32To save the effort, open and close the tap with your wrist if possible.
00:23:37There you go.
00:23:39Squeaky clean hands for a longer period of time.
00:23:43Always brush your hair from the bottom if you want to get rid of any knots.
00:23:48Brushing your hair from the top will only cause more damage.
00:23:53When it's time to wash your hair, be sure to concentrate the shampoo on the scalp.
00:23:58Be careful though, never to apply the shampoo directly to your head.
00:24:03Lather it a bit with some water between your hands before you start massaging it in.
00:24:08You can skip shampooing the lengths of your hair unless they're really dirty.
00:24:13The foam that goes down from your scalp is sufficient to clean that portion.
00:24:18Take good care of your loofah as well.
00:24:21Leaving it in a moist, warm shower can increase its chances of gathering all sorts of nasty bacteria.
00:24:28Either throw it in with your laundry once a week, or let it soak in a solution with diluted bleach.
00:24:36We're sure you always moisturize after your shower, but there's a correct way to do that too.
00:24:41Don't add too much cream on your face, and make sure to tap, not rub it in.
00:24:47Your skin will thank you for it.
00:24:50You don't have to be a dentist to know how important flossing is.
00:24:55Next time, try tying your floss in a knot.
00:24:58With the added tension and grip, your teeth will be cleaner in no time.
00:25:06Have you ever wondered what the color of your walls is signaling to you?
00:25:10Or have you ever noticed that working from a wooden table can help you get your creative juices flowing more
00:25:16than a plastic one?
00:25:17Tag along to uncover everyday household secrets that will make your life better and brighter.
00:25:24First, walls.
00:25:26If you're a homeowner, you've probably had to make tough decisions regarding what color you'd like to paint your walls.
00:25:31If your only priority was doing it cheaply, then I'd guess you went with white paint, right?
00:25:37Painting a room white has many positive effects.
00:25:40It can make your space feel wider, quieter, and cleaner.
00:25:44But there's more to white paint than we think.
00:25:48Only a few white paints are actually purely white.
00:25:52According to architects and interior designers, white paint can come with bluish, reddish, yellowish, and even greenish undertones.
00:25:59To know how white your wall paint really is, hold a sheet of white paper next to it, and there
00:26:06you'll have it.
00:26:08Did you know that the same white paint can look different in, say, Seattle than in Florida?
00:26:14It's just like your eyes slightly changing their hue depending on what you're wearing.
00:26:18The white paint on your wall will look different depending on where in the world you live,
00:26:22what type of light your apartment gets, and what furniture you use to decorate your space.
00:26:29If you have trouble sleeping these days, consider painting all the walls in your room white.
00:26:34According to sleep experts, an all-white bedroom reduces distractions
00:26:38and creates a tranquil and zen-like environment, which can help you relax and wind down for bed.
00:26:44There's a branch of psychology that studies the effects of colors on people's moods and behaviors.
00:26:50Have you ever noticed how you can feel hyper-energetic and maybe even a little anxious in a bright yellow
00:26:55room?
00:26:55Or how you can feel calm and relaxed in a light blue painted environment?
00:27:00Take a look at the color wheel for a moment.
00:27:03Colors from the red part of the spectrum are considered to be warm,
00:27:06and they include not only red, but also orange and yellow.
00:27:10These warm colors can evoke a range of feelings depending on their tones.
00:27:14Feelings that vary from warmth and comfort to more active emotions of excitement and even angriness.
00:27:20Now, the blue side of the wheel hosts what are called cool colors, which include blue, purple, and green.
00:27:28They are normally soothing, but can also fall into the spectrum of sadness.
00:27:33So do pay attention to which tone of blue you'll choose when redecorating your apartment.
00:27:38But now that you've finally decided on the new color patterns for your house,
00:27:42it's time to do that good old rearranging of furniture.
00:27:45Ever heard of feng shui?
00:27:48And no, it's not only the art of endlessly moving your couch around until it finally feels right.
00:27:53It's an ancient Chinese practice that's been around for several thousands of years.
00:27:58In Chinese, feng means wind, and shui means water.
00:28:03Culturally, these elements are associated with strong health and good fortune.
00:28:08According to this philosophy, a well-organized home can help us achieve our life goals and ideals more easily.
00:28:15And that's what it's mainly about.
00:28:17For instance, if you're feeling a little blocked, creatively speaking,
00:28:21and have tried all sorts of things to get your juices flowing, try one more thing.
00:28:25Add a little wood to your working environment, or things such as plants and trees.
00:28:31Having candles around, aromatic or not, can also be a good practice
00:28:35if you're in need of a little inspiration and enthusiasm in your daily life.
00:28:40And what about the front door?
00:28:42Many times before we even notice it,
00:28:45we cross paths with a welcoming or sometimes even unwelcoming doormat.
00:28:49Today you can find them in all styles and colors.
00:28:52But, have you ever noticed if people are placing their doormats in the correct position?
00:28:58The function of a doormat is to clean the sole of a person's shoe before they enter an apartment.
00:29:03And yet, somewhere in history, we interpret that the best way for it to be achieved
00:29:08was to place our doormats horizontally,
00:29:11with the rim of the carpet parallel to the rim of the door.
00:29:14Now, this isn't the case at all.
00:29:16You should place your doormat vertically, creating a long carpet walk from the street to the house.
00:29:22This way, a person takes more steps until they reach the house.
00:29:26And the soles of their shoes are cleaner once they've crossed the house's threshold.
00:29:30And if we're still thinking of feng shui,
00:29:33they say you should pick your doormat color according to which direction your front door is facing.
00:29:38So, check this out.
00:29:39Open the Compass app on your phone and find out which cardinal direction your front door is facing.
00:29:46If it's facing the south, then the best colors for your doormat will be red, purple, deep orange, vivid yellow,
00:29:54or deep pink.
00:29:55But, if it's facing north, let's say then you should be on metallic colors, like white and gray.
00:30:02Oh yes, a basic feng shui tip would be to get rid of any clutter.
00:30:06All those old papers you've been keeping for some mysterious reason,
00:30:10or all that childhood memorabilia you're probably not using,
00:30:13I'd say take that directly to the nearest trash can.
00:30:16This is one of the success secrets of one of the most prominent home organizing experts of today, Marie Kondo.
00:30:23Maybe you've seen some of your neighbors getting rid of rows of clothes,
00:30:27some even with their tags on.
00:30:29And when you finally decide to ask them why they're doing that,
00:30:32they answered,
00:30:32It doesn't bring me any more joy.
00:30:35This is the condo's motto.
00:30:37Only keep it if it still brings you joy.
00:30:40Another tip is to learn how to layer clothes vertically.
00:30:44Yes, you heard that right.
00:30:45Our default folding techniques usually tend towards the horizontal,
00:30:49meaning that we place our shirts on top of one another.
00:30:53To save yourself from going through the entire drawer of folded t-shirts
00:30:57to find the one that you need on the very bottom,
00:30:59and then dealing with the mess you leave behind.
00:31:02Arrange clothing, towels, and similar items vertically.
00:31:06This way, you'll save space since more shirts will fit in the drawer.
00:31:10And also, it'll be much easier to find the t-shirt you're looking for.
00:31:15And let's say you've finished redecorating and feng shui-ing your entire home.
00:31:19Now what?
00:31:20Well, if you're feeling inspired,
00:31:22do give making your home cleaning products a try.
00:31:25It's easy, very sustainable,
00:31:27and makes for a nice morning of artisanal work.
00:31:30For instance, you can make a multifunctional cleaner with all natural ingredients
00:31:35just by putting a bunch of daily resources together.
00:31:38For this experiment, you'll need 1 quarter cup white vinegar,
00:31:421 quarter cup bicarbonate of soda,
00:31:44a squeeze of any liquid soap,
00:31:46and 2 cups of water.
00:31:48Give it a good shake.
00:31:50And there you go.
00:31:51Nice and easy and ready to use.
00:31:52You can keep it in a spray bottle to use whenever you need to get some cleaning done.
00:31:57It can help remove a tough stain on your clothes.
00:31:59Or even the carpet.
00:32:01And if you still got an extra hour or so to spare,
00:32:04how about making some other DIY?
00:32:06Say on your last trip to the supermarket,
00:32:09you bought several products that came in glass jars.
00:32:12After you've used them all,
00:32:14wash them clean and re-utilize them.
00:32:16You can use a medium-sized jar to make a new home for a succulent
00:32:21or even a suspended garden of herbs.
00:32:24Just add about an inch of rocks for filtering.
00:32:28Then, top it up with some dirt.
00:32:31Next, you'll plant the herb or the succulent in the jar
00:32:34and tie it all up with some twine so you can hang it in your kitchen
00:32:38or in your bedroom on top of the bedside table, for instance.
00:32:43If you're not a plant person,
00:32:45you can also use your glass jars to make an aroma diffuser.
00:32:50For this, you'll need a few drops of essential oil.
00:32:53You can use lavender or rosemary,
00:32:56some water to dilute the oil,
00:32:58and an old pair of chopsticks you've been keeping in your drawer but never used.
00:33:03Well, there you have it.
00:33:04Don't forget to keep switching the ends of your chopsticks every once in a while,
00:33:08since it's the moist bits that diffuse the oil.
00:33:13We know how much homeowners love to make their houses picture-perfect.
00:33:17It can soon become a struggle, though,
00:33:19once you've tried to flatten out those pesky corners of a new rug.
00:33:22But there is one genius trick that can help.
00:33:25Just plop a few ice cubes and a heavy object on the corner,
00:33:29and voila!
00:33:30Flat rug.
00:33:31No more tripping over the rolled-up edges.
00:33:34Sitting in your car, frozen and grumpy,
00:33:37watching your window slowly defrost is about as fun as watching paint dry.
00:33:42And let's not forget the disaster that is wiping the mist off the inside.
00:33:46But hey, if you don't want to risk getting slapped with a fine,
00:33:49you better give this funky de-misting trick a try.
00:33:52People have tried it all,
00:33:54but apparently, it was the cat litter that won the condensation game.
00:33:58Just grab an old sock or pair of tights.
00:34:01Fill them up with cat litter.
00:34:03Tie it up and plop it under your car's windows.
00:34:06It's so effective that it should do the trick in just 10 minutes.
00:34:09The cat litter works by absorbing the moisture in the air.
00:34:14Cleaning our stoves ain't fun either, let's be honest.
00:34:17But fear not, because one cleaning guru on TikTok
00:34:20has come to the rescue with a genius trick
00:34:22that'll make cleaning your stove a breeze.
00:34:25All you need is some oven spray,
00:34:27cling film, and a lot of patience.
00:34:30Start by spraying some cleaning product on the stove.
00:34:33Then, cover the whole thing in cling film.
00:34:36Here's where your patience will be needed.
00:34:38You'll have to wait a whole day for the cleaning product to work its magic.
00:34:42But trust me, once you remove that cling film,
00:34:45the stains will have melted off.
00:34:47That leftover mess on your stove can be scrubbed off easily now.
00:34:51Finish the job using a regular cloth for the rest of the grind.
00:34:56It's time you forget about fancy-schmancy car trash cans.
00:35:00Why waste your money on those when you can repurpose a plastic cereal container?
00:35:04It's small enough to fit in your car,
00:35:06and the flip-top opening means your trash won't go flying all over the place
00:35:10when you take sharp turns.
00:35:12Plus, just line it with a plastic grocery bag,
00:35:15and you're ready to go.
00:35:17Feel like your feet need a bit of pampering?
00:35:20You can skip the expensive spa day at your local salon.
00:35:24All you need is a sanitary pad,
00:35:26some toothpaste,
00:35:27and baking soda.
00:35:29Mix the toothpaste with the baking soda powder
00:35:31and spread it evenly on the pad.
00:35:33Place it on the soles of your feet
00:35:35and slip a sock on so it's nice and snuggly.
00:35:38The pad should keep the mixture and moisture in
00:35:41so you don't make a mess all over your house.
00:35:44After an hour or two,
00:35:46rinse off the toothpaste mixture with plenty of water.
00:35:49You'll notice how soft the soles of your feet have become.
00:35:53For that extra step,
00:35:54add some moisturizer too.
00:35:57Those trusty sanitary pads can be used
00:35:59for all sorts of stuff around your house too,
00:36:02like for freshening up your drawers.
00:36:05Just spritz some perfume on a pad.
00:36:07Place it next to your clothes of choice,
00:36:09and voila!
00:36:10Your gym clothes, for example,
00:36:12will smell like a fragrant bouquet.
00:36:14And don't forget to throw one in your gym bag too.
00:36:18Oh boy, time to give those lampshades the love they deserve.
00:36:22Grab a trusty lint roller and watch in amazement
00:36:25as you unveil a whole new world of colors
00:36:27underneath that forever dust.
00:36:29Who knew your lampshades were secretly chameleon?
00:36:34Say goodbye to dog hair
00:36:35and hello to your new household best friend,
00:36:38the rubber squeegee brush.
00:36:40This bad boy can snatch up so much fur from your carpet
00:36:43that you'll be wondering if you even own a pet.
00:36:46Just stroke it short and quick over your rug
00:36:49and watch it unleash a furry storm.
00:36:51And if you're wondering about your hardwood floors,
00:36:54fear not.
00:36:55The rubber bristles work like magic
00:36:57to create one giant fur ball.
00:37:01Save yourself from cleaning cabinets and furniture tops
00:37:04by hooking them up with fashionable hats.
00:37:07They're made out of wax paper or paper bags.
00:37:10The dirt and grease will stick to your new accessories
00:37:12and when it's time for a new look,
00:37:14just swap them out every few months.
00:37:17You know that feeling when you finally peel off
00:37:20a bumper sticker or parking permit,
00:37:22but then you're left with a sticky mess?
00:37:24There's a simple solution though.
00:37:26Slap a wet piece of newspaper on top of that gunk
00:37:29and let it marinate for 15 minutes.
00:37:32Then poof, the glue will be as soft as a fluffy cloud
00:37:35and you can wipe it away with ease.
00:37:38If your dishwasher is stinking up your kitchen,
00:37:41it's time to get your detective hat on.
00:37:43Check that filter for any leftovers lurking in there.
00:37:46Then add a splash of vinegar to your next hot wash cycle.
00:37:49Those pesky food particles could be the culprits
00:37:52behind your dishwasher's funky fragrance.
00:37:56Get ready to be a Vaseline wizard.
00:37:59Say goodbye to pesky polish smudges with a simple solution.
00:38:02Slather some Vaseline around your nails
00:38:05before you go to town with a brush.
00:38:07Once you're done, wipe away the excess
00:38:09without the need for any nail polish remover.
00:38:12And if you're feeling fancy,
00:38:14make that perfume last even longer
00:38:16by adding a touch of Vaseline to your neck and wrists.
00:38:19It's like a scent superhero,
00:38:22keeping those fragrance molecules from flying away too soon.
00:38:26Have you checked out your shower curtain lately?
00:38:28It might be looking pretty grimy and gross.
00:38:31Toss that bad boy in the washing machine
00:38:34with a couple of towels and voila,
00:38:36no more soap scum stains.
00:38:38The towels will help with scrubbing away all that mess
00:38:41while they're tumbling in the washing machine.
00:38:44Say goodbye to single socks with a strip of foam pipe insulation.
00:38:49Measure and cut each piece,
00:38:51then place it in that sneaky gap between your washer and dryer or wall.
00:38:55Those pesky socks will never go missing again.
00:39:00Got a wobbly table that's cramping your style?
00:39:03Your trusty bottle cork is here to save the day.
00:39:08Slice off a piece of that bad boy,
00:39:10glue it to the wobbly leg,
00:39:12and voila!
00:39:13You've got yourself a sturdy surface
00:39:16to rest your drink on.
00:39:19A hammer is more than just a smashing tool.
00:39:23The back of this tool can actually hold a nail for you.
00:39:28No more risking your fingers
00:39:30or giving yourself a thumbectomy.
00:39:32Just slide it into the claw,
00:39:34and bam, you're ready to nail it.
00:39:38Want to know the saucy way to pick up a sizzling lid?
00:39:42Ditch those boring oven mitts
00:39:44and grab yourself a pair of tongs.
00:39:47But wait, don't just go in head first.
00:39:51Use the middle.
00:39:53Trust me, it's hot and it's effective.
00:39:57Care to find out how to keep your dressing gown
00:40:00from slipping and sliding all over the place?
00:40:03Got you covered.
00:40:05Instead of going through all the loops,
00:40:07just place the cord through the front ones.
00:40:10You don't even need it to be wrapped around you.
00:40:14All the business will be in the front.
00:40:17Tie that cord up nice and tight,
00:40:20and you'll be strutting around in no time.
00:40:24Bet you didn't know the right way
00:40:26to light a multi-wit candle.
00:40:28You'll never hurt the tips of your fingers again.
00:40:32Truth is, you don't light them one by one.
00:40:36Just light the first one.
00:40:37Then angle the candle in the right position
00:40:41so it lights up the other ones too.
00:40:45So, apparently, we've all been using deodorant wrong.
00:40:50Who knew?
00:40:51You're supposed to lather that stuff on before going to bed.
00:40:56That's because our underarms are supposed to soak it in overnight
00:41:01for maximum effectiveness.
00:41:04I'm here to save you from the USB struggle bus.
00:41:08You know that symbol on the cord?
00:41:10Yeah, it's not just there for decoration.
00:41:14Align the seam with the opposite edge of the tongue,
00:41:17and voila, you're in business.
00:41:19No more flipping it upside down and sideways like a crazy person.
00:41:24Thank me later.
00:41:24Hey, buddy, looks like you had some fun in the great outdoors.
00:41:30As adorable as those paw prints look,
00:41:32your mama still needs to clean them.
00:41:36Spreading soda over the carpet and then vacuuming it
00:41:39works like magic for such cases.
00:41:43Artistic people can be messy sometimes.
00:41:46No judgment here.
00:41:47I know it's all part of the creative process.
00:41:51But this hack will actually help save time from cleaning
00:41:54only to paint more.
00:41:57I think that's more than enough laundry detergent.
00:42:01Yep, she agrees with me.
00:42:03There's a way to make sure he uses the right amount next time.
00:42:08Just put the ice tray in the freezer
00:42:10and you'll have yourself jelly detergent cubes.
00:42:15Hey, this will save you money too, you know.
00:42:18Cleaning your brushes is such a bore.
00:42:21It's definitely something that tests one's patience.
00:42:25This shaving foam hack will save you a lot of time.
00:42:29I feel like that amount of hair will clog the sink though.
00:42:33Remember what parents always say,
00:42:35wash your hands before eating something.
00:42:40But looks like that's not an easy task
00:42:42with those melted soap bars.
00:42:45A couple of rubber bands will help you save your soap.
00:42:51It won't be touching water all the time
00:42:53and therefore, it'll last longer.
00:42:57Oh man, I hate it when bottles get all dirty inside.
00:43:02If you're not Mr. Fantastic with the ability
00:43:04to stretch your body into any shape,
00:43:06then this looks like an impossible task.
00:43:11Hey, wait, maybe I was looking at it the wrong way.
00:43:14Magneto's powers will work perfectly fine here.
00:43:18I feel like you'll need a stronger magnet, however.
00:43:22Wow, this bottle looks brand new now.
00:43:25Don't you just hate that cooking and cleaning takes forever,
00:43:28but eating the dish you made takes like 15 minutes?
00:43:34Guess that guy leaves all the hard work to the lady.
00:43:38Don't worry, miss.
00:43:39There's a way you can avoid this disaster.
00:43:43Just cover the surfaces with stretch film and that's it.
00:43:47Now you don't need to get anxious
00:43:49about all the cleaning you'll have to do later.
00:43:53Hope this won't cause you to be late for your work.
00:43:57Because how are you going to explain this to your boss?
00:44:01You can't just say I had to wait
00:44:03for the stinky odor to go away.
00:44:08It's always a real struggle to get the corners, am I right?
00:44:13But it's nothing a couple of straws can't fix.
00:44:17No dust left behind is the motto.
00:44:20You can firmly clean all the nooks and crannies
00:44:22that the regular vacuum head can't get to.
00:44:28If you're a jar collector like I am,
00:44:30then you already got everything you'll need for this hack.
00:44:36This is what being smart looks like, everyone.
00:44:39By the way, looks like you've been postponing
00:44:41doing the dishes for a while now, huh?
00:44:46Don't worry, no judgments.
00:44:48We've all been there.
00:44:50Those toothbrushes were basically swimming in there.
00:44:54But the glass filling up with water is inevitable, really.
00:44:58However, Orbeez balls can make the process a lot slower.
00:45:03Somebody needs to replace the paper towel.
00:45:07But don't head to the store just yet.
00:45:10I suggest you ditch paper towels altogether
00:45:12and go for this reusable option.
00:45:16You'll be saving a lot of bucks.
00:45:18Thank me later.
00:45:20Whoa, have you been collecting dirty makeup sponges or what?
00:45:25Don't use them until they're all clean.
00:45:27Otherwise, I'm pretty sure they'll give you pimples.
00:45:32Looks like this is gonna take a while.
00:45:35But the satisfaction you'll get once you see them all clean will be worth it.
00:45:41These kind of look like Easter eggs to me.
00:45:44By the way, do you really need that many sponges to do your makeup?
00:45:50It's all fun and games until someone spills all the glitter on the floor.
00:45:55Worry not, we got you.
00:45:58Hey, good to see you recycling.
00:46:00No, you don't need a bigger bin, trust me.
00:46:03All you need is to know this one hack.
00:46:06And let's get this one thing straight.
00:46:08I know this is science, but it sure feels like magic.
00:46:13Honey, I shrunk the trash.
00:46:15Look at the difference here.
00:46:17It's a relief to see you don't have a pile of dirty dishes like the lady before.
00:46:23But how are you going to explain that sink?
00:46:26Seems like you've been ignoring it for quite some time now.
00:46:31That's why you need something strong to scrub there.
00:46:36But I have a better solution.
00:46:38One that won't tire you.
00:46:41Just apply a coat of dish soap and soda mixture all around the sink and wait.
00:46:46I wouldn't believe how it works wonders if I didn't see it with my own eyes.
00:46:53You're gonna hurt your back and knees cleaning like this.
00:46:58You know, robot vacuum cleaners don't need coffee breaks, right?
00:47:02So put that thing to work.
00:47:05In the meantime, you can just relax and maybe even start reading the book you bought six months ago.
00:47:13No matter how many times you clean the stove, it always gets dirty at the end of the day, right?
00:47:20Well, not anymore.
00:47:22Hey, I think I'm gonna give this a try using glitter glue.
00:47:25It'll help make things more fun.
00:47:29You should have bought a trash bin with a lid.
00:47:32To avoid the awful stench, you know.
00:47:35Although this hack won't make the trash smell good or anything, it will at least help keep your bin fresh
00:47:40and nice.
00:47:44I know this is not a food hacks video, but that doesn't stop me from wanting some snacks now.
00:47:51Even if you're too old to play with slimes, it might be a good idea to keep one at home
00:47:55for stuff like this.
00:48:04If I were you, I would still disinfect that with antibacterial wipes or something, just in case.
00:48:11Hey, it's her turn to pick the movie now.
00:48:14Uh-oh, someone's forgotten to add laundry powder to the shopping list.
00:48:19That's okay, you can still make your own with everyday things, such as baking soda and a soap bar.
00:48:26This lady is one of the lucky ones because she has a dishwasher.
00:48:31Placing a piece of lemon, even one that's been juiced, will help freshen the load and leave your dishes looking
00:48:36shinier.
00:48:40This is why I never wear white socks if I'm going to visit someone else's house.
00:48:46Because I don't really want to see how dirty their floors might be, you know?
00:48:52Using bleach for situations like this may help, but it might also ruin your garments.
00:48:59That's why this hack is the better option to make white clothes look great again.
00:49:05You might want to clean the microwave after you're done, though.
00:49:10This phone case looks like it's been through some tough stuff.
00:49:15Let's give it the second chance it deserves.
00:49:18All you need to do is apply WD-40 spray, pour some soda, and rinse it out.
00:49:24By the way, if you have sensitive skin, you might want to wear protective gloves to avoid irritation.
00:49:31Better safe than sorry.
00:49:33Cleaning stubborn stains on a glass stovetop can be tricky.
00:49:38There's always the risk of causing scratches on the surface.
00:49:43That's why any type of scrubbing or scraping action is not advised.
00:49:48Did you know that according to one poll, an average person spends more than six days a year washing dishes?
00:49:56Then there's all the other cleaning stuff that needs to be done.
00:50:01But knowing the right hacks will save you a lot of time and make your life so much easier.
00:50:08Wow, your shoes are definitely cleaner than this house.
00:50:12Who knew shoelaces would work like a charm when it comes to getting rid of all the dust and rust?
00:50:19Is it time to go to bed yet or are you tired of all the work you've done around the
00:50:23house?
00:50:26I was being sarcastic.
00:50:28Your partner did all the work.
00:50:30So saving her toothbrush is the least you can do.
00:50:34If you see someone putting ketchup on some car, it doesn't mean you're witnessing them preparing a prank.
00:50:41It means they're just taking care of their car.
00:50:44Yup, it goes great with hamburgers and hot dogs, but it goes even better with cars since it has ingredients
00:50:51that are good at removing rust.
00:50:53Rust occurs when the metal gets exposed to moisture, oxygen, and heat.
00:50:59And due to weather conditions, it's hard to avoid it.
00:51:02When you leave rust for a longer time and don't deal with it, it will continue to degrade the metal.
00:51:09So you need to get rid of it before your car becomes physically useless.
00:51:15That's when ketchup comes in.
00:51:17Its key ingredient is tomatoes.
00:51:19And they have many nutrients similar to those you can find in oranges and some other citrus fruits.
00:51:27For instance, citric acid can help you remove rust from metal surfaces since it eats through rust.
00:51:33We're not talking about the cars only.
00:51:36You can use it on metallic kitchenwares, furniture parts, jewelry, and rust spots on generally any metallic item.
00:51:44You can combine it with washing soda.
00:51:47It's not quite effective against rust.
00:51:49But when you combine it with ketchup, it'll do the work.
00:51:53Mix these two and apply them to the rusted area.
00:51:57Leave it like that for about half an hour and wash it with a wet cloth or sponge.
00:52:03You can combine ketchup with salt instead.
00:52:06Or just apply a lot of it on the rusty area without using any additional ingredients.
00:52:13Ketchup removes tarnish from brass copper, too.
00:52:17Put it on brass hardware on doors and cabinets or some accessories such as bowls and candlesticks for 10 minutes
00:52:24to make it all shine.
00:52:26And also, you don't put it on meat just because of taste.
00:52:30Ketchup breaks down its fibers, which means it makes it more tender.
00:52:36If you've left a pot on the stove and your food burned, once again, take ketchup.
00:52:41Its acids will ease all the scrubbing and help you with grease.
00:52:45Just leave it over the night and you'll be able to wash the pot more easily.
00:52:51Or keep those small packages of ketchup we all end up having from fast food orders in the freezer.
00:52:57The ketchup won't be as hard as an ice cube as it freezes.
00:53:01So, it will be good for soothing insect bites or similar things.
00:53:06Okay, enough with ketchup already.
00:53:08I'm getting hungry.
00:53:09Your home has more regular things that can do magic tricks.
00:53:13Like, if you have a house or a big terrace and want to make a nice flower wall, try old
00:53:19mattress springs.
00:53:20Just hang them on the wall and let your imagination run wild with flowers.
00:53:26An old flower sifter can still come in handy.
00:53:29For example, as a planter.
00:53:31Even if you don't have one, you might find it at a garage sale or a thrift store.
00:53:37Wallpaper is making its big comeback when it comes to home design.
00:53:41Maybe you can try something different and use some old books with torn pages.
00:53:46You just need to learn the basics of hanging wallpaper.
00:53:50And voila!
00:53:51You get a new cool place for your old books.
00:53:55There's a solution for the remains of an old book.
00:53:58Don't worry.
00:53:59You can have blocks where you'll keep your kitchen knives.
00:54:02It's pretty original, don't you think?
00:54:05Cleaning blinds can be frustrating.
00:54:07But the next time you do it, try doing it with a sock over your hand.
00:54:12Hands are kind of perfectly shaped for getting all those nooks and crannies on the blinds.
00:54:17And the sock will do the rest.
00:54:21Here's something you wouldn't expect.
00:54:23Ice cubes can help you remove gum from carpet, clothing, and hair.
00:54:28Just put your clothes in the sink and add ice cubes.
00:54:32Leave it like that for a while.
00:54:34Ice will freeze the gum so you can chip it away more easily.
00:54:38If the gum got stuck on the carpet, leave ice cubes right in the critical spot and remove the gum
00:54:44with a butter knife.
00:54:46It's a little bit harder to remove it from hair though, but still possible.
00:54:51Just wrap the ice and parts of your hair with the gum in a washcloth until the gum gets frozen.
00:54:57When you get there, you should be able to break apart the gum and free your hair using your fingers.
00:55:04Or, next time you have to deal with a splinter, just take one ice cube to numb that area before
00:55:10you even start doing anything.
00:55:14Vacuuming can't suck all that dust out of your cushions, but a tennis racket can.
00:55:19It's a tool firm enough to beat the dust, but at the same time, it has holes where dust can
00:55:25go through.
00:55:27If you have some old CD spindles you don't use anymore, bring one of them back to life.
00:55:32This time, as a bagel tote.
00:55:35It doesn't take up a lot of space in your backpack.
00:55:38Plus, you can close it so your bagel doesn't fall apart.
00:55:42It doesn't look like that at first, but there's a lot you can do with a tennis ball too.
00:55:48For example, use it as a bottle opener for twist-off bottle caps or maybe sticky jar lids.
00:55:55Cut along the seam of a ball so you'll have a tool coated with rubber on the inside.
00:56:00It gives a great grip.
00:56:03And it doesn't stop here for tennis balls.
00:56:06You can cap your chair legs to protect your floor.
00:56:08You can leave some in a pool if you have one too.
00:56:12Pools quickly become very dirty if you're using them frequently.
00:56:16And tennis balls can absorb some of the oil coming from the people and the rest of the goop that
00:56:21floats on the surface.
00:56:23Another frustrating task is removing floor scuff marks.
00:56:27Yep, a tennis ball once again.
00:56:29Just place it on a stick.
00:56:31It works like an eraser.
00:56:33It can also be a great tool for massage.
00:56:35You can try with your back.
00:56:37Lie down on the ball on the floor and place the tennis ball on the spots where you feel the
00:56:42most pressure.
00:56:44Or maybe put it against the wall and massage stiff parts.
00:56:48Or something I need, a tennis ball as a holder where I can keep my reminders.
00:56:53Just cut a slit into its side and place your message inside.
00:56:57It can be a cool gift too.
00:56:59Or add a small metal or wooden piece so you have a key holder too.
00:57:04Bread tabs can be great for labeling cords and never getting lost down there with your power strip.
00:57:10Plastic bread tabs are sturdy and there's enough room on them to write what the cable is for and easily
00:57:17clip it around the end of a cord.
00:57:19Plus, they come in different colors so you'll easily recognize them and know which electrical device you can turn off.
00:57:27You don't have to immediately throw away an empty milk jug.
00:57:31Just take sharp scissors and cut off its top.
00:57:34Then, clean up the cut so you're sure there are no sharp edges.
00:57:37Now, you have a new scoop for potting soil, food for your dog, or whatever you need it for.
00:57:44A bobby pin is a great nail holder.
00:57:46You can easily get distracted and hammer a finger when working with tiny nails.
00:57:51So, it would be better to go with a common bobby pin to keep your fingers at a safe distance.
00:57:57If you don't have enough space for your cookbook while preparing a meal,
00:58:02take a pants hanger and attach your recipes there.
00:58:06Also, if you have a broken pants hanger, you don't need to throw it away.
00:58:10Or at least, not all the pieces.
00:58:13You can remove clips and use them for pasta or some other open packs in your kitchen.
00:58:19Don't throw away an empty ketchup bottle.
00:58:22You can use it for a pancake mix so it doesn't get too messy when you're preparing this delicious breakfast.
00:58:29It can get tricky to carry your stuff at the beach.
00:58:32So, take an old lotion bottle and clean it out so you can put your money, phone, and keys inside.
00:58:38Less chance someone will take any of this stuff even if they manage to take a peek inside your bag.
00:58:46Even when you listen to the instructions and create a strong password for any of your online accounts,
00:58:52you're still not entirely safe from hackers.
00:58:55They always come up with new ways to crack what you think might finally be a good and secure password.
00:59:02For example, there's a password manager tool that has taken a look at more than 60 million passwords from data
00:59:09breaches.
00:59:11It turns out the majority of people choose passwords that aren't that unique.
00:59:17I love you, Ferrari, and Password1234 are some of the most popular ones, together with Star Wars.
00:59:25For hackers, these are really not difficult to guess.
00:59:29Plus, they have special tools that help them with cracking passwords.
00:59:35For example, one takes a list of dictionary words and then uses them to find out passwords.
00:59:41With this tool, you can try millions of words in a pretty short time.
00:59:46It's able to do some sneaky things, too, such as replacing an E with 3 or an A with an
00:59:54at sign.
00:59:56This tool also noticed that there were a lot of people who believed they were unique and creative with their
01:00:02passwords
01:00:03because they used a tactic we call password walking.
01:00:07It's when your fingers walk across the keyboard, and you create a password using keys that are next to each
01:00:14other.
01:00:14For example, QWERTY or ASDFG.
01:00:19It may seem meaningless enough to be safe, but you're not the only one who's thought of it.
01:00:24And hackers know it.
01:00:26They can upload basically any number of different variations into some of their tools to test them out.
01:00:32So it's just a matter of time before they find out what your password is.
01:00:42Here's a big no-no.
01:00:44Using the same password for multiple websites.
01:00:47Hackers love when you do that, because once they figure out one password,
01:00:51they can use it to access all your other accounts, too.
01:00:55Let's say your base password is Porsche.
01:00:57Then you add a few numbers and symbols to the end to create a unique password for each site you
01:01:03use,
01:01:04like Porsche 3% 5% for Facebook or Porsche 5$7 carat for Twitter.
01:01:16Most of us use the same principle at some point.
01:01:19The thing is that hackers are not going for your bank account or WorkVPN first,
01:01:24even though one of the main goals is to get there.
01:01:28They'll use their special tools to try out lots and lots of different usernames and passwords
01:01:33on websites that might not have the best security,
01:01:37such as an online forum you often visit,
01:01:39or maybe an e-commerce site where you've had some shopping lately.
01:01:45All they have to do is try different variations of your base password,
01:01:49like Porsche 1 or Porsche 123,
01:01:53and sooner or later, they'll crack the code and gain access to all your accounts.
01:01:59And if they get lucky and guess your login info for one of those sites,
01:02:03they can then use that info to try and access more important sites.
01:02:10And we're not talking about some genius hackers here.
01:02:14They use simple tricks, like checking your social media profiles.
01:02:18If you've ever mentioned your dog's name or your kid's birth date on Facebook, for example,
01:02:24a hacker could use that info to guess your passwords.
01:02:27So, chappy123 is out.
01:02:32So what's the solution here?
01:02:34First, stop trying to come up with some unique passwords based on things in your life.
01:02:40Instead, use a password manager to generate strong, random passwords for all your accounts.
01:02:46And make sure those passwords are long and include a variety of characters,
01:02:51not just lowercase letters.
01:02:54Plus, it's much safer to create unique, random passwords for each site you use.
01:03:00That way, even if a hacker does manage to crack one of your passwords,
01:03:05they won't be able to access all your other accounts as well.
01:03:08And you won't have to remember all those crazy passwords yourself.
01:03:12The password manager will do it for you.
01:03:17Also, it's better to have a long password.
01:03:21The tools hackers use crack shorter passwords with lowercase letters way faster.
01:03:26If you add only one asterisk and one capital letter,
01:03:30it will change the processing time for, let's say,
01:03:33a password with eight characters from 2.4 days to 2.1 centuries.
01:03:41Here's another scam they use to get your password.
01:03:45Let's say you're playing a game of capture the flag,
01:03:48and the other team manages to break into your fort and steal your flag.
01:03:53They now know exactly where your fort is and how to get in.
01:03:58That's basically what hackers do in data breaches.
01:04:02They break into a company's fort, their database,
01:04:06and steal all the sensitive information they can find,
01:04:09like your passwords, credit card details, and even your social security number.
01:04:16Then, they sell this information to other bad guys on the dark net,
01:04:20who can use it to pretend to be you and steal your money or even your identity.
01:04:25Stay up to date on news of data breaches
01:04:28and change your passwords immediately if one of your accounts was affected.
01:04:32And if you receive an email about a data breach, don't respond to it.
01:04:37Instead, visit the company's website
01:04:39or call their official customer support number to verify the situation.
01:04:46Phishing is when these thieves send you fake emails
01:04:49that look like they're from important people or companies,
01:04:52like the president or your bank.
01:04:55They might even ask you to click on a link that takes you to a fake website
01:05:00that looks real, but it's actually a trap.
01:05:04If you fall for their tricks and give them your password or personal information,
01:05:09they can use it to sneak into your computer and steal more stuff.
01:05:13Yikes!
01:05:14Don't reply to strange messages or click on weird links.
01:05:18If you're not sure if an email is real or fake,
01:05:21do some detective work and contact the sender directly through their official website.
01:05:26And remember, never, ever give away your personal information to anyone,
01:05:30even if they claim to be your long-lost cousin or a famous celebrity.
01:05:37Have you ever gotten an email that says something like,
01:05:41Reset your password now, but you don't remember asking for it?
01:05:46Yep, hackers once again.
01:05:48They send you fake emails that look like they're from a website you use,
01:05:53like Facebook or Amazon.
01:05:55They'll say something like,
01:05:56Your account has been hacked.
01:05:58Reset your password now to be safe.
01:06:02But if you click on the link they provide,
01:06:05it'll take you to a fake website that looks real,
01:06:08and hackers will be able to see any information you put in there.
01:06:12So, if something in your email seems weird,
01:06:15it's probably a scam.
01:06:17Check for signs of fraud,
01:06:19like spelling mistakes or strange designs,
01:06:22and always make sure to check the sender's email address
01:06:25to see if it matches the website they're claiming to be from.
01:06:30If hackers manage to get your passwords,
01:06:33they can cause serious issues to your reputation,
01:06:36finances, and other things related to your online identity.
01:06:40That means access to your social media accounts,
01:06:43email,
01:06:44personal identifiable information,
01:06:46and more.
01:06:49Let's play detective and spot the signs of a hacked password.
01:06:53First,
01:06:54if your password suddenly stops working,
01:06:56it might mean a hacker has changed it.
01:06:59So, if you're locked out of your account for no reason,
01:07:02it's time to investigate.
01:07:06Next,
01:07:07if your computer starts acting slow and sluggish,
01:07:10it could be a sign that it's been infected with password-stealing malware.
01:07:15Another thing to watch out for
01:07:16is finding your personal information on the dark web.
01:07:20That's like the sketchy black market of the internet
01:07:23where hackers sell stolen data.
01:07:25If you see your info for sale there,
01:07:28it's time to take action.
01:07:32Have you ever heard of ransomware?
01:07:34It's a type of malware that locks you out of your own computer
01:07:37and demands money if you want to regain control.
01:07:41Yikes!
01:07:41In Costa Rica,
01:07:43hackers even attacked local authorities with this nasty stuff.
01:07:49Last but not least,
01:07:50if your friends or family start receiving strange messages from you online,
01:07:55it's a red flag that someone else might be using your accounts.
01:07:59So, if your BFF gets a message from you
01:08:02about buying a Nigerian prince's yacht,
01:08:05it's probably time to change your passwords.
