26 - Sx Etapa 13 Main Event 250 Hot
Transcript
00:00He's got to beat Davies, 250 East here in Tennessee, let's go, and Hammocken does get a good start.
00:08They tuck it in there, thanks Thrasher, here comes Daxton Benick, Benick with the whole shot.
00:14And that's the great thing about being able to sneak up the inside like that.
00:19Oh, and Thrasher comes up, power move, gets into the lead quick,
00:23Cole Davies sending it through the whoops right now with Hammocken right behind him.
00:27Yeah, Seth had a little scary one there, he got some spin drive on the whoops and kind of front
00:33go a little heavy,
00:34but we got Drew Adams in 30s from our farm as well, so great to see him back up there
00:39with his first race back since his injury.
00:40Yeah, that was a great save by Seth Pratt there, he wanted to get in there,
00:44but nonetheless he ends up getting passed by Cole Davies, but I love what I see from these guys.
00:48We saw a good, Drew Adams was riding earlier in that heat race, Nate Thrasher as well,
00:54see what these guys can do with an open track league.
00:56How about the Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna of Daxton Benick, the 58, right there.
01:01Last week in St. Louis, in the East-West Showdown, he had to go by in the last chance qualifier,
01:06he won that, then finished sixth, and elevated himself to third in the championship.
01:10This guy's having a stellar season, and he's keeping a watchful eye on Drew Adams.
01:15Well, you see him looking over his shoulder,
01:17and the reason that he's looking over his shoulder, he's protecting the inside,
01:21riding a little defensive to make sure the 35, but Drew Adams doesn't come up and try to make a
01:25pass
01:25up the inside, great pass by Cole Davies.
01:30Look at Seth Hammacher trying to do the same thing, you just have to assume, Jet,
01:34that he does not want the 37 to get away, and he's got to make every move that Cole does.
01:40Yeah, I think what you're going to see here is the difficult thing of Cole's going to make a move,
01:45Seth's going to make a move.
01:46Cole's going to make another move, Seth's going to make another move.
01:49And it's just going to be, they're going to be going through the pack right now
01:52until they get to the front.
01:53And once you get to the front, I think that it's going to be trying to go as hard as
01:57they can
01:57to get around each other.
01:58So I think we've got a great race on our hands right now, and I'm excited for it.
02:03Boy, in this spot, if you have somebody a little bit faster than you,
02:06which normally doesn't happen in your situation, if you're Seth,
02:10do you try to get around Cole and slow him down, or do you just try to follow him up?
02:13To me, I almost feel like I would want to stop his momentum, but if you're in this spot, what
02:18do you do?
02:19See, if, I mean, in this kind of situation,
02:23what I'm trying to do is while he's focused on the guy in front,
02:26I'm going to be trying to break his rhythm, like you said.
02:29I'm going to try and surprise him, get a front wheel in there,
02:33take his mind off of going forward, you know, and, oh, I've got to defend.
02:37So I think that's what I'd be focusing on.
02:39Cole Davies made quick work at Daxton Benick.
02:42His teammate, Landon Gordon, is in the mechanics area,
02:44and he works on his other teammate, Nate Trasher.
02:47Well, this is going to really test the spirit of Seth Hamaker right now
02:51because Cole Davies has made some clutch moves to get by,
02:55and you're going to keep your eye on the top of your screen right here.
02:57This is where Cole Davies is so explosive and so fast.
03:01Watch the time he'll make up in the whoops.
03:04Oh, all over him.
03:06Here we go, inside move.
03:08Check this out.
03:09Almost had a shot there at his teammate.
03:11Goes the inside line.
03:13This is where he got Daxton Benick.
03:15Not quite close enough.
03:17Yeah, you're kind of surprised that Nate's running up so hard,
03:20you know, considering where Cole is in the championship,
03:22but good for him.
03:23Like at this point, this is only helping Seth out.
03:27He has to try to get around Daxton Benick
03:29because I believe if Cole gets around his teammate,
03:31he might just ride off into the sunset.
03:34Nate Trasher's coming off his best result of the year.
03:36Hasn't been on the podium yet,
03:38but a fourth last weekend in St. Louis was crucial for him
03:41to get things back on track.
03:43Right here, going back to the last lap.
03:45Cole needs to be right on the rear tire of Thrasher
03:48if he wants to absolutely execute this pass
03:51going through the whoops.
03:54Meanwhile, watch in the background.
03:55Watch Hamaker.
03:56Here comes the Kawasaki rider.
03:57Here comes Davies.
03:59Almost out of shape.
04:00Again, Buckwild and then whoops right now.
04:02Both of them, Cole and Seth in the background.
04:06Yes, that went for it as well in the background,
04:08but, you know, I noticed Cole went a little bit farther
04:10inside of that last lap that he did
04:12and Daxton makes a nice pass up the inside of Nate Thrasher.
04:18That was a beautiful move from Daxton Benick.
04:23Meanwhile, let's talk more about Seth Hamaker, his wage.
04:26Yeah, well, this is fun as you watch him go through.
04:28That is his mom, Sally.
04:30She is not watching the race.
04:31She never does.
04:32She sets a clock on her phone for 13 minutes,
04:35paces nervously because she doesn't want to watch her son race,
04:38and then two minutes to go, she'll check to see
04:40if he's heading to the podium or not.
04:42This action is going on right now.
04:44One person doesn't know his mom.
04:47I think that helps with the stress a lot.
04:49I would do the same, but I can't.
04:51I have to watch.
04:53Tell you what, Wes.
04:54Sorry about that.
04:55His weight got forward in the whoops and the back end got light.
04:58That was a nice adjustment that Seth made.
05:00Oh, maybe here.
05:02He nails his inside.
05:03Got across.
05:04Yeah, good move.
05:05There you go, Seth.
05:06And Daxton was nice to him right there.
05:08He could have pushed him up a little bit and made no contact,
05:11but I feel like Daxton knows what's on the line right now.
05:14Now, these are very, very key laps for Seth right now
05:17because while Cole doesn't know he's in second right now,
05:20he's got to make up as much time as he possibly can
05:23before Cole looks back and goes, okay, Seth's right there.
05:26So I think he's really got to execute these laps nicely
05:30to try and gain as much time while maybe Cole's still relaxed.
05:37JT.
05:39Oh!
05:40Hammack is down!
05:43Seth Hammack has said a week ago he has to push it more.
05:46He has to go for it more.
05:48Did he push it too much at the wrong time?
05:50Trying to catch Cole Davies.
05:53That was such a simple little mistake right there,
05:58and I thought he had his save.
05:59That wasn't major.
06:01Here's a replay right here.
06:03So he comes out triple.
06:04Everything is good.
06:05Just gets off balance, and his momentum was going to the left.
06:09Oh, man.
06:11Didn't the bike tuck pummels him right there?
06:13See, he was off balance.
06:15Right, Jett?
06:15See, the tough block grabbed his foot just a little bit
06:19and to create that extra bit of momentum for his bike
06:21to keep going sideways.
06:23Bummer.
06:24Got off pretty lucky, I mean, to be able to get back up.
06:26But when he started that, he overjumped that triple
06:29and got his way too far forward.
06:30That's what pushed him off that balance.
06:32But, man, tough break.
06:34He said he was going to hang out.
06:35He's still in fourth place, so didn't lose too much.
06:38But, man, that's going to be costly as far as going after the win.
06:41And hopefully we can make it back and salvage the podium.
06:45That's all we've got to try and go for.
06:47And hopefully either he's just kind of hoping
06:50if maybe Cole makes a mistake in the upcoming rounds
06:53or something else.
06:55This is Devin Simonson up against Henry Miller.
06:58Simonson on the inside.
07:00Miller makes the inside switch there
07:02and through the sand section.
07:03This is a good scrap for fifth place.
07:07Yeah, I like that inside because we saw what Seth did.
07:10It seems like you can maybe hop out of that berm
07:13and just close the guys off
07:14even if they have the more momentum on the outside.
07:20Here comes Devin Simonson around the outside.
07:23And at the moment as we race,
07:25Simonson has the upper hand on his Club MX teammate Cody Schock.
07:28These two have been having an awesome season this year
07:30going back and forth.
07:32Yeah, they've been going back and forth, like you said,
07:34trade positions each weekend, Diff.
07:36But what a ride by Henry Miller right here.
07:40He was working on Simonson,
07:42was able to make the pass.
07:43Looking comfortable out there.
07:49Meanwhile, we're over the halfway mark.
07:51Quick reminder to stock up on Monster Energy drinks
07:53at Kroger.
07:57Sand sections right here, Jet.
07:59You like sand sections?
08:00I don't mind them.
08:01When they're in tight sections like that,
08:03they're not as fun, for sure.
08:05When they're in nice swimming turns,
08:06I find them a lot more fun,
08:08especially when they have some nice rollers
08:09that you can jump and time together.
08:11So I like the sand, especially in outdoors.
08:15Henry Miller in this fifth place
08:17aboard his MX6 Kawasaki.
08:19That's exactly where he got season best
08:22in Detroit a couple of races ago.
08:24So nice work, Henry.
08:27Sits behind,
08:28set hammocker ahead of Devin Simonson.
08:29Meanwhile, race leader Cole Davies
08:31has blown out to almost a six-second advantage.
08:35Yeah, dude is just rolling right here.
08:36And I feel like when you get into this position
08:38for a rider the caliber of Cole,
08:41this is just,
08:42I feel like he's just in maintenance,
08:44or maintaining mode.
08:46Will?
08:47Ricky, for all of you guys,
08:49just chatting with Cole Davies yesterday,
08:51asking about sort of how far he's come
08:53from round one for him to this point.
08:56Now, he was just describing
08:58how much of a kind of calmer rider he is,
09:01more controlled.
09:02He specifically talked about
09:03when he doesn't get the start.
09:05And it was a decent start,
09:06but we didn't see him out there with a whole shot
09:08and what he does.
09:09And he said he's just learned to go about
09:11being calm in those moments,
09:13working his way forward,
09:14not panicking,
09:15not kind of going,
09:16I've got to get to the front
09:16and over-pushing.
09:17And what we're seeing is a work from him.
09:19That's just exactly what we saw today.
09:21And he seems to be learning it very quickly.
09:23He said nobody told him that.
09:24He just figured it out.
09:25I just feel that we're seeing this rider
09:27really develop right in front of our eyes
09:28through the season.
09:29A lot of box there.
09:30You saw Hunter Lawrence riding towards
09:32the gate area
09:33to get ready for his main event.
09:35Look, New Zealand,
09:36for a small population,
09:38produces incredible sports men and women
09:41and sporting accomplishments.
09:43I can't remember if I said this last week or not,
09:45but you may have seen the news story
09:47where this young man,
09:49this teenage sensation Cole Davies,
09:51has captured the attention of fellow New Zealand sports people
09:54in the motorsports sphere.
09:56Six-time IndyCar champ Scott Dixon,
09:58NASCAR sensation Shane Van Gisbergen,
10:01Liam Lawson, Formula One driver.
10:03They've all reached out to this young man
10:05via social media
10:06to congratulate him
10:07and to spur him on and encourage him.
10:09That's pretty cool stuff.
10:10No, it really is.
10:11I mean, can you imagine seeing that
10:13through social media
10:14and getting the stars of other sports
10:16knowing that they're watching you,
10:17but everybody in the motorsports industry,
10:20whether you're on two or four-wheeled,
10:21we all appreciate it.
10:22Like, I'm sure Cole watches those guys.
10:24I know I do.
10:25So, man, really cool
10:26for those guys to reach out to him
10:28and wish some luck.
10:30This is going to be a very generous pickup
10:33and points for Cole Davies
10:35towards his quest
10:36for this 250 East Division Championship.
10:40Just four minutes and one,
10:42four and a half minutes
10:42and one lap remaining here.
10:44Picking his way through these lappers,
10:46doing a fantastic job doing that, JT.
10:50He looks incredible, Ricky.
10:52And what I really enjoy about his racing
10:54is just the maturity that he shows
10:57because, yes, riders take risks
10:59which we've heard
11:00and seen Seth Panmaker
11:02kind of have the negative side of that.
11:04But also, Cole took some risks
11:05when he made that pass in the whoops.
11:07He was a little bit out of shape
11:08to make the pass on Thrasher,
11:10but he knew when and where
11:11to apply that risk.
11:13And the rest of the race,
11:14he's been so tremendously patient.
11:16And such a big part of this
11:18is knowing when to push.
11:19And if I have to say it,
11:20a lot of this reminds me
11:21of a young Jett Lawrence,
11:22the patience
11:23and then an intensity when needed.
11:25Yeah, it does.
11:26And another thing
11:27that I was really impressed with
11:29last year with Cole Davies
11:30in his rookie season
11:31is when he was getting heat
11:33in these races,
11:34he was really good
11:35at just riding his race.
11:37He didn't get caught in the moment.
11:38Override the motorcycle
11:40if he was being pressured.
11:41And to have that amount
11:42of self-discipline
11:44is very tough.
11:45As you know, Jett and James,
11:47hard to do that at a young age.
11:49No, it's, I think,
11:50one of the hardest things.
11:51As a young kid,
11:52you have all the energy
11:53in the world
11:53and all you want to do
11:54is win.
11:56I know when I was young
11:57and I still am,
11:59you're so competitive
12:00and all you want to do
12:00is win.
12:01So I think it's a great thing
12:02to have knowing
12:03when you need to step it up
12:04and when you need to,
12:06you know, back it down.
12:07Like you said,
12:07in this one,
12:08he had that little burst
12:09of energy in the whoops
12:11to make a pass.
12:12And now, honestly,
12:13you just see him flowing.
12:14You don't see any extra energy
12:15that he's putting in.
12:16You don't see any extra thing
12:17he's trying to pull out.
12:18Just hitting his marks
12:20and doing it.
12:20And now you see here,
12:21we're just talking about that.
12:23See if Seth could maybe catch up
12:25to make a salvage podium.
12:26And he's doing that right now.
12:27Even second place
12:28is right there, Dak.
12:30So he's going to get
12:31some fun racing really soon.
12:33Yeah, Seth has done
12:33a great job at catching these guys.
12:35He's about seven seconds behind him.
12:37So he's doing everything.
12:38He understands
12:39if he can't beat Cole,
12:40he needs to finish behind him.
12:41So great recovery from here.
12:43Right now,
12:44I think it's a great opportunity.
12:45Maybe some of these guys
12:46get caught up in these lappers,
12:47but Seth's got to try
12:48to make that second place.
12:50Daxton Benick
12:51isn't that far off the track either.
12:52So Thrasher is the first one
12:54on Seth Hamaker's list.
12:55Then Daxton Benick,
12:56who is having the best season
12:58of his career.
13:00If he can finish second,
13:01here we go.
13:01Hamaker gets Thrasher.
13:03So he's up to third.
13:05Yeah, I was just about
13:05to call that out.
13:06It felt like Seth needed
13:08to make that pass
13:09while Nate was more
13:10concentrating on that lapper.
13:11He might be able
13:12to sneak up the inside.
13:14Great move by him
13:15in third place
13:15and see if we can get
13:16another one.
13:16Yeah, he used Jeremy Hand
13:18there as a pick
13:19to get by.
13:20I don't think that Nate
13:21was anticipating that.
13:24I think right now
13:26these combinations
13:27in the whoops
13:28this is the worst time.
13:30You have absolutely
13:32cupped out beat whoops
13:33with dry sling
13:35and these edges
13:36if people were down
13:37that scene
13:38they are like
13:38concrete curves.
13:40So as soon as that thing
13:41gets kicked sideways
13:42it is so hard
13:43to try and get that
13:44back tamed.
13:45Like as you've seen
13:46then before
13:47with Seth's run
13:48through there.
13:48So it's hairy
13:49you're kind of deciding
13:51like oh do I jump
13:52but they're not broken
13:53down as much
13:54as like an east coast
13:55with like last weekend
13:56they broke down massively
13:57you can kind of jump them
13:58so he's in a hairy
14:00kind of situation
14:01of either jumping
14:03or skimming
14:03but he's still going
14:04with skimming
14:04because he's trying
14:05to make up passes
14:06right now.
14:06You're listening
14:07to the voice
14:07of three time
14:08and reigning
14:09SMX 450 world champion
14:11Jet Lawrence
14:12as we watch
14:13the 10 of Seth Hamaker
14:14close in
14:15on Daxton Benick.
14:16This is for second
14:17with less than a minute
14:18plus a lap to go
14:19in this 250 East Division
14:21main event
14:22here in Nashville.
14:23Be interesting to see
14:24how much of a fight
14:25Daxton Benick
14:26puts up right here
14:27because the 10 of Seth Hamaker
14:29has made up
14:29an immense amount of time
14:32and he is all over him.
14:34The one thing Seth Hamaker
14:36has shown us time
14:36and again James
14:37as he works on Benick
14:38here is he can have
14:40an incident
14:40and he rebounds
14:42and recovers so well.
14:43They both go down.
14:45Benick and Hamaker
14:46are down.
14:48Oh man.
14:49Treasure goes through
14:49to grab second place.
14:52Oh my goodness.
14:55What a heartbreak
14:56for Benick.
14:57Oh he was doing
14:58and the 10.
15:00That's such a bummer.
15:01He was putting in
15:01such a great right too.
15:03That's such a bummer.
15:04Yeah.
15:05Racing incident.
15:06Daxson lost the rear end
15:08and then Seth had
15:09that momentum
15:09but because Seth
15:11almost jumped off
15:12the racetrack
15:13it actually threw him wide
15:14so he was able
15:15to square that corner up
15:16and it was too
15:17collided.
15:18One more lap to go
15:19for Cole Davies.
15:20He has no idea
15:21of the mayhem
15:23that has just unfolded
15:24behind him.
15:26Final lap
15:26and this is going
15:28to be massive
15:29for a guy like
15:30Devin Simonson
15:33showing him still
15:35fifth right here.
15:36That'll be a career
15:37best for Devin Simonson.
15:39Davies is en route
15:40to his fourth victory
15:42of the year.
15:44What a ride by this guy.
15:46This guy don't even know
15:47the carnage
15:47that's going on behind him.
15:49It's like,
15:49oh that was a pretty
15:50nice car for race.
15:51Oh.
15:53And this is what
15:54he does best.
15:55Stays in control.
15:57Manages everything.

16:01Gives himself
16:01a little confirmation
16:03nod there.
16:06And in similar fashion
16:08to his teammate
16:08Hayden Deegan
16:09last weekend.
16:10It's going to be
16:10a 15 plus second win.
16:12Look at this.
16:13Notting his head.
16:14Cole Davies
16:15has done it again.
16:16And increases
16:17his championship lead
16:19in the 250
16:20East Division.
16:22Oh, here we go.
16:24Simonson
16:24getting by Benick.
16:25Benick looks over
16:27serve.
16:27There's Miller too.
16:29Henry Miller wants a shot.
16:29Oh, he better know
16:30these next few sets
16:31he might drop two positions.
16:32Daxton Benick's
16:33got to try and regroup
16:35and recover here.
16:37But he's still shell-shocked
16:38from that knock

16:56That's a bummer.
16:57There's the man
16:58at the moment.
16:58He says,
16:59let's go.
17:00Well, you did go
17:01all the way
17:01to another win,
17:02Cole Davies.
17:04Yeah, that was
17:05a great ride.
17:06Got to give a shout out
17:06to Sepp.
17:07He was able to get back up
17:08twice after two big hits
17:10and still finish up
17:11on the podium.
17:12I think that's what
17:13it's hard to teach kids
17:15nowadays
17:16and I don't think
17:17it's very hard to teach
17:18just in general.
17:19The hard work
