00:01At Monday's premiere of the new Michael Jackson biopic, Jafar Jackson, Michael's nephew and the son of Jermaine, described how
00:10he prepared for the role.
00:12It really came with dissecting a lot of the videos and also getting as much insight into how Michael felt
00:21after each performance,
00:22which was hard to get because none of that is online, but I knew he wasn't satisfied with the Motown
00:29performance, specifically the spin to the toes and also the moonwalk,
00:34but that gave me the liberty to not try and do it perfectly for the Motown 25 and allow myself
00:43to progress as the eras went on and changed.
00:46Coleman Domingo played Jackson's notoriously demanding father, Joe.
00:52Nia Long appears as his mother, Catherine, forced to balance her faith with her family's fame.
01:00You know, I think that's what women do, that divine feminine energy can accomplish anything.
01:06When we're in tune with that energy, when we can creatively visualize what we want for our family,
01:13for our lovers, for our friends, for the people that matter the most to us, we can actually, we are
01:19capable of doing all things.
01:21And when I think of Catherine Jackson, I think of a woman who was very deliberate about her choices.
01:25She was a God-fearing woman, is a God-fearing woman.
01:28She is dedicated to her family.
01:32She was a wife.
01:33She was a mother.
01:33She was a woman of service.
01:35She is grace, and grace is what creates greatness.
01:38You're beautiful.
01:40You're the greatest of all time.
01:45Let me tell you something.
01:47For Michael's siblings, seeing their early life recreated on screen was an emotional experience.
01:53It was touching, and yes, of course, I cried.
01:56However, Coleman did a fabulous job as my father, and I'm very proud of that as well.
02:01A lot of people think that my father made us.
02:03No, we loved to entertain.
02:05That's what we wanted to do in life, as little kids, entertain.
02:09You could change the world.
02:13Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael opens in theatres from April 22nd.
