03:17So, yeah, I think you can expect a wide range of responses.
03:26I think the colors are very bold.
03:30I mean, obviously the sets are incredible.
03:32This is exactly what I had imagined.
03:34I mean, I've been saying that to Johnny as we've been working.
03:37You know, the desk where we work, wow, this is exactly how I imagined.
03:40And this unit, this looks like exactly where I would store my stuff when I lived in my hometown.
03:49So, yeah, they've done a fantastic job with just the whole look and the feel of the movie.
03:57When you have real things in camera lit on the day, I think it makes a huge difference with just
04:04the believability.
04:05A lot of my questions was how are you going to do all these effects and all these different things?
04:10And I was so impressed with them, all the practical elements they proposed.
04:13And then now, as we've been shooting, all the practical elements that I've seen.
04:17I know Mr. Scroggins, the cat is a practical element, and that's amazing.
04:22The deer is practical.
04:24That's amazing.
04:24Some of these effects on people's bodies.
04:27And when you blur that line, that's when the audience can kind of lock in a little bit more
04:35and kind of forget that they're at a movie theater and just kind of be absorbed in the story.
04:41He has an understanding of the character, and I have this understanding of the character.
04:48And it's been really amazing to collaborate on how we see things for Tea Cake.
04:56And sometimes that doesn't always happen with the project, you know.
05:01It's kind of maybe you feel like you're a little bit on an island or you're kind of just doing
05:04your own thing.
05:05But I feel like this is a real collaboration between the two of us.
05:09And also, he's just used to handle so many different elements, and he's been doing it so seamlessly.
05:14And that's really cool to watch.
05:18David's just, I mean, you look at all of his stuff that he's done, and it's unbelievable and amazing.
05:24And on this job, we've been, you know, getting to know each other.
05:27And the script is really just great.
05:29He's a great writer.
05:29And it's something, obviously, that comes very naturally to him.
05:34And he's really interested in the collaboration process.
05:41Obviously, it's based upon the novel that he wrote.
05:45And I imagine that he feels very close and connected to these characters and feels a sense of ownership.
05:49So it's also really amazing how open he is to my input and the collaboration and kind of what happens
05:58when you're working on something like this is the handoff, sort of, from the writer to the actor who's playing
06:04it, who kind of takes it in and it becomes something different.
06:07So, you know, it's been a pleasure to work with him.
06:11And, yeah, amazing.
06:14That's one of the highlights for me.
06:19It's a really, really great cast, filled with people that you know, people that have been in millions of other
06:23things.
06:24And the first day that Leslie came on set, she was like, oh, okay, you guys must play T.K.
06:28Gennelman.
06:29Well, you guys are carrying the whole movie, but you have the best cast around you, she said, which is
06:34very funny.
06:34But it's true.
06:35I mean, everybody has been fantastic so far, and we've kind of started working on all these ensemble bits.
06:42So it's been great to, you know, get to know each other.
06:47At the core of the story, you have these characters, but it's surrounded by these really fantastic set pieces and
06:53all these really great effects and great action and comedy.
06:56But at its heart, it is really like a story about these two people kind of coming together and getting
07:02to know each other.
07:02We'll be right back.
