Transkript
00:03The stage is set, every prop, every script, every actor is in position, there is just one more role to
00:14take, your position, as the puppeteer.
00:19Then through your puppets' words and their ledgers, you control the flow of coin, through their creatures gain the ability
00:27to lead men by the heart, and there will be those who want to cut your puppets free.
00:38However, as long as one puppet stands and its strings uncut, the authority of the story is still with you,
00:48and this, my friend, is your chapter.
00:58Greetings, everyone! I am Alexander Altner, the game director for Crusader Kings 3.
01:04A new year of content is upon us, and it's my privilege to be here once again to present you
01:10with the upcoming chapter of Crusader Kings 3.
01:13Chapter 5
01:18Last year, with Chapter 4, we traveled to Asia, unlocking a big part of the map for you, our players.
01:24We realize, of course, that living up to that big undertaking will be tricky, so we are working hard to
01:30make sure that Chapter 5 lives up to your expectations.
01:33Whilst we widened the scope of the world last year, this year we're looking at the depth of the gameplay
01:39itself.
01:40This includes taking a closer look at the gameplay mechanics and player fantasies surrounding religion.
01:46We're introducing rites within faiths and a hierarchy of church, especially within Christianity.
01:53We will add republics and merchants with the ability to trade goods across the map and leave a lasting impact
02:00on the lands they engage with.
02:02Truly hoping to make trade an interesting and rewarding gameplay experience.
02:06And as a little bonus, we have completely new content unlocking today.
02:12We will tell you more about that in just a moment.
02:15Now, without further ado, I will hand over the word to Mikael Andersson, who will tell you more about our
02:22upcoming core expansion, By God Alone.
02:27Hi, I'm Mikael. I'm the lead designer for Crusader Kings 3's newest core expansion, By God Alone.
02:34Christianity's role in medieval Europe was not merely that of a belief system that people adhered to or didn't.
02:41It determined the moral and just life of everyone, from rulers to peasants.
02:48Our goal is to enhance the experience of playing as a Christian ruler, to really show the importance of the
02:56church's role in the average ruler's life.
02:58In this core expansion, we're fleshing out the Christian church, to make the institution itself feel like a living entity.
03:05We're revising the way the church collects taxes, to make it more obvious how taxation from temple holdings are being
03:12collected, and allow the player to direct it to some extent.
03:16During the time span of Crusader Kings 3, the Christian faith went through a lot of upheaval.
03:20To represent this, we're introducing rites, local variations of practice that the player can interact with.
03:27Rites have their own religious heads, which could be, for example, an archbishop or a heresiarch.
03:32Rites can practice a version of Christianity that is close to the Roman rite, or relatively far from it.
03:39This divergence within practices will affect the central authority of the church, but it also impacts how far and wide
03:46Christianity can spread.
03:48As an example, the Mozarabic and Insular faiths are now going to be modeled as rites within the Chalcedonian faith.
03:56New rites can be created as the game goes on, and can be changed over time.
04:01In By God Alone, in the 867 start date, Christianity starts as a unified Chalcedonian Christianity.
04:08Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa are split up into archdioceses, each with their own archbishops or patriarchs.
04:15A Christian church situation is tracking the current state of affairs within the church.
04:21The situation tells the story of the evolving Christian church during the course of the game.
04:25Of course, in an unpredictable way that the player does have agency over.
04:29For example, via participation in ecumenical councils.
04:32Different faces within the situation can have different effects on the power balance between Christian rulers and the church.
04:39With the focus on Christianity and By God Alone, we're of course taking the opportunity to also deepen the experience
04:46and the detail of the Christian faith.
04:48One of the ways we're doing this is to give holy orders their own rites, so they also can have
04:53their own way of practicing Christianity that's unique to them.
04:56We're also adding a new type of non-martial holy order, the monastic holy order.
05:01Monastic holy orders can be founded by the player, can be used to push their theological agenda, or can be
05:06used as a counterbalance to the forces in Rome.
05:09With By God Alone, we want to improve the representation of the autonomous church to increase the strategic depth of
05:15playing as a Christian ruler in Europe.
05:17Of course, the player needs a way to have influence in the church.
05:20One of the ways in which we're doing this is with the introduction of theocratic puppets.
05:25Your puppet is your man on the inside.
05:28And By God Alone, if you puppet your court chaplain, that'll give you an unprecedented degree of influence over the
05:36church's actions and directions.
05:38For the first time in the Crusader Kings franchise, we're also introducing playable theocracies, allowing you to rise to the
05:45power of the Pope himself.
05:47By God Alone extends your options of how to engage with your Christian faith and the church behind it.
05:54It gives you more strategic options for how to deal with this institution, as well as dealing with other rulers
05:59of the same faith as you.
06:01It tells the story of a dynamic, evolving Christian faith, letting you immerse yourself further into the life of a
06:07Christian ruler.
06:08We've been hard at work on this core expansion, and we can't wait to see what you think of By
06:13God Alone when it releases later this year.
06:15All right, back to being hard at work. Thank you, guys.
06:23The core expansion By God Alone will be released in September, and we are very excited to see what you
06:30think of it.
06:33You may have heard it before, that real strategy requires cunning, no matter how the pawns are moved across the
06:42board.
06:43No matter how much conflict you are prepared for, there is another thing that keeps the world moving.
06:49In our next major expansion, Silk & Silver, we will be taking a closer look at trade.
06:59Hello, I'm Joachim Holmsten, one of the game designers on CK3, and I have the honor of giving you this
07:04little preview of Silk & Silver, our next major expansion for CK3.
07:09So for Silk & Silver, we are focusing on trade, republics, and merchants, with a couple of side notes of
07:15free reworks like buildings and economy.
07:18We're inspired by the Egyptian traders traveling eastwards, the Silk Road merchants, the merchants coming down from Novgorod with fur,
07:24as well as the republics of Venice, Genoa, Florence, the Swiss ones, or the free cities of the HRE.
07:30As we're introducing trade to the medieval world of CK3, of course, there's a lot of things that we have
07:35to take into consideration.
07:36So for Silk & Silver, we are adding a new trade system that are based around needs and productions that
07:41are set up in every single count in the world,
07:44together with a whole plethora of new trade goods like salt, silver, gold, copper, and these are traded primarily by
07:51our new mercantile governments,
07:52so republics and merchants, but also some minor opportunities for landed rulers to participate in the new trade system.
07:59Trade routes are set up between different points by the new mercantile governments to remove trade goods from point A
08:04to point B,
08:05to make as much money as possible, finding areas that produced a lot of trade goods and then selling them
08:09in areas that acquired them.
08:11And the trade routes can be adjusted or edited or cancelled outright if need be, and it's really up to
08:16the player how they want to engage with them.
08:18And these trade routes can be adjusted by the AI as well to the player, and we will have dozens
08:24if not hundreds of AI players taking part in the new trade system,
08:28making the world feel like it's a sprawling living entity.
08:31So as we're adding this new trade system, it was of course important that we find the space for it
08:35both live and thrive,
08:37not only done by our new mercantile governments, but also find space for our old rulers to take part in
08:42it.
08:42They have some limited opportunities, but they will be able to then engage with the new mercantile governments, who will
08:48do some of it for them.
08:49And it will play an important role into our new building rework.
08:52So to start talking a bit about our new mercantile governments, I think I will start with the merchants,
08:57which is basically landless rulers that exist across the realm.
09:02Unlike their landless adventure counterparts, they are usually settled around cities where they have their domiciles and where they do
09:09most of their trade.
09:10So as a merchant you will engage with landed rulers, you take part in trade across the realm, you will
09:16go out and seek out contracts to establish trade opportunities with different rulers,
09:22and you have your family that you will constantly have to make sure are living up to their part of
09:28the trade company.
09:28So each merchant is based around their family companies, and to make sure that it feels like a proper company,
09:34we are making sure that each member does their part,
09:37and we have readapted and improved the house unity system from Legacy of Persia.
09:42So the way that the house unity works for merchants is that you can either appeal to your family members,
09:48maybe not necessarily get as much bonuses and money as you would hope for, but a happy company,
09:53or you can go down the capitalistic route and make sure that the company prospers, but the people who take
09:58part in it might not.
09:59This will add a little bit of political drama, even internally, in the family.
10:03So to talk a little bit about our second mercantile government, we have the republics, inspired by Venice or Florence
10:09or Genoa.
10:10They are situated around a main city where everything happens, and you either play as a partition family,
10:15or you can be the head of the republic and make all the decisions.
10:18For republics, of course, they need their money to make sure that they can get their family up in power.
10:24So they use trade to make as much money as possible, and then they turn it into political capita
10:30by making sure that their opponents end up in the gutter, and they end up in charge of the republic,
10:36because they really do care for that democracy.
10:39The republics will work kind of like a soft power in the world.
10:41They're a little bit of a king makers or king removers.
10:44They are the ones that ensure that the trade routes are open, the goods are flowing as they're intended to.
10:49If you don't actually do as they want, well, then you are on the list to be removed.
10:54And as the game keeps running, we will see these little republics form up to form larger trade leagues,
10:59and they can truly become a power to be reckoned with, just like the Huns that were in real life,
11:04controlling most of the Baltic Sea.
11:06So our new core is, rather than having buildings in your counties, you now have districts with buildings within them.
11:11Rather than building a building, like say a brewery, you're now building a market district,
11:15where you might build buildings within it, but it's supposed to give this greater flavor,
11:20that you feel like you're actually building up a city.
11:22As part of this new district system, we're also introducing what we call the resource districts.
11:27This is basically how we produce trade goods across the world.
11:30Every single county in the world will have a potential of a couple of different trade goods that you can
11:34then choose from.
11:34And you will build it up, and for example, you will have cotton, or wool, or grain,
11:40and then later on you can either improve that, or you can choose to even take part in some of
11:44the other potentials that you tossed away earlier.
11:46So you can say, hey, I wanted wool, and now I can say that I can get a little small
11:50building of cotton as well,
11:51producing several trade goods at the same time.
11:53Every single county in the world will have between three and five potentials that you can choose from.
11:58So while we have focused a lot on the systemic side for the whole world and silk and silver,
12:02we also have focused a little bit on flavor content specifically for Italy.
12:07It is the home of many other republics like Venice or Genoa,
12:10so it felt only right that we would give them a little bit of time in the spotlight.
12:14So as part of our work on Italy, we have improved historicity in all three start dates,
12:18in addition to adding a whole slew of new counties.
12:21These new counties are a bit smaller than they usually are,
12:24which will focus more on the kind of republic play that we're interested in.
12:27It will also enable us to have more interesting conflicts as we're adding a new situation to the region,
12:32the Guelphs and the Ghibellins.
12:34The Guelphs and the Ghibellins are a fairly well-known conflict that was between the Kaiser and the Pope
12:38that happened in mostly northern Italy.
12:41It is an opportunity for us to both showcase conflicts between republics and inside republics,
12:47as the different factions will vie for power.
12:49But this overview has just been a small little glimpse into what we're going to be seeing in Silk and
12:53Silver,
12:53and you can look forward to more details in the dev diaries leading up to the release of the major
12:58expansion later this year.
12:59This thing was a mistake. It is, like, silly expensive.
13:03But the real regret I had from going to Venice was not buying more of them.
13:09Silk and Silver will unlock to all Chapter 5 holders in November.
13:15Now I think you've waited long enough to hear about what Chapter 5 will unlock for you today.
13:22Today you will get instant access to our new cosmetic pack, Symbols of Authority.
13:28These splendid cosmetics will only be available to our Chapter 5 holders, so don't miss out.
13:35To inspire your medieval conquest, Songs of the Realm is bringing you a new enticing arrangement of Crusader Kings classics,
13:42plus a more modern take on traditional Nordic music.
13:48My name is Philip Werborn. I'm the composer and the producer for the new music pack called Songs of the
13:55Realm.
13:55Songs of the Realm is a homage for Evergreen songs that have been released over the years,
14:01but also a compilation of some new music that I've been honored to compose,
14:05as well as featuring some Swedish folk music.
14:09The initial brief was pretty clear. We wanted to record old Evergreens live with real musicians.
14:16I think in the time we're in, I think it's very important that we highlight that this project is really
14:22based around musicians.
14:23We had a really good day in the studio and I'm really happy that Paradox took the opportunity to give
14:29me the opportunity
14:30to hire real people playing all this music.
14:47We also wanted to write some new music in the CK3 vein. The idea to honor some of the Swedish
14:55folk music tradition was also pretty clear from the beginning,
14:58which I thought was really fun to work with.
15:00For me, working on Swedish folk music is always one of the most fun things you can do.
15:06It's based on beautiful melodies, easy harmonic structures, repetitiveness, but also a lot of fiddle, a lot of guitar, a
15:17lot of flute.
15:18And I think as a reference for CK3 and what's been released in the past, I think it really glues
15:24together in a music pack like this.
15:37I think I want to give credit to my partner in crime and dear friend Andreas Valdetoft and his track
15:44Intaberna.
15:45I think it kind of sums everything up that needs to be said in a release like this.
15:51So Intaberna is just the perfect track.
16:07For me, I think personally the highlight of this project was that this was the first project that my newborn
16:12son was a little part of in terms of like listening in the control room.
16:16And if you really listen closely, you might hear him on one of the tracks.
16:20I hope you all will enjoy the Songs of the Realm music pack.
16:24I had a lot of fun working on it and I really hope that you all feel the joy that
16:28we had creating this.
16:34All of this is coming out with Chapter 5, which is available right now.
16:38But that's not really all. Today we're also releasing a major update for everyone.
16:44For this update we want to rework accolades. We want to remove the tedium of having to assign and maintain
16:53these accolades and instead replace it with a fun challenge where you unlock various attributes and they themselves train their
17:02own squires.
17:03Since the beginning of the game we've had story cycles, but these have been invisible to the players.
17:11For example, being a great conqueror or having a doppelganger in your court.
17:15Now you will be able to see these in the situations tab with all the information you might need. Right
17:22there.
17:22We're adding in collaboration with Agami, a prominent modder, a fully fledged ledger to Crusader Kings 3.
17:32In it all the data you can dream of. Right there, sortable and parsable.
17:37For the longest time aging in Crusader Kings 3 has either been an experience where you instantly become decrepit or
17:45you can live forever with great skills.
17:47We wanted to make this more challenging and realistic by adding a diverse set of traits you can gain when
17:54you grow old.
17:55These traits will start off not that bad, but depending on actions you take in the game, you can mitigate
18:02their progress.
18:03Because it says whatever else we have confirmed by the time of recording. I'm like, there's probably a few.
18:15There are many great medieval games out there that aren't Crusader Kings 3 and one of them is Kingdom Come
18:21Deliverance.
18:22We have talked to their developers and they have talked to us and we adore each other's games.
18:28So we are collaborating and adding a few little Easter eggs for you to find in this update.
18:35Thank you everyone for joining us today and for your continued support and enjoyment of Crusader Kings 3.
18:42We are, I am, humbled by the passion and engagement you've shown us.
18:47And we can't wait to see how you choose to explore everything we are creating for Chapter 5.
19:06Is it Chalcedonian?
19:07That's what I thought, but I could be wrong.
19:09Too much I thought so.
19:10God!
19:13It might actually be Chalcedonian.
19:15That's what we said.
19:17We did say Chalcedonian?
19:18Yeah, but is it Chalcedonian?
19:19I thought it was Chalcedonian.
19:20I thought it was Chalcedonian.
19:24I don't need to B-roll.
19:28Because I've been saying Chalcedonian, then you said Chalcedonian, and then I said Chalcedonian, and then it felt weird.
19:33I had opportunities here, I just chose not to take them.
19:37And that's a mistake I will live with for the rest of my life.
19:39You can always go back to Venice.
19:42We're good, it's just I need to change everything about my entire personality now.
19:47I have to say, this is probably the most comfortable recording session I've ever had.
19:52Great chair, the light is not in my face.
19:55Good.
19:55It's Chalcedonian.
19:57Really?
19:59No.
19:59No?
20:00Not in my face.
20:03No?
20:05You don't get饉es or I wasullahs and I didn't clean every day.
20:07Wow.
20:07A moving sound?
20:07Hahahaha
