00:11I can tell you the suspect in this case, Shamar Ed Elkins, has been identified.
00:17He is the father of seven of the children that were killed in this house.
00:21There is an eighth child that was also killed, as well as the two females that were involved.
00:26Both of them had gunshot wounds.
00:30One of them is still in life-threatening condition.
00:33The other is in serious condition but is expected to recover.
00:35One of the women who was shot is a parent of the seven children.
00:39After the shootings, Elkins carjacked a vehicle and fled.
00:42Police chased him into the neighboring Bolger Parish, where they shot and killed him.
00:46Louisiana State Police are investigating the shooting of the suspect.
00:50Reuters was unable to immediately determine whether Elkins had a history of domestic violence.
00:54Police said they are working to determine the motive.
00:57Shreveport Mayor Tom Arsenault visited the crime scene and said it was a terrible event to occur.
