00:00My focus has been on changing the direction of L.A. by reversing long-standing trends on homelessness, housing, public
00:09safety, and infrastructure.
00:11For too long, City Hall watched as more Angelenos fell into homelessness, L.A. underbuilt housing, our police department shrank,
00:22and our infrastructure crumbled.
00:24But we have changed that. Today, as many of you know, street homelessness is down almost 18% in the
00:32city of Los Angeles, while it increased 18% in the nation.
00:38We're building more housing, accelerating 42,000 units through my executive directive.
00:46And in addition, about 6,000 of those 42,000 are actively under construction now.
00:52After years and years, we are finally now hiring more officers, and homicides are at a 60-year low, because
01:03we are also preventing crime, as well as holding people accountable.
01:07And we just announced our plan for 60,000 streetlights to wipe out the backlog and more.
01:16That is what the budget I'm releasing today is organized around, continuing to change L.A. and move it forward,
01:25because I will absolutely not go back to the broken systems of the past.
