Transcript
00:07hey everybody it's james and it's friday october the 21st and um i have a story for you when i
00:15was young we moved around a lot and i was always starting over in new social situations making
00:20new friends and um it's tough to find your way uh in a new social situation especially when
00:28different people have different expectations of you and i don't know if any of you can relate but
00:32this is a book that made me think about all that this is called ogilvy and it's written by deborah
00:36underwood and illustrated by tl mcfeff ogilvy happily hopped up and down the very first day in a very
00:50new town
00:54i'll zip to the park that i found down the street where they play there who might i meet
01:06bunnies were drawing and knitting and climbing a ball game was starting what wonderful timing
01:12a great big grin spread across ogilvy's face i love all those things what a marvelous place
01:25ogilvy entered but why all the staring a bunny bounced over what is that you're wearing
01:32ogilvy paused and looked down at his clothes say i'm wearing the thing that i wear i suppose
01:43but is it a sweater or is it a dress it matters s ogilvy goodness oh yes for bunnies and
01:51dresses
01:51play ball and knit socks and bunnies and sweater sweaters make art and climb rocks
01:59ogilvy boggled it excuse me but why well that's just how it is was the bunny's reply
02:09if this is a sweater i can't throw a ball no said the bunny that would not do it all
02:16the ball was what ogilvy wanted to play then i guess it's a dress at least for today
02:28outfielder ogilvy hit a home run and waved to new friends when the ball game was done
02:38the next morning ogilvy wanted to draw and he sat in the park with a pen in his palm
02:45but bunnies and dresses don't draw you know better so ogilvy answered then no this is a sweater
03:00the next morning ogilvy wanted to knit i'll say this is a dress so they won't have a fit
03:06the next morning ogilvy wanted to climb so announced from the rocks it's a sweater this time
03:16what shall i play each day ogilvy chose then decided which name would be best for his clothes
03:23but some bunnies fuged each time ogilvy swapped they grumbled this ogilvy he's gotta be stopped
03:37so one day as ogilvy drew on the ground a big bunch of bunnies all gathered around look here said
03:43a
03:43bunny your garments keep changing
03:49we cannot have bunnies who keep rearranging so it could be either but please make the call
03:54a sweater a dress tell us once and for all
04:00now ogilvy just like so many of us was not fond of making a ruckus or fuss
04:06but frustrated ogilvy made a hard choice and took a big breath and found a big voice
04:18i like to do all these things why must i hide this i just do not see why i have
04:24to decide this
04:26don't some of you sweater buns want to knit socks don't some of you dress wearers yearn to climb rocks
04:37why are you all so absurdly obsessed why do you care how much we are dressed i'm tired of all
04:43the
04:44questions and staring i'm wearing an ogilvy that's what i'm wearing
04:54well the bunnies fell silent then halted the fight could it be ogilvy bunny was right
05:01it really is silly for clothes to divide us let's all do the things that were till now denied us
05:12so bunnies and sweaters played any old game and bunnies and dresses precisely the same
05:17the things they were wearing caused no interference and even some ogilvy's made an appearance
05:29and one day a new bunny bounced by the brook the bunnies all crowded around for a look
05:36at the curious thing on the new bunny's head the bunnies all paused and then
05:50welcome welcome they said
05:58the end that's ogilvy by deborah underwood and illustrated by tl mcbeth
06:07you
