00:01The fight to save Glendale Technology High started in the middle of the night.
00:06Twelve fire trucks rushed to the Lake Macquarie School just after 1am.
00:11But controlling the blaze wasn't easy.
00:13At that stage we didn't send anybody in.
00:15We had a considerable roof collapse and the building was unstable.
00:19This was a very intense fire, extreme heat and smoke.
00:24The fire broke out in a building that housed the canteen and the old assembly hall.
00:28More than 50 firefighters worked through the night to stop it spreading further.
00:33The two level structure was fully destroyed by fire.
00:35Firefighters did an amazing job controlling the fire to the structure of origin.
00:40While this week marks the start of the new school term, Glendale students weren't due back until Wednesday.
00:46Thanks to the classrooms being saved, they're expected to return on schedule.
00:51We're doing our very best to get the school operational for Wednesday.
00:54Our asset management team will have all of the appropriate hygienists and structural engineers in to guide us.
01:02Authorities say it's still too early to determine what sparked the fire.
01:07Investigations are still underway. We do have fire investigation units and crime scene from police.
01:12Until we know, we'll just remain focused on the kids and the community.
01:16Heading back to school under a cloud of uncertainty.
01:19So the first week, you'll just be theme check again.
