A wolf that escaped from a zoo in Daejeon has finally been recaptured after a dramatic nine-day search that gripped the nation.
The young male wolf, named Neukgu, dug its way out of its enclosure and remained on the run for over a week. Authorities deployed hundreds of personnel, along with drones and thermal imaging technology, to track the animal.
The escape sparked widespread concern, even forcing a local elementary school to shut down for safety reasons.
Adding to the chaos, an image of a wolf roaming city streets went viral online — only to later be exposed as an AI-generated fake, raising serious questions about misinformation during real-world emergencies.
Neukgu, weighing around 30kg, was eventually tranquilized and captured alive.
