00:12this scenario you made our indian parents proud and you became a doctor and you are having this
00:18massive organ shortage in the transplant department and you realize that with a heavy
00:23heart five of your patients might die because of this and another patient is wheeled and at the
00:30emergency and when you're checking their vitals you realize that oh my god this patient is the exact
00:36match for all the other five patients which means that if you kill this one person you could save five
00:44people what would you do and you might have an instinct to say no that's wrong but why is it
00:52wrong
00:52similar to the trolley problem that we discussed in the last episode the question remains the same
00:57would you rather kill one person to save five people and at least some of you might argue that
01:03but it is totally two different situations even though you do not know exactly how to name it
01:08so let me name it for you in the trolley problem what we are doing is harm reduction the trolley

01:14already in motion so whatever you do you are only reducing the amount of harm that is caused but in
01:21the doctor's dilemma you have to actively cause harm to someone in order to save the five people
01:27so here you are battling between harm reduction and actively causing harm there is another key
01:35difference here this person did not brandon into an accident they came to you trusting as a doctor
01:42so you are using that trust and that person just as purely as a means to the end
01:49so here is the question what matters to you more is it the intention or the outcome is morality about
01:58reducing damage or refusing to be the person who causes damage and if both of those answers seem
02:04wrong in different situations what does that say about morality itself these are the kind of
