00:02Fine-tuning an imaginative arrangement for a meeting of two very different worlds.
00:12Composer Joe Kendamo's musical vision is coming to life.
00:16I feel like a 12-year-old, perpetually excited to hear this world,
00:26which up until now was an inner world inside my mind's ear.
00:33A world inspired by a friendship formed over a shared drive to a gig,
00:37where the composer bonded with clarinetist Dean Newcomb over their love of music
00:42and Dean's other love, competitive car drifting.
00:46It's ultimately about the human spirit,
00:51and even using machinery as a template to create a work of art.
00:59For Dean, it's the blending of his passions.
01:02I need to relax when I'm driving.
01:04I try to breathe as I'm performing.
01:06And if I'm performing, I try to relax as though I'm about to race your car as fast as possible.
01:15It's pretty emotional to get to the stage. I put a lot of work into this piece.
01:20And for Joe, it's the culmination of decades of dedication to music.
01:25What I discovered is that, oh my God, this is the real me.
01:29This is what I was meant to do all along.
01:32And everything that I've done musically in my life has led me to this moment.
01:37The world premiere of Concerta del Motore is being performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra here at the Adelaide Town
01:44Hall.
