00:00Inside this flower is something worth as much as gold.
00:02It's called the Crocus satibus flower, and it blooms for only about two weeks each year.
00:07During that short time, it grows three tiny red threads,
00:11which workers carefully collect one by one from hundreds of flowers,
00:14because it takes around 75,000 flowers to get just one pound.
00:18So why go through all that effort?
00:20Because one pound is worth over $5,000.
00:23After these threads, called saffron, are dried,
00:26they become something much more than a spice.
00:28Even a small amount added to food not only gives a rich flavor,
00:31but has also been shown to boost happiness,
00:34which is why it's often called red gold.
