President of NJ Transit Kris Kolluri explains why train tickets to World Cup games will cost 150 dollars.
Transcript
00:00New Jersey commuters cannot and will not subsidize the movement of fans going to the game because that
00:10would not be fair.
00:11So what we have said is the cost of running these games, over eight games, is $62 million.
00:20But thanks to the federal government, which has given us about $10.6 million,
00:24and thanks to the New York-New Jersey Host Committee, which last night gave us $3.6 million,
00:31we have brought the cost down to $48 million for those six games, or $6 million a game.
00:38In order to move 40,000 people and to pay for the cost of $6 million, we have to
00:45charge $150.
00:46Commuters in New Jersey should not carry the cost years into the future for a wonderful event, no doubt,
00:56but the fans who are going to the game should bear the burden of the cost, and that's all
01:00we're trying to say.
